Uninstall the Ask toolbar and it should work again. There is a compatibility issue with the Ask toolbar and Firefox that prevents new tabs from being opened.
There are a couple of places to check for the Ask toolbar:
    * Check the Windows Control panel for the Ask Toolbar - http://about.ask.com/apn/toolbar/docs/default/faq/en/ff/index.html#na4
    * Also check your list of extensions, you may be able to uninstall it from there - https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Uninstalling+add-ons

  • How do I open a raw image with the Photoshop raw plug in as opposed to the Bridge raw plug-in.

I read in a book on adobe raw that it is often useful to open an image at the same time with the adobe camera raw bridge plug in and the Photoshop camera raw plug in.
I can open a raw image in photoshop but I suspect I am not actually getting access to the camera raw plug in as none of the controls present in the bridge raw plug seem to be available from within Photoshop.
Of course I can access bridge and the bridge raw plug in by opening bridge from within Photoshop but this is not what I want to do.  I would like to open the image using the photoshop raw plug in not the bridge plug in.
    Clueless . . . and confused.

Thanks for the discussion.  It is interesting.  Let me clarify a bit regarding my issue.
I am using Mountain Lion OSX on a mac, of course, and CS6.  I have been using Aperture, a piece of Apple Software similar to Light Room to organize my images, opening them from Aperture in Photoshop to edit them, as I am both familiar with Photoshop and like the way it does things better than Aperture.  I recently started using CS6 and working with Adobe Camera raw 7, which I think is the version that comes with CS6.  All the info I can get from the web site, including a very nice tutorial from Adobe on camera raw, simply tells me to open it from Bridge.  When I do this, I get a nice set of sliders and other adjustments specifically associated with Adobe Camera Raw and the camera I am using.
I can open a file in Photoshop using the method SkillRooster suggests and, sure enough, it opens it with the camera raw plug-in (if I simply open the image by double clicking on it it opens in photoshop, no plug-in).  If I then go to bridge and open it from there, I don't get a second instance of Camera raw, it simply points me at the instance opened through Photoshop.
However, when I open a raw image in Photoshop from Aperture  (raw images open with no problem) I simply get the Photoshop interface, not the camera raw plug-in, the same as if I had double clicked on the image to open it from outside of Aperture.  I am trying to figure out if there is some way to open an image from Aperture in Photoshop so that it opens in the camera raw plug-in.  One possibility I could imagene is to open it in Photoshop and from there open it in the plug-in.  The only thing I see regarding this in Photoshop is a menu item that lets me close the image and open Bridge, which doesn't help me with my Aperture issue.  I could decide to switch to bridge, but with the thousands of images I now have in Aperture, this would be quite a bit of work.  I may just have to work with both going forward.
The root of my original question comes from something I recently read in a book by Bruce Fraser on Camera Raw which is excellent, but it focues on CS 5.5 as he died before being able to update it.  In that book he describes a trick he uses where he opens the raw image in a plug-in in Bridge and then opens it a second time using a plug-in in Photoshop.  This give him a chance to compare adjustments between the two open images.  As I mentioned above, when I try to do this by starting with Photoshop and then going to Bridge, it points me at the same instance.  I can't open it in Bridge and then Photoshop since once it is open in Bridge, it won't let me into Photoshop without closing the image in Bridge.  I was thinking there might be something in Fraser's method that would help me with my Aperture issue, but can't reproduce what he describes.
Perhaps this was possible in CS5.5 but no longer  in CS6.
Another work around I can imagine is to do all my raw editing from Bridge and then save the file as a DNG file in Aperture.  I suspect that after that, I am stuck with doing any more raw editing using the Aperture camera raw funcions, which are a bit lacking compared with Adobe Camera Raw.
Hope I am being clear here about my dilemma.  Any help would be welcomed.

  • Opening multiple RAW files in Adobe Camera RAW

Former CS6 user. Now trying CC but can't find a way to select an open only the RAW files in ACR, in a folder that has both RAW and jpeg files. There are options for select certain types of files but RAW is not an option like it was in CS6. I need to be able to quickly open many RAW files in ACR without having to ctrl-click each RAW file to avoid opening the jpeg files.

I have more than 100 files in a folder. Half are RAW and the other half are the matching jpeg files. It is too cumbersome to use the ctrl key and select each of the 100 RAW files. You can select certain kinds of files in a dropdown box titles ALL FORMATS but unfortunately RAW files are not one of the options. In PS6, RAW files was one of the choices. I could screen for RAW files and then see only RAW files in my folder. I could then select one file, hold the shift button down and select any number of RAW files at once. I do thousands of pictures and need fast options. If all else fails I could select and open the RAW files do Adobe Camera RAW through Adobe Bridge but that adds another step.
So if anyone can figure out a faster way to open many RAW files at once in ACR, I would appreciate the help.

  • How do you crop outside the image in Adobe Camera Raw?

I would like to create a crop of a portion of an image in Adobe Camera Raw AND include some area outside that image. Is there a way to do this.

You can't do that in ACR, but you can if you open it in Photoshop and use the crop tool there.

Alternatively, install & use RawTherapee instead to develop your raw files instead (free and open source).

  • How to open a jpg file with Adobe Camera Raw

I know it is possible to open a jpg file with Adobe Camera Raw using Bridge but is it possible to do this using PSE7?  Thanks.

Yes. In the editor, File>Open As, and choose camera raw as the format. John Ellis also has a script for doing this directly from the organizer, but I don't have the link right at the moment. Hopefully he'll be along with it sooner or later.

  • Problem with Adobe Camera Raw

Hi all, I hope someone can shed some light on this; I've been going round in circles with all sorts trying to get Adobe Camera Raw to function on someone's laptop.
It will not recognise that he wants to open a Raw file (.cr2) into photoshop and doesn't recognise the file type.
    The setup is as follows:
    Win7 Professional
    Photoshop CS3
    Digital Photo Professional 3.5.2.0
Canon Eos 5D MkII (firmware 1.0.7)
When I go to Help > About Plugin, there are two "Camera Raw" occurences; one has version 4.6.0.30. The 2nd says "operation could not be completed. class already exists".
I've tried numerous times to update Photoshop, but every time there is an error saying there's no internet connection. I've checked and checked again and I'm 100% certain that there is no firewall software that might be blocking it somehow. The laptop is otherwise on the internet fine.
It's becoming quite a problem as we don't have the exposure and other raw format controls to adjust. I've already uninstalled and reinstalled both the Canon camera software and Photoshop.
Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Don't know why you do not have a internet connection. My guess is the you are running off a router with a firewall. Some websites do not like double firewalls. Try turning off Windows 7 firewall and re-download.
The free DNG converter on the Adobe download site should help you with opening the RAW file. I am thinking the camera is newer then what PS CS3 RAW supports.

  • No option to open JPEGs with Adobe Camera Raw

I am not able to open jpg files into Adobe Camera Raw in Bridge or anywhere else for that matter. There is simply no option available in File to open in ACR (there's nothing that's even greyed out). Ctrl+R does nothing also. I just installed CS3 so I thought maybe it was an ACR 4.1 issue and downloaded ACR 4.2 to no avail. It will automatically open my CR2 images into ACR from Bridge.
    Any ideas?

    > I think I must be really dense because I don't see any bridge menu > camera raw preferences.
    Lindsay,
You are not dense at all. That has been reported before. There are two possibilities:
    1. You have Camera Raw installed in the wrong place or improperly (like not having removed the old ACR version); or
2.You have a bad install of Bridge (and possibly Photoshop). Before going any farther, what platform are you on, Macintosh or Windows?
I suspect Windows, since you mention "Ctrl-R". If that's the case, I'll let a Windozer help you.
If you're on a Mac, I can help guide you.

  • I can't open three raw files from Adobe Camera Raw to Nik Efex

Something strange is going on that never happened before.  I used to be on CS6 but now am on CC with the latest Adobe Camera Raw.  I used to be able to select three photos in camera raw and then click Tools and then I'd see my Nik Efex plugins and choose which one I wanted.  But all I see now is Photoshop under Tools at the bottom as an available option to open the files.
How do I open three files into Nik Efex HDR from Camera Raw?  Is there something wrong here or am I just not doing things correctly.  It seems I was doing this before and now I can't.

Oh good lord.  I can't believe I spent so much time on this and it's right there under Google.  Thank you so much!  Happy Thanksgiving!

  • Trouble with Adobe Camera Raw

I have started to use ACR (Adobe Camera Raw) for making changes to my photos before opening them up properly in Photoshop, and I have 2 quick questions:
    1. The Photoshop guide I'm reading says that in the White Balance section of the 'Basic' tab (on the right of the big preview image), that I should be able to choose from pre-set white balance settings such as Cloudy, Sunny Day, Flash, Fluorescent etc.
However the only options that are available for me are 'Auto, As Shot and Custom'. Am I doing something wrong?
    2. In the main preview box, some of my photos load up with a funny blue outline around the image. Is there a reason for this?
    Thanks for your help!
    Alex

    1) Those options are only available when working with raw files. When working with JPEG's you get only As Shot, Auto and Custom, it's a trade-off for lower filesize.
    2) that blue color indicates that you have clipping in those areas. You can turn it on/off by clicking on the icons with a triangle in them from the top of the histogram

  • Has anyone encountered this error message with Adobe Camera Raw 6.3 Plug-in?

Ever since I installed the Adobe Camera Raw 6.3 Plug-in for Elements 8 I get the following error message when I launch Editor:
"The Application or DLL C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\Elements 8 \File Formats\Win 64\Camera Raw. 8 bi is not a valid Windows Image. Please check this against your installation diskette"
(As I downloaded the plug-in I don't have the option of checking against the installation diskette as the error message suggests.)
If I click OK on the error message the launch process re-commences and Editor eventually opens and operates effectively.
Does anyone have a suggestion about how I might remove this error message? Alternatively, do I run a risk by continuing to simply ignore the error message?
    Thanks
    Kinyo Jim

Delete the camera raw 8bi file from the File Formats folder.
Download ACR 6.2 and extract the files.
Drag the camera raw 8bi file from the download extract folder into the File formats folder.
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\Elements 8\File Formats\
If you are using a 64-bit edition of Windows, then move the plug-in file from the unzipped download folder by navigating to:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\Elements 8\File Formats\

  • HT6114 mac os 10.9.2 update conflict with adobe camera raw ?

All of a sudden Adobe camera raw won't convert either raw Canon or Leica files.  Keep getting the error code to re-install CS6, but that does not solve it.

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5955
Look for the update name and Google the update name together with support.apple.com/DL to get the one referring to your camera, and make sure the system requirements list 10.9 or later.   If they only say 10.6.8 or earlier, they will not necessarily work, since Apple got rid of Rosetta.
If you are stuck on 10.6.8 or earlier based RAW, it may pay to do one of the following:
    1. Install Parallels with 10.6.8 Server. https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-6841
    2. Install Windows with the supported RAW using a virtualization software. https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2741
    3. Install your prior operating system onto a USB Flash drive, and boot off that.  Given 10.9's security issues prior to 10.9.2,
and your Mac's minimum operating system was 10.8.2, you may need to contact Apple Support to get the Mac App Store give you your system specific 10.8.2 download, so you can apply 10.8.5 combo and its security update if it was working on your Mac with 10.8:
    10.8.5 combo
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1737- security update for 10.8.5.
    4. Switch to a compatible camera with 10.9 or later.
Updating to 10.9, you should be prepared for the following:

  • Does PSE 10 support and is it compatible with Adobe Camera Raw Process 2012?

I recently upgraded to Photoshop CS6 but am still using Photoshop Elements 8 Organizer to manage my collection.  It appears that the new Process 2012 that is available with the Camera Raw processor is not supported by PSE 8 and in fact PSE 8 changes (as best it can) the adjustments back to Process 2010 if I add a caption to a photo in the Organizer.  This also happens if I write properties and tags to to the image file.  Does PSE 10 support Process 2012?

Bill Junk -- your entire set of comments seems to be way off topic, but I'll address them anyway. If you want to continue this discussion about LR, you should really start a new thread (and probably in the LR forum)
Has Lightroom 4 made any fundamental changes in the way they let you organize, tag, and manage files in your collection?
There are minor changes to the Library Module in LR4, but nothing major.
My complaint about LR 3 is that it seems to flatten my image tagging structure when I import catalog data from PSE.
This would happen because you are doing it wrong. If you upgrade the PSE catalog to a LR catalog, your tag structure/hierarchy remains intact.
I have a very nice and organized file structure for maintaining my collection and don't like relying on a database to keep track of everything.
But the tags in PSE are in a database. Your folder hierarchy is really a database in your operating system.
If the Lightroom DB every goes belly up I suspect that years of adding entries would be lost.
There are so many misconceptions about LR. I have no idea how this gets started, but this isn't true. There are simple ways to prevent this from happening.
Suppose your Windows (or Mac) folders (which are a really a database in your operating system) get corrupted. Suppose your hard disk fails. Then what would you do?
The way I'm currently organized and having key information stored in the image files I can usually find what I want quickly using something as simple as Windows Explorer.
    Lightroom has this capability too.

  • Do you have any neartime plans to implement Fuji Xe-1 RAF format of RAW files into Adobe camera RAW?

having recently purchased the amazing fuji x-e1 i was quite disapointed to find a lack of RAW support for the fuji's RAF files.
are there any plans to add this soon or to the next update of adobe camera raw?

This is a user-to-user forum.  Although there are some Adobe employees who monitor this forum occasionally, you are not addressing Adobe when you ask a question.  Most of the people who comment here are simply users like yourself.  However, you should know that updates are made available about every three months.  And, usually, new cameras will be supported in the next version of Lightroom and Camera Raw, unless the camera is released too close to an Adobe update.  If that happens, then you can usually expect support for the camera to be in the next update.  None of us know when that will happen, and anyone who works for Adobe is not at liberty to divulge that information.  Your camera will probably be supported in the near future, but you will simply have to wait and see when that will take place.  I know, not a real satisfactory answer.  But that's the way it is.
