Why cant apple track stuff without icloud

i recently lost my ipod. so i download the find my iphone app that also finds ipods and ipads. i type my info in and it says my apple id in vaild nut i dont have a icloud account so i went to the icloud web site looking tho sign up and it says i need the lastest update thingy the problem is i never updated my ipod apple is a muti-million dollar maybe even muti-billion dollar company and u telling me that you cant track a ipod just because its not updated thats some bs so i want to know y cant u track it?

Your carrier can lock the IMEI number, try contacting them. At least you'll have the satifsaction of knowing the theif can't use it anymore. My guess is Apple doesn't block IMEI numbers because they don't want someone selling a phone without record, and then reporting it stolen and causing problems that way. But that's just a guess, I feel for ya. Good luck either way, if it's a locked phone you should be able to call the carrier it's locked to and have the IMEI blocked.

Hi, my iphone was stolen around a month ago. After the phone popped up on find my iphone in central london the police decided to be really helpful and instead going to get it they closed my case. Since then it has been offline because the "lovely" individual who stole it obviously reset it. I was just wondering why doesnt apple track phones through the IMEI number. The number stays the same, so if the phone connects to the network they should be able to know that its my stolen iphone. I just dont understand why they dont do that. They have a huge ecosystem, and if someone signs in to my iphone with their itunes account (which they pretty much have to in order to use most of the phones features) the IMEI number gets associated with that perticular account. Would it not be possible for them to realize that its my stolen phone?

You can only log into icloud.com from your computer browser, not from an iOS device such as an iPhone. On an iOS device you can already access all your iCloud data from within the apps on the device itself.

Not from the sale of software and certainly not from iTunes store sales. The iTunes store is set up as a break even for Apple with this included with their financial reporting.
You are right about Apple not wanting to depend on a 3rd party for playing video via the internet, and anyone with a clue wouldn't want that either.

Why does Apple still allow stolen Macbook Pro to be repair under warrenty or apple protection for the criminal?

If I tell you it was stolen at gun point, how would you protect it?
Don't carry it around advertising the fact you have valuables.
It could have been a diamond ring, or a gold chain or anything else perceived as value.
Heck people get robbed of their laundry detergent because it's so easily sold back to crooked store owners or the poor for crack.
Most anyone with big enough nerve to rob you of your machine is certainly not going to turn it on so it can be tracked.
It will sit someplace for quite some time as it cools, it's battery will likely die and it will be bundled up and shipped with other stolen goods to a foreign country, the storage drive wiped and sold locally.
Even if you saw it on the Internet, you wouldn't want to spend the time and money to get it back, or really want it back.
Sorry you got robbed, but it really can happen to anyone and there is little that can be done to prevent it actually unless you hire bodyguards and travel in a bullet proof car and all that jazz.

What do you mean by " cannot check the notes box".
Do you mean the box is greyed out (unselectable) or it is active but clicking in it has no effect or you can click in it but it does not save the preference.
The details make a difference to understanding the cause of the problem.

Why cant Apple make a better keyboard/mouse

I went to Costco today and brought home the Microsoft Wireless Desktop 6000 and plugged it into my iMac. What a difference compared to the Apple bluetooth keyboard and mouse. It is so much nicer to type on, and the functionality of the MS mouse beats the Apple one button by far. I know about the mighty mouse, but it still feels cheap compared to the MS mouse.
Why is Apple so cheap about its keyboards? They make the best computer for the money, but ship it with a sub-standard keyboard and mouse. So now if I want to type comfortably and use a good mouse, I have to put up with RF instead of bluetooth, and the fact that they MS desktop set doesn't really match the iMac aesthetically. I dont want to have to trade off. I think Apple should provide form and function for $1299.

Those old "Battleship Potempkin" keyboards were awesome back in the day.
I bought out a school that was redoing their labs and had literally dozens of those in my garage along with some of the newer, smaller Keyboad IIs. I sold them off of eBay after I tested them and gave them a good cleaning. They went surprisingly fast.
There is a company that makes a modern keyboard with the same premium keyswitches of the AEKII, the Matias Tactile Pro Keyboard. I have read rave reviews of it, and for the price, it had better be good.

Ok, so the subject of your post is the question, "why can't Apple get car connectors for American cars?".
I think the answer is simply that Apple doesn't control GM, Ford or Chrysler. As a matter of fact these companies make a TON more money than Apple and have a lot more power than Apple about what goes into their products.
It isn't fair to say it's Apple's responsibility to make cars compatible with the iPod. It's Apple's responsibility to make the iPod compatible with cars. And Apple HAS done that. Thats why several car companies are including a way to control the iPod off of THEIR factories.
The more forward thinking car companies with the most recent designs have been doing this. Even if Cadillac came out with a CTS that works with your iPod tomorrow would you go out and buy that new CTS just so you could work your iPod off the steering wheel or whatever? OR, would you rather go get a great aftermarket Alpine or Kenwood? Both of which have decided it would be in their best to make devices which are compatible with the iPod.
Chevy recently came out with a new car design - the HHR - which does this. I seriously, seriously doubt Steve Jobs called Bob Lutz (the CEO of Chevy) and said "Hey Bob, you'd better start making cars that work with the iPod because it's our responsibility to force you to do that. And if you don't you're gonna be in big trouble mister".
What leverage does Apple have to force GM to do anything?
More than likely, the engineers at Chevy (being bright individuals) said, "hey, lets make this really cool hip car work with a really cool hip mp3 player so we can sell more of these cars". It's in Chevy's best interest to do that.
My turn to ask you a question.
How should Apple go about forcing GM, Chevy and Ford to build in iPod controls?

Again, I recommend that if you want CADILLAC to change their cars, ask CADILLAC - not Apple. Apple did it's part with the iPod (as evidenced at the above link).

If you mean from iTunes Match without having them on your hard drive, then that's because they aren't on your hard drive.
