Why did they break data tethering in 4.5 on the 8830 WE?
Hi All,
Just wondering - why did the BB gods decide that tethering needed to be broken in v 4.5 of the device software? Was it far too convenient to have a 2-3 year old phone that worked, and give us the free OS update?
I've tried every version of 4.5 - tethering is broken on all of them. Error "Remote Computer not responding". Looking at it on a port monitor - the device sends back a "NO CARRIER" right after it dials #777 ("ATDT#777"). The same phone and same PC works swimmingly when used the phone in 4.2.2.
So what's the deal? I can't imagine how it could be a carrier issue.
Sorry dude, I know for a fact it works. RIM (or no one else) has removed tethering from OS 4.5 for ANY devices, including the 8830.
The fact that you don't have it working, and your carrier is less than stellar at customer service and quite frankly is lying to you, doesn't mean it is 'broken'.
If it were 'broken', you would hear a loud cry across the land. The 8830 is still one of the premier corporate devices on the market (being replaced by the Tour now). If users on OS 4.5 couldn't tether, more than just you and MTS would know about it.

iOS 5 used to allow Airplay between iPad (WiFi) and Apple TV (Ethernet) as long as they were on the same network, i.e. connected to the same wired/wireless router. In iOS 6, now both the iPad and the Apple TV have to be on the same network and both have to be connected using WiFi ? Why did they change this ? Means that the iPad and the Apple TV box both have to be in range of the wireless router when this wasn't a restriction before. Apple TV could be anywhere as long as it was connected to the same wireless router via ethernet cable. Seems like an unnecessary thing to restrict.
I have found with AppleTV that it is the IPV6 on the computer you want to access is the problem. The issue is that Homegroup on Win 7 or Win 8 requires IPV6 to work, but AppleTV won't work with IPV6. (So maybe double check you have IPV6 turned off)
So you have to make a choice - Homegroup or AppleTV.... but you can't have both, until Apple brings ATV up to date. (crazy that it does not recognise IPV6 - c'mon Apple!)
You can set up sharing individually in Win 7 or 8 and have the ATV access files that way.
Having said that, there is always the exception.. I have an old HP home server running Win8 and it services ATV - but is part of the Homegroup... have no idea why it works on both, but no other machine on the home network will talk to both ATV and Homegroup at the same time! -
I took photos on my iPhone on yesterday and they all saved. I looked at my photos the next day and they were still there. I took more photos and now none of the last photos that I took in the last two days are there. Why did they not save? Can I get them back? My storage was not full. Close all open apps by double-tapping the home button, then swiping up and off the screen with the app window (not the smaller icon).
Reset your device: hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until the screen goes black and you see the Apple, then let go. (No data loss) -

Correct. When you purchase devices, they would have stated the OS they needed to work, on the box. This can be overlooked, but it is very important to check when purchasing.
You current OS, is so old, that they technology build into the new devices, is not something your OS understands. It didn't exist when your OS was created, and therefore you need to upgrade the OS to work with the newer technology of these devices.
10.6 software is not downloadable. You must purchase a DVD disc. You can order it from the on-line apple store

I have found that at least 3 music videos that I had previously purchased are not available in my I-tunes music video list. I paid for them over a year ago, why are they not accessible, and why did they just disappear from my lists?
Have you deleted anything from your iTunes library ? Have you checked to see if they are still on your computer, but not listed in your iTunes library ?
If not then do they show in the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage for redownloading ? If they don't show there and others do and they are still in your country's store, then check to see if they are hidden : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4919
If they are no longer in your store for redownloading (or you aren't in a country where music videos can be redownloaded) then you will need to copy them back from your backup of your library/downloads. -

And now without "Open In New Tab" we are supposed to drill down to our bookmarks for every tab we want to open? FF-mobile is almost useless without "Open In New Tab". Why did they remove Weed Firm from the app store. Its not the app stores fault that the parents let their kids have an iphone and didnt controll what they download if you dont want your kid playing stuff like that dont buy them an iphone. Their is still a community of users who would like to play the game but cannot because it has been removed. If your child is so dumb that they have to imitate what ever they play dont get them age rated stuff. There is such things as parental locks. So why should a community of users suffer because of a few.

Scrolling - why did they change it?
Why did they reverse touch pad scrolling with OS X Lion? The old way seemed perfectly reasonable and intuitive. I guess I can get used (eventually) the reverse, but why the change? Instead of using my fingers to move my window up and down over the doucment, I now use my fingers to move the document up and down below my window. I really don't like it. Did they ask anybody before they made this change?

(sort of like Rambo, only different)Because they are trying to do away with the scroll bar on the right side of document windows. The old way the "scroll device" was conceptually linked to the indicator in the scroll bar so to scroll down you were trying to move the indicator (in the scroll bar) downward by pulling your finger towards yourself.
The new way is doing away with the scroll bar and linking the "scroll device" to the document itself. So now when you want to scroll down you do it by pushing the document upward (by pushing your finger away from yourself). -

go back to your computer and when you sync it, uncheck your ringtones...then after it syncs like that...RE sync it again with each ringtone checked..It should be back on your phone. I had the same problem!!!

I love the new version of Grid view but some of the other changes feel like they still need some fine tuning. And I miss cover flow even if I didn't use it that often...
You can restore much of the look & feel of the previous version with these shortcuts:
Ctrl+B to turn on the menu bar
Ctrl+S to turn on the sidebar (your device should be listed here as before)
Ctrl+/ to turn on the status bar
Click the magnifying glass top right and untick Search Entire Library to restore the old search behaviour
Use View > Hide <Media Kind> in the cloud or Edit > Preferences > Store and untick Show iTunes in the cloud purchases to hide the cloud items. The second method eliminates the cloud status column (and may let iTunes start up more quickly)
Should you still feel the need to roll back to iTunes 10.7 first download a copy of the 32 bit installer or 64 bit installer as appropriate, uninstall iTunes and suppporting software, i.e. Apple Application Support & Apple Mobile Device Support. Reboot. Restore the pre-upgrade version of your library database as per the diagram below, then install iTunes 10.7.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to scan the media folder and catch up with any changes made since the backup file was created.

When I bought my Mac they gave me a free hp printer. My mac is a 10.7 and the printer is for 10.6 and below.... so why did they give me this printer? Can I use it somehow or should I ask for a different one that is compatible with my computer?

No, that's not necessary.
You Mac most likely sat in inventory before it was sold so the latest drivers were not installed.

I can not read the minds of the Adobe engineers or Marketing people. Nesting a sequence is not much more trouble than applying an effect.
If you are creating a PIP, then a nested sequence is probably your solution. If you are not nesting, scale and crop, then put a white matte under it.
This is not a great place for asking questions that have no answers outside of internal Adobe decisions. This is, however, a great place to get workarounds. -

Why is there no duplicate search like there is in itunes? Why did they block the iphoto folder so I can't use other programs to find dupes? Why do I have to have another set of pictures every time I update to the next ilife?

Because there are many reasons why users might want duplicates. But if you have a duplicate issue try using Duplicate Annihilator.
