Why connect two dhcp servers with different IP addresses?

so for an assignment at college we had to configure a router connected to two switches which both had a server connected to them.
the computers were connected via dhcp to either server however each side had a different IP. we have now been asked to justify as to why two servers were used with different IP which I cannot quite produce a business orientated answer.
I can understand connecting two dchp servers on same IP to increase fault tolerance but I do not understand using two separate IP addresses.

Hi,
Does “using two separate IP addresses“ mean 2 subnets which are connected by router?
If you have separately configured 2 DHCP servers on the 2 subnets, and want 1 of the 2 DHCP servers to provide fault tolerance for the other. You need to use an RFC 1542–compliant router, or DHCP relay agent, in order to forward DHCP broadcast traffic.
If there is any misunderstanding about your question, please correct.

  • Two DNS Servers with different SOA

    Hello,
I have a DNS Server in my main office (Lab environment) of an Active Directory domain.
I have set up another one in a branchoffice, and they communicated to each other just fine with a ISA Server VPN Site-to-site.
The link of that VPN broke and the branchoffice was off line for several days.
I managed to bring up again that VPN site to site, but now I see that the SOA within the DNS Sever in the branchoffice is
482, whereas the SOA in the DNS Server in the main office is
    548.
I read somewhere that this SOA is precisely for this cases, and that Active Directory would determine which DNS is better and therefore, the branchoffice would take the new dns records.
Is this so? . I am waiting but don't see that the branchoffice takes that 548 SOA Number from the DNS in the main office.
    Thanks in advance!
P.S : I manually changed some things in the DNS in the Branchoffice and I am hoping that the SOA will work that out.

Hello again, I feel sort of annoying by posting so many things.
I created a user in DC3 and it was replicated to DC1-New. If I do it the other way around, it does not work.
In other words, the replication process only works this way DC3 --> DC1-New. I have checked it is not a firewall issue, all are off, since I began this lab.
    If I run repadmin /showrepl in DC1-New ,
it sees DC3 and all success messages regarding the replication.
    If I run repadmin /showrepl in DC3,
    it just sees nothing.
I also run dcdiag /test:knowsofroleholders in DC3 and
there is this message: The holder of the Schema master is a deleted DC (DC1) . The same of all the 5 FSMOs.
I am trying to find a way to tell DC3 that the FSMOs holder is not DC1, but DC1-New.
    Thanks for your support.

  • I have two Iphones with different email addresses sharing one Apple ID. Will that cause problems with using messaging and FaceTime?

I have two Iphones 5 with different email addresses sharing one Apple ID account. Both are using IOS 8.
I would like to set up a new Apple Id for one of the phones and remove it from the old account.
If I do that, can I move all of the purchased apps and songs to the new Apple account?
Also, will sharing one Apple ID account with two devices cause problems with using messaging and FaceTime?

Sharing an iCloud account between two devices can be done without causing issues with iMessage and FaceTime, just go into Settings for each of these functions and designate separate points of contact (i.e. phone number only, or phone number and unique email address).  While that works, you'll then face the problem where a phone call to one iPhone will ring both if on the same Wi-Fi network -- but again, that can be avoided by changing each phone's settings.
Rather than do all that, don't fight it -- use separate IDs for iCloud.  You can still use a common ID for iTunes purchases (the ID for purchases and iCloud do not have to be the same) or you can use Family Sharing to share purchases from a primary Apple account.

  • One Internet Connection, Two different LANS & Two DHCP Servers, How to share internet without conflict?

I have two LANs and one internet connection.  Each LAN has its own DHCP server.  I want to be able to have internet access on BOTH LANs but don't
want to have a DHCP conflict between them.
The main LAN is a Time Warner Cable modem and a Cisco router running DHCP going to a 48 port switch that has all the workstations connected.
The second is a stand alone Windows 2012 WDS server which is ONLY use to image computers via WDS. The server is running DHCP as well and is connected to another 48 port switch where I connect systems that need to be imaged.
I want to be able to provide internet access on LAN with the Windows 2012 WDS server so after I image the computers I can download drivers direct from the internet.   The Windows WDS server has two NIC cards but I am only using one.   Is
it possible to configure this so the internet from the main LAN is shared to the WDS server and its clients without causing problems with the two DHCP servers?   Here is a basic network diagram.   Thanks!

    Hi Adam,
To share the internet on secondary VLAN, please follow the steps below:
Connect the secondary switch to Cisco router
Configure the devices on secondary VLAN to use Cisco router as its' gateway
Configure NAT for secondary VLAN on Cisco router
Due to different manufacturer has different ways to configure, for detailed configuration information, please consult the manufacturer of the switch and router.

  • Connecting two Central Servers??

    Mohan,
    More info may be beneficial.
If you are trying to share service objects across two environments, you will
    need to create
a reference partition. If the two different Central Servers are truly on two
    different machines,
    you can connect their environments.
If it's a matter of having your app on one server and the database on another,
    you can
use SQLNET and connect using TNS NAMES.
The forte manuals can tell you how to create a reference partition, connect
    environment,
    etc.
    Hope this helps somewhat.

I have heard about connecting 2 environments. I have never tried it
myself. Here is how you do it.
As long as your second environment has an environment visible service
object and your first environment does not have such an SO with the same
name, you can specify in the FORTE_NS_ADDRESS environment variable of
the first environment, the address for both the environments. This is
what I have seen in some examples
    FORTE_NS_ADDRESS=env1:5000;env2:5000;env3:5000 and so on.
The control will query each environment for the SO.
Hope this helps. Remember, I have not tried it, so I cannot authenticate
    it.

  • Performance between two partitionned tables with different structure

    Hi,
I would like if there is a difference between two partitionned tables with different structure in term of performance (access, query, insertions, updates ).
I explain myself in detail :
I have a table that stores one value every 10 minutes in a day (so we have 144 values (24*6) in the whole day), with the corresponding id.
    Here is the structure :
    | Table T1 |
    + id PK |
    + date PK |
    + sample1 |
    + sample2 |
    + ... |
    + sample144 |
The table is partionned on the column date, with a partionned every months. The primary key is based on the columns (id, date).
There is an additionnal index on the column (id) (is it useful ?).
I would like to know if it is better to have a table with just (id, date, value) , so for one row in the first table we'll have 144 rows in the future? table. The partition will already be on the columns (id, date) with the index associated.
What are the gains or loss in performance with this new structure ( access, DMLs , storage ) ?
I discuss with the Java developers and they say it is simpler to manage in their code.
Oracle version : Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.3.0 - 64bit Production
    Thanks & Regards

I mean storage in tablespaces and datafiles on disk.
Can you justify please and give me concrete arguments why the two structures are equivalent ( except inserting data in T(id, date, value))
because i have to make a report.i didnt say any thing like
two structures are equivalent ( except inserting data in T(id, date, value)i said
    About structure : TABLE1(id, date, value) is better than TABLE1(id, date, sample1, .... sample144)because
    1) oracle has restriction for numbers of column. Ok you can have 144 columns now but for future if you must have more than 1000 columns , what will you do?
    2) Restrictions on Table Compression (Table compression is not supported for tables with more than 255 columns.)
    3) store same type values on diffrent columns is bad practise

  • Multiple report servers - with different uifont.ali

Can we have multiple report servers with different NLS_LANG?
They all should be started as windows service. Also I would like to have them look at different uifont.ali. The reason is that we want to have the same report run with different fonts in different languages. This way I can map the fonts in uifont.ali as I want.
    Is it possible?

I don't think this is possible with multiple reports servers with one Oracle 9iAS home. You will have to install multiple 9iAS, in different Oracle homes.
This also means that you have different URL's (port numbers) for the two environments.
I have used this configuration before to install a test and production environment on one web server. Changing the conf files, variables etc. in the test environment doesn't influence the production environment that way.

  • Front-end web servers with different OS

    Hi everybody,
is it possible to build a SharePoint farm with front-ends with different OS (W2k8R2 & W2012)?
    Thanks in advance,
    Sergio Calleja

There should be no issues in having two WFEs running with different operating systems. If MOSS 2007 version can successfully support a mix environment of having two different OS on WFE then why not SharePoint 2013.
But I recommend to set a test environment first and test your mixed setup environment. This will gain you more confidence and sure possibility to implement it on production. Else I see no compatibility issues even if you directly implement the mixed WFE
    environment on SharePoint 2013 production.

I ahve two itunes accounts with different Apple ID's.  How can I merge them into one account?

Apple has no provisions for this. You cannot merge multiple Apple ID's into one ID. Content is always tied to the Apple ID that was used to purchase it.

  • Merge of two same items with different Qty in po

    Hi Experts,
Is it possible to merge two Same items with different Quantity into 1.
For Eg:- 2 similar  items  with qty 2 & 3 must show 5 qty appearing once.Is it possible through Transnotification what should be the query.
    Mona

    Hi Mona,
If you want to display a Purchase Order on screen summarized by item, set the "Summary Type"  to "By Item" (by default it is "No Summary"). The PO lines will then be summarized by item with total quantity for each item.
If you want to display it on the printout then you need to modify the PLD. It is quite easy actually. You can use the Repetitive Area Footer to display the summary of each item and set all fields in the Repetitive Area to be not visible and set the height to minimum height.
    Cheers,

  • Joining two fact tables with different dimensions into single logical table

    Hi Gurus,
I try to accomplish in Oracle Business Intelligence 11.1.1.3.0:
    F1 (D1, D2 and D3)
    F2 (D1 and D2 and D4)
    And we want to build a report F1 F2 D1 D2 D3 D4 to have data for:
F1 that match only for D1-D2-D3
    and data for
    F2 that match only D1-D2-D4
all that in one row, so D3 and D4 are not common dimensions.
    I can only do:
    F3 (D1, D2)
    F4 (D1, D2 and D4)
    And report
F3 F4 D1,D2,D4 (all that in one row, and only D4 is not a common dimension)
Here is the very good example how to accomplish the scenario 1
    http://108obiee.blogspot.com/2009/08/joining-two-fact-tables-with-different.html
But looks like it does not work in 11.1.1.3.0
    I get
State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 43113] Message returned from OBIS. [nQSError: 14025] No fact table exists at the requested level of detail: [,,Clients,,Day,ROI,,,,EW_Names,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,]. (HY000)
I am sure I set up everything correctly as advised in the blog but it works with only one not a common dimension
Is it a bug in 11.1.1.3.0 or something?
    Thanks,
    Kate

    Thanks for all your replies.
Actually, I've tried the solutions you guys mentioned. Generally speaking, the result should be displayed. However, my scenario is a little bit tricky.
table Y's figures are not the aggregation of table X for D dimension. Instead, table Y's figures include not only D dimension total, but also others (others do not mean A, B, C dimension). For example, table Y stores all food's figure, while table X stores only drink's figure. D dimension is only about drink's detail. In my scenario, other foods' figure is not provided.
So, even if I set D dimension to all/total for table X, table X's result is still not the same as table Y.
Indeed, table Y does not have a column key to join to D dimension's key. So, if I select D dimension and table Y's measures at the same time in BI Answer, result returns no data. Hence, I can't compare table X and table Y's results with selection of D dimension.
Is there any solution to solve this problem?

  • Distributed File System Replication between servers with different performance

If Distributed File System Replication is set between servers with different performance. What will happen with the performance of the fastest server? Will the performance decrease to match the performance of the
slowest server in the chain? I mean, will the source slow down (processor speed) if the recipients can't keep up?

    Hi,
If you mix different performance server for DFS replication, most of improvements on the fastest server are disabled for backwards compatibility and the performance decrease to match the performance of the slowest server.

  • Connecting two Nexus switches with link

    Hi,
I would like to connect two nexus switches with a link. Like one c5020 and one c5548p. How do i need to configure the ports at both the switches which will be joined with a fiber cable.
For MDS switches such links becomes E-port and fabric is merged. Not sure what happenes at the Nexus swictches. Any input will be appreciated.
    Thanks,

Do you have fc modules in each nexus? If so, they act much like the MDS 9148. All ports should be default auto speed and auto switchport mode. Insert fc-sfp's and a regular multimode fc cable between them. Default mode is fc switch.
If that doesn't work, configure the mode on each port as E.
Once done, the fc switch portion of each nexus will merge.
