Why can't you simply print a photo in iPhoto? It wants me to create a "theme" first? What's that all about?
When I try to print in iPhoto it won't let me print without creating a "theme" first. Is there any way you can just print? I don't want a theme, I just want to print!
"themes" are simply print protocols. Yes you can have some layout, but plain is also theme. At a wild guess you're getting a "no theme installed message"?
To re-install iPhoto
1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5: Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows: In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
/var/db/receipts/
2c: on 10.7 they're at
/private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.

Why can't the great computer iTunes gods simply add a program that solves the great Exclamation Point Bugaboo, making iTunes capable of finding all files and eliminating this massive annoyance and the misery it causes?? Why do we, the customer, have to do the boring drone work and find the **** files when the computer should be doing it??
This happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout, or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .

Why can't other computers open and/or download my photos when I email themfrom IPhoto? Have also tried making it a separate file on my desk; to no avail.
It shows as an icon and jpeg when it goes out from my computer but they can't download it.
They might see the photo imbedded in the emil but it doesn't appear as a downloadable icon.

Make a file on your desktop and name it "test"
Go to iPhoto and click on a photo to send to this folder
Go to file and choose "export"
Pop up window - Kind: jpeg
quality: maximum
size: full
click on export and choose the "test" folder you created on the desktop.
You can now send any jpeg that you put in this folder from an email account by "attaching file" from within the email. If you have more than one jpeg, right click on the folder and choose "compress file" -
HT4927 Why can't we restore a single photo in iPhoto anymore?
The loss of this functionality has been anoying and I sincerely hope that Apple brings it back someday. It makes Time Machine a lot less useful for customers and also potentially leads to the loss of more data. It used to be that you could restore a single image, say that was acidentally deleted. Now if you were to restore the entire iPhoto Library with Time Machine, you'd get the one image back but lose every other image you added since then. That make no sense. Of course Time Machine will ask if you want to overwrite thr iPhoto Library or duplicate and keep the original, but how many people are going to know they should keep the original? And if you have a large library you may not have the space. Even if you did dupe the Library you would then need to Open the restored Library (hold option while opening iPhoto and select the Library), find the image you want back, copy it out of the old Library, quit iPhoto, re-open iPhoto with the existing Library, re-add the photo you want to restore. Way too many steps.
There is another workaround that I will share here, but it too is too complex for many people. Bottom line Apple needs to bring back the old method for restoring iPhotos using Time Machine.
Here's how I would restore a single image in iPhoto with Time Machine. I personally also make an extra backup of the iPhoto Library before using this method, just in case.
Go to ~/Pictures/iPhoto Library
Right+Click the iPhoto Library and choose 'Show Package Contents'
Click the 'Originals' alias
Now you should see a bunch of folders organized by year
Activate Time Machine
Browse back to find the image you want to restore. The folders go by year > month > day. After that the folder and image names are cryptic, but you can use the previews to find the image you want to restore.
Select it and restore it with Time Machine.
I would then move the image out of the ~/Pictures/iPhoto Library package folder and re-add it manually to iPhoto.There is a way if you know the photo's file name but not fast.
1 - download and launch Find Any File
2 - select the Time Machine drive and search for the file name.
3 - you'll get several hits in each library backup, i.e. the original, thumbnail, preview and editied version.
4 - make sure you choose the file in the Originals or Masters folder and drag from the search results window to the Desktop.
Due to the nature of the backup structure the search can take a while.
Send a feature request to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html to bring back the single photo restore.

Why can't I drag and drop photos from iPhoto on my iMac to my iPad?
I have thousands of photos on my iMac and often want to copy a few dozen to my iPad to bring to my relatives. It seems that I should be able to create an album on my iMac and drag it to my iPad but I can't. Didn't Apple get where it is by making things simple like drag and drop? Why is it like a state secret to get some photos moved over? I'd really like to know the reason. I don't want a convoluted work-around. This isn't Windows!

I know how to sync photos but object to having to treat my photos on the iPad in such an unintuitive way. Maybe I'm alone ( but I doubt it ) but I have photos on my iPad and iPhone for several different purposes. I keep photos of things I want to paint, photos of friends and relatives, photos of items I saw that I may want to buy and snapped the ISBN code. Photos of book list of authors I like that I want to read so if I see one in a used book store I remember which ones I haven't read yet. I don't think this is unreasonable or even something that only I want. I don't want to delete all of this every time I want to add another photo. I know I can back it up to my iMac and restore it plus the new photo later but this is not what I expect or want from Apple. I have had Apple products since the Apple II and Macs since March 1984 and it was because Apple always seemed to try and figure what the user wanted first and foremost but this seems to have changed. I would prefer most iPhoto and iTunes app versions from ten years ago to those coming out now because they valued intuitive interface over exotic features. Apple is the product 'for the rest of us' but not anymore it seems.
Maybe there are some good reasons why Apple is doing it, security, contracts, etc but I'd like to know. Maybe some of the users know and will give straight answers.

When I take pictures with my iPad they go to my iPhone but when I take pictures with my iPhone they don't go to my iPad. How can I get the pictures I take with my iPhone to my iPad?
Check the following:
From your Home screen, tap Settings > iCloud > Photo Stream, and make sure the slider is set to the ON position.
From the Home screen, tap Settings > Wi-Fi, make sure the slider is set to ON, and that your device is connected to a wireless network.
Ensure that Camera app is closed on the device where you took the photo. Photo Stream will not upload photos from an iOS device until the Camera app is closed.
Ensure your iOS device has not fallen below 20% battery power. To preserve battery life, Photo Stream downloading and uploading are disabled when the battery reaches this threshold. Downloading and uploading will resume once you charge your device, and the battery charge is greater than 20%. -
I have upgraded to bt hub 4 but my iPod picks up a full signal then when opening safari it says cannot open as there is no connection but iPod showing full connection. I have upgraded to the latest software can anyone help pleas ?

Try the following to rule out a software problem:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Power off and then back on the router
- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
- iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
- Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
- iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
- Restore from backup. See:

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

Can't sync as not enough room in itunes? what's that all about?
I've just tried to sync my iphone to do a back up (hasn't been done in ages) as my new iphone should arrive tomorrow. It did all its syncing (I thought) then gave me the message that there wasn't enough room (in itunes) and it wasn't able to sync. As it's on its last legs I really need this backup to transfer everything to my new phone. Please help! Thanks very much Sally
Looking at previous comments on this subject I've managed to solve the problem myself by deleting apps off itunes and then deleting the same ones on my iphone. Had to do it a couple of times to get enough space but it seems to have worked.

Sure - easiest way is to make an album for photos you want to order and drag photos to it - when it is complete open the album, select all and order

Why can't you print a cd jewel case listing of songs using iTunes. Is there some other way to do this without using iTunes?

Why can I no longer import EDITED photo from my iPad to my Mac using Image Capture? This is farcical and a real problem having to email them individually to myself and is totally inefficient time wise compared to previously using image capture! Why change this when it was working well and very quickly until the latest change. Now I have to move files from downloads into an appropriate folder, after emailing each individual edited image to myself, then I have to open in Photoshop and rename the file. This is ludicrous and takes forever to do!

Not a good idea.
What you could do, is have the Library content on the external hard drive and simply tell your iTunes programme to look on the hard drive for your music etc.. However, once you set that up, that hard drive needs to be connected and ready to read, before you start the iTunes programme. If it isn't ready, iTunes will simply go back to the default location for the music, find nothing and then you'll be back here saying that you've lost your Library.
