Why can't recipients open file attachments that I email from iFiles?

I currently use iFiles on my iPad to store and organize my business files but when I send any file from iFiles as an email attachment, my recipient can not open the attachment. Instead of showing in their email as attachment that requires a double click to open, it appears in the body of the email as a box with a red 'x' in the middle of it. Conversely, I use Documents To Go on my personal iPad and have no issues emailing any of these files as an attachment.

OK. You mean that it has fillable form fields. Those will not open in the mail app or in iBooks.
Download Adobe Reader in the App Store. It is free. Then go back to the mail app, tap on the PDF file to get the Open In window to pop up. When the Open In window pops up, select Adobe Reader. The PDF will open in Adobe Reader and be saved in there. You should be able to fill out the fields in the Adobe Reader app and then you can email it from there if needed.

  • Why can't I open my attachments in my email

I cannot open my attachment in my email. When I go to tools to attachments it will only save attachments on my desktop or I have to downloadthe attachment to open it. When I send an attachment and I want to open it to make sure it is the same one it does the same thing.

    Hi Matt,
I did try to install the add-on, but it came up as a white square I could not open!
They are genuine emails sent by my daughter mostly, as pdf., from Windows Live Mail, which I do not like, but although she uses Firefox, she has not been able to install T/bird, but that is another story.
I am hoping that I have solved the problem, however. I had the same problems with things like bank statements, which I could neither open nor save. In the Firefox help department, I found out about options, attachments and scrolling down to make Adobe Reader the default browser, so in T/bird I went to tools, options, attachments and did the same thing there. It seems to work, so I just need to wait till someone sends me an email with a pdf attachment.
If it works, great, and thanks for your help. If not, I will be back! Regards, Bill Ure

I can no longer open any attachments that are sent to me. I click on and get cannot preview (but have had this for ages). I am clicking on download and nothing happens. It does not download. I clicked to install a new version after updating and clicking repair. But still the attachments won't open including invoices I have received today. It is all attachments not just pdfs.

Then most likely it is not caused by Adobe Reader.
Anyway, perhaps someone has some idea, if you give us some details: operating system, browser, email client, ...

    Hey Uptogetdown,
    Check out the following article:

It is for troubleshooting issues with the Messages application on iOS devices, so I'd go through the steps listed and see if that resolves the issue.

Why can I not open files saved on a server?

I think I figured it out.  I set the compatibility mode to Windows Server 2008 (which is the OS on the server we are using) and it opened just fine.  Whoop Whoop.  Thanks for your help.

  • Why can't I create a response to an email from the Viewer window?

Why can't I create a response to an email from the Viewer window?
When I select an email to respond to in the viewer window and click on the respond arrow that appears just under the header, a new response email opens for a split second then disappears.
I have to actually click on and open the email message in its own screen to be able to then click on the respond arrow and succeed in having Mail open a response email that I can edit - one that remains open.
This seems to be a bug that we need to have squashed.

Do I have to connect the iPad to a computer to make this work? Is the fact that I used another email address to set up my Apple ID years ago causing the problem? A friend of mine just got a new iPod and he was able to set up a me.com account. I am feeling rather stupid. Hope someone here can help.

  • I use gmail on my ipad. Why can't I open any attachments? Not word files, not photos, nothing. Thanks

I use g-mail on my ipad. I have no trouble receiving mail, but I cannot open any attachments of any kind. Why?

For Gmail attachments, if they are PDF files (as well as many other formats) when you are viewing them on the iPad in Safari there is an option to "Open in iBooks" just below the tab you have open (at the top of the page).
From iBooks you can print them to a wireless printer easily.
    Hope this helps.

  • Why can't Lightroom open files from OneDrive when I try to add them to the catalogue?

It finds the files, says that they aren't available for preview, and if I try to import them anyway, it says that it can't open the files. They are jpeg from IOS and are only available online.

Yes, it turned out to be a version issue. The current version number at the time was 2014.8.2.something. My version was one version older. Pays to update right away!

  • Why can't I open files with Reader X??

I received an auto update request about one week ago from ADOBE.  I had 9.4 (I think) at the time and the request took to me to Reader X 10.1.1.
Since then, I cannot seem to open PDF files stored in my document library, nor attach any files to emails. When I click one.....nothing happens.  They files are all solid white rather than showing the red/white coloration of Adobe - like they used to before the "upgade". The only way I can open a PDF is to launch the Reader X software and click "open files" from there.  Obviously, this doesn't help me since I need to email PDFs to clients, and printing 'n faxing isn't an option.
Here's what I've done before so as to avoid repetitive suggestions:
    1.  Uninstalled and reinstalled (more than 1/2 dozen time).  I restarted the PC in between both fuctions. Didn't work.
    2.  Tried to fall back to 9.4 after uninstalling.  Didn't work.
3,  System restore.  Done for (3) different dates proceeeding the update to 10.1.  Didn't work.
    SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!!!
    Thanks in advance.....

You don't need Adobe Reader to email PDFs to clients.

  • Why can I not open file?

While always "error opening file-file cannot be found." When buying tickets for shows that are deliverred through internet, often the file cannot be found or there's error opening file? Seems to me that Adobe shoold have solved that problem by now?

Files downloaded from the internet are frequently located in a temp folder. If you then try to open the file in Reader it may not be there because the temporary file may now be gone. You need to ensure the pdf you are trying to view is saved in some more permanent location.

  • Why can't I Open files or Place files into a document?

When I first open Illustrator, I am able to Open files or Place files into a document. BUT, it seems that after a few minutes, I'm no longer able to do these functions.
I keep having to reboot every few minutes! Arg! Help!

I believe it must have been in CS4, or maybe CS3, rather than CS2.
Overlooking the version number, I posted the solution presented here (applying to CS3):

  • Why can't you attach files when replying to email?  Geez!

Come on Apple, this is a basic feature on every other smartphone...can't attach files in reply to emails and can 't attach them from starting an email directly...instead you have to go to the file first, select it and then tell it to send in an email. This is ridiculous!

Apps on the iPhone are pretty much sandboxed, with some exceptions. This means that any given app can only see files associated with that app. You cannot share any files between apps.
    You can't do this:
    1) Download a file from Safari and save it (app number 1)
    2) Edit that file (e.g. word processor) (app number 2)
    3) Copy that file (e.g. file explorer) (app number 3)
    4) Open an email and attach the file to it (app number 4)
    etc, etc.
You also can't save files associated with an app, delete that app and reinstall it, and then restore those files. If you could do this, you could do a "restore as a new phone" to fix whatever problems you might be having, but not lose anything in the process.
The iPad can't do this either, which eliminates it as a laptop replacement.
