I just purchased a premiere elements 10, and i tried to open a project from the older version and i says it can not open
WHy?
Depends on how old your old version is, I suppose... In any case, ask in the PRE forum and provide a lot more info...

AE CS5 can't load projects from an earlier version

I have several AE projects created back in 2006. I've tried to open them in AE CS5 but I get an error:
(Translated from spanish) After Effects error: this file was created in an earlier version of After Effects [5.5.1 (Windows)] and can't be opened. You can convert this file using an earlier version of After Effects and saving it again.
What a solution! I can't even remember what AE version was used to create the file back in 2006!
Is this normal? new versions of AE can't load earlier version projects or what?
What can I do? I don't have an earlier version of AE at hand right now...
OK, Let's suppose I did that project in After Effects 6 (I'm not sure, but maybe). Let's suppose I can install and run AE6 in my Windows 7 x64 machine (I'm not going to downgrade to Windows XP x32). OK, I load the project, And save it again? What's the point on doing this? I can't save it in AE-CS5 format from AE6. If it was created in AE6 I can only save it in AE6 format (the format that it already has) or older, but not newer!
Just imagine if MS Word 2010 could not load docs created in MS Word 2003...Yes, this is normal and it's documented in the help. The rest is beside the point - even Microsoft could have decided to cease support on their old formats and it was actually under discussion for Office 2007 to avoid the various security issues associated with those old formats. You know, programs evolve and it's simply not possible to always guarantee 100% legacy compatibility....

How to open project from an earlier version (RH x3) using RoboHelp 6.
Hello everyone, I need your help. I have recently upgraded
from RH x3 to RH V6. I have just completed the installation of RH6
after spending long time with Adobe customer support as it took
them long time to figure out how to provide me the unlocking key to
install RH v6.
BTW I have only installed RoboHelp 6 by itself. I did not
install their Source Control because we already have Visual Source
Safe which we have been using in our company.
Also, since I had Adobe Reader 8 installed on my PC, I did
not install Acrobat Element 7 either. As I suppose if Acrobat 7 or
higher is installed RH v6 was not going to install Acrobat Element
7.
Well, now after I have installed RH v6, my first step is to
find out how to open project from an earlier version (RH x3) using
RoboHelp 6.
RH x3 is installed on my old PC and I am working on my new PC
where I have installed RH V6.
Sorry, for providing you too many details, the purpose is
only to give you a clear picture.
Please, give me your feedback if I am doing everything
correct and how should I open the project from an earlier version.

Thank you so much for the response. Actually, after I posted
the question on Forum we had lost internet connection for some time
and I just went ahead and tried it by myself.
This is what I did – since we use MS Visual Source
Safe, my all files were in the working folder of VSS in my c drive.
I just clicked the Open tab/More Files in RoboHelp Starter and
located the RoboHelp HTML Project File. It opened without any
problem. Everything looks alright.
Is there anything specific I should be checking to make sure
if it is working fine in this version of RH. Because I did not
create this project, somebody else did and I have never used this
tool before this is the first time I will be using.
I found your site pretty helpful though and it did have some
information about Source Safe. I still have one question related to
Visual Source Safe that Is RoboHelp v6 linked to VSS automatically
and check the files out from it automatically whenever a project is
opened or we have to manually set the link between the RH6 &
VSS.
In RH x3 whenever I would open a project it would prompt a
message that in order to open this project the following files need
to be writable, would you like to make them writable, selecting
that option would checkout all the files from the VSS to make them
writable. However, in RH V6 I opened an existing project and it
opened without checking out the project files from VSS. Do you have
any idea what’s happening?
Ps: Do you recommend any book on RH 6 for starters or any
other recommendation?

Can the MBP 13 boot into earlier versions of the OS via firewire?
Apologies if this is addressed elsewhere, but I can't find a definite answer.
I have the current v. of the MBP 13 (just purchased this week.) I would like to use it to boot into 10.4.x on an external drive via firewire. I've tried every which way, and it just doesn't seem to want to do it.
(I can select the disk/system in the start up disk pane, but the result is a stalled blank screen and the operation has to be aborted. The external disk also appears when starting with the option key, but when I click on it, the cursor freezes.)
This used to work perfectly with my old intel white macbook. It appears that the new MBPs can't boot into previous OSs. Is that the case? I just want to make sure it's not something I'm doing wrong.
(The reason I want to do it is that my admittedly old Adobe stuff (Photoshop/Dreamweaver/etc) won't run with 10.6 and I can't afford to upgrade it at the moment. I can still use those programs with the old macbook but it is quite literally crumbling to pieces on my lap despite layers and layers of duct tape and it's not gonna last long.)
So: can the MPB 13 boot into earlier OSs or not? Anybody know?Is that the case?

How can I access the add-ons from my earlier version of Firefox?
Firefox disappeared from my computer after a malware attack. Unfortunartely, my add-ons and extensions have also disappeared. I've tried to re-install my original Firefox 4, but without success. Firefox 9.01 has been installed and I cannot access my original Firefox 4 and m;y add-ons and extensions. Can anybody help please. in English
As far as i understand the plugins are installed in the 'plugins' directory (look for this inside the directory where you installed the Firefox). In Windows it should be something like 'C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\Plugins'. If plugins are there then this directory should NOT BE empty
You can also cross check whether the plugins are there are not via Firefox itself (Tools -> Add-ons -> Plugins) See if this lists out anything or not.
Most probably what happened is that when the new version of the Firefox was installed it overwrote that 'plugins' directory and hence now is not able to find them.

Why can't I upgrade from older full version?
Hi, I am seeing "full" versions of CS3 and 4 on sale for low prices but some say you cannot upgrade from these. I've never heard of this before. Is this because of the low pricing or does Adobe sell "special" full versions that don't allow you to upgrade?

SteveHeh. Do a Google Maps street view of the place where they say they are. They don't actually have a storefront that I can see, but even if they did, take a good look at that place... Do you think you could walk into any place there and buy legitimate software? I'd be fearing for my life, frankly.
The reason you can't upgrade is that the serial number (if you even get one) is pirated and Adobe's no fool. They're not going to accept them for upgrade! Simple as that!

Editing Old Project from External Hard Drive
Last year my G5 developed an incurable Kernel error issue. I decided to buy a new iMac and have been very pleased. I backed up my system to an external hard drive and now I would like to access an old project from the external drive.
I selected the external drive and went to the last date of my backup. However, this is where I have no idea how to complete this task. Can I simply open FCE and import the project from the drive? Will all of the media transfer over?
Would really like to know the ins and outs before I begin and paint myself into a corner. Any help would be appreciated.

Not sure what you mean by "restore". I am assuming I will need to do the following:
1. Open FCE
2. Import the old project from my external drive
3. This is where I get lost. Can you please fill in the blanks from her for me. I cannot seem to find the instructions to do this anywhere.

Can Creative Cloud applications open all earlier versions of CS files?

My apologies if this question is answered elsewhere. I am considering a subscription to CC for either InDesign only, or the entire suite. Can someone please confirm to me whether CC applications can only open files from certain earlier versions, and if so, which ones?

PaulID should be able to open pretty much any file back to CS2, but you may lose some components since e.g. clipping paths and transparency handling have changed over the years. Same would be true for Illustrator - stuff may get expanded or render differently. PS files should be compatible with any version as long as they have been saved with maximum compatibility settings.

I have the iPhone 5s. I synced it with my Mac and got all the old apps from my old phone. I was not able to update any of the apps on the old phone and they will not update on the new iPhone 5s either! What can I do?

It sounds like you are wanting to update the Apps that were synced over from your computer to your new iPhone 5s. If you are clicking Updates in the App Store in the bottom right corner, would you mind clarifying what happens when you are trying to update them?

If I choose "restore from iTunes backup" to move everything from old iphone to a new one, will I still be able to use the old phone for music and apps? Can the old phone be docked up to that same computer every now and then? Or will the new and old phone overwrite each other in some way? In other words, are the two phones treated as different devices when the "restore" option is used to set up the new phone? Thanks in advance.
