Why can't we have folders AND stacks in the dock?

If I drag a single item into the dock, I want it to remain a single item.
If I drag multiple items into the dock, I want them to become a stack.
If I drag one folder filled with multiple items, it should only turn into a stack on my say-so, like if I Option-Drag it onto the dock or something. Stacks shouldn't be forced onto the user.
Please make Stacks an ADDED FEATURE and not an ABSOLUTE CHANGE in everyone's daily workflow.

I might actually buy a windows laptop. So sad.
No need, as long as Apple continues to offer a notebook line-up that includes built-in optical drives, to buy a Windows machine... yet.
As I said, the only thing that I use my SuperDrive for now is backups of all those digital software deliveries, documents, etc. If I finally break down and buy an external Blu-ray drive, I won't use the SuperDrive at all. But right now I have almost 12 years of back-ups on DVD, both single and dual layer - so, for now, I need my optical drive.
I'm hoping that - one day - Apple will sell MacBook Pros with Blu-ray drives. Hey, I can wish, right?

That is true - I apologize for not being specific - what I was mainly referring to is iLife applications. I have a notice on the App Store that says 3 apps need updates, I look at the apps and they are huge so since my connection is so slow I use my work connection and d'load the files from support to my Windows machine and carry them home, once d'loaded my MacAir states it cannot install, the update must come from the App Store.
I do the same thing for large Leopard and Lion files and I can install them without error, it is just the App Store files that the system stops.

Its good to have a lighter macbook pro for those who don't need the superdrive....BUT, What about those (like myself) who desperately want a superdrive in their macbook pro and also the retina display!! Why can't I run Safari and Skype at the same time without making my computer freeze up?

I can't believe I can't run Safari and Skype at the same time without my computer freezing up, it's a MacBook Pro with Mac OS 10.6.8 and it has an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU with 2.2 Ghz and 2 Gb of RAM. Is this a hardware problem or a software problem?

I haven't gone to the trouble of actually testing to see which uses more CPU power, but Firefox has been faster than Safari on every Mac I've ever owned.
To see CPU usage by process, open the terminal (in Utilities) and enter 'top' at the command line. You might have to expand the window as processes don't appear in any logical order.
It could also be hardware-related: I have late 2009 mini with similar specs and it pinwheels easily.

Why can't I have two applications open on the desktop at the same time ?

I can, it seems, with two Mac applications (eg Numbers and Pages) but cannot with non-Mac software. For example I would like to have Firefox (web broswer) open at the same time as running Songbird (music player). But when I click on one the other minimises to the dock. I've tried varios combinations of holding companion keys down when I click (CMD, Shift etc) to no avail.

Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click Manual Setup
Click the Internet icon
Click the Internet Connection tab
Connect Using = Ethernet
Connection Sharing = Share a public IP address
Click Update to save settings
Wait a full minute for the Time Capsule to restart, then check the network again.

Why Can't We Have A "Sticky" FAQ At The Top Of This Forum?

I am back at my old MOAN again - probably with the same result!
Lots of newcomers are asking the same questions repeatedly.
A prominent FAQ would help everyone greatly.
When you join the forums you are told to do a search before asking a question - but I can still remember how baffling everything was for the first few days. Even if I remembered I needed to search I don't think I could have done one!
So is there any chance at all of getting a prominent FAQ ?

Seems a good idea. However, someone would have to do the work/organising, hopefully with help from members subject to the (expert) organiser monitoring their offers. Even I - a raw beginner still struggling throught the quicksands of video - could contribute something.

Why can't i use wifi and bluetooth at the same time?

I recently bought a Philips docking speaker that has bluetooth connectivity for streaming music wirelessly from my Ipod Touch. The bluetooth/speaker works great, but, my Touch won't allow me to be online AND use the bluetooth at the same time. This is really annoying when you want to listen to music and check your emails. Am I doing something wrong?? Any help would be gratefully received.

I can use by BT headphones while my iPod is connected to the internet via wifi with no problems. I am uncertain how the Philips' system works. Does it have its own BT transmitter/receiver or doe it use the iPods to stream to its speaker?

Select that folder, choose Get Info from the File menu, and give yourself read access under Sharing & Permissions. This shouldn't be done on folders in system directories.

Two different processes can have different task initiators...task initiator means creation of a process instance which can happen only once
