Why can't I use iMessage after upgrading to iOS6?

I recently "upgraded" to iOS6 and can no longer use iMessage.  Since I am unable to go back to iOS5 any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Check your settings to make sure Siri is actually enabled.  Sometimes I find that Siri will disable during the updating process.  Oh, and it should be iOS 6.0 not 6.1.  6.1 doesn't exist...yet.

    Turn off iCloud for Pages on your mobile device at Settings > Pages > Use iCloud > Off.
    Open Pages on your computer and move any documents in iCloud to your desktop for safe keeping.
    Navigate to system preferences > iCloud > Manage and check that Pages documents are not taking any space in the cloud, delete them if they are.
    Enable iCloud syncing for Pages on your mobile device and launch the App.
    If Pages now opens properly, start to add back documents from your desktop one at a time (or in small groups if you have many).

    If your using imessage you must set it up correctly. As for the app you will have to get a hold of the App devloper.
    For imessage you just have to know your fiiends number or apple id.

    After upgrading the IOS from iTunes I can't activate it.
    "Your iPhone could not be activated because the activation server is temporarily unavailable. Try connecting your iPhone to iTunes to activate it, or try again in a couple of minutes".
    I've connected my iPhone to my Macbook Air and iTunes says: " There is no SIM card in the iPhone you are attempting to activate."  But I have an AT&T SIM card inside, what's happening?
    I've tried this many times over the course of a few days and even went to the Apple store, but they could not help me. Instead they suggested that I apply for a
    developer's ID ... or something like that, for which I would need to pay.
    Why didn't Apple spell all this out when it asked us to upgrade our iPhone when we connected it through iTunes?
    I am very upset as I need a phone and I've had to buy a new phone!
    Can someone pleae help me? I just want to be able to use my old phone again. Is that too much to ask?

    I have the same problem after upgrading my iPhone. I get my mail on iPad still - so it has nothing to do with provider. What's more I can send mails - they go through. But I can't retrieve any. Help/suggestions appreciated.

    Why? TTY is a feature for connecting the phone to a Text Telephone, a device used by the Deaf. If you are not Deaf or communicating with some who is, there's no reason to use that. Go to Settings>Phone and turn TTY off.

    Office 2004 is a PowerPC app that requires Rosetta to run. Roseeta and thus all PPC aps are not supported on Lion. Further Office 2008's Installer is a PPC app. Office 2008 will run if installed before installing Lion, but you cannot install it from Original Office 2008 Media after installing Lion.

    I have an old iPod Touch with old software that can no longer be updated:
    iOS version 6.1.6
    I've been searching for a solution to my iMessage login problem for months and tried everything from those frustrating links and all the tips from other users.
    Here is what finally worked:
    1) Settings > Privacy > Location Services > On
    2) Settings > General > Date & Time > Set Automatically > On
    3) Reboot device until Apple logo appears
    4) Settings > Messages > Sign In
