Why cant i charge my ipad 1st generation on my macbook 2006

My daughter gave me her 1st generation ipad which is in mint condition but she couldnt send me the wall charger. She also sent me a macbook 2006 which works great except the battery needs replaced. I have an apple ipod classic and the usb cord but I can get the mac to recognize the ipad but display says not charging. Is it charging or do I need a specific ipad charger? I was able to connect it to my old computer but it would only charge to 40% because i dont have the right amount of power.

The MacBook more than likely does not supply enough power through the USB post to charge the iPad either. That's a 7 year old computer and that would be my guess. Apple includes that wall charger for a reason, and that's because they recommend charging that way.
You can purchase the power adapter just about anywhere that sells electronics .... Online at the Apple Store, Amazon, eBay, etc.

Charging an ipad 1st generation with a universal ipad charger

instead of purchasing the wall charger, can i save money and buy the universal car charger that states it can be used for all ipads? Will it work just as well as the wall charger?

Does anyone have any ideas why my iPad (1st generation) keep closing down and what I need to do to rectify it?

It could be that the battery charge indicator is showing 100 percent when you actually have almost no charge left. In case that is the problem, leave your iPad connected to its wall charger overnight, and see if that helps.
One other thing to try, is to reset (reboot) your iPad. Hold both the Home and Sleep buttons for several seconds until the Apple logo appears. Ignore the "Slide to power off" arrow. The iPad will restart after a couple of minutes. Resetting this way will not hurt anything, and sometimes solves mysterious problems.

My iPad 1st generation, has been charging for days and still shows dead battery... Tried to restore (which I was able to do in the past and was successful) and received an error saying something went wrong can not restore and went back to showing dead battery again. The battery is not dead... Any suggestions?

Why iPad 1st generation can't support iOS 6?

I just want to know why Apple didn't create iOS 6 for iPad 1st Generation, because when I find amazing apps at AppStore and I want to buy them, I can't because I need iOS 6 in my iPad, that's no funny!

As far as I know Apple haven't said. But the first gen iPad has a slower processor than subsequent models, and also less memory (256 meg, the iPad 2 has 512, and the 3 and 4 have 1 gig) - mine got noticeably slower with iOS 5, I doubt that it could cope with iOS 6

Thank you for replying, but I don't quite understand. I don't need mobile internet at all times. I am hoping to bring my iPad and only use it in the hotel lobby which has wifi. I am trying to determine if it can be used to recieve and send email while in Istanbul as well as get on Skype. Also - will how to do this be apparent to me when I turn it on - or do I need to set any preferences (etc). And will Verizon apply any charges? Are you able to view those photos in full screen mode or in the Edit mode? Scrolll thru those photos in full screen mode to make sure you can view them in the larger view. If you get a black window or a black window with an "!" in the center then that's why you can't sync. Post back with the results.

Hey guys I've got a problem. I have this iPad 1st Generation 32GB with Cellular Service that I got. Bought from someone who couldn't fix it for cheap and now I know the extent of why he sold it to me. The iPad is in a constant boot loop and no matter what it won't stop. So I decided I would just do a restore and try to fix the issue that way. Nope, I get the error...
"The iPad "iPad" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1602)."
The more I research the topic all I come across are sketchy youtube videos where you have to download certain software off of sites that seem suspect. I've used 3 different computers including my MacBook and nothing seems to work. If you guys have any clue on how to fix this issue let me know. Obviously this iPad is a bit old by todays technology standards and can only run up to iOS 5.1. If you can help me out that would be great, thank you!

The 1602 usually relates to a problem with your USB connection. Bad port on the computer, bad cable or something in the connection port on the iPad that prevents a good connection.

I have tried the mystical swiping upward on the screen with 4 fingers to get some special sound menu (which I never succeeded in getting). My headphone jack doesn't work all the time either so some times my kids can hear their games and sometimes they can't. I am super frustrated at this point. So any suggestions would be great. Am I missing something basic or do we just have a soundless iPad now?

IPad 1st Generation not syncing!

I have an Ipad 1st generation. It is as upgraded as possible for it's generation. Whenever connected to my computer I am unable to update existing apps. I have also not been able to add new apps. It will allow me to remove whatever I want.

I think that what you are saying about the problem being with the computer's OS (which is 10.9.2/maverick) may be the problem. Maybe that in conjunction with the latest iTunes upgrades are a problem with my older iPad.
But I don't get any kind of error message when I am trying to either sync, or update apps. The only messages I have gotten were when I attempted to update the netflix app directly on my iPad using the app store. And then the message said that the update I was attempting to install was not compatible with my iPad's OS. It then went on to inform me that I could instead re-install an earlier version of the netflix app that would work on my iPad. I installed it, and it works perfectly.--But when I connect the computer directly to my iPad so I could update some of the apps is when all the problems began. There were 22 updates available. When I tried to sync/apply changes(which included updates to 22 apps)iTunes carried on as though the sync was being done with all the changes requested. At the end of sync there was no sound to announce that the sync was done. When I looked back at the list of apps, all those that had said "will update" before I clicked apply, then said "update". Itunes had bounced out all changes I wanted, and was acting as if it had done all that I wanted. Nothing was done. Nothing at all. And during the sync process all messages indicated that the sync was going as it was supposed to.

Did you backup the iPad first? If you did - restore from the backup in order to restore the photos in the Saved Album on your iPad. If the photos were synced to the iPad, then sync them back again via iTunes.

If you did backup first, you will be restoring your most recent backup and you should be OK. But know that when you restore from a backup, you restore everything that is in that backup onto the iPad .... All documents, device settings, all data and so on. You cannot just select photos to restore to the iPad. It's all or nothing.
