Why cant i right click my bookmarks on my mac?

Hi
I have firefox 9.0.1 on my mac osx 10.6. I am unable to right click on my bookmarks to be able to delete and rename etc...
How can i fix this?
Regards
Pascal

On a Mac the menu bar is maintained by the Mac OS and not by Firefox.
So that is the only place where the right-click context menu isn't working.
It should work in all other places like the Bookmarks toolbar and Bookmarks sidebar (View > Sidebar) and the Library.

Uninstall the Ask toolbar and it should work again. There is a compatibility issue with the Ask toolbar and Firefox that prevents new tabs from being opened.
There are a couple of places to check for the Ask toolbar:
* Check the Windows Control panel for the Ask Toolbar - http://about.ask.com/apn/toolbar/docs/default/faq/en/ff/index.html#na4
* Also check your list of extensions, you may be able to uninstall it from there - https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Uninstalling+add-ons

The Ask Toolbar is causing that in the Firefox 3.6.13+ versions. Uninstall that extension.

Why does the Right-click -> "t" delete a bookmark on the bookmark toolbar, when Right-click -> "t" opens a new tab elsewhere in Firefox. The bookmark toolbar use Right-click -> "w" to open in a new tab. Please change this to "t" to... I keep deleting all my bookmark because you don't make the commands consistent!

If you have accidentally removed bookmarks then use "Organize > Undo" in the bookmarks manager (Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks) to get them back.
The Organize button is the first of the three buttons on the toolbar in the Library (Bookmarks Manager).
That only works if you haven't closed Firefox.

• Why can't i right click a bookmark inside a folder on my favourites bar?

I can right click a bookmark on my favorites bar to open it in another tab and stuff, but i cant right click the bookmark when it's inside a folder?

Only because Apple didn't make that possible - although you can probably Command click it to open in a new tab.

• Right click on bookmarks - options removed in 4. Beta?

Hi,
I'm sure in 3.n I right clicked on a bookmark to choose whether to open it in a new window or a new tab, or to flick through a number of bookmarks to open two or three at once. In 4.Beta when I right click a bookmark I don't get an option to open it in another window or new tab. I don't get an option to open it at all.
Was this removed deliberately? & if so why? Seems a wierd thing to take out.

Those options plus the usual others still show up when I right-click.

• Cannot Right Click on Bookmarks (in Bookmarks Toolbar) if they are "Inside a folder" or under "Show more bookmarks" in OS X

I tried to right click on bookmarks in "Bookmarks Toolbar" which are "Inside a folder" or under "Show more bookmarks" to delete or rename them but nothing happened! like i didn't right click at all
but if a bookmark in Bookmarks Toolbar is not in a folder and is not under show more bookmarks its ok and i can right click o manage it
Now to delete a bookmark inside a folder i have to drag it outside and then right click and delete it or use bookmarks library, which is really annoying, shouldn't we be able to right click on bookmarks inside folders and delete them there?
Is there any shortcut key for example holding command and clicking to rename or delete a bookmark until this bug is fixed?

@jscher2000
Yea that works, i'm already doing that, but its really annoying if you want to rename or delete a bookmark you have to open bookmarks library and then find the bookmark there, then delete or rename it, i find the dragging way a little faster
I don't think this is going to be fixed soon, so im looking for a way to rename and delete bookmarks in Bookmarks Toolbar
I think many have this problem too i have also created a topic here:

• Why, when I right click on a file am I only given the CS6 option to open in?

Why, when I right click on a file am I only given the CS6 option to open in? Before installing the CS6 "cloud" programs I would be given an option to open in any software or version that would be an appropriate program to open the file. If I want to open a jpg in Photoshop CS5 so I can use the plugins that I have not yet installed in CS6 I can only open it by opening Photoshop CS5 and open it through the Photoshop dropdown.
I am working in Windows 7 professional. I am subscribed to the CS6 "cloud" annual subscription.

If I have to go to the trouble to open in bridge I might as well open Photoshop CS5, browse to the file and open it. My point is, before CS6 I could simply right click on a file in its folder and have the option to open it in any program that it could be opened in. Previously it would give me the options for past versions. Now a PSD only gives me the option of Photoshop CS6 even if it was created in CS5. This is also happening with InDesign files and Illustrator files. Quite an inconvienence, especially in the transition period.

• Why doesn't right-click work in Bookmarks menu anymore? Why do I have to open some Bookmark manager to edit/delete Bookmarks?!

Until this 29 update, I was able to simply right-click in the Bookmarks menu on any Bookmark and do whatever I wanted like open it's properties to edit it or simply delete it straight from that menu. Now, suddenly, that right-click menu is all blanked out. It's only usable when you go to the Bookmark manager. Why was it necessary to forbid people from deleting and editing Bookmarks from the Bookmark menu?! Why do I have to now go through some extra steps of opening the Bookmark manager then finding the Bookmark to edit or delete it when I could have done all that straight from the menu?!

hello, can you try to replicate this behaviour when you launch firefox in safe mode once?

• Why can't I use Right-Click in Bookmarks (to delete) or on Tabs (to bookmark) anymore?

Much of the right-click mouse support seems to have been removed from Firefox - is there a reason for this?
Examples are in the Subject line.

You can change the order of the boxes on the about:newtab page and drag an item to a different tile to pin it to that position or you can remove a website by clicking the close X to block that URL.
You can drag a bookmark or history item and drop them in a tile on the about:newtab page to pin them and have your own favorites sites showing.
Changes made manually on the about:newtab page are stored in prefs that you can find on the about:config page.
*browser.newtabpage.pinned stores websites that you have pinned to a tile.
*browser.newtabpage.blocked stores websites that you have removed by clicking the X button in a tile.
So you can reset those prefs via the right-click context menu to reset changes made to the about:newtab page.

• Why are the keyboard shortcuts for new window and new tab (N) and (W) instead of (W) and (T) when I right-click on bookmarks in my toolbar?

If I right click on a link in a page, the context menu allows me to open a new tab if I hit t on my keyboard and a new window if I hit w. In the bookmarks menu, these shortcuts change to w and n respectively. Hitting t results in deletion of the bookmark. Can this be changed so it is consistent with the in-page context menu?

You can middle-click a link to open the link in a new tab.
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

• What happened to right-click on Bookmarks?

If I open Bookmarks and right-click on a website, why are "Open bookmark in a new Tab" and "Open Bookmark in a new window" greyed out? In previous versions, I could just open a bookmarked item in a new tab, but Firefox 4 won't allow me to do this.

Firefox doesn't have such context menu entries for "Open Bookmark ...". So it looks that there has been a problem with the extension that added them and that started working again.

• Can't middle or right click on bookmarks to open in new tab

I can no longer middle click a bookmark from the bookmarks menu to open in a new tab. No matter whether I left, middle or right click, it is treated as a left click and opens in my currently open tab.
PS I'm doing this using Firefox 23 but the same applies to Firefox 26 (obtained from Nightly Builds).

'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
* Open the Help menu and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.
''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''
'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article for that.
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''
Please report back soon.
