Why can't we block tracking cookies?

Mac MINI late 2012 OSX 10.0.5 i7 2.3ghz, 4g ram 1t hdd
I have been trying to keep tracking cookies off due to the fact that aggressive anti malware programs don't do well in Mac. Safari help pages here say that if you reset Safari, all is erased. WRONG!! They stay there.
Firefox allows me to specify trusted sites to use cookies, etc. It won't allow me to swipe back on pages I've just browsed from. Bummer!

Describe your problem better. It maybe that you have malware already on your Mac.
You can run this:

  • Can Firefox be fixed to block tracking cookies even it the web site refuses to cooperate?

Too many web sites (e.g., New York Times, New Yorker, Google) do not honor the request to block tracking cookies. They add them back in within seconds after I delete them. Most of the added cookies are not, repeat not, from the owner of the website but are added via some agreement with the site owner. Most of these cookies are from sites having no connection with me or the site provider. Can or will Firefox provide an option to block all cookies inserted from the web site?

Firefox only sends a DNT=1 response header to the server.<br />
It is up to the server to decide what to do with that request.

Why can't I block certain people face timing and imessageing me? I keep receiving random facetime calls every 5 minutes got to the point where I have has to turn facetime off.

I'm having the same problem, but it's also coming through on my computer, through my Apple email address.  I have a very short Apple email, and little kids are trying to facetime their little friends, and then when I tell them I'm not their friend, they FaceTime or iMessage me even more, thinking that I'm still their friend, and I'm just kidding around.
I can't block the kids before they call...I don't know who they are.  I want to restrict my FaceTime to only my phone number, and block all FaceTime and iMessage requests that are coming in through my email address.  Can I do that?

  • How can I permanently delete tracking cookies?

I was alarmed to read the series in the series in the Wall Street Journal ( www.wsj.com/wtk ) about flash cookies, trackers, and beacons. I had always set my preferences (in Firefox) to not accept cookies, changing that only when I came to a site that required cookies (like Facebook), but then choosing the option to not accept 3rd-party cookies, changing my preferences after the visit, and deleting cookies.
I installed the add-ons suggested by the WSJ and on this website (Adblock Plus, Better Privacy, Ghostery, PrivacyChoice TrackerWater, and Taco. There is nothing in my Library>Preferences>Macromedia file. I visited the Adobe website and followed their instructions to delete flash cookies. Yet I cannot get rid of the cookies!
I tried this experiment: when not connected to the internet, with cookies turned off, I deleted all cookies, closed Firefox, and lo and behold, 150 cookies (yes, I counted them) had re-created themselves!
How can I get rid of them permanently? Please don't give me any pablum about them being harmless, they help to streamline the ads being shown to me, etc. etc. I don't care about that. This is MY computer and I do not want anyone installing anything on it! It irks me that deleting cookies deletes the useful cookies -- cookies that I would chose to keep -- but keeps all these other ones.
Please, if anyone knows, how can I permanently delete these cookies?

Get the Add-on NoScript for Firefox.
    http://noscript.net/
In addition, I always empty all cookies after a browsing session or at the end of the day. The worst is I have to log back in to some sites. You can't permanently eliminate the possibility of picking up a tracking cookie, but you can get rid of them if you pick one up. NoScript minimizes the chances of getting one, since you only allow the minimum scripts for a site to function. I suggest you start at the NS site and read about it. There's also a support forum which needs no registration. I won't have a lot of time today to explain much more.
Here what you do to completely eliminate Flash cookies. This works.
    +"Delete your ~/Library/Preferences/Macromedia folder so you're starting from a clean, shared-object-free, slate.+
+Next, in your web browser visit http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_man ager07.html and under the Global Privacy Settings, click the button labeled "always deny" then "confirm" to prevent Flash from watching you through your webcam or listening to you over the computer's microphone. Technically speaking this isn't necessary, but it seems like a prudent move if you don't like the idea of web sites accessing these resources. Don't bother changing anything else in the Settings Manager because the other stuff pretty much involves what and how much can get saved on your computer, and we're going to answer those questions entirely different means.+
+Now navigate in the Finder back to your ~/Library/Preferences/Macromedia folder and and recursively lock every file and folder inside it. This should include macromedia.com/support/flashplayer/sys/settings.sol, macromedia.com/support/flashplayer/sys, macromedia.com/support/flashplayer, macromedia.com/support, macromedia.com/#SharedObjects/<random letters and numbers>, macromedia.com/#SharedObjects, and finally the macromedia.com folder itself.+
    +That's it!+
+The cool thing about this is that Flash is convinced it can store this crap so everything works, but nothing is actually remembered by Flash. Or at least nothing is remembered between browser sessions. Flash apparently never tells sites attempting to store stuff that, even though storing is enabled, it doesn't actually work and nothing gets stored."+

  • Why Can't I Import Track 10 from my Music Library?

I have 350 albums in my computer music library and I can't import any track 10 song from an album to iTunes. The message I get is: "The file 10 <Whatever Song Name>.wma cannot be imported because it does not appear to be a valid exported file." This happens on every track 10 title in my library and on one track 1 title that is 14 minutes long. Help!

I am a PC user, but this may help you??:
I am having the same problem with track 10 on two Springsteen CDs that would not play in my desktop PC (one was a dual dvd, the other a regular CD). So first, to get them to work, I had to find a source (my laptop) that would "see" the CD. Then I ripped to Windows Media, then copied onto an external hard drive, then imported into iTUnes.
Everything went well until track 10 on both (After that, the rest of the tracks imported okay on one CD, and then on the other track 11 had a problem, but the rest ok).I found a posting (see below for the link) and it solved the problem on track 10 on both (basically I changed the track# to another number else in the Properties/ Summary/ Advanced section). However it didn't work for that one track 11. So if anyone has ideas on that, I'd appreciate it. I tried fiddling with all the differnt categories in Summary (track name, album name, etc) and rename the song itself, removing the number, but to no avail. Here is the posting that I found the solution on

  • Why can't we block a certain phone # from calling our phone?

    Verizon stated: when I asked?
Can I block an incoming number?
"Neither Verizon Wireless nor any other wireless provider is able to block specific numbers from your wireless phone; however, we are able to block all incoming calls. We strongly recommend that you utilize your Caller ID feature to screen your incoming calls. This way, you will be able to ignore unknown callers at your discretion. If the unwanted calls persist, we encourage you to change your wireless number."
    REALLY??? THAT'S JUST ASSSSININE....
By the way, That statement is Not True, I know for a Fact that STRAIGHT TALK, of All Company's has that feature & it comes Standard...  So what's up??? I don't get it???
The worst part is... the phone # calling me is:  000-000-0000  & the guy barely speaks english & keeps calling me about getting a loan to go to college.  I have told him, 3 times a day when he calls, NO THANK YOU, PLEASE STOP CALLING ME, BUT HE WON'T.  I bet I can't even block a 000-000-0000 number anyways.  Yet, they can get away with calling me with it.????

Hmm, what phone and what plan do you have?  I thought you could get up to 5 numbers blocked for up to 90 days for free on each line.  Can you just hit the END button when the call comes in to ignore it or send it straight to voicemail?  At least that way you won't get charged minutes when the # calls you.
Or, put that in as a contact, and choose NO ringtone, or silent ringtone, so you won't even hear when the call comes in and it will eventually go to VM - you won't have to do anything.

  • Why can't I block google's cookies? Everytime I select their domain to be blocked, their cookies STILL show up when I check 'Show Cookies.' Not cool..

I've done -both- selecting & blocking the domain name of Google for prefs, etc from it's website AND using the Firefox security options page and typing in Google's domain name then selecting it to remove its cookies. But every time I check the "Show Cookies" tab, google is STILL there in the cookie list even after I've done all this stuff. What must I do, what secret domain name must I type to ensure Google doesn't track me?
I'm already using DuckDuckGo as my sole search engine so there is NO reason why google should be able to attach cookies to me as I am NOT USING GOOGLE. Please help.
    Thank You!

I believe I have found the problem AND solution
From another forum, someone suggested that the cookies.sqlite file may be at fault, it is (normally) found in:
    C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxx.default
What I did was rename the file by appending a ".X" to the name in case I needed it again. The renamed file is cookies.sqlite.X . Note that you have to exit Firefox to rename the file. When Firefox is started again, a new cookies file will be created with no cookies.
This may be a PITA if you have or need a lot of cookies for your frequently visited web sites but it did eliminate the Google cookie.
Remember to have your settings in the Tools>Options>Privacy for history set to "Use custom settings for history" set according to your preferences.
NONE of the previous "answers" worked for me but I hope this works for you. It worked for me.

  • Why can i not deny a cookie once and have it stay blocked?

CAN WE GET A SINGLE "DENY COOKIE" FEATURE AGAIN PLEASE? in 2.x if i denied a site cookie, it stayed denied. in 3.x and 4.x EVERY SINGLE COOKIE PLACEMENT POPS UP EVEN IF I DENY IT.
see http://lists.hmdc.harvard.edu/lists/zelig/2005_03/msg00003.html for a good example of what i am talking about. if i deny the first cookie to pop up, 20 more from the same domain pop up behind it and i have to deny EVERY ONE of them to get to the web page.

that doesn't really have anything to do with my original issue. the way it used to work way back when was this: the first cookie attempts to set itself, i click "deny" and no other cookie from that domain tries to set itself.
the way it works now is this: the first cookie attempts to set itself, i start to click "deny" and EVERY COOKIE from that domain tries to set itself, prompting multiple popups for setting cookies which i have to click away until i can get to the actual web page. cookie monster is definitely the thing i was looking for, but the problem is that firefox used to do this on its own and hasn't since 3.x first came out.

  • Why can I not see tracks on icloud on my iPhone5 running latest iOs?

Hi I have 20608 tracks on my iCloud after running an update on iTunes match on my PC. I can only see 2019 on my phone even after turning match on and off several times. Anybody know what the issue is and how to solve it?
    Thanks Mike

    Hi MADMAKS,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  It sounds like another Apple ID might be involved here.  This article has some more information on how to check on that:
    iTunes Store: Troubleshooting iTunes Match
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4054
Some songs appear to be missing from iTunes Match
Songs purchased from multiple Apple IDs
Songs containing DRM (Digital Rights Management) may not appear, or may appear grayed out in iCloud. This can occur if your computer is not authorized for playback of that content. Try authorizing your computer, then manually update iTunes Match.
To determine what Apple ID your computer needs to be authorized for, locate and select the song in your iTunes library.
    Choose File > Get Info.
In the Summary tab, locate the Account Name field in the right column and write it down.
    Click OK.
Choose Store > Authorize this Computer.
Type in the account name from the Summary field and its password. Click Authorize.
Choose Store > Update iTunes Match.
    Check iCloud Status
Check to see the iCloud status of your songs. Choose View > View Options and enable "iCloud Status". iCloud status will help you to determine whether or not a song was purchased from the iTunes Store, matched, uploaded, or ineligible for upload. Items may not be eligible for upload if:
Your computer is not authorized for playback for that item.
The music video was not purchased from the iTunes Store or was purchased using a different Apple ID.
    Notes:
If a song contains DRM and is no longer available on the iTunes Store for purchase, the song is uploaded to iCloud and made available for download in protected DRM format. You will be required to authorize your computer or device for playback.
A song will not be uploaded to iCloud if the song contains DRM, was purchased using a different Apple ID, and could not be matched.
When you subscribe to or enable iTunes Match, your iOS device or computer will be associated to the Apple ID being used for iTunes Match. Learn more about associating a device or computer to an Apple ID.
    Cheers,
    - Ari

  • Why can't Apple help track stolen iPods

I had my iPod stolen sometime between curbside check-in and baggage pick-up during a recent trip on American Airlines from Dallas to St Louis. Someone found my 30GB iPod that I had hidden in the pocket of a pair of jeans in my checked baggage. I have the serial number and feel that Apple could help, through itunes, provide some way of tracking.
    Any thoughts?

A computer need never be connected to the internet in order to use an iPod with iTunes, so Apple have no process in place to either report or track stolen iPods. All you can do is report the theft to the Police together with the serial number, and if your iPod was registered with Apple when you first got it, they will assist the Police in returning it to you should it ever be recovered.

  • How do I block tracking cookies?

I have Mac version 3.6.13. I read other posts for turning off third-party cookies, but I can't find that in the Mac version.
    Thanks, Vince.

Sorry guy, but that preference option "Accept third-party cookies" does NOT exist. I'm not sure what you're referring to. I've added a screen capture. Remember, I'm using Firefox 3.6.13 for Mac.

  • Why can't I see Tracked Changes in InDesign?

My colleagues using InCopy are using Track Changes and Notes. I can see their Notes in InDesign, but not the Tracked Changes. Am i forced ito InCopy to view these changes?

    Hi,
Just like Bob says, InCopy adds to the editorial "work flow" in a one-way-lane way in your case. The CtrlChanges plug-in gives you the ability to see changes in layoutview for both InDesign and InCopy. Depending on what version of CtrlChanges one chooses, the plug-in gives you the ability to accept or reject changes in InDesign or InCopy. The track changes function is attached to the document and not in anyway InCopy specific. This means that if you start the track changes process in the document, that document can be edited by someone that does not have CtrlChanges and their changes will be seen when in the document.
So you do not need InCopy to reach your goal. Just a little help from a plug-in :-)

  • Why can't we have "show cookies" menu be a button in the new drop down menu on FF29 ?

I see the new Firefox 29 has a drop down menu in the upper right corner, with various shortcut symbols. One of them is "preferences", but I would like to make that to be have an even shorter shortcut to "show cookies", instead of having it buried in several clicks as in the old versions of FF.

    # Install Cookie Manager Button and restart Firefox if prompted.
    # Right-click (or Ctrl+click) an empty area of the tab bar and choose Customize.
    # Drag the Cookies button from the palette onto the menu panel on the right.
