Why can't Illustrator's line segment tool make a stroke of .5 pt?

Why can't Illustrator's line segment tool make a stroke of .5 pt? When I create a line at either 90° or 180° I cannot make the stroke thinner than 1 pt., even if I create the line first and then try to change its stroke. When I create a line at any other angle I can make the line thickness whatever I want by changing its stroke thickness. What I want is to make line segments that are .25 or .5 pts, but the minimum Illustrator will do is 1 pt even if I select the line or rectangle and try to change it to .5 or .25 pt. This same problem exists with the rectangle tool when I create a rectangle oriented at either at 90° or 180°, but if I rotate that same rectangle to anything other than 90° or 180° I will then have the ability to change the thickness to less than 1 pt. Any ideas what's going on?

Well, this is good information, but it does not quite get me there. I get as far as {user}:Library:Application Support:Adobe:
but there is no Adobe Illustrator folder. Suggestions?
I want to suggest they add Hyphenation to that list. I never hyphenate anything, and I can't count the number of times I have had to uncheck the hyph box in InDesign and Illustrator. Can you point me to the appropriate suggestion box? Thx D

No clue. You've provided nearly no information.

If this is what you want, hold the ~ key on your keyboard while dragging with the tool.
If you want spaced copies of the completed line, use the Transform Effects from the Effects menu.

  • Line Segment Tool Options won't allow negative angle

When you select an object and hit Return to bring up the Move dialog, Illustrator allows you to enter a negative rotation amount in the Angle field (e.g., -30°). This is great. However, when you select the Line Segment tool and click in the drawing area to bring up the Line Segment Tool Options dialog, the same Angle field will only accept positive numbers. Entering a negative value will cause the Angle to be zero. This is sloppy work and so easily fixed. Please change it so you can enter negative numbers in the Line Segment Tool Options dialog like you can in the Move dialog. Also, there should be a preview checkbox in the Line Segment Tool Options.

  • How to join multiple line segments to make a fillable polygon

    Howdy,
I have illustrator CS2 12.0.1. Is there any easy way to create an irregular shaped fillable polygon? The way I currently do this is (1) I use the line segment tool to draw the sides of the polygon, (2) then for each corner of the polygon, I use the direction selection tool to select the corner, then do command-J to "join" the two segments that touch that corner. Only after doing that, I am finally able to use the eyedropper tool to fill the polygon.
This take a lot of tedious effort. I have LOTS of polygons to draw. Once I have drawn the segments, it seems like I should just be able to select all the segments and have an option that does all the joins at once.
Or, maybe instead of the line segment tool I could use some path tool. But whenever I have tried that, I end up with curved segments instead of straight ones.
Can anyone tell me how to do this?
    Thanks for any help,
    Frank B

Basically I am drawing on top of a bitmapped background which is a satellite map. My polygons are essentially the property lots on this map. So I visually see where the corners are, and I want to make a polygon that I can fill. I actually will fill with a few different translucent colors to indicate different types of lots. This all works fine except that my current means of drawing the polygons is tedious, and it seems like there should be a better way.
Another way I could solve my problem is if I were able to reshape an existing polygon by dragging its corners to where I wanted them to be. I have not figured out how to do that. Either the entire polygon moves when I drag a corner, or the polygon gets reshaped by the drag in a way I don't want (what I want is to move one corner, and what I get instead seems like one corner stays put and the other three move around to keep constant skewishness; or something).

  • Why can't I see the keyframes in color over stroke?

Why can't I see the keyframes in color over stroke? I am trying to adjust a heart beat monitor effect I created. I started with a bezier line and gave it a light streak #3 style. In the Color Over Stoke shape window I can click the arrows left and right to jump from KF to KF but they will not appear as editable points in the keyframe editor. I wonder if this is a bug?
    Thanks
    Wilson

Here's what I did to see them
    -Added a line shape
-Dropped Light Steak 3 style on the line layer in the layer list.
-Selected the line and in the inspector, went to Shape>Stroke>Color over stroke.
-Selected the first color tag in the gradient.
-At the far right side of the color parameter, clicked the downward facing arrow and selected "Show in Keyframe Editor" option.
The keyframes show up in the keyframe editor.  Repeat for each color or opacity tag as needed.

  • Illustrator shaping line segments

Lets say I had a bunch of line segments in the shape of a square. Basically vertical and horizontal crossing. If I wanted to 'cut' this square into a star shape or any arbitrary shape how could I do it without having to resize each segment or relying on the messy eraser? None of the pathfinder tools seem to work.    Thanks

Use the pen tool to make a closed path, with curves if you like, instead of line segments. After divide: ungroup, select one of the invisible squares, go to Select>Same>Stroke color (or select a colored shape, Select>Same>Stroke color, then Select>Inverse) then delete. If you have other objects in the document with the same color, lock them first. Granted, your grid will no longer be composed of connected lines, but they are visually continuous. See if that gets you closer.

  • HT201469 If the iPhone 5s has touch ID, then why can't it use Apple Pay to make in-app purchases?

They came out with a new iPad mini, and the only difference with the old mini and the new mini is that it has touch ID so that you can make in-app purchases. That's just about the only difference.
Ok, well, the iPhone 5s has touch ID already. Why can't it be used to make in-app purchases?

Yes, actually I did. There's no Apple Pay option.
But there's more to it than that. If you look at the Apple Pay section of Apple's website, it specifically says that Apple pay will only work with the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, and Apple Watch for making in-store purchases (you know, actual stores), and with iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3 for making in-app purchases.
So Apple's website specifically says that Apple Pay will not work for iPhone 5s for making in-app purchases.
My question is, why? What technology is it lacking?
I understand that iPhone 5s can't do in-store purchases since it doesn't have NFC. But in-app? Why not? It has touch ID.

  • Why can't I use the mesh tool? - brand new illustrator user

I am trying to learn to use illustrator - I've been watching the online videos - which are very helpful, but there aren't any that I can find for the mesh tool.  I want to add some shading to the body of this acrobat but every time I try to use the mesh tool I get the not available symbol.  I can't figure out why or how to change it.  I started from a scanned drawing, did a live trace, and converted to live paint to fill in colors.  What should I do now to enable the mesh tool?  Please help!

You need to select the shape and then click inside of it with the
tool. I'm not positive but I think it needs to be a solid for it to
    work as well.
Some tutorials that I thought were rather helpful on explaining it
    were on youtube:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdH2hAUUPbg
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XDkBAN9XRoo
The person in those videos covers creating the mesh and coloring it,
patching, very nice. Hope those can help you out.

  • Why can't Illustrator CS6/CC place PSD files properly?

I have been using Adobe products for over 15 years and one of the main features I use is placing PSD files within Illustrator and then creating my text so that is remains vector. Being a recent Creative Cloud Team member and seeing that both CS6 and CC do not allow a user to place a PSD inside of Illustrator without drastically reducing the image baffles me!!!
For example create a 500x500 pixel 300dpi document in Photoshop and save as PSD. Then open Illustrator and create a document the EXACT SAME SIZE. Go to file place and try to place the PSD you just created. Notice that it will not place at the correct size???
I don't see how this big of an oversight can be overlooked. I have also noticed that when using the PANTONE Solid Color palette within Illustrators Color Books, with persistence turned on also still does not work. This has been a problem I have noticed for over 5 years!!! Even with workspaces saved this problem persist to this day.
I am on a BRAND NEW iMac out of the box so it is not a computer or user issue.
Can someone please help me with a solution to the above issues. As a Creative Director for a marketing and advertising agency I don't see how these two issues have not perplexed others as they both are part of my day to day work flow and are now hendering how I perform my daily job as a designer.
Any solutions or tips or tricks to eliminate the above mentioned issues are greatly appreciated.

you are correct by stating that the file will open, but if you go to document setup and then go to edit art boards you can see that the image size is actually much smaller than the original that you created. this is a major bug as i create a lot of my dynamic backgrounds in photoshop and then place them in illustrator to do my typography. i have been using photoshop and illustrator for over 15 years so i can not see them deleting this feature or overlooking the fact that it does not work, but then again who knows!!! they did in fact delete the AOM from Bridge which was the one main feature that i used and loved about the program. for products with this price range i can not see why they would delete such a vital feature to the program.
again just looking for a solution and i appreciate your quick response to this. hopefully we will start something that adobe will actually see and help us out with. it has slowed my production within the programs down to a sluggish crawl

  • Why can't I see moire reduction tool in camera raw 8.1?

    Hi There,
I have been happilly using the moire reduction tool in camera raw up until a day or 2 ago. For some reason the moire reduction panel no longer appears under the adjustment brush. The funny thing is that 1 dng file that I used the moire reduction on 2 days ago still shows that panel but no other dng files will display the panel containing sharpness, noise reduction, moire reduction and defringe. Can anyone suggest why this has happened? I've tried updating the sofware and that didn't work.
    Cheers,
    Damien.

PSE 11 has a new 2012 raw engine but you can switch between the old and the new. In the camera raw dialog click on the camera icon. Then change Process to 2010. Then go back to the basic tab.

  • Why can't I use the paintbrush tool?

I'm trying to paint on an image and when I mouse over where I want to paint I get the "prohibited" symbol and can't paint. I opened other .jpgs and was able to paint with no problem. Is there a type of file that you can't use the paintbrush tool on? Please help!

I found this to be a way around this issue:
Open the image that you want to draw on, keep that in its own RGB window.
Open a brand new document, CMYK.
Activate your Brush and draw a few lines on your artboard.
Then, copy and paste your RGB image into this new CMYK color space.
Voila. I think the Brush can only be used in a CMYK color space. And sometimes this does not work when you convert your document to a color space inside the RGB document.
Hope this helps. If anyone else has an alternative, let me know.
I've always had this issue with the Brush.
