Why did Apple remove iTunes Dj in iTunes 11??????

I'm really sick of this trend. Apple insists on removing everything good that they actually do! It's like they continue to shoot themselves in the foot until there is nothing left to stand on. Aaaaaargggghhh! I just want iTunes DJ back!

You deserve the real credit because your post gave me the drive to search for a better solution than the command-period shortcut even though the removal of the flag icon in iPhoto '11 has bugged me ever since I first starting using it. I found an article where the author told about the gray flag icon on the top left corner of photos in the thumbnail view, but also criticized that it isn't in the view you really use to review pics. The author then went into the command-period shortcut option. What the author didn't mention and I brought to the solution was maximizing the zoom when in the thumbnail view. I gave myself a pat on the back for that one! lol

Why did Apple make iTunes 7 look like a Windows XP App.? This version of iTunes doesn't even look like it belongs in OSX. It's ugly is about the only way I can put it. I can't figgure out why they removed the EQ icon and didn't even assign a key command for it. Now yoy have to go into the menu to select it. Also I have noticed that it sometimes downloads the wrong artwork for album covers. The old version of iTunes seemed much better and I have reverted back to it untill Apple fixes the problems with version 7 and makes it look like part of the OSX family of applications.

Well I wouldn't say it was ugly but some changes do leave something to be desired.
I certainly aggree about the equaliser button and the visualiser button has gone too but at least they assigned a key command for it. The scrollbars need more colour and I'd prefer the buttons at the bottom to stand out a bit more like the ones at the top.
I see no reason to go back to iT6 though, especially as I would misss Cover Flow. You could have a long wait for a change of interface and in the meantime you miss out on the good parts of iT7. If your track information is correct and identical to that on the Store then it shouldn't get the wrong artwork. Luckily I already had most of my album covers in place from other sources such as Amazon and just used iTunes to get a few more. My only complaint about the Get Album Artwork feature is that it's getting it from the US store when I want it from the UK store.
Anyway these forums are really here to enable users to help each other solve problems and not to discuss Apple's decisions. If there are things you want changing then do what I and others do and send constructive criticisms and requests via the link below, if you haven't already.

Apple don't make or 'own' songs - other companies allow Apple to sell them. Sometimes these rights owners remove the songs from the store. Apple can't do much about that. You should make backups of any purchases, since Apple cannot guarantee they will be available in future.

Re: Have today loaded the 3.3 up date on Aperture. After the up date the colour of the Menu Bar and all icons showing projects / albums etc are now grey. Any thoughts on how to reestablish the colours.

Every mac operating system software until Lion had the ability to use up/down arrows in the scroll bar. This makes it easy to move up and down in small increments. In Lion, it is impossible to move up and down in small increments. Click on the scroll bar and it moves up or down an entire page. When you try to put the curser on the scrollbar and move it up just a little, it moves a whole bunch. With the up/down arrows, you can click on the arrow and it will scroll ulp or down one line a time. There is no way to do this in Lion. Why would apple remove the very useful feature of up and down arrows.

Why did Apple remove Coverflow?

I have rarely used this discussion site in the past to complain about Apple. But I am finding that with every upgrade, tey are ruining the things that made their products a step above the rest. The recent changes to Itunes has removed Coverflow. I like how coverflow allows me to scroll through songs visually in a playlist rather than having to see a list of songs that is flat and unfriendly to use.

Removing Coverflow was not "recent". It was removed in iTunes 11 over a year ago.
Apple has not stated why it was removed.

This is a step backwards. I download and try hundreds of games/apps and usually delete them from my phone when done but with iOS4, you can't RATE them as you delete them. Why was this feature removed?

Apple actually talked about why they did this. They did so at the request of developers who thought that it was unfair to their apps. Asking users to rate an app when they were deleting it meant it was far more likely to get a negative review. After all, if a user is deleting an app it likely means they weren't enamored of the app in the first place.
I suppose this would be fine if it was balanced by also asking users to rate their apps at other times during regular usage when they were more likely satisfied with the app, but that wasn't the case. All in all I think developers had a fair point and I'm glad Apple removed the feature.

Why did Apple remove flag icon from iPhoto '11?

I just updated to iPhoto '11 and there are a few interesting changes. One is that Apple removed the "flag" icon from the app. I wish they hadn't done that because I use that a lot and don't want to have to go to the dropdown menu to flag a photo. Does anyone know if you can put the flag icon back? I don't see anyway to customize the iPhoto tools. Thanks.

Why did Apple remove the Hold-Menu/Backlight function?

I just updated to ipod software version 1.1.1 and wondering why the "Hold Menu to switch Backlight on/off" function was replaced with "Hold Menu to return to Main Menu" function???
Ive been a huge fan of the Menu-Backlight switch since my 4G ipod, as I prefer to always keep the Backlight off and use it only when I absolutely cannot read the screen. I find it saves significant battery life compared to even the 2 second Backlight Timer. In the dark, this function is very practical especially since performing a simple operation such as adjusting volume or skipping tracks doesnt require any backlight. Also, I take a dark ghetto commuter bus and try hard to not draw attention to my 5G ipod with a bright glow from within my jacket pocket.
Why cant Apple offer an option in Settings menu or an alternative version with different Hold-Menu functionality?

Well the beauty of the old Hold-Menu>Backlight function was that it was basically a quick on/off switch...light turns on...light turns off...whereas the new "Quick Return to Main Menu" function didnt really solve a problem. If you need to get return to the main menu, you can blindly press Menu repeatly until you reach the main menu, how hard is that? Also, you only need to press Menu a maximum 4 times to reach the Main Menu from any submenu (unless youve created multiple subfolder hiearchies within the Notes folder.
My point is, as a result of elimination of the Backlight "switch" is increased precise navigation, which equals a loss in usability and practicality. So what happens when you suddenly need to use backlight? You either prepare in advance, lets say everyday before you head home from the office, you need to remember to set the Backlight Timer on. Or you face the scenario where it gets kinda dark by the time you leave the office, but you forgot to turn on the Backlight Timer...now what? Well look for some well lit place to change the settings, or if you can blindly navigate to the main menu and scroll carefully and precisely to the Backlight option. Ok a little extreme but I hope some of you reading this GET it.
So far the only way to retain this practical function is reverting to or continue using ipod software version 1.0. The most annoying thing about continuing to run v1.0 is everytime you connect the ipod to the computer, theres a popup begging you to update the ipod software. By refusing to update, you will miss out on some bug fixes (esp for Videora converted videos) and the volume limiter function.
Show your support for the lost Menu-Backlight function and maybe Apple will hear us out.

Why did Apple remove the INFO tab in iTunes? I like syncing my Outlook for Mac Calendar to my iPhone.

I find the iCal very restricting and like using my Outlook for Mac calendar and contacts. But with the new Maverick, they have removed this feature. Why can't they play nice w/Microsoft?

This has nothing to do with Microsoft. It was removed with Mavericks for syncing direct with Apple's Address Book and iCal, etc. via the iTunes sync process as well.

Why did Apple remove the choice of having 2 playlist open in iTunes at once?

Is there a way to reslove it? As a aerobic instructor it would be good to view a previous playlist against one in process side by side.

Why? I doubt anybody here could definitively (= nobody from Apple will say, and nobody not from Apple will really know) tell you. Simply embrace the exciting new features each version of iTunes offers you.
One person mentioned printing a list of one playlist to a PDF window and displaying that, though of course that's just an image, not somethign you can use for rearranging tracks.

I was wondering if they removed it temporarly or forever, since after the second day of using it it disappeared from my music app. This also happened to one of my friends it's still not back its been 1 week since this happened? I have done resets to see if it would be there again but it wasn't.

I know this is an old post and so the individual who posed the question may not read my answer. However, I too had this issue. What you do is you go to itunes click the Itunes tab on the top (where you have your apple logo if you're using a mac) and go into your settings, then check off Internet Radio and anything else you want displayed (ie songs, albums, genres, podcasts). Then hit save. Then exit your itunes and open it up again... next to songs, albums ,etc... you should see a tab or icon called Internet. That's your radio. I hope it helps

I hate the new iTunes. Useless steps for navigation. They took something simple and complicated. Is there another music player for Mac. Unless I get the old iTunes back I'm done! I would use anything but this ridiculous player. How could they do this? Steve Jobs would never have let this happen.

iTunes works fine for me, and hasn't been "destroyed" by any means. If you can't deal with the new, simpler interface, just go to the View menu and select "Show Sidebar" and "Show Status Bar". iTunes 11 will then look much like the pervious versions did.

I can't see all of the screen - are the tracks ordered by track number? If so, then the "Join Tracks" option should be available to you. If you follow this sequence of operations (with apologies if this seems tediously obvious ...):
insert CD
wait for track info to appear
click on the heading of the column containing track numbers (normally this will be ordered sequentially, first to last, and the column will have a "^" symbol in the heading:
The track order should now be reverse (highest to lowest), with a down arrow symbol in the heading
Click on the column heading a second time - this will ensure that tracks really are in correct sequential order
Now hold down SHIFT and select the first of the tracks you want to join followed by the last of the tracks you wish to join. One set of tracks should now be highlighted.
Click on Options
If you're still not seeing the "Join Tracks" option then there may be an underlying issue that'll require further investigation.

Why did Apple remove edit ability?

In Apple's latest upgrade? of iTunes I can't find a way to select all of a group and selecting that group so that it can be deleted as in the past. What gives?
Instead of adding features, Apple has removed more than then have added if any at all.

You can select songs using combinations of click, ctrl-click and shift-click as before. Right-click on the selection for options. You can restore the menu bar with ctrl-b or use the little tool at the top left of the iTunes window.
