Why did my new ipod just erase completly?

I have a new video iPod and after about 2 months of use, I connected it to my Power Book and Itunes told me it couldn't read the contents of the ipod and that I needed to restore to factory settings. Then when I disconected the ipod...all the songs (weeks of work) were gone. I had to restore it to get iTunes to recognize it. I have no idea what I did or why this happened. Since I can't archive my songs (no space) what do I do to prevent this in the future? I don't know what I want to bother...after all this work it can just erase everything!

I would recommend loking here. Though i havent had this problem. It might be good to look here first off.

IKR! But u an order a connector that can plug nto any old speakers and then connect to your charger port and it will play music!

Radiation, global warming maybe... Really don't know, the time should update when you connect to the internet. You could also try resetting and see if it corrects. Are you sure the clock your comparing with is set to the correct time? Good luck, Cheers.

I have 2 ipod touches. My old one I use for my kids, and I bought a new one almost a year a go that I have my personal things on.
I was trying to sync some music on the new one today but I got a message that the ios on the ipod need to be updated and could not be synced without the updates. I then got a message that itunes on my pc needed to be updated as well.
I was upset, because I simply wanted to do a sync with some music. I agreed to the download & after 30 minutes, it said it was done, but all my photos, apps, background, everything form my new ipod was gone, and the background from my old ipod with all it's apps are now in its place. In addition, It still will not sync any songs & has the original songs on the ipod. What is going on? How can I fix this? I need all the apps, notes, photos, ect that I had on the new one. It does me no good to have 2 ipods with the same things. If that were the care, I would have just kept sharing one with my kids.
I strongly dislike the new ios & itunes also, they are not user friendly. Can I just revert back to what was on it this morning?
I would appreciate any help in this matter.Thanks!

Likely because when the replacement was refurbished, 4.3.5 was the latest iOS.
It is up to you if you want to update to iOS 5.1.1.

- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

New iPod, Just Froze, Won't Reset

Hi I recently got a replacement iPod from Circuit City and I plugged it in my PC to transfer my songs and iTunes didn't open. I clicked on iTunes manually and it still didn't open. So, I couldn't unplug it. Well I finally waited long enough and I just unplugged it and finally iTunes shows up AFTER I unplugged it. When I did unplug my iPod without unmounting it from iTunes, it froze on the "Do Not Disconnect Screen". I tried resetting it but nothing happens at all, and I checked to see if the hold switch was on, which it wasn't. There were no sounds coming from the Hard Drive or anything really. I tried plugging it back in but nothing happened.

try to switch the hold switch to on and off... after doing it like twice, hold menu and enter at the same time. If it doesnt work try again. If it still doesnt work, let the battery die then recharge it.

My iPod just erased itself!

My 20GB iPod is almost 3 years old. Today, I had it plugged into my Altec Lansing inMotion speakers as usual, when it suddenly stopped playing. To my horror, when I looked at the screen, the contents were completely wiped out. I've only been hanging on to the unit because it has a bunch of downloaded music that wasn't backed up anywhere else.
I do have two newer iPods. Should I cut my losses and let this one die a happy death, or is it worth trying to save it?

I've been trying to sync my entire library to a new iPod but nothing is working. Even dragging and dropping individual songs won't work. What am I doing wrong??

plug device into computer- open itunes - click name of device- click music tab- uncheck sync music at top- apply at bottom. now check sync music at top -entire librarty- apply at bottom
if no result right click on a few songs and create aac version- sync again
