Why did Firefox clear my history when it shouldn't have?

I don't know what caused this. I manually restarted Firefox and noticed in the Task Manager that Firefox's process was not ending. It does this from time to time, so I took a little break from the computer assuming that it would end in a minute or so. After a couple of minutes from the computer, I saw that Firefox's process was still running. Instead of manually ending the process, I reopened Firefox just because. And usually when you reopen while the process tries to end, a prompt comes up on the screen telling you that Firefox is still running and you should wait for it to close, but that did not happen. Instead, Firefox reopened while the process was still running from the last time. And when Firefox opened again, I didn't have any of my app tabs and all of my open tabs and tab groups from before were gone. So I tried checking the history tab for recently closed stuff and my old window with my app tabs, etc. was saved so I opened that and closed the window without my stuff thinking all would be well. But then I restarted Firefox again to assure that the process would close and it did, but when I reopened Firefox, my app tabs and opened tabs and tab groups were gone again but the recently closed windows menu was grayed out. So now all of my stuff is gone and I don't know how I can get it back or what specifically caused this to happen. It's really frustrating, especially considering that I don't have the box checked for Firefox to clear history when I close it, and I do have the box checked for Firefox to remember my browsing and download history. What can I do, if anything, to bring back my stuff? I tried restoring my history with FEBE, but it just keeps freezing up Firefox and isn't helping at all. Someone please help me.

Hi,
You can try to check if there are additional profiles in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder Firefox Profile Folder]. If there are more profile folders, please see [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Profiles?s=profile&r=2&e=sph&as=s this].
If the Vista version has [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Previous-versions-of-files-frequently-asked-questions Previous Versions] you can try to restore an old version of the '''*.default''' folder.
This could be related to [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=573369 Bug 573369] as noted in the [https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/13.0.1/releasenotes/ Firefox 13.01 release notes] though in a different way. You could also [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/enter_bug.cgi file a new report].

  • What's the difference between keep cookies until I close firefox and clear cookie history when firefox closes?

In the settings for Firefox 33.0 (I am using Ubuntu 14.04 but the functionality is the same for Windows 7) there are two different ways to delete cookies when firefox closes. Or at least there seems to be.
First is the keep cookies until firefox closes
Second is to check the box to clear history when firefox closes and in the settings check cookies.
What is the difference between these two options?
I usually have both setup but I was noticing that a login was not saving for td canada trust easyweb, even though I have an exception set for it. Now I unchecked to delete cookies when clearing the history on close and the login saves correctly.
This login saves 7 cookes under easyweb.td.com and 10 cookies under td.com and I have exceptions set for both. If I clear history on close and include cookies, half of the td.com cookies are gone when I close firefox and re-open. The same is true if I don't set the exception.
So currently I cannot figure out a way to keep all the cookies if I clear cookie history when firefox closes. What is the difference when this is enabled?

Let all cookies expire when Firefox is closed to make them session cookies.
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: Keep until: "I close Firefox"
Create a cookie 'allow' exception for cookies that you would like to keep.
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: Exceptions
Clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, passwords, and other website specific data.
Clearing cookies will remove all specified (selected) cookies including cookies with an allow exception that you would like to keep.

Why did my phone shut down when I started updating software?

    Hi Patraposo,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
It is difficult to know why devices behave unexpectedly; however there are several articles on the Support site that can help recover your iPhone if the update did not complete.
If your iPhone will not turn on, start with the steps in the "Power/Battery" section of this article:
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2802
If you just see the "connect to iTunes" screen, the steps in this article can help:

  • Firefox 4 forgets all my APP TAB tabs when configured to automatically clear browsing history when Firefox closes? Not much of a feature!

    When I configure
Options>Privacy>History -> Clear history when Firefox closes -> When I quit Firefox, it should automatically clear all: -> Browsing History
all of my App Tab tabs are cleared, as well. Do I have to give up my privacy in order to use the App Tab feature?

You can try to select only one setting at the time in [[Clear Recent History]] to see which one is causing the crash.

  • Why is the "Clear Recent History" under my "History" menu inactive (grayed out, not black)?

When I click on the "History" icon, I get a new window with "History" at the top. Under it are three sub-options: "view History Sidebar", "Clear Recent History" (which is the one that I want to access), and "Restore Previous Session". Only the first one is black/active/"hot"; the other two are gray and do nothing when either clicked or the designated keyboard alternative is used. what must I do to be able to clear my history.

Did you make sure that Firefox isn't already running in private browsing mode?
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
*Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Safe+Mode
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes
You can also check the target line in the Firefox desktop shortcut.
You can use an extension to get Private Browsing mode support per tab to see if that shows that you are in a Private Browsing mode tab.
    *Private Tab: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/private-tab/
*Private Browsing mode tabs get a dashed underline
*You can toggle Private Browsing mode on/off on each tab via the right-click context menu of the tab
Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.
*Download the full Firefox installer and save the file to the desktop<br>https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/
If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove "personal data" when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    *(32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
    *(64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure NOT to remove personal data when you uninstall Firefox as that will remove all Firefox profile folders and you lose your personal data.
If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.

  • Why did my CS4 Stop Running When I Installed a Trial Version of Elements?

Why did my Adobe CS4 Stop Running When I Installed a Trial Version of Elements?
I cannot use any of my purchased Adobe CS4 products.  I installed a trial version of Elements and none of my licensed CS4 components will run.  Please help.

So let me be sure I understand:
You can open Photoshop normally as it was before you saw the trial version?
Bridge CS6 opens, but you cannot see your pictures?  Here's an easy way to check:
First reboot your computer. Photoshop CS6 should open normally, that way we know it's fixed.  You can exit Photoshop
    Now...
Make a shortcut to Bridge CS6 and place it on your desktop.
From Windows Explorer, drag one of your picture folders to the Bridge shortcut.
Bridge should open and show the pictures in your folder.
If it does not, get back to me and we will look at other ideas.

  • Why does Firefox freeze my computer when I click on an email address or link to a page that asks for contact information?

when i click on an email link, my computer freezes and firefox will open new tabs until i force quit the application. i downloaded the latest version of firefox for a mac, but it did not help. how do i correct this problem?

    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.14) Gecko/20110218 Firefox/3.6.14

  • Why did Firefox reset itself and delete all my bookmarks and favorites and how can i restore all my important information ? thank you .

Hello , this is what happen ! I turned on my Desktop from being in sleep mode and as it came on Firefox restored everything and made me lose all my settings and all my toolbar favorites and bookmarks , all my work was on here and all the compan y's I have dealt with in automobile restorations .
I tried a system restore from a date of a week ago but nothing came back , I really need someones help to restore my Favorites .I would also like the other version of firefox I feel lost with the version I have now and I dont like change .
    Thank you .

Click on "Bookmarks" in your "Menu Bar".
Next click on "Show All Bookmarks"
The Library Dialog will open to you bookmarks. At the top of the dialog will be the option to "Import and Backup". Click "Import and Backup" scroll down to "Restore", when your hovers over "Restore" a list of backed up bookmarks should appear. If not, quite possibly Firefox has not been saving backups.
You can also manually save bookmark backups from the "Show All Bookmarks" portion of the Library by clicking "Import and Backup", and then "Backup..."
Also if you open another tab, you can type "about:config" in the address bar and press <ENTER>. This opens options not normally accessible. The first time it gives you a warning, you can disable the warning or leave it in place for the next the you open "about:config".
In the Search Bar type "bookmarks" and press <ENTER> . A list of attributes should narrow down to a few attributes about bookmarks. Look for "browser.bookmarks.max_backups" see what value is set... it should be set to "10". It sets the maximum number of automatic updates. To change it to a different value double click that attribute and increase/decrease just don't go overboard. Also you can delete older backups, just be careful. My bookmarks are listed with the newest ones first.

  • Why does my sound say "headphones" when I don't have any headphones in?

I have a iPhone 4 and it's an 8GB phone, and it is updated to iOS 7.0.4. When I move the switch on the side that controls silent or ringer, it shows up on my screen saying "headphones" when I do not have headphones in. So basically I have no sound and only vibrate. But if I were to insert headphones there is sound through my ear piece as it normally should be. I had my phone in my bag and my water bottle in my bag spilt and I'm assuming I have this sound problem because it is water damaged but I'm not completely sure. I don't want to put my phone in rice, which I heard is what you're supposed to do when it is water damaged. But I don't want to because a rice can fit in the whole where you insert your headphones and I wouldn't want to get a rice stuck there. I also turned my phone off for more than 10 seconds just so it can reset, thinking maybe it was a temporary issue that could've been fixed by turning your phone off, but no, it is still broken. So how do I fix this? Is the only solution getting fixed at apple?

Also my speakers do not work. When I receive a notification, message, or call there is no ringer and when I answer a call I cannot hear the other line. So I am pretty sure I water damaged my phone. How do I fix this?

  • Why did my browser start crashing when I have two windows or tabs open and I try to close one of them?

I updated Firefox yesterday, 1/11/2013, and now when I try to close a second window or an second tab that I have open, my browser crashes. I tried restarting my computer, but that did not help. I was not on a website that I don't normally use or trust. I tried clearing my cookies and the cache, but that just made both windows and tabs close. I clicked the x on the window to close it, and the same for the open tab. I'm going to try to restart my browser again, and then maybe re-install Firefox, but I don't know what to do if that doesn't work. My OS is Windows 7, if that helps or matters.

hello, unfortunatley those crashes are triggered by the norton confidential 2012/2013 plugin for firefox. according to the bug report associated to the crash signature norton is aware of the issue and planning to release a fix for the bug soon. for details more details it would be best to contact norton's customer support or watch out for updates on symantec's liveupdate.

  • Why did I lose my music when I download and sync a movie

We're new to ipods and itunes. We had a couple songs on our ipod and wanted to get a movie. It took us awhile to figure out how to sync it, but when we did, we got a message that said it would clear out our other libraries. I should have kept the exact message, but I didn't. I figured, OK, we'll just resync for the music again and went ahead. After resyncing after the movie, I was charged again for the music.
Now, my son bought new music and synced it, but lost the movie we downloaded. Why does it do that and how can I avoid it?

  • I had norton auto fillin for my password to my sites why did firefox take it away

when i visited sites that had user and passwords they were on auto fill. where did it go to when i downloaded firefox 4

I have a PowerGen 8400mAh External Battery Pack that my family and I have used on many occasions to charge the 3 iPhones we have.  (2 iPhone 5 and a 4s).  I discovered this past weekend after going on a 40 mile bike ride that my trusted battery will no longer work after I updated to iOS 7.  I use an Apple lightning cable to connect the battery but get "This accessory may not be supported" message after plugging it in.  Why is Apple making many once supported accessories obsolete?  This external battery has been a life saver on many occasions.  It may be time to make the switch to another smart phone if Apple keeps this up.

  • Why does Firefox comsume my computer when in Yahoo Mail

For the past week, something is effecting Firefox when in Yahoo Mail. It does not happen at any other web site.
    # I do not allow automatic updates of any kind. No changes or additions (unless sneaky stealth attacks?) had been made to Firefox since update to version 12 in May. The only add-on I have is the Mozilla Archive Format, which I've been using for years.
    # Windows and various security applications are up-to-date as of very recently.
    # Several up-to-date anti-malware programs have found nothing on my computer.
    # I tried Chrome and Opera. They do not have this problem, but I don't like either of them.
    # I uninstalled Firefox, deleted everything related I could find, downloaded the current version (13) from Mozilla, installed, and rebuilt all my preferences. I got my bookmarks back by restoring from a bookmark backup. This changed nothing.
    # I tried "Restart With Add-ons Disabled" in Firefox, but that did not help.
Firefox starts doing something very intensive once in Yahoo Mail. Sometimes it is in this state when it displays the first screen of mail boxes after I sign on. More often I can do a little bit of something, such as open a mail box or a single e-mail therein before the problem starts. From my perspective it starts this aberrant behavior just when I click on the next thing: open another e-mail; open a different mail box; delete an e-mail.
Normally while in Yahoo Mail, or at any other web site, Task Manager reports CUP usage at from 0% to 5%, occasionally a few percent more for a very brief flash. When this Yahoo Mail thing starts
    # The CPU usage jumps to 25%, with occasional bursts up to 30+%. Task Manger shows it is due to the process firefox.exe*32.
    # The browser will not respond to any controls. I can do nothing with the keyboard or mouse. No menu will open. This has never ended by itself.
    # Task Manager reports the immediate drop of network activity to zero -- nothing going on over the phone line -- or so Windows thinks. Disconnecting the phone line does not release the browser or lower its CPU use.
    # A few times the entire computer has locked. I have only been able to get out of it with the hardware reset button.
    # Sometimes Firefox is totally unresponsive itself but I can cancel it via Task Manager.
    # Sometimes the one and only thing in Firefox that responds is the "X" in the upper right hand corner. The browser screen disappears immediately.
    # BUT, Task Manager shows the process firefox.exe*32 still running at 25% CPU. I can end said process with Task Manager, whereby CPU usage immediately drops to 0%, or somewhere close.
    # Whatever is going on through Firefox prevents me from doing what I want -- and it seems probable that IT is doing something I don't want done, although I have not yet seen symptoms of that.
Where can I go from here?

    Hi,
You can consider the [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/reset-firefox-easily-fix-most-problems Reset Firefox] feature via '''Help''' ('''Alt''' + '''H''') > '''Troubleshooting Information'''. If it is okay, you can then install the Mozilla Archive Format add-on.
If you have security software installed you can try to delete all existing entries for Firefox and its sub processes in the different configuration modules and try to fully trust/allow Firefox afresh. Even after network access is completed, Firefox would still need unlimited access to its disk cache/memory as well as its files. Please see [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Firewalls this].
