Why did my entire screen get overtaken by a swirly rainbow?

I believe my computer was in sleep mode when this happened:
I saw the entire screen covered by what looked like either a crazy rainbow or a piece of brightly colored modern abstract art -- large arcs or swirls of oranges, yellows, etc. After a few seconds, the "artwork" disappeared and the screen went back to normal. Pretty as it was, this is still scary! What could it mean?

Boy, you're right! I feel dopey but probably shouldn't, since I myself had never checked off that screen saver and never once saw it on my screen in almost four years of using this computer. But when I went to Preferences and looked at the various screen savers, I recognized one of them as the culprit, almost like the witness in the movies who views a bunch of mug shots and says, "That's the guy who did it! I'm 100% certain!" Since my computer has been having a few issues lately, I was half suspecting the rainbow was a real one from heaven, a gentle hint that my Powerbook might be headed there soon.

Yahoo is better than Google right now. While using Google as a search engine and logged into Yahoo-mail the page elevator (up& down) bar actually freezes, a dead giveaway that something is up. So far nothing I do will stop the page elevator from freezing when I'm using the Google search engine. I either have to use the Yahoo or Bing search engines.
MacPro w/OS X ver 10.7.5 & Norton Internet Security 5 for Mac ver 12.4 (73) / I update Norton security at least 3-times a day. I thing I get the bug when I log onto my Yahoo Email and go through my emails. When problems get constant I Reset Safari then run flush to burn flash cookies. What else can I do?
Yahoo wanted $58-bucks for a consult, that’s ********. You would think Yahoo would want to be advised of ongoing Yahoo Searchengine / Yahoo Email problems, and want to help there users with ongoing problems. Sure they will help me with their problem for $58, and probably even suggest even less than what I am already doing on my own.

It's hard to tell from your description what is going on, but try this first.
Quit Safari. If it won't quit in the usual way, select
 ▹ Force Quit...
from the menu bar, then select Safari from the list and press return.
Relaunch Safari by holding down the shift key and clicking its icon in the Dock. That will stop the bad page from reloading automatically. From the menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove all website data
to get rid of any cookies or other data left by the server. Open your Downloads folder and delete anything you don't recognize.
Also get rid of the useless Norton crapware, after backing up all data.

Why did my iPhone photos get deleted and can I recover them?

An entire album's worth of photos were deleted and I want to know why and if I can recover them.
I have an iPhone 4S on iOS 6, iTunes 10, PC user. Under "photo albums" I created a new album called "job photos" which I've been moving photos to as needed. Today I took a bunch of picutures at work with my iPhone, and before I got to my computer I moved them over from the "camera roll" to the "job photos" album, then deleted the originals in "camera roll". Everything worked fine until I synced the phone to iTunes.
Up until today I've been syncing a folder on my PC with a bunch of photos to my iPhone. In order to save space on the phone I unchecked the "sync" box to stop syncing those photos. After the phone was done syncing not only was my PC album gone but all the photos in my "job photos" album were gone too. ***?
Why did this happen and is there a way to recover the photos I just lost? My iPhone wasn't backed up so I wouldn't be able to do a backup recovery. Please help.

You lost the photos because the actual data is in Camera Roll. When you see pix in albums, it is by virtue of pointers to the actual storage in Camera Roll. Otherwise, you would be using up storage by creating albums. SO, do not delete from Camera Roll until you have copied to your PC.

TS1382 why did my ipod screen lose contrast and become barely readable?

My ipod classic has been kept connected to power and to my stereo. Yesterday morning I found the screen to be washed out, so bright you can barely read it. Changing the brightness setting helps but doesn't return it to the original state. I do not find a contrast setting. Is there a way to correct this and does anyone know why this may have happened?

Thanks. The backlight is still working and the screen is just barely readable (it seems as if I could adjust the contrast I would be OK). I did a hard reset and have been putting off a retore because I have not backed up all my playlists and I am afraid of tinkering too much and lose what I have. The ipod is maybe three years old. The software is up to date. If it were a hardware problem wouldn't the whitening be gradual? This happened, literally, overnight. Could the power source for the charger be the culprit? I live on a boat and the power is 110 inverted from a 50 hz generator. Guests (I have a charter boat) with ipads have noticed odd behavior when they plug in with the ipad charger. They seem to be able to charge their ipads with my ipod charger with no problem. Could be no connection (also, my husband's cell phone whited out a couple of days ago..may all be a coincidence as that phone has a few years on it, as well)...just thought I'd throw that info in the pot in case you know of any connections between charging and hardware malfunctions. Oh no! This is not what we like to hear. I want to make sure that we are able to get your phone back up and running. Is there any kind of physical or liquid damage to the device? Can you try to press and hold the Power and Volume Down buttons until the device powers off then release (approximately 10 seconds). Please keep us posted.

An account's balance should not have been affected by changing your password. You've tried logging out and back into your account on your phone and/or computer's iTunes and seeing if it then shows, and checked your account's purchase history e.g. you didn't have any auto-renewing subscriptions or pre-orders due that might have taken the money : See your purchase history in the iTunes Store ?

As in a visible or audible crack? If visible, either it was dropped, bumped into, you pushed the screen too far back (beyond the point it gives its own resistance), or the last time it was opened for an upgrade, the hinge was not properly tightened. Traveling with your machine "asleep" instead of shut down has the potential of having the machine wake up in travel, thus overheating the machine, and potentially the heat could damage the screen if that happened enough times. Hence why I recommend always shutting down before traveling with them. Computer bags provide ample protection against bumps if they cushion on all sides and nothing else is in them, including pencil lead, and other small items. Drops you have less of a chance of surviving, although the machines have at least some resiliency as my few drops have proven. I would not try to force it though! Note if none of the actions describe anything you have done, and it has been always in your possession, maybe you have a defective machine from the factory. The newer the machine the better a case you have for arguing with AppleCare. Note, AppleCare will not cover accidents.
If it is an audible cracking sound, it may be you are starting to push it back too far, or the hinge is tightened too tight, and it just loosened a bit.
Early MacBooks also failed from a bad mixture in their batteries, back in 2006 and 2007 and the batteries swelling, damaging the housing of the computer as well if not noticed in time, and that could create a cracking situation. Note: A MacBook is different from a MacBook Pro and a MacBook Air. The MacBook was a consumer model before the Air, gradually replaced by the Air. The Pro was the professional model.

Is there a file/folder called iPhoto Library inside your Pictures folder?
If so, open iPhoto with the option key held down and point the program to the iPhoto Library inside yur Pictures folder.

Why did my Apple TV get so slow?

My Apple TV was working great for an extended period of time; within the last two weeks download times for a 22 minute TV show have taken up to 3 hours. Netflix can barely stream at 240i without buffering every few seconds and updates are impossible as they are interrupted and fail to install. I first thought this was my ISP as my apartment building has been known to get poor service, but when connecting via ethernet the Apple TV works much, much better.
I thought perhaps the location of the Apple TV may have been too far from my router, so I attempted running Netflix and HBO Go off my laptop and XBox 360, both located within 6 inches of my Apple TV, and both worked perfectly fine. Lastly, I ran into similiar slow download speeds with my Apple TV when attempting to connect on another network in a different building. Has anyone else experienced this? Could it be a hardware issue?

To see a current status of your network go to istumbler or similar. Look for signal strength, noise, nearby networks.

Are you sure that you entered the exact Apple ID and Password, that you formerly used, to access  Discussions?
The Apple IDs were usually an Email address. And not the same as an Alias used in  Discussions.

If your original acquisition is HDV and H.264 the Apple Pro Res 422 is fine, you wont gain anything going with HQ or 4444.
Your H.264 files got much larger because H.264 is heavily compressed and not designed for editing, it is a 'distribution' codec. It is best to convert to a I-frame codec such as Apple Pro Res for editing.
Your next problem may be mixing two different frame rates. The Canon 5D records at 30.0 frames per second and the A1 records at 29.97. I use Cinema Tools to conform (slo-mo) my 5d clips to a friendly frame rate. You need to realize audio will not stay in sync over long durations with this conform process.
