Why didn't Apple offer a 2TB or 2.2TB Fusion Drive in the 2012 iMac?

Surely Apple knew before marketing the new iMac that the 3TB HD would not work with Bootcamp, so why did they not provide at the outset a 2TB solution and place in BIG bold lettering the incompatibility between 3TB drives and Bootcamp? I've been a customer since '94 and been made to feel like a king until now when I'm made to feel like the king's fool. I've been put through so much grief (and after a five week wait) and for no good reason. Now waiting for my return to go through so I can order a unit with 1TB HD and quickly have to resort to external storage solutions.
Please offer a 2TB solution ASAP!

Thank you, varjak. I made my comment at apple.com after your direction, but they promise no response. I've not seen a single discussion where somebody suggested a 2TB solution, either. Maybe the problem will get solved without my belly aching, but I sure was needing to say something in hopes for a little relief; at least to get it off my chest.

Why doesn't apple offer a viewer/file browser for iCloud Drive?
Dropbox, Microsoft’s OneDrive, and Google Drive all have viewer apps that let you see and manage what’s in the drive.  The only way you can do that with iCloud Drive is through a web browser.  Very frustrating and backward.

I found a possible band-aid for our problem:
    1) On iOS 8 Device, go to Safari / iCloud.com
    2) Once you get to iCloud.com, you'll notice it won't give you the option to log in.
    3) Tap on the URL bar (this should bring up your bookmarks bar and Frequently Visited Sites)
    4) Tap, Hold, and Slide your finger down on that section (this will reveal two options: (1) Add to Favorites, and (2) Request Desktop Site
    5) Tap Request Desktop Site
Log in as usual, and you can now access iCloud Drive with your PDFs and other documents like any other computer.
I too am disappointed as I was looking forward to view PDF's shared between my Macbook and my iPad, but I think this should work until Apple comes out with a solution.

why didn't apple make message like iRealsms app?

Apple will not & never has/does respond to questions like yours, so don't waste your time using the Feedback form to ask.
However, if you have a suggestion, you can use that form to make your suggestion. However, Apple will not respond.

  • Why didn't apple cal the new Ipad the iPad 3???

Why didn't apple cal the new Ipad the iPad 3???

Apple has not explained why, so nobody here could tell you for sure. Perhaps to keep it in line with naming polices for computers (all iMacs are iMacs, all MacBook Airs are MacBook Airs) rather than the iPhone.

  • Fusion Drive on a 2010 iMac with 2tb HDD & 256gb SSD

    Hi,
well basicailly the title says it all!
I have a 2010 iMac with the 256gb SSD and 2TB HDD which to me seems like it would be great option for the Fusion Drive...
Does anyone have any ideas on how I could make the drives work like the new Fusion Drive?
I've seen the Macworld Tutorial on a DIY Fusion Drive but i'm still not sure if doing that will work in the same way as the preinstalled 2012 iMac Fusion Drive... I know that Mac OSX will treat the combined drives as one, but in terms of moving files depending upon their usage is another matter.
If the Macworld step by step is followed will Mountain Lion handle frequently used files / apps like the apple presentation states or will it just use the drives as one and not increase the performance of my machine?
Any help on this would be much appreciated, especially if anyone has followed the Macworld steps etc!
    Thanks
    Darren

Thanks fir the reply, I thought with the fusion drive the SSD and HDD were two seperate storage devices seen by OSX as one volume, and the software determins where the files most used will be placed and accessed from.
    I've read a bit about this here;
    http://macs.about.com/od/diyguidesprojects/ss/Setting-Up-A-Fusion-Drive-On-Your- Current-Mac.htm
but would be great to hear first hand experience!!
With this DIY approach it appears that the same functionality of the 2012 iMacs is achieved but simply not using the older Disk Utility, but a newer version only included on the newer models...

  • Why can't Apple offer a financing plan that actually works?

Heres my story: I'm a film student at the College of Santa Fe in New Mexico, and I wanted to get an iMac G5 to do my video/audio editing on. I applied for Apples Credit Account only to be denied because I don't have a credit history, although I have made every monthly payment on a loan for a truck i've had since 2001. I'm sorry but I am completely ****** off that Apple can't use some sort of financing other than a credit card. Why would I want to spend money that isn't mine and that I haven't made yet? Ontop of that, the interest rates are just outrageous and completely unnecessary. However, I do have a job at the college, where I'm making about 150-200 every two weeks. Why can't Apple have a payment plan for their computers? I could make a $400 down payment, and then make payments every two weeks, but I can't because Apple doesn't offer anything like that. Just how in the **** am I supposed to get the system I need when the company that makes them won't offer me an affordable way to purchase their products. I think this is complete ********, and Apple needs to straighten their **** out. Anyone else feel the same way?

I believe the problem you are having is caused by Juniper Bank, Apple's current credit lender. They used to use MBNA and I would get approved immediately online. Last time I applied online at Apple, I got rejected and it said they had to do more checking. BTW...I have PERFECT credit. Well, about a MONTH later I get a credit card in the mail from Juniper with a $5,000.00 credit limit. Go figure. It was to late though. I went and bought one through Amazon.com and even got a $200.00 rebate. I would go apply there once or check at a bank or Apple reseller locally. Good luck!

  • I didn't notice an optical drive on the new iMacs. If this is true then how are customers to insert a dvd from a new peripheral purchased?

Where is the DVD player on the new iMacs?

I'm only guessing but it is no coincidence that Lion and Mountain Lion can only be bought be download from App Store.   Apple may well only want to sell this way in the future, via the App Store.   So no need for DVD facilities.

  • Why didn't Apple update it's 15-inch MacBook Pro Retina line up?

I plan to buy a new MacBook Pro Retina to replace my MacBook Air, I've been waiting for months to see if Apple update it's 15-inch MacBook Pro Retina line up, but on Spring Forward Apple did not update it, does any body know why and when will apple update it's line up? Also I will do a lot of coding and video editing with my new MacBook Pro, which model should I take, or what will suit me the best, the 13inch Retina MacBook Pro or the 15 inch Retina MacBook Pro?
Thank you guys for your answer, and sorry for my bad English.

Intel hasn't released the Quad Core Broadwell chips yet, Intel recently announced mid 2015 for these chips.

  • Why didn't apple make iphone with wifi calling?

It is beyond me that Blackberry and the Android phones have wifi calling and the new iphone 5 does not.  Why?  That should be standard in all phones.

Just left a message there.  Thanks.  I live and travel and work in poor coverage areas and have a mifi to cover me doing charge sales.  Sad that Apple won't let me talk in these areas too.

  • Why didn't apple include a radio feature on the new iPod touch but included it on the nano?

Apple should have built in a radio for the new iPod touch. If they do that then I will consider buying one but for now I'll just use my old iPod with the radio

All we can say is "because they didn't". You can suggest it to Apple here:

  • OS 10.6.5 corrupts DVD Studio Pro!!!!!!!! - Why didn't Apple tell us

OS 10.6.5 corrupts DVD Studio Pro. Upgrade to 10.6.5 and you will mess up the drop zones in a number of the templates, in addition to other problems. It's a shame that Apple did not thoroughly test this update in advance. If they did, they would have discovered that it breaks one of their own Pro-Apps.
Contrary to some other postings, Pro Kit 6.0.1 has nothing to do with it. It is 100% an OS 10.6.5 problem. HOWEVER to easily (and relatively quickly) fix the problem, all you have to do is reinstall Snow Leopard and then use the 10.6.4 Combo Updater. That's it . . . problem solved. No reinstallation of FCS necessary, no loss of settings or preferences, the computer and all your other Apps and prefs are not disturbed. Moral of the story: Stay clear of OS 10.6.5.

For those who were totally stuck with a malfunctioning DVDSP 4.22 (an in my case running also OS X 10.6.5 and FCP 7.03, on a MAC Pro), I'd like to share my experience since I had a project due and was not going to be able to deliver. Quite an empty and frustrating feeling to say the least. Here's what I did to meet my contract obligations:
    1) Do not place your mouse over the simulator screen. Doing so crashed DVDSP every time. Instead you can use the screen remote to do some testing of your chapter markers and stories. You can also use your keyboard arrows. (My mouse is a Magic Mouse FYI).
    2. To avoid a compiling error and further test your markers, end jumps, etc., here's what I did:
2a. First I built the project (use only the "build" function). Afterwards, You are going to use only the "format" function. At this point, select as your output destination, the "hard drive" option by using the arrows, next to "output device." After doing this, I was able to open my project with the computer's DVD player and test out my chapter markers and story.
2b. Secondly I of course wanted to burn discs. I burned my disc using Disk Utility. You select the project having the "img" suffix. In short time I burnt 12 copies with no compiler error or other problems.
Well, I made my deadline. I'm glad I did NOT try to go back to a previous Pro Kit as that was beyond my abilities and as Mr. Sass has pointed out, the problem in his opinion is OS 10.6.5 and not Pro Kit 6.01. And before I tackle the possibility of reinstalling Snow Leopard, I will need an idiot's guide as how to do that and be certain that's really the remedy. I'm just an aging liberal arts guy.
I like Apple very much, but this DVDSP problem whatever its origin, forces me to follow the adage, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" and wait until others point out the pitfalls. And for my next project, capture sixty seconds of raw footage and dare to burn a disc. If it works, fine. If not, warn your client.
I'm sure Apple will fix the problem right after Christmas.

  • Why didn't Apple make it clear that if you upgrade to Mountain Lion on an older Mac, and want mirroring to work you were out of luck ?

I read the requirements to install Mountain Lion.  My system quilified, that is unless you wanted all the features to work.  Mirroring is not a "Key" feature that will work on older iMAC machines.  What a letdown for features I wanted to really work.

I feel really let down that my $2000+ i7 8gig MacBook Pro (mid 2010) can't mirror it's screen with AirPlay, but. $600 Mac mini (2011) can.
Really? Is wireless video *that* hard? I've been a long time Apple supporter, (1991) way before iAnything, and in those dark years up until now, I always made the point that Apple hardware had longevity. Of course my MacBook is still functional, built like a tank, and I'll get years out of it, but Apple dropping support for a top level machine so soon is unsettling.
I really, really wanted AirPlay, and bought Mountain Lion right away. It wasn't until later, while waiting for the download I noticed my beloved MacBook wasn't supported. Apple really should change their advertisements to make clear it's really only for brand new machines.

  • Why didn't Apple tell us?

Nowhere in their advertising for 10.7 did I see anything about it not working with Power PC apps. I seem to recall that when OS X was launched we were well warned about how many apps would not work and we would have to upgrade them. I now have 3 apps that I use often which can't run under 10.7. I would never have downloaded it had i known this.

It has been well known that it wouldn't be supported.  I strongly recommend reading http://www.macsurfer.com/ and always backing up your data prior to installing anything.   Yes, Apple has been surprisingly quiet, but Quicken did even go ahead a few days ago and said its 2007 version of its application would not work because of no Rosetta. At least a hint should have been up reading the specs that even lower end Intel CPUs weren't supported.   The earliest CoreDuo CoreSolo Macs aren't supported.    With those not even being supported, what chance does a PowerPC have of being supported?  Snow Leopard had Rosetta as an optional install.    To make a transitional application optional, after being standard should also be a hint that it will no longer be available at some point in the future.   Yes the writing is on the wall.   Unfortunately hints are often not enough.   Sorry to hear of your surprise.  We are just end users here.
