Why Did My Thread Get Locked?

I know I'm new here but can someone tell me why my thread got locked regarding the problems I have been having with upgrading my high speed internet?  It says it's being "resolved in a private support area."  But no one has contacted me to provide support.  *sigh* Why can't I just get a straight answer?

1: DSL speeds can be provisioned often times on the spot. Verizon has automated systems which allow people with the right access to pick a speed, the PVC and DSLAM and any related equipment will provision for the speed and your line will re-synchronize once the DSLAM has the new configuration pushed. The issue with why Verizon takes forever to change the speed in many areas, such as mine where it takes a week is due to the billing system most likely. Until Billing updates their records network doesn't update the profile you're on, that way you are not seen as getting "Free speed boosts."
2: Bandwidth on demand often comes with business connections, notably Fiber as the speed can be kicked up or down on demand and billing adjusted on the fly. Verizon Business has such a system up and they can do such a thing without killing the connection first (ADSL2+ has methods as well, same with FiOS!).
3: Service changes should never result in a disconnect. If a disconnect occurs it needs to be resolved promptly as no one should be pulling your line from a DSL-enabled card or unprovisioning your line. Now if your line will not come up because they set the speed much too high and bursts of noise are knocking the DSLAM and modem offline before they fully synch, that could be another thing but the two pieces of equipment should train at lower speeds, not retry a bad speed if noise clears.

    I went through updates on my three newest Macs this week.  As I stated I'm talking about iTunes 10.5.1 (42).  I am checking for updates now and I see 10.5.2 is now available.  I'll know in about 15 minutes if this issue is fixed or not.
    15 minutes later:
    I must have updated this PPC G5 a day or two before iTunes 10.5.2 came out.  I was able to update to 10.5.2 (11) and this copy/paste bug is fixed.  I'm happy again.

    I'll guess at what you're on about:
    Couple of things to try:
    Restart your mac and try launch iPhoto again.
    If that fails:
    Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
    Look there for a file called ‘iPhoto’Lock.data or similar. Drag it to the Desktop. Make no other changes. Start iPhoto. Does that help?
    If not: Where is your iPhoto Library stored? If it's on an External Disk, what format is that?

  • Why did Apple iMovie get rid of chapter markers?

    Why would Apple ever get rid of chapter markers in iMovie? That is a really ignorant decision because that's one of the reasons that made iMovie great before. I know there are ways around it, but why would I want to export to another Apple app or a third-party app to add chapters when I can do it in iMovie (pre-'08 version).
    It's such a hassle now. If you're making any kind of a movie that isn't going to be played in QT or a computer where you can easily click on the play head - one would want chapter markers to skip ahead or move to a different section of your demo reel or whatever.

    I disagree, it is not unfair to evaluate iMovie '08 as done here by previous posters:
    iLife '08 is sold as an upgrade to '06, so as a customer, I believe to rightfully expect an upgrade and not a downgrade in many features.
    I do agree though, that iMovie '08 does include a lot of easy to use features and is perfect for beginners or users who just want to put their files into a sharable environment, with little effort to make things look good.
    BUT: If you did any serious videoediting with iMovie '06, then this program is defnitely a downgrade in terms of options and control. As said, many of the sharing options are easier in '08 but even though a little more complex, managable in '06. Possibly I may also be untypical for not using YouTube as a preferred platform for sharing. Websharing on my personal site and DVDs both have the same priority. And I find better options for my purposes in '06.
    I've used '06 for documentation projects up to 4 hours in length. These are too cumbersome in '08, chapter markers being one important factor to me, besides integration with iDVD.
    I find the concept of '08 ok for smaller or less demanding projects, so I gave it a try. I was not happy with the result. Though this was before the last major update and I have not again used the program since.
    My personal consequence: I will keep an eye on how Apple decides to go on with their consumer movie software. Started switching to Final Cut Express, for now mainly using iMovie '06 and Norrkross Movie. The latter two being my preferred combination on my PB G4.
    In my personal opinion: Apple hast taken away a lot of the flexibility the old version offered. I think it would be a better step for many, to step up to Final Cut Express or other.

    That has been an ongoing issue with "unlocked" iPhones from CarPhones and the place you mention...the iPhones are not unlocked in the true sense.  They are setup to lock to the first sim inserted for activation.  There really isn't away around this, either.  Only the Apple store sells truly unlocked iPhones.

  • Why did i just get an error from firefox 4 saying that someone was trying to push an update to firefox to harm my system?

    I had firefox minimized while it was downloading a file and i was working in another application and a box came from firefox titled "Software update" which would normally mean firefox was going to update or needed to restart. but instead the box said " Someone is trying to trick firefox into accepting an insecure update. Please contact your network provider and seek help.". Now this has me puzzled as i am the only user of this laptop, and isnt mozilla the only people that can send an update to firefox? I've also been having some other problems as far as speed and plug-ins. mainly quicktime, last time i tried to launch a quicktime video in firefox. it wouldnt work. also when i had the previous firefox, i had more ram then i do with 4. i mean i used to with just firefox 3 running i would have 2545 or at least 2500MB of free ram and that would be with at least three or more tabs open. now i have with firefox 4 only running around 1600mb or free ram and nothing has changed with my system other than firefox.

    Oops, sorry about that. I already had wondered why I had missed this thread.
    It is best to do a clean reinstall and remove the entire Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\) in this case to remove all leftover files.
    Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the ''Firefox Profile Folder'' and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • Why did I start getting an initial popup window saying "If you started this, press Continue"? The last time this happened a nasty new virus had attached itself to my computer and it crashed.

    Usually when I click on my Firefox icon it opens without any problem....however, several months ago when I clicked on it a small screen in the middle of my screen popped up asking me to click on the box "Continue" if I had initiated the action. When I did, my computer froze and had been taken over by a new virus (which cost me $90 to get rid of even though I have McAfee). Just a couple of days ago the same small screen popped up and due to my past experience instead of clicking on "Continue" I've been clicking the tab that says "Cancel". Firefox still loads and I've been able to navigate. However, today while I was on it started to go really slow so I tried to shut down the browser screen by clicking the X on the top right corner...came up with a black screen and message at the top "Firefox not responding". I like using Firefox more than Explorer, but may need to change if this keeps happening.

    I upgraded. Events that cover multiple dates got separated into separate dates, based on dates. So a week's vacation in Santa Barbara no longer is one event, but seven.
    Some Events did not get hacked up, but many did. It appears that older photo Events got hacked up, newer ones did not.
