Why can't my After Effects import .MP4 XDCAM files ???

I've searched everywhere for this and couldn't find the solution to it.
Whenever I try to import a .MP4 file my After effects says "After Effects error: file 'xxx.mp4 cannot be imported - this 'xxx.mp4' file is damaged or unsupported"
....but I've edited with XDCAM .MP4 files before, they worked on CS4 and CS6, and they are the best quality in my perspective.
Anyone know the solution to this problem ? if you do then please give me an answer, Thanks!!

Ignore this terrible advice. Some people here blame every single problem on K-Lite, never with any sort of proof, just based on bad assumptions and myths. You should never re-install Windows to fix a simple software problem.
Some FACTS:
* K-Lite does not modify, remove, damage, or touch any Adobe product or related codecs in any way.
* K-Lite does not damage or mess up systems.
* Uninstalling K-Lite will correctly remove all its codecs and settings. It does a thorough cleanup of the registry. It reverts tweaks and restored things such as file associations to original backed up values. It does not leave anything behind. It does not make any permanent changes to your system.
* K-Lite has special functionality for detecting and fixing several types of codec related problems. For example left-over codec references in the registry. It is well know for its ability to actually fix problems instead of creating them.
Anyone who does not believe the above can easily verify it for themselves by creating and comparing snapshots of their filesystem and registry before install and after uninstall. Specialized tools exist for that purpose.
It is of course possible that a compatibility problem exists between a specific codec (from a pack or standalone) and another program. That can happen with manually installed codecs as well. But if a problem continues after uninstalling a codec (pack), then it is highly unlikely that that codec (pack) is responsible. When in doubt, just contact the codec developers, they are very knowledgable and helpful.
Here are some tips for diagnosing codec problems:
1) Create a list of all installed codecs. Codec Tweak Tool can generate a detailed log, and is able to filter out the standard stuff from Windows, so you can see just the third party ones. That should allow Tim to see if you got any bad ones installed. You would be surprised what kind of garbage gets installed by certain programs such a video converters.
2) Analyze a problematic file with MediaInfo. This is a tool that shows details about media files. That allows you to give others detailed information about the type of file and its audio/video contents.
3) Test playback in Windows Media Player. This will use either Media Foundation or DirectShow filters.
4) Test playback in GraphStudioNext. This is a special DirectShow testing tool. It shows you exactly which filters its uses.
5) Test playback in QuickTime player. Some programs, including AE, use QuickTime for encoding/decoding. A broken QuickTime installation (or one of its dependencies) is a common cause of AE problems.

  • FAQ: Why won't After Effects import my PSD file as a composition but flattens it?

from the "Preparing and importing Photoshop files" section of After Effects Help:
"Layered Photoshop (PSD) files need to be saved in RGB or Grayscale color mode for After Effects to import them as a composition and to separate the layers. CMYK, LAB, Duotone, Monotone, and Tritone color modes are not supported for layered files; After Effects will import a file that uses one of these color modes as a single, flattened image."

There's got to be something different with the PSD. Is it RGB? That's the first thing to check. What is the structure of the PSD. Layer Groups? Effects? There are so many things that could go wrong that without more information we would just be guessing.

  • After Effects importing wrong Illustrator file

I'm making a 2D simply animated film for my final year university project, where I'm designing in Illustrator and animating in After Effects.
This has worked fine until recently, but I've stumbled upon a problem. I'm creating my assets in groups based on my storyboards, and importing them one by one as I progress through the animation. They are all in the same folder and named 'Assets 1.ai' and so on. I have reached the 4th one of these files, but when I try to import it with the settings 'Composition - Retain Layer Sizes', AE brings in 'Assets 1' rather than 'Assets 4'. I've even tried this with the 'Footage' setting, which is useless to me anyway, and it still brings in the wrong file.
I can get around this by dragging the file from Finder straight into AE, but this makes all the layer sizes the entire size of the comp which means that I can't transfer any previous keyframes onto my new layers (I'm using several similar animations and layers) as they are a completely different size.
For example, a subtle rotation on the old layers of the correct size is a much more noticeable one on the new layers.
Does anyone know of a way to fix this?

It might help if we know some more information. Exact version number of AE (down to the last decimal), for example. FAQ: What information should I provide when asking questions?
What happens if you try to import it into a brand new project? If it works, until an answer is found, just import it into a new project and then import that project into your existing project.
Also, on a big project like this, please tell me you're using the Increment and Save feature with some frequency.

  • Why i can download adobe after effects?

hello everybody.... this is my question... why i can download adobe after effects? when i download it, the download assistant say that error...

If you are having problems with the Adobe Download Assistant contacting the internet it may be due to a software firewall you have in place.  I would check your software firewall setting to make sure it is allowing the Adobe Download Assistant to contact the internet.
Beyond that you may also want to review Troubleshoot Adobe Download Assistant.

  • Can't render: after effects error: internal verification failure. What can I do?

I need to render a comp (h.264 default settings) and the process is stopped with the following error: "after effects error: internal verification failure, sorry! {could not find itemframe we just now checked in}".
What can I do? I have already tryed to re-start Ae several times. The render stops at random points, when started again. The comp is very simple: a mp4 movie background, still PNG pictures one after another with opacity and 1 mask keyframed and write-on texts at their side, explaining the pictures. Thank you in advance for any help.

Yes, the problem is that Ae seems to not handle well MP4 files. Why is that?
After Effects works on a pixel-by-pixel basis. After Effects is not like video editing programs - they just deal with a video stream - in After Effects, each frame is fully uncompressed.
MP4's use interframe compression. That means that they only have a complete frame every once in a while and the rest are filled in using a variety of methods including motion estimation. Depending on the compression settings, a video with interframe compression often won't have a complete frame for a few seconds. That means that, out of every 90 frames or so, only one of those frames actually contains full pixel data for the entire frame (and that frame is usually somewhat compressed using intraframe compression [like a JPEG]). After Effects has to decode a lot of crap and translate it into full-frame, full pixel information before it can even begin to process it.
After Effects is much better with it now than it used to be. CS4 and earlier used to struggle with it bad. Each version since has improved handling of such things. Also, each version implements ways of handling newer versions of codecs. Keep in mind, version 11 (CS6) was written before a lot of modern cameras were even built. The current version (13.2) probably would not have had the issue you did.
    Does that explain it?

  • After Effects CS6 - mp4 file error

Initially I struggled to get After Effects to import footage that was shot with a Sony F3 (mp4 codec)
I got it right eventually, don’t know how but it worked fine for more than a month.
This afternoon however it just refused to work and I get the standard error saying the file is damaged or unsupported.
I checked the forum but can’t seem to find a solution the problem. A couple of people suggested that the footage be converted to another format.
    So I have 2 questions:
    1. Is this a bug in CS6?
    2. What other format can I convert the footage to without losing any quality that will play in After Effects.
    Regards
    IvanRisingStar

The files only open in VLC Media Player.
Neither Quicktime nor Windows Media Player want to play the file (.mp4 - Sony F3)
I don't know what changed since but it's very frustrating.
I have found a workaround though. I re-encode it using Adobe Media Encoder. I just have to go back into the Premiere project and replace the recoded files with the old .mp4 footage.

  • How can I use After Effects filters on a whole sequence without getting stuck in After Effects?

It appears that, with the options that are visible to the user, Dynamic Link only goes one-way and can't make round trips from Premiere Pro to After Effects and back again.  If I send a sequence to After Effects, that part works fine and I can do what I want and save the comp.  However, even though the comp appears as an asset in Premiere Pro, I am not allowed to do anything with it.  If I try to drag it to a new sequence, it just says no.  If I click "Create Sequence from Clip" it creates an empty sequence.
So how can I use After Effects on whole sequences/tracks instead of just on a clip-by-clip-by-clip-by-clip-by-clip basis?  is this possible?  For instance, if I have a whole sequence where I've neutralized the white balance, I might want to apply a warming filter to the whole thing as a unit.  That would be really painful with even a few clips to keep doing that again and again, and if you want to modify it slightly you have to do it over and over.  If there is a way to do that through Dynamic Link through some hidden option, what happens with the audio?  Would I have to cut it out of the lower sequence and paste it into the higher sequence with the After Effects comp as a video track?

I'm not an Adoby guy, hence you may ignore my reply, but Adobe Dynamic Link is obviously not just one way ticket and in most cases works just fine.
You have already been explained by J-MS and tclark513 how to properly use it and which pitfalls may occur.
So as to apply an effect onto a whole sequence or a group of clips you need to either nest them in PrPro or pre-compose them in AE. Then just apply an effect (or several ones) onto that composition.
So, if you nest clips in PrPro, select your nested sequence in the timeline, right-click and choose 'Replace with After Effects Composition'. Done! Your dynamically linked AE composition is in the right place in your timeline and in your Project panel as well. If you can not treat it as an ordinary footage, there are obviously some mistakes in your workflow.
If you didn't nest your sequence or a group of clips in PrPro before replacing them with AE composition, you may easily do it within AE. Just select all the layers in AE composition and choose Layer -> Pre-compose... (Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+C) Done! Switch back to your Master comp and apply your desired effect(s)
You may loose some effects or/and transitions while travelling from PrPro to AE via Adobe Dynamic Link, whereas you don't while travelling back
(If you start building your AE composition from scratch right in AE and then need to import it into PrPro, DO NOT export one as PrPro project out of AE, but rather choose Adobe Dynamic Link -> Import After Effects Composition... within PrPro)
P.S. And yes, submit a feature-request so that Adobe will convert 'Transparent Video' into fully functional 'Adjustment Layer'.

  • Can't install After Effects as full version

Hi, I can't install After Effects as full version although veing customer of the complete CC. With all the other programs it works fine (I installed them via desktop application) but after effects is still shown as test version. And this free trial is over now. Instead of giving me the intsall or udpate button ot shows the buy-button. Has anyone had the same problem or knows what to do? Many thanks

    Hi
If you did all the process correct, and your plan is paid I only see one way to solve this issue.
Follow this steps and for sure your problem will be solved.
    Windows
Choose Start > Run, type %systemroot% \system32\drivers\etc, and then press Enter.
Right-click the hosts file and select Open. Select Notepad for the application to open the hosts file.
Back up the hosts file: Choose File > Save As, save the file as hosts.backup, and then click OK.
Search the hosts file for entries that reference activate.adobe.com (for example,127.0.0.1 activate.adobe.com) and delete these entries.
    Save and close the file.
Mac OSLog in as an administrator to edit the hosts file in Mac OS.
In a Finder window, choose Go > Go To Folder.
    Type /etc.
Select the hosts file and open it.
Back up the hosts file: Choose File > Save As, save the file as hosts.backup, and then click OK.
Search the hosts file for entries that reference activate.adobe.com (for example,127.0.0.1 activate.adobe.com) and delete these entries.
    Save and close the file.
After editing this Hosts file, open Adobe creative cloud and log in once again. Is important that you start once again the session so Adobe creative cloud recognizes that Hosts file was edited.
You can do this by clicking in:
    Preferences»Log out.

    Hey everybody !
I have some problem with "After Effects CC".
I have the " Creative Cloud Student and Teacher Edition" and that's ok (photoshop, Illustrator, Premier pro, etc.) But I don't know why, I can't use After Effects.
    Something is wrong.
Exemple : Here, you supposed to read "Coucou" with simple text. It's the same problem with all tools.
I have already uninstalled it, and updated.
    Thanks
    Laury

Well, let's start with the obvious.
Do you KNOW how to use Adobe After Effects?

  • After I import a movie file from the camera memory card, Imovie 10.0.1 acts as if the memory card is empty though I know it isn't.... I can't import that file to iMovie again.. is that the way it worksnow?  Thank you, Filippo

On IMac 10.9  After I import a movie file from the camera memory card to Imovie 10.0.1 it acts as if the memory card is empty though I know it isn't.... I can't import that file to iMovie again.. is that the way it works now?  Anyone know?  Thanks, Filippo

I would like to know this too. I imported a lot of files, then Imovie crashed. I went back in and they are not in imovie at all.
I reconnected the camcorder to import again and though they are still on the camcorder, I no longer see them in the available list of files to import. I'm sure there is some sort of simple setting somewhere that reveals all files even if it thinks they are imported.
    Thanks

  • How can I install after effects on 32 bit operating system?

How can I install after effects on 32 bit operating system?
I cant even find it in creative cloud.
I want to make  a intro but it dossent allow me to even find/ istall it.
I hope some one will help me by anwsering my question.
    Than you for time.

If your system does not meet the minimum system requirements you have to go back to a version that does. Try the direct download links you'll find here.. CS5 comes bundled with CS4 for AE which is the last  version to run on a 32 bit system.
