Why client specific forms?

Hi Abappers,
I m new to sap scripting ? so please excuse me if my question is rudimentary. I want to know why a SAP script layout has to be client specific, whats the advantage of it being client specific ? morever why is'nt a smartform client specific
and what are the advantages.

Well come my dear friend, As a abaper u have to know this.
If u create/predefined a script layout that layout is client specific because layouts are stored in one table that table contains first field as mandt . that why it is client specific. sap prient programs are not client specific. becuse print programs are stored in one table that table is client independent.
Smartforms are client independent because when u activate the smartform it will generate the function module. that function module is stored it in table that table is client independent.

What you can do is to use TDMS (Test Data Migration Server), it´s a separate product and it enable you to setup test/training systems with a reduced amount of production data.
This system makes use of technologies to determine, whether a table is client depend and client independent.
Your problem is, that the client specific data NEEDS the cross client data, it relies on the customizing, that is cross client.
If your pupose is to e. g. extract some kind of data because parts of your company was sold or if you bought a new company, then you should contact the SLO group (http://service.sap.com/slo) that does those kinds of "separations" too.
From a technical level, it´s certainly possible but wihtout knowing your initial intent why you want to do that, one can give just advises, what we "think" what the reason might be.

Adding system and client specific TMS approval steps

Hello,
In defining QA approval steps, how to define a step which is not system and client wide?
When adding a new step, it is automaticaly defined with * in the client and system fields, and when changing the steps, these fields are not editable. However, there are several approval steps for which a specific system and client are entered, but this was done by a consultant, who was here some years ago.
Does anyone know how to do this?

Did you ever find a solution to this issue. I too have multiple QA systems in our landscape (4 system landscape), and yet I can not defined system/client specific approval procedures in STMS.
The system and client options don't even appear when I go into change mode, yet table TMSQASTEPS has the options available. Direct table update works fine, but it would be nice to know the "SAP standard" way of doing this.

4. Visit http://my-site.com/scripts/form_check.php in a web browser and make sure you see all green checkmarks. If some items do not display green checkmarks that means that the hosting server is not configured correctly to allow the Form widgets to send email messages to the address you've specified.
Contact your web-hosting provider about the server configuration problem. Describe the items that are not marked as green in the form check page, so that they can help you set up the servers to use the correct settings.

Microsoft Outlook is Wrong Email Client for Form

Forms I have developed using the Forms button in Acrobat 9 Pro that have an email button properly launch the default mail client in Windows,even if Microsoft Outlook is installed but is not the default mail client. Forms I have developed in LiveCycle, however, try to send the form with Microsoft Outlook if it is installed, even if another mail client such as Outlook Express or Windows Live Mail is the default client. Where the user has not configured Outlook as a mail client, the user cannot send the form. Is there a way to force LiveCycle to use the default email client instead of Outlook? Or am I missing a configuration someplace in setting up the form?

Problem in transporting Variants - "You cant transport client-specific obj"

I am facing a problem while trying to transport variant from DEV to QAS.
When I tried to transport one of the variants (of a program) from DEV to QAS (quality system), it gave me an error that: "You cannot transport client-specific objects".

The program is Not a local object. I am trying to assign the variant to a transport via. SE38->variant->display->utilities->transport request-> request number.
Is there a way to modify this variant from client specific to "non-client-specific".
Also, please let me know hoe do we copy this variant into a new variant which is not client specific (i.e. a global variant).

We are extremely sorry that you have had a bad experience with Adobe .
As far as your issue is concerned ,Acrobat generally prompts for internet connection as it is required to activate the product before you could use it comfortably .Once the product is activated or licensed you would be able to use the software offline .
This could be the possible reason you are experiencing this .Please check if you have done so and still facing this .And if you have not ,you need to license/activate your product by typing in your credentials ,i.e Adobe ID and password .

What I infer from your statements now, significantly different from your OP, is that you do not have any logging mechanism and now want to introduce logging with minimum effort.
If that is the case you can add the logging code in your Menu(s), before the CALL_FORM/NEW_FORM. Fewer object(s) to modify, but roughly the same lines of code get added.

Calling Web Form from Client-Server Form

Hi. I have an existing Client-Server Form (6i) still in production that needs to call a Web Form and pass it a parameter. Obviously I can't use Call Form or New Form from the client-server version, but can I somehow issue a command line (including a parameter) that opens the Web Form? Any suggestions for accomplishing this?
I can create a command line like this, but have no idea how to pass a parameter to my Web Form. The Web Form named participants which has a Parameter defined named 'p_participant'.

Simply add to your URL as follows:
http://9.35.32.206:7777/forms/frmservlet?form=participants&otherparams=p_participant=<SOME VALUE>I assume you plan to use HOST to make this call. I would recommend something like this:
HOST ('cmd /c start iexplore.exe "http://9.35.32.206:7777/forms/frmservlet?form=participants&otherparams=p_participant=<SOME VALUE>"');

Submitting a specific form

Is it possible to submit a specific form form a commandbutton?.
I have a webpage with a menu and content on it.
I want to submit the form which i defined on the content component when i click on a menu button.
On a click on the button of the menu i want to submit "dossierForm" which is outside of the menu form.

That certainly submits a form, but remember that this is JSF; if you do manual meddling you can make the front-end state and the back-end state go out of sync and "weird" things will start to happen. Just open up the HTML view; you'll see that JSF generates large amounts of javascript tied to each button and link in the page. When you manually submit a form, the javascript behind the submit button is not invoked.
You should be doing it the JSF way; if there is no JSF way to be found (examining the properties of h:commandButton and h:commandLink is enough to draw conclusions) then you should be adapting the webapp design so it again conforms to how JSF works.

Distributing client/server forms app

I am distributing a client/server forms/reports app that calls stored database procedures.
Does anyone have information on best-practice for version-control/distribution of upgrades etc? What is a good model to follow? At the moment I am using CVS but it is getting very complicated knowing which client has which version of a form/report/procedure

How have you handled when installing in different versions of Windows, i.e. if you prepare the installation on Windows 2000 does it work for installing on Windows XP or the other way around?
Besides the technical issue, there is the licensing issue, have you used this method for customers that just buy the DB, without forms?
Could any of the Oracle folks throw some light on the subject?

Form 11g - Is is possible to block specific forms access when user directly type form name in url ?

We have XXF000.fmb, XXF001.fmb , XXF002.fmb , XXF003.fmb in 6i.
For migration to 11g , we recompile these forms and move fmx to 11g form server under form_path.
In 6i , we login for validation & responsibilities control in XXF000, So we can use account info to verify if user have priviledge to access XXF001, XXF002 and XXF003.
But in 11g , we can access these forms vial url request , such as : http://<host>:<port>/forms/frmservlet?form=XXF000 ; http://<host>:<port>/forms/frmservlet?form=XXF001 ... etc
These may cause some unexpected access and operations in functions.
Is is possible to block specific forms access when user directly type form name in url ?

You need to alter your formsweb.cfg file, either directly or through the Fusion web interface. You need to set the following parameters:
#this sets the default form for your application
form=yourmenuform.fmx
#this stops these parameters being entered in the URL, seperate different parameters with commas
restrictedURLparams=form,pageTitle,HTMLbodyAttrs,HTMLbeforeForm,HTMLafterForm,log
