Why cant i update my phone to IOS 8

i have an iphone 4s running on ios 7.1.2 ishows my software is up to date i want to update to IOS 8

Settings>General>About
What do you see for Model?
If the phone says its software is up to date it is probably an iPhone 4 and not a 4S.

As stated above, I cant update my phone to iOS 5.1! And which means I cant even reach iOS 6
I've tried tonnes of times but it always states ERROR.
I tried both from my laptop and phone alone, BOTH FAILED.
I seriously want to update my phone alot. Watching everyone enjoying with their new stuff and i'm stuck with 'ol iOS 5.0
Could anyone please tell me how?

take my advice: there r many issues with ios 6! wait 4 ios 6.1
however if u want 2 download it now, downloadthe firmware from ur browser (ggl chrome or mozilla,) then ggo 2 itunes, connect ur iphone & hold shift & press update & select the firmware hope that helps gd luck

I lost all my data from my iPad when I upgraded to iOS4. Luckily I got most of it back with a restore to backup. I recently got an iPhone 4S. When I went to set it up I realized that I hadn't upgraded the iPad to iOS5. When I attempted the upgrade it said I couldn't do a backup - something about an error during the back up. I had to reset to factory settings in order to upgrade and I again lost all my data. Unfortunately the last time the iPad actually completed a back up was May of 2011. I'm attempting to restore to the May settings and see if I can recover any data or if I'm SOL. Any idea why the recent upgrades are mucking up machines? The early upgrades went smoothly. Only the last 2 have been problematic.

Since i updated my phone to iOS 5, I experienced my phone crashes adn it drains my battery. I don't know the reason why, whether the hardware (esp. memory) can't handle the more advance multi-tasking feature of iOS 5.

It even happens while doing nothing, and just charging it. Every few minutes I get the spinning wheel and the "recharge chimes" sound. I found a lot crash logs, most of them are for "Low Memory" or "SpringBoard" crashed due to a segmentation fault, also known as "BAD_ACCESS_EXCEPTION (SIGSEGV)"

There is some kind of error. The new version of iTunes is 11.1, which although is not available via updates, it can be downloaded from the Apple website here:

After updating iTunes to the newest version you should be able to update your iOS

I assume you already plugged it into iTunes and tried to restore it? When it is in Recovery mode, the only thing you can do is restore it. You want to make sure that you back the iPad up on a regular basis.

How, EXACTLY, did you get it "unlocked"? ONLY the carrier it's locked to can authorize unlocking it. Anything else is a hack.

I'm assuming you followed a forum like Gizmodo to load the latest version of iOS 7 Beta on your device
Alot of those forums forget to mention, iTunes 11.0.5 will allow you to update to the iOS 7 Beta but your device will no longer work unless you have the developer version of iTunes as well....
I'd suggest you to research how to downgrade back to 6.1.3/4 and wait a few days for the iOS to be released,

thanks Razmee...I wasnt aware of this. For some reason I thought it was all backed up in itunes and sitting somewhere in the cloud, not on a hard drive. Should spend more time looking into this things....how have people time for this? I mean, I dont even have time to go to the shops and pick up my 4S upgrade!!

Unfortunately Pakistan is one of those countries where media isn't available from iTunes - when that might change we won't know (we are fellow users on here) until if/when Apple announce something.
Are there other music purchase download sites available there ? Or you can copy your CDs via your computer's iTunes and sync them to your phone
