Why can't I wake my sleeping computer?

I have a 1.83GHz MacBook that, once it goes to sleep, it won't wake up.  I have to force power off and reboot it to get it to work.  It's running 10.6.8 and has 2Gb of RAM.
Thank you in advance.

There's a couple of ways to get through to the authorisation controls in the 11.0.x versions.
The control is still in the Store menu, but first (if you're using iTunes versions 11.0.x) you might need to bring up the menu bar to see the Store menu.
If you're using 11.0.x, click on the wee boxy icon up in the top-left corner of your iTunes to see the "Show Menu Bar" control, as per the following screenshot:
Then you'll find the control in the Store menu:
Alternatively, if you don't want to bring up the menu bar, it's still possible to get into the authorise controls via nested menus accessible from the wee boxy icon. Here's a screenshot of where to find them:

  • Wake from sleep - Computer connects half speed or less

After the last Airport update, my wake from sleep connection issue went away. Now, two weeks later, it is back.
I have no hope that this message will accomplish anything other than making me feel a little bit better.

I should probably add I have tried various settings in Energy Saver with the same results. I have also checked the Energy Saver schedule to make sure there isn't anything there. The only two login items I have are the iTunes application and the helper application. I have repaired permissions as well as checked my startup disk and its ok. When I installed Yosemite 10.10 I erased my drive and did a fresh install hoping that would do the trick but nope.
I've been using macs since 1992 but I cannot seem to figure this one out.

  • Why can't you deauthorize just one computer?

Why is the only choice in the store to deauthorize ALL computers with an appleid/iTunes store account?  My husband took my old mac book pro and removed all my info on it, but did not deauthorize the iTunes account first.  Now, my phone won't sync with my new computer because we're up to our limit on devices with that iTunes account (try having one account since day 1 of iTunes, and now multiple computers and devices.
Isn't there some way to tell iTunes to stop associating that mac book pro with my phone (which is what it seems to be doing)?
And word to the wise -- do not let anyone use an old computer until you've deauthorized it.  Once they start ripping out your data to put theirs in you really are totally (******) if they do it wrong.

The only thing that makes me nervous about that is this -- we had an iTunes account forever, and when the Cloud went live, they made us change the login and update our account information.  Our original login id still syncs anything associated with it for updates (apps), even though we now use the new id for purchases.  It's rather beautiful that it works like that -- asking for one login to update apps prior to the Cloud, seeming to know that it goes with those ... however, I shudder to think if we tried to reauthorize to that original id if the iTunes store would recognize it as a valid id, which could jeopardize all the original music and app purchases (years and years and years of legally purchased content).
We're going to have to try something else.

  • Why can't apple tv find my computer but it recognizes my wireless internet

I recently purchased Apple TV. Obiously it is not working properly.  I am at school using their Open Wireless network, not the network requiring user name and password.  Apple TV connects to Open Wireless and when I hit the "computers" app, it says searching for my library, but then it says cannot connect.  It can see my photo stream fine, lets me access Netflix too, but it's basically pointless because I cannot mirror on any device as when I click my Apple TV to Air Play from my iPad or Mac Air, it recognizes it then cannot connect.  Hearing from a friend try using an Ethernet cord to encourage faster speeds, I did that and now when I choose the "computers" app, it says I have to turn home sharing on my iTunes, but I am home sharing.  This is EXTREMELY ANNOYING I have not been able to figure it out for 3 days! Someone please help me out here or else I am going to return this soon as it is not worth this aggrivation.

Apologies as it was an emotional rant.  Yes I have turned on sharing and sharing on my local network. I did call them and they said that the "open wireless" WiFi option (which is just free internet that non-students can access for free without having to login using username and password) probably blocks the sharing of devices to the Apple TV.
Basically, all of my devices have my Apple Tv as an option to connect to, but when I choose it, they are unable to connect.  Also, on the homepage of Apple Tv where it says "computers", I click that and when it tries to access my library, it says unable to connect.
I appreciate you trying to help me and I may just have to setup another call with Apple and try to fix this problem.

  • Why won't the wake and sleep feature work on my ipad

I have a case that works but it doesn't

You have Settings > General > iPad Cover Lock / Unlock set 'on' ? If you have and the cover is aligned then you could try a soft-reset and see if it works after the iPad has restarted : Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Why can't monitor doesn't match computer resolution?

I have an old macbook pro 17" with max resolution 1680x1050.  When I plug in my view sonic Led monitor they don't match.  The monitor says 1920x1080.  The screen seems a bit blurry and hard to read. I tried the smaller monitor size (1600x1200) it stretches the screen.  Why don't they match?  And do I need a different type of monitor?
(see attached image of sizing- the "color LCD" is the macbook.)
Thanks a million.  I get the best answers to my mac problems on this forum.
    -Kate

Yes, it should work. 1920x1200 is the resolution of Apple's 24-inch Cinema Display. The new one connects directly using the Mini DisplayPort, but the previous 23-inch version was connected by DVI and it was 1920x1200 native resolution. I have heard no one else reporting here that any DVI display with 1920x1200 native resolution does not work properly on the Mini DisplayPort (using a DVI adapter).

  • Why can't I get my 2nd computer to load my itunes

I have Itunes and all of my music loaded on my new computer.  I have home sharing turned on, and my second computer now has all the same music, videos, etc.
I have another computer in a location 100 miles away.  We'll call it comuter #3/    I left my main computer set up with home sharing turned on.  I then loaded all of the latest itunes software on the computer #3, I turned on the home sharing, I logged in with my user name and password to itunes, and none of my music is there.
    Any thoughts?

  • TS1474 why can i not use someone elses computer to sync my itouch without replacing my library? this person does not have an ipod or any other apple device, and until i installed it they did not have itunes?

I have tried to use someone else's computer to sync my i-touch. I was under the impression that I could recognize other dvices to sync my library, but it keeps telling me that i have to erase what is on my i-touch and replace it with the library associated with the computer i am using, yet he does not have an i-tunes account, nor an apple device to necessitate one and only has i-tunes on his computer because I downloaded it to try & sync my i-touch.

That is the way it works. It designed to do that.
In addition to everything else you have to this other person's computer you would have to move your complete iTunes library over also. Only then will it recognize youriTouch.

  • Powerbook Ti will occasionally not wake from sleep mode

When I put my powerbook in sleep mode, either it will wake, or it will wake but the screen will be blank. The HD will have turned on, the pulsating light will have turned off, and you can hear the fan running. I'll then have to force shutdown and restart.
    So far I have tried:
    1. sleeping via the powerbutton and choosing sleep to see if that changes anything
    2. to plug in a peripheral via USB
    3. to wait it out to see if the screen appears
    4. to reset the PMU underneath the keyboard
    5. to check to see if my ram was bad
    6. to repair disk permissions
    7. to repair file systems via fsck -f in terminal
Nothing has worked. Please help anyone. Thanks

ckoeshall: The note you quoted from that article concerns desktop Macs, most or all of which use non-rechargeable PRAM batteries. The internal backup battery in your Tibook is rechargeable, and is responsible for maintaining your time and date settings when both the main battery and the AC adapter are disconnected. It will only last a few minutes under those circumstances, though (it lasts long enough to let you change the main battery or get connected to AC power when your main battery runs down). You haven't mentioned that your time and date settings don't hold (but of course they're lost when you reset PRAM or the PMU), and I'm not aware that a depleted backup battery can cause the wake-from-sleep problem you're experiencing.
To recharge your backup battery just to eliminate it as a possible factor in your problem, remove the main battery and leave the PB connected to AC power for 4-5 hours. It takes much longer to charge the backup battery if the main battery is in place and in need of charging too, because the main battery evidently gets priority.
The fact that you have a third-party main battery probably has nothing at all to do with your problem. By now, I suspect that a large majority of Tibook users are operating with third-party batteries, since Apple no longer sells them.

  • Why can't I disconnect backup drive when computer is sleeping?

Often I would like to just grab my sleeping MacBook Pro and go. But if I unplug the USB backup drive, the system always scolds me that the drive was not put away properly and I may have lost data. The alternative is to wake the system up, put away the drive, unplug the drive, put the system back to sleep, and finally go.
Annoying and, I think, totally unnecessary. Surely OS X is smart enough to flush any pending writes to the hard drive when it's entering Sleep mode. So in reality, there's no possibility of losing data, and no reason to scold the user, right?
Why can't Apple make this simple fix? It's been this way for a LONG time.

    Hi,
Me thinks you ask just too much from an operating system. It is built this way so that if you are still using an external device, without actually realising the fact at the time of disconnection, it ( the computer ) prompts you as such.
Imagine the posts that would appear if this were not the case?
" I unplugged a drive and now the cat has exploded, the house next door is on fire and aliens are now running around in the local park - Apple are you listening?????? "
    Regards.

  • My iMac has suddenly become very slow to wake from "sleep." Why? How can I fix this?

My iMac has suddenly become very slow to wake from "sleep." How do I fix this and what is causing the problem? Even the mouse wakes very slowly.

    Try these basic troubleshooting steps.
    1. Quit all app scompletely and restart the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar. Restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
    2. Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
    3. Go to Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Data. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
