Why cannot I view my passwords in keychain after having set up parental controls?

I used to be able to open keychain, click on any particular key, click on the box "view password" and see the password after entering my administrator name and master password. Then, I set up parental  controls on my macbook pro because I got tired of seeing all the pornographic ads and such that would often pop up when I did a google search. Now, any time I need to see one of my passwords, I only get a dialog box stating that "access is denied."  Any ideas on how to solve this frustrating problem?

hello gstout, you can use the no squint extension - it allows you to set a global zoom level for all sites: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/nosquint/

  • LR5: Why can't I import my pictures again after having them used for editing in Lightroom?

    Hi!
A week ago I was editing 800 pictures of my last holidays in Lightroom 5.2. After having them exported I noticed that I didn't check the quality settings for export, so I wanted to import the original files again.
And that's where I'm having issues right now. I can't open them anymore. Though they are all availabe, they are shaded in grey and are not selectable:
Going back to the original holidays folder, it strikes me that it's only possible to import such pictures which I haven't picked to edit in Lightroom before:
I tested other original files of pictures I already edited in Lightroom and they work. It's only about these holiday pictures. The exported, edited holiday pictures appear in Lightroom for importing. It seems like Lightroom has problems with the original files which has been imported to Lightroom once. An Update to LR 5.6 didn't help. Has anyone any idea how to solve this problem?
    Thanks
    Patrick

You don't re-import photos in Lightroom. There is no need to do so and this only would cause problems.
Instead, for those photos that you cannot import, you simply find them in the Library Module, and continue to use them (if you want to export them again at different settings, then you export from the existing photo in the Library module)

  • Why does TextEdit revert to Helvetica 12 even after you set a new default font whenever you drop an image into an RTFD?

Anyone know a workaround for when TextEdit reverts to Helvetica 12 even after you set the new default to say Verdana 14 every time your drop an image into an RTFD? Kind of defeats the purpose! Is there a way around this? THANKS!

Among the alternatives not mentioned... Using a TiVo DVR, rather than the X1; a Roamio Plus or Pro would solve both the concern over the quality of the DVR, as well as providing the MoCA bridge capability the poster so desperately wanted the X1 DVR to provide. (Although the TiVo's support only MoCA 1.1.) Just get a third-party MoCA adapter for the distant location. Why the hang-up on having a device provided by Comcast? This seems especially ironic given the opinions expressed regarding payments over time to Comcast. If a MoCA 2.0 bridge was the requirement, they don't exist outside providers. So couldn't the poster have simply requested a replacement XB3 from the local office and configured it down to only providing MoCA bridging -- and perhaps as a wireless access point? Comcast would bill him the monthly rate for the extra device, but such is the state of MoCA 2.0. Much of the OP sounds like frustration over devices providing capabilities the poster *thinks* they should have.

  • Missing view option passwords in keychain access

When i open keychain access the option to show passwords has gone.
Why and how can i restore it ?
    Thanks Terry

    Hi Linc,
When l open the keychain access box the list headings when l choose passwords are
: Name| Kind | Date Modified | Keychain | and this one used to be passwords but is now blank|
but of course it had a series of dots before where the passwords should be, now there are no dots below.
Then from the drop down list l could opt to ` show passwords' and they would appear, but the heading and the dots are no longer there beneath,
and l don`t have the option to show them from the drop down menu, so it`s not the main password but the option to remind myself what all passwords l chose
are, slightly dissconcerting to say the least.
l hope this isn`t too long winded, l wondered if l had caused this myself somehow or more worryingly someone  or thing else.
    Regards,
    Terry
P.S. l know l can use Safari for the Safari saved passwords but that is not the point, l don`t like my mac hiding personal data from me, it seems odd .
    Thanks again.

  • How can I view previous passwords on Keychain/iCloud

    Hi,
So I accidentally entered the wrong password for a website and it asked me if I wanted to update the password on my keychain/icloud. Of course, I wasn't even thinking and clicked update. Now I have no clue what my correct password is for the website I am trying to access.
Is there a way to see the previous passwords for a specific website? Or does the keychain erase the previous passwords?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thank you

    I'm running mavericks. 10.9.2.
Upon closer inspection, It appears that Web form passwords are updated not added as a new entry unless the login/username differs.
If you have time machine active you might be able to goback to a previoius keychain?

Any ideas what's happening here and how to fix this problem?

    It's normal.

  • Why cant i change user password or pwdlastset after delegation for only certain users in an ou?

I remembered a while ago I used delegate control to assign the ability to reset pwd and reset change on next logon.  It seems to work for some users but not others in same ou.  effective permissions shows I have write access to the attribute for
the user; see imgur link below.  the box for change pwd at next logon is gray.  attribute editor tab doesn't allow me to edit it either.  domain admins can change it.  I'm wondering what else I should check out cus everything I know says
I have the right to change it.

I think this is a problem with the user object rather than the ou.  Reasoning is that I can reset a password for a user in the same OU but not for another user in the same OU.  Two users, same ou.  I can reset one but not the other.
Effective Permissions shows I am granted permisiion to do so.
I believe the error was access denied when we tried to change the password via vbscript.
@seansobey - I applied the delegation at a ou higher in the tree.  I forget how I had it apply down the tree but I confirmed that the acl is correct
    and applied to the user
@Travis Vogel - It looks like the user with this problem is a part of Domain Users.  I think the ACL is applied to the user because it shows in
the security window and effective permissions shows I have permission to reset the password.  However, I see this other user is a part iof the builtin user group and the problematic user account is not.  I may try adding the problematic user account
to that group and testing.  It'll have to wait until tomorrow though.

  • I was experimenting setting up parental controls on my macbook pro and selected to set up my current account with controls.  Apparently my admin name and password are not what i thought, because now I cannot unlock them.

I thought my admin user name and password were the same I sign on with, apparently not because now I am locked out of my own computer.  I took two hours to reload mavericks from ap store, because i was told it would give me the option of changing the password. It did not. Sooooo, that's where I am. Thanks for any help.

  • 11 Release 2 Activex viewer prompts for parameters even after I set them in the program

My program worked in 11 base.  I upgraded to 11 Release 2 and now the viewer prompts the user for the parameters even though the program has set the parameters
    here's some of the code
    Dim aCRreport As CRAXDRT.Report
    Dim crystalParms As CRAXDRT.ParameterFieldDefinitions
    Dim crystalParm As CRAXDRT.ParameterFieldDefinition
    Set aCRreport = m_CRapp.OpenReport("c:\somereport.rpt")
    Set crystalParms = aCRreport.ParameterFields
    Set crystalParm = crystalParms(1)
    crystalParm.SetCurrentValue FormatDateTime(Now, vbShortDate), crStringField
    frmViewer.CRViewer1.ReportSource = aCRreport
    frmViewer.CRViewer1.ViewReport
the viewer opens and asks for a value for parameter one.
Thanks, in advance, for any help

I got the same problem. I could encounter it does appear when using date parameters. We are using german OS and german VS6 so date is localized as "dd.mm.yyyy" but in the report parameter fields it is expected as "jjjj-mm-dd". I cant convert the param in code because it will always be localized to german date.
Could this be the problem? When yes why isn't crystal reports accepting localized dates?

  • Parental Controls, Passwords, & Administrative Users

I am thinking of buying a couple MacBooks for my teenage kids. I'm pleased to see that Apple has finally added usable Parental Controls, particularly the website tracking feature. (Teenagers need to be able to go anywhere but also to realize that someone is at least potentially looking over their shoulder.) But my kids also need to be able to run updates and otherwise install software on their machines. In Leopard can I give them administrative privileges without allowing them to turn off Parental Controls? I assume this could be implemented either through a super-adminstrator account (I always establish a 'master' as well as an 'administrator' account, in addition to individual accounts, when setting up a family computer) or through a separate password established by whoever first sets up Parental Controls. (The latter approach would probably be better, for the same reason that an administrator should not have access to a user's documents.) But I can't find anything online that indicates exactly who can access and modify Parental Controls under OS 10.5. Thanks.

    Hi--
After looking in a few places I have to say that your problem an interesting one.
There are some options that are useful for your problem:
The first being applications; no, there is not a way for them to 'install' applications into the 'Applications' folder without administrative privileges, however they can install them into their own 'User' directory so long as those applications are not dependent on certain admin privileges.
Installing applications mean that they would have power to install other web browsers etc that wouldn't be logged by Parent Controls, so this is the trade off of needing your assistance in that matter. If you are with your children most days then things like Updates can be added when you are aware of them as well.
If however you're more interested in monitoring your children's activity without them knowing then you may be out of luck for now, because no matter what they need that Admin login to do system updates or add applications to the applications folder, so they're going to know they aren't in control of their computers completely.
    Hope that helps somewhat,

  • Why is my apple ID password not working on ipad2 after updating to iOS6?

Why is my apple ID password not working after upgrading to iOS6?

    Who knows?
Settings>iTunes and App Stores>Tap your ID and sign out. Reboot your iPad.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Go back to the settings and sign back in again and see of it works now.
If it doesn't work, post back with some information that might help us help you. Describe what you are doing in some detail and it might let us better understand why this is happening.

  • Does upgrading to iOS 4.2 reset the Parent Control password?

A month or two ago, I updated my son's iPod Touch 3G from version 4.1 to version 4.2 via my computer (not his).
Sometime later, I discovered that my son had set the Parent Control password to something completely different, and all of the parent controls had been turned off.
My son claims that the update had reset the password, and he set it to a different password, which he did give to me when I discovered the change. (I won't go into his excuse for setting a new password.)
I am suspicious. I have not found any evidence on the web of parent controls being reset by an upgrade, and I think it would be poor design to have an upgrade reset the parent control password.
So, if you upgrade an iPod Touch on a computer which is not its primary computer, does the password and parent control settings get reset?
    Further info:
When upgrading his iPod Touch, I did not sync it to my computer. After the upgrade, all his settings (Mail, apps, etc.) were still working. I have my own iPod Touch that I do sync to my computer, and it has no parent control settings enabled, nor a parental control password. I keep my iPod Touch at version 3.1.3, for development purposes. I'm running 10.6.5, iTunes 10.
Please answer only if you know (e.g., you've tested this) or if you have a conjecture as to why this might indeed happen. I'm not in the mood for any parenting lessons.
    Thanks!
    Henry

You are absolutely correct. A simply update to the latest version of iOS will not restore the device to factory settings. If you did the update yourself, at the end of the installation you would have been presented with an option to restore from backup or setup as a new device. Of course you would have chosen to restore from backup because you say that all email and apps were exactly as before. The restrictions are carried over exactly as before when you restore from backup, including the restrictions passcode and any settings you had selected.
The only conclusion (if the sequence above is correct) that can be made is that someone intentionally restored the device to factory settings after the upgrade and then setup a new restrictions passcode.
Having said that, these statements in your description are contradicting each other:
    - I updated my son's iPod Touch 3G from version 4.1 to version 4.2 via my computer (not his).
    - When upgrading his iPod Touch, I did not sync it to my computer
How exactly the upgrade happened could tell you if you made a simple mistake or if he or someone else intentionally restored the device.

  • Parental Control: Allowed apps now ask for password

    Hello,
    Mac OS 10.7.2.
I have set up parental controls on my kids' accounts and I have turned on the restrict applications setting.
I have placed check box next to each app they are allowed to use, Mail, iTunes, specific games etc.
I have un-checked a few specific apps, TurboTax, etc, that they don't need access to.
When they log in and try to use their allowed applications, Mail, Safari, etc, it is asking them for an admin password on everything they are trying to open, even though the apps are checked on the 'allowed' application list.
Is this normal?? I thought it should only ask for a password on apps that are NOT on the allowed list..

Hello, I wondered if you got through to Microsoft and they managed to change your parental control options?  I am having the same problem as you with downloading apps on my son's phone - need parental control, but it doesn't let me carry it out comes out with a error code and says contact support.
I tried to contact Microsoft but they put me on hold - sending my call to America and India (was on hold for an hour or so).  I have logged a complaint and emailed Microsoft but still nobody gets back to me.
So currently have a  phone for my son but he cannot download apps.  Dont want to reinstall as he will have to change all his details on Xbox and all his avitars etc (friends) - we want to keep his same email address.
Driving me crazy and Microsoft not coming forward with any advice.  All I want to do is adjust my parental control to let my son download apps.
Appreciate any help please. Thank You
