Why did I buy Compressor 4?...

Ok so I bought C4 after recently buying FCPX.
Just wondering what advantage it gives me over using FCPX's own Sharing options.
I saved out a Quicktime movie from FCP then opened that in Quicktime Pro.
From there I did a save as and specified a smaller pixel dimension and H.264 compression.
Worked great.
Did a similar spec in C4.
Came out no better than my previous technique.
So Im wondering, what is the advantage of using C4?
Also C4 seems old and dated compared to FCPX and Motion 5.
Are they going to give it an interface update soon?
Just wondering.

Agree that for what you describe, you don't need Compressor.
We don't know about product plans and can't speculate.
Good luck.

    Hello!
They're still being sold in some places: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Dsoftware&field-keywo rds=ilife+09&sprefix=iLife+09%2Caps%2C194&rh=n%3A229534%2Ck%3Ailife+09
However, do you absolutely NEED iDVD? There are alternatives, like Burn (free): http://burn-osx.sourceforge.net/
I suggest you try it out since it's free. Maybe it'll be enough.

  • Why did I buy Nokia ??? Its height of testing a cu...

On 18.05.2011 I had given my nokia C6 to the shop from where I had purchased as  my new phone was not functioning and its been 12 days since then that Nokia is unable to do anything about the situation. Although the manager Mr.. Aniruddha of the Kalighat Nokia care centre in Kolkata has been extremely polite in helping me out. But my unfortunate phone after being sent miles for some inspection has only reached the Nokia Care Centre only last Friday.
I am just cursing myself that why did I buy Nokia?  Can someone do something please ?
Rest of the story goes below:
I am from Kolkata in India and on 01.05.2011 I had purchased a Nokia C6 from South City Mall's Shopper Stop Nokia mobile counter. The phone started giving problems from day 3 but since I was traveling for 16 days I was unable to get it to the same shop. Today on 18th May when I went they told the phone will be sent to service centre and will be returned to me after 25 days. And that too after very rude behaviour of the salesperson. This is ridiculous.
So, I paid for a phone from the Nokia stable and I am unable to use it for more than a month as Nokia would do research on the handset. I have always purchased Nokia handset and ever since mobile services where launched in India. This is the worst experience did not expect this from Nokia. Very bad after sales service.
The problems with the C6 handsets are : software hanging, touch does not work and keyboard not functioning.
    MODERATOR'S NOTE:
We have edited your post as it contains your phone's IMEI. For your security, we do not allow posting such information in the discussion board. Thank you for understanding.
    Solved!

That's pretty standard, my N97 took about 3 weeks to be returned, hope your C6 works well now, in past experience, how long do other phone manusacturers take to repair a phone ? Just wonder as I only have lomited expeience of one problem with a Nokia, so can't judge whether they are slower or quicker than other phone manufacturers at repairs ?

  • Why did I buy an 2.7 Ghg I5?

Why did I buy an 2.7 Ghg I5? What does it do that the regular one doesn't?

While you may not use graphics-intense programs today, as technology goes forward in the future, you'll have a better video system that can handle more intense web video's or web site animations or programs you may run.
And having a little faster CPU will help keep the performance up as programs get more complex over time.
So, I'd suggest while you may not use the full capability of your iMac today, it will serve you well over time.

  • Why did you buy E6x and not E6x?

Why did you pick the one you did, and not the other? We all have differant ways to use our phones. Whick E-series modell did you buy...and why not the other?

given that all the e-series phones seem to be rather unique, i think this is a self answering question.
for instance, why would someone with an e60 get that over an e61? its fairly obvious really

  • Why did you buy a Nokia Laptop?

Just curious to know why anyone would buy a Nokia Laptop over the many alternatives out there.

I bought it for 5 reasons:
    1. I liked the design and the Alu housing - it's really well build. I had an Acer netbook prior to this and it sucked in every way. hated the keyborad, the mouse pad, the screen, the plastic housing and the Acer name.
    2. It has built in easy accessible 3G sim card slot, not like the Acer where the slot was behind the battery. It also has GPS and a nice SD card reader, which my camera also uses. So it's nice to have with me on vacation. HDMI is nice too.
    3. It has a VERY nice battery time - I actually get 8-10 hours out of it effectively surfing the net full time.
    4. I like the screen resolution, you can't go higher on a 10.1" screen.
    5. I like the Nokia brand, it's Scandinavian like myself
What I feel they could have done better to justify the high price tag:
    1. 11" screen instead of the thick black border around the 10" screen.
Do we need 1" border, ½" would have done it.
    2. We need more ram, which we can't have because the 1 Gb ram is fixed to the MB.
    3. I need light in the keybord, even though the battery life will suffer.....place an on/off light button for the keyborad in the next edition please !
    4. Need a faster CPU. The Atom is outdated already.
That's it - 4 negative points. Correct these and you have a PERFECT netbook !!

  • 2 months with no dishwasher and counting - why did I buy a contract?

I would really love to talk to someone at BBY that can help me.
Bought the extended warranty on an LG dishwasher which started throwing errors.
Called GeekSquad.  They said they needed to dispatch, but that they do not service my area directly. (I wish I would have know that upon purchase).  Told me that a 3rd party company would contact me.
Days later, I called the repair facility.  They "didnt have time" to call me to set up the appointment.  Tech (and part) finally come 2 weeks later.
Tech installs.  Does a quick test, and leaves.  I try to use dishwasher and get the same error.  I call the tech.
First, they blame the installation (the dishwasher has worked fine for 18 months).
Then they gave me something to try and call back.  I did - left a message.
2 days later, called back.  A rude woman said I needed to talk to the tech, and he would call.
2 days later, still no call - called back.  A manager YELLED AT ME to be patient.
Then he says they need to order the part again.  The same one they just replaced. (Seriously? No troubleshooting?).
I call BBY to see if this is normal.  I am encouraged to wait for the part.
2 weeks later, I call the repair facility.  Leave message.  Next day, I leave another message.  After three messages, I call BBY again.  Rep calls the tech for me and leaves me a voicemail that the part is on order.  No eta.  Still no callback from the tech.
It's now been 2 months.  Made it through the holidays with no dishwasher.  Starting to think buying appliances at BBY are a bad idea.  Clearly, buying a service contract is folly.
Question - I've tried all the proper channels.  How do I get my dishwasher fixed?  Or the contract refunded so I can go buy another dishwasher elsewhere?

    Hi perlfox,
Two months is way too long to wait for a dishwasher to be repaired, and I am truly sorry this has been your experience with us. I do see that Joel on my team is already assisting you via the email you sent to our Twitter email address, and I would encourage you to reach out to him if you need any immediate assistance in this matter.

  • Why did i buy a 60g video ipod ?

if i can't watch anything but music videos i buy from itunes ?
one purchase i should have thought about.

    Michael,
Here's a another thought. Why don't you go to the iPod 5th generation forum (iPod with video) and brows some of the literally hundreds of posts that answer your question?
    http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=808
I have many videos on my iPod not purchased from Apple.

  • Why did I buy Export PDF?

I see no reason why i was so moved to buy this program. I keep getting the suggestion that I buy the program again. I cannot get a file to print a previously saved PDF file. I keep getting a notation that says after hitting the print button that my file is "Printing to File." I go to my preferences and nothing seems to indicate that. I have Windows XP. I have never had so many issues with the simple task of "printing" a document.
Unless there is some incredibly intuitive reason why this is happening that I am just incapable of figuring out, I will eliminate this program from my computer

I guess one sarcastic tone deserves a responding sarcastic tone. No, I thought the purchase of Export WOULD give me added capabilities but when not only the added capabilities and the previous capabilities get screwed up, my massive investment of $20/yr seems really questionable.
But regardless, I have some new fixes as a result of your conversation. Thanks.
    Dave

  • Why did I buy an iPad?

I feel like I have done a big mistake when I have bought this commercial-only product. I first thought that this device is entertaining, but after I have bought the iPad, I only saw that everything in the app store costs money, isn't it enough that I have spent $500 dollars to buy this device. There are some free apps, but they are demo that make you buy the full version after playing it for a while. The iPad itself without Apps is boring, I can buy any touch computer that can be more useful than the iPad or iPhone or even the iPod touch. The iPad actually is a portable commercial market that only aims on earning money from users. Please respect my opinion and don't remove this question.

  • Why did YOU buy MSI ?

    Hey Guys,
I just bought a DFI Lanparty Ultra-D and now I’m starting to think i should return the Ultra-D and get the MSI KN8 Neo4 Plat.
So what made you guys go MSI over DFI/Abit or even Asus. One thing DFI has going for it is that it has OFFICIAL support in their forums (www.dfi-street.com)... so i guess that's a plus. One of the main reasons I’m thinking about switching is because from what I’ve been reading, the MSI Neo4 seems the be able to boot on the very first attempt, where as with the DFI I’ve seen people post lots of unusual problems where the board just refuses to work... The DFI is defiantly not very user-friendly.
Another reason I was attracted to the MSI Neo4 Plat. was because of the MSI software suite. What do you guys think of the CoreCell and CoreCenter programs... how accurate are they at reporting temps... and are they actually useful overclockign tools?
And the final reason I guess I’ve been attracted over to MSI is because the board just looks so damn good!
Now, I just had a few more questions... I'm going to be getting an A64 4000+ San Diego, so does the 1.2 BIOS support Rev. E chips... or am I going to run into lots of problems (instability) ? I know the 1.4 officially does, but from what I’ve read here... it seems it has serious flaws in it and the consensus i got was to say away from it.
My final question is in regards to the installation of a Thermalright XP-90. I've heard from a friend that the stock retention bracket is glued on instead of screwed on to the mobo, so it'll be really hard removing it and screwing on the retention bracket supplied by the XP-90. Is this true? Has any one here installed the XP-90 on to the Neo4 Plat, and if so... how did it go? Did you have to do anything out of the ordinary... did you need to install a back plate as well?
    **EDIT**
I forgot to ask... Do any of the current BIOS's, or will the be a new BIOS that will allow DRAM voltages of up to 3.0v ? And secondly, which of the Ram slots are best suited for TCCD (OCZ EL PC3200 Plat Rev.2) ram ?
    Thanks in advance!

I have the MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum/SLI motherboard, which is slightly different from the Neo 4 Platinum, but...
I chose the MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum/SLI because of its feature set, high praise from reviewers, & MSI's reputation. I especially like the built-in Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit audio on my motherboard -- it's the best on-board audio on any motherboard that I could find. Also, the on-board Marvell Gigabit Ethernet LAN slightly outperforms the on-board nForce4 SLI LAN.
My system booted up the first time, although I later ran into a problem with the motherboard. Read about it here. I had the option to return the defective MSI motherboard for another brand/model. I researched the DFI LANParty nF4 SLI-DR, but decided to get another MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum/SLI for the reasons listed above, plus I preferred the components/slots/headers layout of the MSI over the DFI.
I haven't used CoreCell or CoreCenter, so I can't comment on them. I've had no problems running an AMD Athlon 64 Venice (Rev E), running BIOS 3.0, but I haven't tried to overclock it yet. You'll have to get feedback on overclocking & the Neo 4 Platinum BIOS from others.
I installed the Thermalright XP-90 without any problems. You use the MSI backplate, which is glued on -- XP-90 doesn't include one. The stock MSI heatsink mounting bracket on the top of the motherboard will need to be replaced with the one supplied with the XP-90. Just remove the 2 screws holding the stock mounting bracket & it will come right off -- mine was not glued to the motherboard. When installing the XP-90's mounting bracket, make sure to use the screws supplied with the XP-90. I oriented the XP-90 to hang over my RAM slots, to provide extra cooling for the RAM.
I also have the OCZ EL Platinum Rev. 2 PC3200 RAM & it worked without problems in the recommended slots -- I used the first 2 slots.
I also looked at the K8N Neo4 Platinum, but chose the SLI version because of its better Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit audio & SLI features. Although I have no immediate plans to use 2 PCI-E graphics cards in SLI mode, it's nice to have that option open for the future.
    Hope this helps.

  • WHY DID I BUY CREAT

My experience since January of things not working as they should:
/ Bought 2 Audigy 2 ZS Platinum cards and needed to return 3, thats right on 3 occasions a new card did work.
2/ Speaker setting set at 5. but randomly reverts to 2..
    3/ CMSS settings randomly change.
4/ Inadvertenly stuck a microphone in the headset front panel socket and killed the card.
5/ Connected firewire cable nothing attached at the other end) to the rear 394 connector and killed the software, required complete re-installation.
6/ Tried to play a karaoke disc, utterly unbelievable result. Definitly a case of misleading advertising here.
7/ Cannot mute microphone according to manual because the controls listed there do not exist in the software.
8/ The manual is scanty to say the least.
9/ There is no CD-G support, read or write.
0/ The switch for dynamic/condensor microphone requires dissassembly of your computer to get to it.
/ The songlists which are in order A in the organiser are transferrred to order B when using the OPEN from PC Music Library control on the player.
2/ My diagnostic utility does not have a start button on it and therefore does not work.
3/ The connector on my Inspire 5. 5700 is very poor and requires that it and the cable not be moved or I loose connectivity.
4/ General instability of the software.
5/ If you turn karaopke on you loose the other effects but if you then turn karaoke off the other effects will not work until you turn off the sub effects in karaoke.
6/ Media Source program interferes with Norton Antivirus 2005 so I need to manually turn on antivirus protection every time I turn on.
Of things which struck me as strange:
/ The sub woofer on the 5700 is very cheap feeling and so-so quality as a general rule woofers need to be big and heavy.
2/ Editing and sorting the playlists is woeful.
3/ The connector between the card and header is huge, I have a plenty problems with cooling without something this big.
4/ If not using digital speakers you do have a line-out with full signal.
5/ There are no front panel RCA out.
6/ No internal or dedicated connection to something like a TV card.
The answer, probably because the Chinese do not have a comparable product yet.

Thanks for the input guys. I was using Audigy for years with no problem and upgraded to Audigy 2 primarirly because of karaoke support which really does not exist.
Its funny about the speakers I was thinking about another computer I have with Logitech speakers, it really shakes the place, almost as good as my KEFs I use for the TV. The Logitech subwoofer is full metal construction but have connector problems too, I had to bypass the connectors and solder in my own wire connections direct to the card outputs.
I think at the end of the day the quality of sound the Audigy deli'vers is quite acceptable for a computer sound system, my problem is the build and design quality, both hardware (connecting something which causes a crash) and software. They are not stable. We are after all talking about a US$200 card.
You could look at all the posts on this site and break it down roughly as 50% want drivers, 30% with small annoying software instability issues, 0% changing from onboard sound to PCI sound sound who do not know to disable the onboard sound in bios and 0% other. From that I would extrapolate that about 30-40% of people use the card for other than just straight gaming and thats when you run into softwrae issues I think.
And yes, after 3 returned cards I would have if I could have got the cash back.

  • Why did I buy a camera connector?

Still totally perplexed by the fact that I cannot group pictures into albums on the ipad, but must route them through itunes from my laptop.  (if I understand the advice I was given correctly)  Now I am thinking that the camera connector that I bought will be returned, because it does not do me any good to have a huge group of photos just sitting there on my ipod unsorted and the connector may not even work with a Kodak camera.

I believe you're correct, Kitoko. In my case it seems that downloading photos to the iPad from a SIM card will put them into an album of their own, but any photos I add by other means cannot be sorted once on the iPad. I can't believe that Apple created such an anemic app as "Photos" for the iPad.
It seems that they believe that third-party apps can take up the slack. If that's the case (as I admit it IS on a computer), why even bother to pre-install anything like Photos at all?
I hope that someone else weighs in on this, otherwise it's off to http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html for me!

  • Why did I buy insurance through Verizon?

My insurance plan (Assurion policy) through Verizon has a $199 deductible so my cracked iPhone 4 will cost $199 to replace yet if I just did an out of warranty repair through Apple it would cost the same??  Minus the cost of paying for the insurance????

Apple's out of warranty "repair" which pays for an exchange does not cover everything that is not covered under the warranty. If the iPhone was in pieces, it would not be exchanged.
And with Apple's out of warranty "repair" price, the warranty for the exchange is only 90 days.
Not sure if the same applies with Assurion's policy or if the policy pays for a new iPhone with a full one year warranty.

  • Why did I buy this iPod!!! Help Please!

So I bought an iPod, recieved today, about a week ago I tried to install iTunes to get all my music organized for it and have not gotten anything accomplished in a week.
    My Situation:
    1. Tried every fix I could on this forum, short of re-installing Win Xp Pro all together, this includes...
    a. Setting the appropriate admin rights.
    b. doing every step of the "all-steps in one" post
    c. trying to trick my comp. doing the "run as.." trick
    d. trying to install standalones of quictime, itunes, bonjour
    e. now I have an iPod set-up CD, still get the same problem
I always get a silent exit at Publishing Product Info on Quicktime, iTunes, iPod Setup, and Bonjour
I have done everything short of what will be my final step which is burning all my music onto a couple of DVDs and reformatting my HD and re-installing windows. This would take another week. Someone please put a light at the end of my tunnel before I put this iPod back on ebay where I got it from.

    Well it is complete!!! YAY!!
B, I did try zahni's(sp?) approach... no luck.
Toonz, I had the same issue witht he stand alone of Quicktime, and I am running the current ole32.dll that was mentioned in previous posts.
But all that aside, I have successfully installed both Quictime 7 and Itunes 5.0.1, unfortunately it took me about 5-6 hours to do so, LOL.
I have sdone almost everything in this forum and finally decided to give up and uninstall SP@, and it WORKED. Everything is installed and working and wonderful. WARNING: Hopefully it stays that way I have not yet re-installed SP2. That aside I am running iTunes 5.0.1 on XP Pro without, yes without, SP2. Technically that shouldn't work I don't think, because I thought iTunes for windows required SP2. Anyway, I have a iPod and a working software interface for it so I am happy for now...
On to re-installing SP2 with my fingers crossed.
Once again thanks for all you guys help and tons of it. So guinea pig or not, uninstalling SP2 worked for me.
    Cheers
