Why can't I use remote router's name for CHAP authentication - ISDN

Hello there,
I've got a problem: we have sent ISDN router to client, but now it looks like we can't connect to it, it says :
18w3d: %ISDN-6-CONNECT: Interface BRI0:1 is now connected to 0555555555
*Jul 7 07:55:13.735: BR0:1 PPP: Treating connection as a callout

*Jul 7 07:55:53.895: BR0:1 CHAP: I CHALLENGE id 138 len 32 from "router1"
why does it not allow connection with hostname as router's one ? What else can I do to connect to it remotely ?
Thanks,
Alex

OK, I understand the problem, and I think I can propose a procedure that will yield a solution. But first I need to know:
1. Which of the routers do you have access to locally, and do you know all the configured passwords?
2. On the remote router (the one you do not have physical access to), is it configured in such a way that once you do get the call up and running, you can configure it via telnet?
3. Do you know the ISDN dialer string to dial from your normally-called to your normally-calling?

  • Why can't I use my normal mail account for synching notes

    Hi there,
I maintain my father's iDevices/computers as he has Parkinsons and does not understand the technology behind how these services work. I need to maintain as simple a configuration as possible. As an example calendaring is difficult as new entries are not necessarily put in the calendar he uses and I have to talk him through how to show all calendars on a regular basis. I can't have his mail on IMAP as he cannot manage his mail and his mailbox fills up. I can't simply pay for storage ad infinitum - my local copy of his mail is about 6 GB and growing.
I have seen several discussions where it is clear that we *must* use an icloud.com e-mail account for synching notes via IMAP, but none of them have explained WHY I MUST USE @icloud.com e-mail. If this is an IMAP based service why can't I use any other IMAP server
I see that it is referred to as an "icloud account" but if I have to enable mail, it becomes an e-mail account, which I do not want as it will be confusing if there is an issue with the main mail server (which I maintain) it will present an option to use the icloud.com e-mail as a valid option to send the mail.
I do not turn on the mail option in icloud.. (only calendar, contacts, reminders and find my iphone). I find it dissapointing that this is now what seems to be a "requirement".

That is absolutely unnecessary, but more convenient to have icloud to sync your notes. I use other IMAPs as well and can sync my notes with google and yahoo and icloud(corresponding email is required in all cases). It is your choice and you can pick your poison, but you will find out that icloud is more convenient after you or him will lose his info few times. There is no requirement, you can even use the group that will not sync with anything "on my device" if you disable all of IMAPS. Icloud is just the one that you can call Apple and normally people prefer to work with Apple support way more then with google's or yahoo's, but that is again up to your preference.

  • HT1918 Why can't I use my icloud email address for my iTunes account

Tired of the cox communications inability to imap emails, going to dump it completely want to use the icloud email address I have, why can't I change my apple id to that email address

"Well, then I want to be able to merge that one and the one my purchases are on..."
This is exactly what I want to do but don't think I can:
    I noticed the following :
If you attempt to create an Apple ID which is the same as your @icloud email address from the online facility, it does not allow you (can't use an Apple associated email address as your Apple ID). However - if you start a fresh device - such as a new iPhone, iPad (must be mobile it seems), and then create an iCloud account and Apple ID from the prompts when setting up the mobile device, it IS possible to have your Apple ID and @iCloud email address as the same. I know because I just did it!
Unfortunately for me, the result I got above is not for one of my own ID's but a friends, and I would VERY much like to do the same - my current Apple ID is a completely different email address from my iCloud account. Trying to get them the same in my situation is a major bother - I think that if I wipe a device (such as an iPhone5 that is mine) and try to setup as I did my friend's device, then I will get a conflict because the iCloud email I have ALREADY exists. This is my worry and I will not attempt this until I get the new iPad 4 soon to test this.
There is an inconsistency here between the two methods of creating Apple ID's and iCloud accounts.
Overall in my opinion, the Apple ID system as currently available from Apple is not designed very well, and should be addressed.
    Best wishes -

  • Why can't you use your iCloud email address for your Apple ID?

Why can't an iCloud.com email address be used to create an Apple ID?  Is iCloud email not to be used as a primary email?

You can if you create an new Apple ID at the time you create the iCloud account, and choose to create a new @icloud.com email address as your primary email address when creating the ID.  See Imp68's post here for an example of how you would do this on a Mac: https://discussions.apple.com/message/22283348#22283348.
You could not use your existing @icloud.com email address as it is already an alias for your existing iCloud ID; you would have to create a new one.

  • HT1947 Why can I not use Remote on a first generation iPad anymore?

Remote used to work well to control music on my Mac remotely. I am now tod in the App store that I need IOS 7 for it. That seems thoroughly unreasonable.  Is this phased obsolescence.

I have the same issue. Frankly, I probably wouldn't have bought an Apple TV unit if I'd know that my iPad couldn't support the Remote app. It's not something that is well-publicized in the Apple TV promotional literature, that's for sure. Maybe it's in the fine print somewhere...

  • Why can't I use my Itunes gift card for iphoto booth purchase?

I created a Christmas card and I thought that I could use my itune gift card since I have an apple and everything is hooked up to it and it never allowed me to enter in my gift card number.. why?

Only Apple can answer a question like that, have you tried asking them?

  • Why can't I use my Mac Book pro for cashing checks like every one else uses their iPhone and iPad? I am a grandmother and in the past 4 years I have purchased 4 MacBook Pros and 1 iPad for my children and grand children.

I would like to be able to use my MaBook Pro for cashing checks lie the I phone and I pad. Why isn't this feature included?

This has nothing to do with Apple.  As BobTheFisherman indicated, your bank needs to create an App for the Mac to do this.  These types of applications tend to be limited to mobile devices as they are a bit easier to maneuver for taking photos.

  • I have two ipad 2's, why can't i use the same update file for ios7 to update both?

my kids have an ipad 2 each and we have limited internet, ihave downloaded ios7 update and updated one but it requires a second download for the second ipad 2, is it possible to use the one download like you use to be able to ?
I have tried to "shift / click update" and navigate to update but it will not allow it as it's "firmware is incompatable"

Are the two iPads identical? Can one be Wi-Fi only and the other be Wi-Fi + cellular?

  • Why can't I use a home sharing ID for iMessage on more than one device?

My daughter has a current gen iPod Touch.  My wife has an iPhone 5.  We would like to make sure that my daughter's iMessage messages show up on not only her iPod, but also my wife's iPhone.  However, the system will not allow us to add my daughter's home sharing email address ([email protected]) to my wife's iMessage.  Is this a system limitation?  Or is there some way to make it happen?
    Thanks.

    OK. Try this.
Log out of your ID in Messages and then log back in again. See if that refreshes the settings and if you get a message that your phone number is available to be used in Messages or if your phone number now appears as a choice. Select your number, then tap Next and the number will be verified.
If the ID that you are using is yours, then your phone number should also be available to use.

Your question is a bit vague - do you mind telling us which website, and what kind of error you're getting? Have you tried both Safari and Firefox? (If not, try them both, and report back.)

  • Why can't I use iDisk for a back-up disk for Time Capsule?

    G'Day All,
I am new to apple and mostly am loving it! Being new to this product has me asking some basic questions, like ... why can't I use iDisk for a back-up disk for Time Capsule?
Here I have something like 20 gb disk space available, but it seems I need to buy an external hard drive (or an airport) in order to use, what I believe is one of apples greatest inventions, the Time Machine...
Can anyone correct my flawed understanding or, better yet, teach me how to do it properly?
    Cheers

Speed makes sense, but I thought I had plenty of size available ... never mind! Looking over some of the other posts, it looks as though I'd be better off with an external Hard drive than the Apple Time Capsule (if I want more than 12-18months service).
That was true of some of the ones made a couple of years ago (many of which Apple replaced way beyond the warranty period, and even some beyond the 3-year AppleCare period). Presumably Apple has fixed the power supply problem in the newer units, so they'll last longer.
If you don't have AppleCare for your Mac, I'd strongly suggest buying it. If you do, and buy a TimeCapsule, Airport, or other accessory within 2 years, it's covered, too.
But unless you need a wireless router, yes, paying for one in a Time Capsule doesn't make sense. A good external HD is a much better buy.
thank you for the links - I am still getting used to the way Apples work ...
