Why can't I use this file?

A friend sent me a song he made in an MPEG4 format. There's no video though, just audio. I've got a regular "old" 40G click-wheel iPod, and iTunes won't let me store the file there, saying it "cannot be played by this iPod." I know my iPod can't play video, I don't care to play video, and I'm wondering why the darn thing won't just play the audio (iTunes itself will, though). Every other media program I have is perfectly fine with the fact that it only has audio. Is there a way around this, or am I just screwed if I want to take a video-less MP4 with me off of my computer?
Sorry... don't have the funds to upgrade to a newer iPod, and I personally prefer more storage over having a fancy screen.

Also, if it's an AAC file, check you have the most recent software version for the iPod.

The attached SlideshowExample.as file works quite nice when I use it on stage directly. But when I tried to use it in Gallery_mc movie clip, it doesn't work, Please help me out in resolving this problem.

What you need to do is to attach this class "SlideshowExample" to your MovieClip symbol in the Library, then instantiate it and add it to the display list. (If you want to use the name "Gallery_mc" then you can rename the class to 'Gallery_mc".)

Why can't I open this file?

A client gave me this mp.4 file and I am unable to use it. He assures me that his client was able to play it on her mac and use in in Premire. I cannot open it in QT player, Streamclip, or as an optimized clip in FCP X. All i get is black. What gives? I am lost.

I'm using Mac OSX 10.9.2 and latest version of Adobe Reader on a Macbook Air. I've tried Preview, Pages, Mail, PDF Signer. All give the same error message.
Here's what the folks at PDF signer told me a couple of days ago:
That PDF document was created using Adobe LiveCycle Designer and contains
proprietary Adobe data (known as XFA forms) that is not part of the PDF
specifications. This PDF document will only open in Adobe products (Acrobat
and Reader), all other PDF viewers/editors are unable to open these kind of
documents (e.g. it won't open in the Mac's "Preview" application as well).
Unfortunately, Adobe uses this to promote their own products instead of
providing the information and tools for other PDF engines to use these
documents.

I try and open them in Reader (double left click on the file) and all I get is a single screen with two overlapping frames neither of which have anything to do with the subject although the presentation title is at the top. One of the frames had "Adobemail.com" on it. Our work computers were recently up-graded to Adobe XI and this was the first time I tried to open a presentation that has worked fine in the past. I would have thought that Adobe XI would have been backward compatible, but it doesn't seem so. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have an 08:00 First-Aid class tomorrow and need this presentation. Apparently Adobe forums are off-line for up-grades. Thanks

I was able to fix the problem with some help from Apple. Whenever I last downloaded Reader, I apparently didn’t complete the process by accepting the Reader contract. I was able to go right to that point in the process and complete the installation. The messages that I needed Reader but it was already installed were quite confusing. It would have been nice if the Adobe installation process that I was re-trying this morning had been able to detect a partial installation. The Troubleshooting page almost had me doing some ridiculous things that wouldn’t have helped.

A good general step for strange issues is to renew the iPhoto preference file - quit iPhoto and go to "your user name" ==> library ==> preferences ==> com.apple.iPhoto.plist and trash it - launch iPhoto which creates a fresh new default preference file and reset any personal preferences you have changed and if you have moved the iPhoto library repoint to it. This may help
This does not affect your photos or any database information (keywords, faces, places, ratings, etc) in any way - they are stored in the iPhoto library - the iPhoto preference file simply controls how iPhoto works - which is why renewing it is a good first step.
If that does not cure it backup up your iPhoto library and rebuild it - depress the option and command keys and launch iphoto and use the options there - exact option depends on teh version you have
And always remember - NEVER make any changes of any sort to the structure or content of the iPhoto library - nothing - no deletions - no name changes - nothing

I have an old iPod Touch with old software that can no longer be updated:
iOS version 6.1.6
I've been searching for a solution to my iMessage login problem for months and tried everything from those frustrating links and all the tips from other users.
Here is what finally worked:
1) Settings > Privacy > Location Services > On
2) Settings > General > Date & Time > Set Automatically > On
3) Reboot device until Apple logo appears
4) Settings > Messages > Sign In

If you are not in the US then you cannot use the US store, the store's terms say that you have to be in a country to use it - if you are using the US store then you are risking having your account disabled.

I'm afraid that once an address has been associated with an Apple ID you can't re-use it in any way. You will have to create another address (such as a free on from GMail or Yahoo for example).

Have you done the obvious things to try to fix it: quit Quicktime then start it back up again, log out then back in, reboot.
Edit: Just read one of your later posts. If VLC won't play it, this is unrelated to Quicktime and Flip4Mac. Are you sure these wmv files are okay?

Ah yes school boy error there out of frustration and discontent..
My issue is with music/apps/films etc not downloading from iTunes / App Store.
They initially fail and message is displayed stating unable to download / purchase at this time, yet if I retry it says I've already purchased (?) or alternatively I go to the purchased section and there they are waiting with the cloud symbol..
However some items get frozen in the download window and cannot be retried or deleted. Message appears stating to tap to retry, but even if you stole every bath and sink in the uk you'd still not have enough taps.
I post here as the iTunes guys are useless in there 'help' and have only advised posting here or phoning apple, at my expense, to explain a problem that could be rectified by forwarding my original email to a techie. However the tech team apparently don't have an email address as they're from ye olde Middle Ages..!
Anyways I digress.
So I tried sync to pc, but instead of showing the file as ready to listen/use/view, the iCloud symbol shows and I'm back to square one as the item is unable to download..
At frustration station waiting for a train from pain...
All my software is up to date, and had all worked fine prior to the last big iOS update that resulted in all the changes in display and dismay.
