Why did my downloads to my Mac suddenly stop opening up after downloading?

I bought a MacBook Pro about a week ago and everything has been going great! Once I got past the Photoshop serial number issue, editing photos has been amazing compared to the pc I was using prior. I was able to download my add-ons and everything was working until all of a sudden when I went to download more photoshop software, my downloads stopped opening up. It is not just the downloads from a certain source, it is any download, .dmg and pse. Any ideas?? Thank you!!

Gwenmary considering that you were previously receiving messages to input a serial number it sounds like you are facing connectivity difficulties. The other part of the upgrade message was a warning that once you upgraded you would no longer be able to open the library with the old version which is exaclty what you did and what happened when you choose to continue
The iphoto library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto. Your photo library will not be readable by previous versions of iphoto after the upgrade. The upgrade process may take several minutes depending on the number of photos in the library. Cancel or upgrade.
So now your choices are to not use iPhoto with the previous version using it onky with the newer version, restore your backup from before you did this upgrade or purchase iPhoto Library Manager and use it to rebuild the library using the older version of iPhoto (instructions are on their web site) thereby downgrading it (without projects)

Have a look in System Preferences -> Sound -> Output.
Plug the speakers out. Do you now see "Internal Speaker" as the name from the Built-in device? If you replug your speakers, is it now changing to "Headphone?

You can disable the Adobe Reader plugin in Firefox (Tools > Add-ons > Plugins) and use the external Adobe Reader application or Preview application instead.

Good timing! Oh well, at least you shouldn't have to update again for a while. It will be nice kickstarting your Mac with the very latest System Update knowing any hiccups from 10.8.2 would have been ironed out if they were going to affect your workflow at all.

From the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder.
Type /private/etc/launchd.conf in the text field, then press Return.
If the file is on your Mac, a window opens with the file you searched for already selected. Drag the file to the Trash.

Select each item in the list below, starting with /Applications/Genieo.
Choose Edit > Copy.

Does it not work either way? Sending and receiving? Did you check the settings and make sure that nothing has changed? If you can receive email, but not send it, check the outgoing mail server setting. Make sure that your username and password are in there.
Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Your email account>Account>Outgoing mail server - tap the server name next to SMTP and check in the primary server and make sure your username and password are entered and correct - even if it says that the password is optional.

Have you run the iPhoto Library Upgrader? You need to direct it to the location of your old iPhoto Library by clicking the "Choose Library" button in the lower right corner of the panel you are seeing when the upgrade starts.

What makes a file open automatically after download? I'm trying to stop it. I don't know whether Firefox or Sumatra controls this.

When I downloaded a .pdf file, it opens automatically after download. I want to put it back to where I have to click on it in the download window in order to open it.
This happens with every .pdf file I download.
I am using Sumatra 1.5.1 to view pdf files.
