Why did my iMessage on my Macbook Pro randomly stop working? How can I fix it?

The iMessage on my Macbook randomly stopped sending and recieving messages 3 days ago. I tried signing out and signing back in and then it showed all my contacts offline. It also keeps saying Bonjour but I have Bonjour turned off. How can I fix this?

Solution may be found if you search in the "More Like This" section over in the right column.

please help, my macbook pro is super hot, how can i fix it.

I am guessing you have just bought a new macbook pro,  I did the same thing when I first unpacked mine.
You will get asked if you are using it on your lap, because they think that you are blocking the vents.
the macbook pro will get really hot around the E R T and F keys and  I O P and L keys and the metal strip between the keyboard and the screen.
I have found the graphics accelerator heats the machine up more than the actualy processor.
you should report it to apple care before your 90 days is up, they may or may not send you to a genius booking.  Just incase you have issues with your machine later due to the heat buildup early on, that way they have a log of the problem.
My macbook pro runs alot cooler than it did when i first got it, but still gets hot on heavy usage
You shouldnt really worry unless it shuts itself down as then you have some serious problems, when it gets hot u should be able to hear the fans running and it will prolly keep the temp aroun 101-104 c under heavy load.   If you can't hear the fans, shut it down and take it back to the store.
    Hope this helps you

Press the Power button for about 10 seconds to shutdown the computer. Wait a couple of minutes then restart. If it restarts OK, then immediately repair the hard drive:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.

Restart Mac and try again.  If you are still having trouble, see Apple's http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
(Over time, Apple has changed the built-in camera's name on newer Macs from "iSight" to "FaceTime" and then to "FaceTime HD."  Regardless of the name of your Mac's built-in camera, the same info and troubleshooting applies.)

  • IMessage on MacBook Pro Randomly Stopped Working

So I recently purchased a Macbook Pro 15" for college. I set everything up and it was working perfect until a few days ago. When I try to send a message on my macbook the person's name I am sending it to is blue for a second but quickly changes to red but I know they are using iMessage because I am iMessaging them off of my iPhone. Also, when I try to facetime someone from my macbook it works perfectly and I can receive facetimes too. I honestly have no idea what could have happened and I feel like I have tried every single fix for this issue.
Some of the fixes I tried:
Logging out of iMessage on iPhone and then logging back in
Deleting preference files (This is a huge confusion for me, I simply don't have the files. Ex:  com.apple.imservice.iMessage
I've tried editing the preferences on my macbook and iphone
If anyone of you have any ideas or a fix, I am willing to try everything at this point
Oh also, I recently switched from my 5c to a 4s because water damage completely ruined my 5c. Not sure if that could be an issue

    Hi,
    Open Messages.
Go to the Preferences > General Section.
Tick the line "When I Quit, Set the Status to Off line"
Now Quit the App  This will stop the IMAgent app for trying to re-open the app if it "hears" incoming messages on any of the services you log in to.
Open the Activity Monitor (Applications/Utilities) and find the imagent item in the list (in will be in lower case and will have no icon)
Highlight and use the Quit button top left and confirm Force Quit.
It is likely to restart straight away (but as the Messages app is Quit it should leave it alone and free app access to the .plist.
    Try deleting the .plist now.
    NOTES.
Messages is a multi- windowed App and closing a  Window using the Red Button on one of them does not quit the app.
you have to use the Menu item or Click and hold the DOCK item to see the Quit Option.
There is no indication in any of the Windows when the iMessages account is active and Logged in.
If the Buddy lists (AIM, Jabber and Yahoo plus Bonjour) are active but not shown they are still logged in and IMAgent comes into play (As do the com.apple.iChat.(service name).plists).

  • The sound on my macbook air has stopped working, how do I fix this? :(

It was working fine, suddenly there was a sudden static noise and it just stopped working completely.
i have tried restarting the macbook but nothing seems to work..

try resetting your PRAM. also what do you see on the screen when you change the volume? does it like like it normally does when changing the volume?

  • The sound on my macbook air isn't working how can i fix this

i was on line and i went to watch a video and the sound wasnt working and it still wont work everything is on but its not working out

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Some times simply quitting any and all sound Apps (iTunes, QuickTime, any audio player) restarting often solves the problem.  An SMC reset might also work.
If the laptop went to sleep with headphones or external speakers plugged into the headphone jack loss of audio on wake can result. In future do not sleep with headphones or speakers attached.

"Your photo library is either in use by another application or has become unreadable"
    Offered solution doesn't work:
Shut down and restart your computer, and then open iPhoto again. If the problem persists, try rebuilding your photo library. To do this, quit iPhoto, and then reopen it while keeping the Option and Command keys pressed. You can also try restoring your photo library from a backup.
I have already copied my photographs to the a library manager but when I tried to reuse iphoto and import the photos back into iphoto, it would not let me.
I can't download photographs from my iphone or my digital camera.
Any ideas on how I can solve this problem?
There is a possibility that when I went to update applications that I started to install Mavericks which I then interrupted and cancelled. I am not definite that this caused this problem but it was at about the same time as when this problem started.
    Many thanks,
    Ed

I have already copied my photographs to the a library manager but when I tried to reuse iphoto and import the photos back into iphoto, it would not let me.
You can't "copy" your photos to the "library manager", there is just no way to any such thing.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • I want to remove the monitor from my 17" Macbook Pro 2008 to use as an external for my Macbook Pro 15" 2012. How can I convert lvds to Thunderbolt and power the monitor?

I want to remove the monitor from my 17" Macbook Pro 2008 to use as an external for my Macbook Pro 15" 2012. How can I convert lvds to Thunderbolt and power the monitor?

It's almost impossible.  The new iMacs have a Target Display Mode, but it's built to do that.  Without ripping your screen out, finding an acceptable power supply, frame, and whatever electronics to convert a Thunderbolt signal to the screen, the cost will be much larger than buying a cheaper HiDef monitor that runs with an HDMI to Thunderbolt cable to your MacBook 15.  In fact, you can sell your 17" MBP for a lot of money, unless it's broken or something, buying you a really sweet monitor.
By the way, I found your answer by searching this forum.  I would suggest using the search function here in the futuere.

i want arabic and engilish keyboard in MacBook Pro with retina display how can i order that ??, i want arabic and engilish keyboard in MacBook Pro with retina display how can i order that ??

If you haven't found an answer yet. I know for a fact that this can be ordered directly from Apple at no extra cost
You can either ask for this when buying a new MBP at a "physical" Apple store, or as in my case in the UK the online Apple store allows such keyboard configuration in addition to 3 other languages like Spanish, German and French

Don't use any cleaning spray. Wipe with a moist but not wet microfiber cloth.

  • My Macbook pro 17" stopped working

my Macbook pro 17" stopped working I was surprised that Apple told me they no longer have support the 17" Macbook pro

That may be discontinued. I can't find a reference anywhere saying if it's still supported or not. The best I can offer is this site where you put in the serial number. It provides all the details on the machine, including whether it's still supported or not. What's wrong with it?

  • Macbook pro speakers stopped working, earbuds fine

My macbook pro speakers stopped working, but the earbuds work fine.  Tried restart and preferences.  Volume icon is grayed out, except when earbuds are plugged in.  What am I missing?

Look in the audio output port.  If there is a red light, the internal switch is stuck.  Insert the earphone jack a few times.  Blow into the port as hard as you can.  Use a toothpick or something similar and jiggle it inside the port.  If no success, bring the MBP to the Apple store genius bar.
    Ciao.
If there is no red light, try a PRAM reset:

  • Elements 11 on macbook pro has stopped working and i can't re-install as its no longer available?

Elements 11 on macbook pro has stopped working and i can't re-install as its no longer available?

    Further info:
    Running on a macbook pro.
Purchased through the apple app store.
Worked fine prior to mavricks update.
I have read where others have had this issue, the general response has been that they have had no support from adobe in resolving the problem. One guy said he managed to get issued a new download of the softwear that works fine with mavricks.
so there is a fix avalible but for some reason its not been a general update for all customers with premier elements 11?
