Why cant I read received emails on my ipad?

Mail is being received inwards and shows in the mail box side bar. The main part of the screen shows the From box with name and the To box is populated - but there is no text in the main message box. What am I doing wrong?
Also I cannot send emails out from my iPad is it some thing to do with SMTP details?

    It's a risk if you're using POP3 mail. You can archive mailboxes to another location for safe keeping.
    Or, just try adding new versions of the accounts without deleting the old ones (you can have duplicates, name them different so that you can tell them apart). If the new ones work, then you can just drag the mail folders from the old to the new and then delete the old.

    Try an alternative Internet connection.
    If your email is provided by your Internet provider, try connecting from the home network.
    If your iOS device has an active cellular data plan, try to disable Wi-Fi:  Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and turn off Wi-Fi.
    If not, try a different Wi-Fi network.
    Log in to your email provider's website to ensure that the account is active and the password is correct.
    Delete the account from Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars and then add the email account again on the iOS device.

    In which case, clearly communicating the intent would have been a better solution.  The steps do apply.  A more appropriate response would have been "tried that, no change".
    Regardless of whether they fixed the problem or not, they do apply.
    If English is not your native language, I would strongly encourage you to post in your native language going forward.
    If basic troubleshooting has not resolved the issue, the next step is to take the device to Apple for evaluation.

    Hi Have you got WiFi or just a mobile signal If you can get a good mobile signal  but no wifi you need a WiFi dongle Not the plug in type the stand alone one you can run upto 5 devices at once You can get one on contact  or PAY& GO Ask someone to get one for you from shop go for the best  Mobile signal were you need to use it If you are in the UK EE on 4G are best.     I sign in on appleid.apple.com and select manage apple id and sign in.  Everything is correct.  That address has been verified.
    That is o.k., then.
    However, on the left side of the screen the only option is verify your email address, nothing about security
    I don't understand, what on the left side of the screen?  If you tried to verify a second email address, you should be either seeing "verified" or "verification email sent". The second email address may already have even verified for a different Apple ID.

    If it's formatted NTFS, Macs can only read it. It needs to be formatted Mac OS Extended or FAT32 (MS-DOS) for a Mac to be able to write to it.

When I try to fetch emails a pop up box tells me to says verify your incoming email setting in settings.  I have, it is correct as I am receiving emails on my iPhone with the same incoming address.  I have tried deleting it and putting it in again but that does work. The wifi is working fine when using the Internet. Has anyone any ideas what is happening and how I can rectify the problem?

    Do you have one, two or more entries in the left colum of Mail.app for your mail server(s)?  That is, do you have your Mail.app set up with either a btinternet entry, with a btyahoo entry, or both?  Or more?
    I'm guessing that you might have one account (btyahoo?) listed for incoming (IMAP server) mail, and with the outbound (SMTP server) mail is configured and named btinternet.
    Based on what little I see posted, it looks like BT uses both btinternet and btyahoo, but I'm not exactly clear on how they have their stuff set up, and their web set gets helpful and tries to help configure my mail — I don't immediately see a single web page with the mail server set-up details.  The BT email client set-up starts here.
