Why comopressor and not DVD Dtudio Pro?

I am curious, DVD Studio pro seems to do a good job on compressing a video file with good end results, why use compressor since many users are complaining of not as good quality after compression?
I did a test with the same video file with the same compression settings in both, and I got a better image quality with DVD Studio Pro 4.0. I made the comparison by playing the two compressed video files side by side, also, the MPEG file size was smaller with the DVD Studio Pro.
Is it mostly because of the batch processing by using Compressor?
Any input on this?

Provided you export directly from Final Cut Pro (File > Export > Using Compressor) or Export a QuickTime Movie with DVD Studio Pro Markers embedded, Compressor places an I-frame on every cut made in an FCP Timeline. It also places an I-frame at the start and end of every (video) transition applied.
(In selecting DVD Studio Pro Markers at the time of export, the QT file contains Chapter makers, [manually placed] Compression Markers and Cut markers. This if regardless of whether the QT movie is self-contained or not.)
DVD Studio Pro, on the other hand, does not recognize the Cut markers in a (properly exported) QuickTime Movie from FCP. It only recognizes Chapter and Compression Markers that you place manually.
In case you're not aware, I-frames are the only frames in a GOP that contain complete images. The other frame types B (Between) and P (Predicted) refer to picture data from other frames to complete the image.
I-frames at the right place make a world of difference and you always want a 'scene change' to start on an I-frame. (There is tons more to say about the subject, but I just don't have the time, sorry.)
To see GOP's in action...
Import your Compressor-encoded file into DVDSP and drop it into a Track.
With the Track active, press Option-Right Arrow to jump from I-frame to I-frame. (Option-Left Arrow to jump to previous I-frame)
If you exported DVD Studio Pro markers, you should jump in increments of 15 frames, except when there is a cut.
If you do the above with your QT movie (encoding in DVDSP), you'll only jump by 15 frame increments.
In your test, did you export your QT movie with DVD Studio Pro Markers? Or only Chapter Markers? Perhaps No Markers? Or did you compress a file without cuts?

First few video frames 'stuttering' and then DVD Studio Pro hangs

Hi, I wonder if anyone can assist me with this problem...
I've been using Final Cut Studio for some time, with no issues with DVD Studio Pro. Now, whenever I import video assets into DVD Studio Pro, and then run simulate to see how the video will look, the first few frames of the video appear to 'stutter' and then jam on the screen; the audio keeps running fine.
Eventually DVD Studio Pro hangs-up and I have to use Force Quit to get out. If I don't simulate but just go-ahead with burning a DVD, the program still hangs.
When I view the same video in Quicktime, it's fine so it does not appear to be the video file...
Has something gone wrong with DVD Studio Pro, with it's preferences or something else? Any advice on what I should do? I can no longer burn DVDs because of this!

That's the problem, I can't get to the stage of actually building a DVD. I've attached assets, go to burn, and then the program hangs. If I view the video in simulate, it see that the few few frames are not advancing, just sort of hanging there, repeating pver and over, then it hangs. Viewing the video in QT it seems fine.
Help! Anyone seen this problem? What should I do, I have to burn a DVD for Monday! Thanks.

Why 512mb and not 1

Why will my computer only recognize the Zen Nano Plus 52mb mp3 player and not the gig model? Have tried everything. Even updating the firmware on the gig, but it never becomes recognized properly. Anyone?

I just got the Zen Nano Plus gig for Christmas. i am having the exact same problem. I also downloaded the new drivers, but did no good. It will recognize my unit as a nano when i plugg it in, but when i go to the control panel under hardware, it says it in "UnSupported" I have tried everything. Did the sane as cadman. I removed all software and started all over again. There has to be an answer. i am somewhat PC savy, but this one has me!
I forgot to mention, when i load the software i get this message that "Moti've Monitor Service has encountered a problem and needs to close" and then i get the MS message that it closed and if i want to send MS the message. Not sure if that means anything.

Please bare with me, i know a lot has been written about what VPLS is, I have read the postings, but maybe someone can in simple terms answer my qn for me;
Why should one go for VPLS and not L3 VPNs or L3 VPNs and not VPLS, i need arguments from both the enterprise point and the ISP point

+No need to involve the ISP for routing issues
+Support non-IP protocols - IPX, AppleTalk etc..
-Difficult to troubleshoot
-Possible to make a L2-loop
-Customers could overflow mac-tables.
L3-VPN:
+ISP control the routing process - or the customer could control the CE-PE, and control it's own routing.
+Loops are avoided with routing-protocols
-Non-IP protocols have to be encapsulated to work
Personally I liked the VPLS best before, but after choosing an ISP supporting PE-CE-protocols, not using static's and has a good support centre, I always recommend L3VPN's.
Also within our own MPLS-network we always use L3. (with no 7600's VPLS is not supported...) EoMPLS is not used permanently used within out MPLS, but could be used for moving a customer from one datacenter to another, or other special timelimited purpose...

Why does Apple not offer Logic Pro X as an extra when you buy a 13" MacBook Pro online? Is Logic not suited for the 13"?

Hi Guys,
Is there a reason that Apple does not offer Logic Pro X as an extra when buying the MacBook Pro 13" online?
I understand that the screen is probably a bit small, but I need the portability (recording in studio/gigs etc), and will be plugging it into a bigger monitor when I am working at home.
I cannot afford the 15", and an iMac is not an option, due to portability.
Also, for music production (audio tracks and midi, with plugins), would you guys recommend I upgrade to the 2.9Ghz i7 and 8bg RAM?

Why SDK and not just JRE

Hi,
I am amazed that for just running a Java application one needs the Java SDK and not the runtime environment only.
Has Oracle got shares with hard disk manufacturers ?

The reason to require a JDK or our bundled jre+tools.jar is for the plsql debugger. The debugger use the jdi apis which are not included in the stock jre. If you never intend on using the plsql debugger you can use a jre and everything else will run just fine.

So I have a 1.8 GHz PowerPC G5 iMac (old skool, yes I know) and I reciently updated from my OS 10.3 to Leopard 10.5.6 (mostly because the internet would no longer work and I had to update or I couldn't get the latest browsers.)
However, I just reciently discovered that while my FCP HD 4.5 has been working like it used to, my DVD SP 3 no longer works. This has been a horrible surprise for me, especially since I need to burn a DVD for a project I'm working on. I've been searching all over the internet and these forums for the solution, but nothing has helped.
Here is the problem: When I open DVD SP 3 and try to save anything, the program crashes and disappears.
Apparently I've been getting an "Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGBUS) Exception Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE at 0x000000000000070b Crashed Thread: 0" error.
One of the solutions I read to fix this problem was to try deleting my User Prefrences. I did this, restarted, and now when I tried to use the program, I was able to open DVD SP, import an asset, and SAVE! However, once I tried to drag an asset into the menu screen or do anything productive with those assets, I get a new error message that reads "The document “soultrain” could not be saved."
I tried opening an old file from before the upgrade and was able to not only access it, but burn a fully fuctional dvd. This leads me to believe that the program can't be completely incompatible with OS 10.5.6, but whats stopping me from saving?
Another solution I read about here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1113 said that the solution was to upgrade from Pro Application Support 3.1 to Pro Application Support 4.0. It describes almost exactly the problem I'm having, however, PAS 4.0 doesn't seem to be available anywhere on the Apple Support Downloads site. I google searched the patch and was able to find it elsewhere. However when I tried to install it I was now getting a Javascript error that read: "You cannot install Pro Application Support on this volume. There was an error evaluating JavaScript for the package."
After upgrading Java, restarting, and trying again, I still get the same error.
I am at a total loss. I really really need some help with this problem.

I don't know if this helps, but I'm still working on this problem and took a screen shot of my Console Message errors:
What's happening here is opening the program, trying to save and it crashes. Then trying to open the program again and it crashing before it even opens. Finally opening the program a third time and trying to save it using "save as" instead of "save" (which I found one forum recommending) and it crashing again.

Why can I not get my Pro 8000 to default to A4

Well I finally managed to get my Officejet Pro 8000 A809 to work on "Network" with all my computers, my Windows 7 ACER laptop took a lot of persuading, and a 2 hour download on 2 computers of the latest software (once for the XP PC to which the ethernet ports are connected, and once to the laptop), before finally working as a "Web services printer" after having told me to disconnect the USB cable. I plugged the USB back in later, and lo and behold it decided to work with that too. My wifes ASUS would not install at all and kept throwing up a fatal error message on drive F: - Hold on, it doesn't have a drive F:, so I got my external DVD R/RW and plugged it into the USB socket, I now had a drive F: and it loaded perfectly. So if this happens to you, you know what to try! The surprise was how effortlessly the Apple Mac Mini connected.
My major problem is convincing the printer to default to A4 instead of US Letter size. If I go to preferences and play with the pretty pictures and set single sided printing to A4 and "APPLY" and click OK then it is set to A4.... until I set double-sided printing to A4, whereupon single-sided reverts to US Letter - Yes, I know I can set my own styles, but that clutters up the viewing panel, and some choices disappear off the bottom. Any suggestions?

Thank you for you post. The Hp Software Drivers are designed to have the Letter size as default for all region, However, you can follow the below given steps to resolve this issue .
In order to resolve the issue please follow the steps given below:
1.       Click on Start and click on Control Panel.
2.       In the control Panel window click on “Regional and Language Settings”.
3.       In the regional and language options window, click on Formats tab.
4.       Under Current format select “English (United Kingdom)”
5.       Then click on Locations tab and under Current location select “United Kingdom”
6.       Then click on Keyboard and Languages tab and then click on Change Keyboards button that will open the Text Services and Languages window.
7.       Click on General Tab and under default input language select “English (United Kingdom)”. If United Kingdom is not listed, then click on Add.
8.       Select United Kingdom and click on OK, then select United Kingdom and click on Move Up.
9.       Click on Apply and then on OK.
10.   In the Regional and Language Options window, click on Administrative tab.
11.   Under Language for non – Unicode programs, click on “Change system locale” button.
12.   Under “Current system Locale” click on the drop down menu and select English (United Kingdom) and click on OK.
13.   You will be prompted to restart the computer. Click on Restart Now.
14.   Once the computer is restarted, please click on Start and then on Control Panel.
15.   In the control Panel window, click on “Regional and Language Settings”.
16.   In the regional and language options window, click on Administrative tab.
17.   Under “Reserved Accounts” click on “Copy to reserved accounts” button.
18.   Check the boxes “Default user accounts (new users)” and “System accounts (local system, local services, and network service)” and click on OK.

the cloud was installed and premiere does not show up as an video app option for install. Why?

Usually, if an pplication is not display/listed it is because the machine involved is not compatible with it. Check the Premiere tech specs and see if the machine comes up short.

Why ITS and not WebDynpro

Hello,
I understand ITS was the first in the series to Web enable SAP Applications. Later BSP and now in 640 WebDynpro can be used to Web enable the SAP Applications.
But why still ITS is retained? Does it have any advantages over BSP/Web Dynpro?
In SRM-EBP,ITS is used & almost all transactions are Web Transactions.Why BSP/WebDynpro is not used to develop these transactions in SRM. Is there a specific reason to retain ITS-Web Transactions in SRM.
Will it be retained in future SRM Releases or will ITS be replaced by BSP/WebDynpro is future releases.

Are you talking about printing from Web Dynpro ABAP? If so, LOCL will not work. There is no direct connect to the SAPGUI/Client in Web Dynpro. You have to follow the same rules as when running in Batch - which means no LOCL printing.

Why Logic and not protools other than midi

why have users chosen Logic over protools...not a debate but just a little feedback, Thanks.

Not wishing to debate either. The following are my opinions based on having worked on both systems:
- Logic's MIDI editing/arranging capabilities (and ease of access) far exceed those of PT. For me, PT's MIDI implementation is a welcome addition to more recent versions, but it's downright primitive compared to Logic, DP, Cubase, etc.
- Many important MIDI manipulation functions can be carried out non-destructively and in real time, including velocity, gating, transposition, and delay.
- Extensive notation capabilities that come close to those of dedicated notation programs such as Finale and Sibelius
- Audio operations are, in some respects, much easier in Logic than PT. For example, if you have a 1-measure drum loop that you want to run down through an entire track, you need only to place the first instance of it in Logic's Arrange window. Turn loop on and voila, it's done. No copying/pasting required. I can think of other operations that, to me, are much more easily accomplished in Logic than PT but I'm trying to keep this reply brief.
- Aliases of audio regions can be created, so changes to the original region are automatically reflected in all aliases (no sure if PT offers that).
- Compatibility with a wide variety of audio file types with no file type conversion necessary.
- User-definable key commands
- Ability to group tracks in folders (to cut down on eye-clutter, and, to easily mute/solo groups of tracks). I know this can be accomplished with Groups in PT, but having worked on both systems, Logic's folders are more intuitive and easier to deal with.
