Why didn't my Mailboxes from Lion import to ML Mail?

I have downloaded and installed Mountain Lion, and my Mailboxes from Lion "Mail" did not import to ML Mail.  I tried running Migration Assistant to transfer my Mailboxes from my backup clone of Lion and that did not do it either.  Any of

Junk and Trash mailboxes from Gmail disappeared on Mac Mail--any ideas?
Under Mailboxes in Mac Mail, I used to see Inbox (along with sub-Inboxes for each account, all of which are still there), VIPs (still there), Sent (still there), Drafts, Junk and Trash, all of which are missing, without me making ANY changes anywhere, either on Mac Mail or Gmail.
Any ideas ... or other people experiencing same issue?  (Happened in my wife's account and I just assumed the kids deleted something, but then I went to my account where the kids never are and I found the same issue.)

Do you mean that they are not listed under Gmail's header at the bottom of the Mailbox List or that they don't exist in the Unified Mailboxes at the top?
If they are not in the unified mailboxes, check down under Gmail and vice versa. If they are at the bottom under Gmail, select each separately and go to the Use Mailbox for command in the Mailbox menu. Set each one to what they are supposed to be, ie Trash, Junk, Sent, Drafts.
If they don't appear anywhere, log into Google's email website, go to Settings, click on the Labels tab and make sure those mailboxes are set to show in IMAP.
Finally, if they are IMAP accounts, just delete the accounts from Mail then re-add them. If you have a lot of email, it will take a while to synchronize, but it should recover those foldrs. If you are using POP, I'm not exactly sure how to save the old email, but I would assume Google is already doing that for you.

  • Bringing smart mailboxes from Lion to Mt Lion

Hopefully this is the right venue.
I am trying to import my smartmailboxes from my old MacBook Pro running Lion to my new iMac running Mt Lion. All systems fully updated.
I copied the smartmailboxes.plist, the smartmailboxes.plist.back, the versionedsmartmailboxes.plist and the versionedsmartmailboxes.plist.backup folders from the old comp and put them on the new one.
Opened Mail, they did not show. Created a new smart mailbox to see if the iMac would read the plist. It didn't.
    Advise?
    Thanks!
    Alberto.

  • HT4527 Why didn't iTunes copy from PC to iMac work?

I tried copying from my PC's itunes to my iMac using an external hard drive as the intermediary and it did not work.  Followed the Apple instructions to the letter.  Even though all data and folders were placed in the iTunes folder on the iMac, when I opened the iMac's iTunes, nothing showed up.  No playlists, no music.  Old music was still there even though I had removed it via the folders.  Made sure iTunes was pointing to the correct folder too, but no luck.  What gives?
    Running OS X 10.8.4   iTUnes 11.0.4

Yes that's what I did, I copied the iTunes folder (and everying in and under it) from the external hard drive to the Music directory on my iMac.   Just to be sure, I did it all again.  When I opened iTunes, no music.  When I checked the iTunes Preferences, the iTunes Media Folder Location was pointing at the original content that I had dragged out to the desktop.  I changed the location, but nothing.  I changed it again, and again, still nothing.  Finally I clicked the Scan-for-Media button on the main iTunes screen (next to the go-to-iTunes-store button).   It found all my music and added it to the library, so that was good, but no playlists.  Does it matter if iTunes is open or closed when copying the content into the Music folder (I had it closed).
Should I have drilled down into the external hard drive's folders and copied only the content folders and the "iTunes Music Library.xml" file to the iMac's Music directory?   That's not what the directions say to do.

  • Why is the content missing from my messages in the Mail app?

Yesterday, because my email addresses are changing, I modified the settings to my accounts in the email application Mail so that they properly connect to the new email addresses and settings.
Most of the accounts are working fine. However, in one of them, it appears the content of nearly all the messages (both received and sent) are missing or not displaying. The program sees that there are different messages and lists them properly in the Inbox and Sent sections but when I try to preview or open them, a blank white screen with the message "Loading..." appears where the message content should.
I did not delete anything that would have affected these accounts in this way, yet this is happening. I tried restarting Mail but the same problem persists. Again my other accounts in Mail seem to be fine.
    BTW, I use Mac OS X v. 10.7.5 (Lion).
What can I do to restore the messages?

Would rebuilding the mailbox help? Or have people not had a good experience with that?

  • Imported Mailboxes from Mail, but Emails Didn't Import

I am upgrading from a Mac with OS X 10.3.9 to a faster Mac with OS X 10.4.8. In doing so, I'm trying to get my Mail emails from one computer to another. I went to LIBRARY / MAIL / MAILBOXES on the old computer and copied that folder into the same spot on the new computer. Then, in Mail, I:
    • selected FILE / IMPORT MAILBOXES
    • checked "Mail for Mac OS X"
    • found the appropriate mailboxes in LIBRARY / MAIL / MAILBOXES
    • had them all checked to import, and
    • seleced "Choose"
This successfully imported all of the mailboxes. Unfortunately, it didn't import any of the emails. I saw on another posting that a bug in Mail causes the LIBRARY / MAIL / MAILBOXES folder to sometimes be a file rather than a folder, but that doesn't seem to be the case here. Any thoughts about how to get all of my emails imported?
    Thanks!
    G4 Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Not sure what the problem is, but you did it wrong. You shouldn’t have moved the mailboxes to be imported into ~/Library/Mail/. Why did you do that? Actually, you shouldn’t have tinkered with the contents of ~/Library/Mail/ at all, amongst other reasons because ~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes/ is precisely where Mail would create the mailboxes resulting from the import.
Quit Mail, move the Mailboxes folder out of ~/Library/Mail/ (e.g. to the Desktop), and start over, i.e. import the Mailboxes folder that’s now on the Desktop and post back with your observations -- you may want to get rid first of any unnecessary folders that Mail may have created there.

  • Mountain Lion: Copying mailbox from one user to another user on the same mac

When I bought the mac I had only one email address.  Since then I have accumulated 3 more addresses. I created another User on the same MAC to seperate the personal emails from the 3 new email addresses, that I use for business.
There are some mailboxes from the 1st account that has business information in them that I want to move to the 2nd User account (with the 3 e-mail addresses).  I though that I could save them in the dropbox and then save them into the 2nd User accounts like I did with the documents and spreadsheets, but this does not work.
I really need to separate the Family Personal email information from the Busines Information and I do not want to just send lots and lots of emails to the accounts to get them there.
I am not using Cloud at the moment because it created some syncing issues.  Because the 1st User Account and email account is synced with an iPad and iPhone that my wife uses with an Apple ID.  The 2nd User (and 3 mail addresses) are synced with my iPhone and a separate Apple ID.  We have separate ID's because she did not want my personal & business contacts seeping into the family email accounts
I know that this is long, but I wanted to provide as much information as possible, so that I can resolve this.
    Thanks in Advance

I spent quite a few hours after this was posted trying to figure it out and I did.
Select Mailbox > Export Mailbox.  This asks you a location to export the mailboxes to.  It just uploads the exported mailboxes into Dropbox.
Then change the User that I want to import the mailboxes into. Select Import and select the location of where you placed the folder in Dropbox. This then imports the mailbox into a folder called Import. You then drag and drop the copied mailboxes from the Import folder to the folder in the structure you have.  If you decide to delete the folders from the import folder list, do this.  You can also delete the copied folders from Dropbox if you wish.
Took a while, but I got there and I'm happy now....

  • Help! Why didn't my Mail emails update from Lion?

I'm having an issue with my Mail app after upgrading from Lion.  My start up drive is a 120GB SSD and it doesn't have enough space to store my 16+GB mail file or my iPhoto library. Under Lion, I had the Mail folder on an external drive and had an alias link to the external Mail folder within the user Library folder. This worked fine. Now in Mavericks when I start Mail it displays the first time Welcome msg and then an alert box that I don't have privilege to access the external Mail folder and to use Info and update the access privileges for the folder.  I have done this but I still get the same message.  I ran Disk Utility and repaired the privileges on the startup drive. Still no joy.  Any suggestions?
Also, even under Lion, I've always got an alert from TextEdit when I've edited a txt/rtf file that it can't update the file because I don't have proper access privileges for the file, but it seems that changes are stored anyway.  ???

  • How can I import mailboxes from Eudora to my new POP Mail account?

    Good afternoon!
I have 10.4.11 on my Mac Mini and want to transfer my mail service from Eudora to Mail. I opened a POP account, but when I tried to import mailboxes from the Eudora Folder stored in Documents I got an Error message: No valid Eudora files were found.
I know the mailbox folder is in the Eudora Folder in Documents, so why can't Mail find it?

I'm not sure if you need Eudora Mailbox Cleaner, but you might take a look at it.

  • How do I import mailboxes in Lion?

I want to copy a mailbox from one Mac (iMac) to another (MacBook). Previously in Leopard this was easy, using Import Mailboxes... in the File menu, and selecting the appropriate mailbox(es) in the Library folder.
However, in Lion, the Library folder is hidden, so on my MacBook I cannot see the iMac's mailboxes I want to copy. I tried copying the mailboxes to the iMac Desktop and selecting them from there but this did not work - I just imported empty mailboxes.
I believe I can archive the mailboxes to the iMac desktop then import them to the iMac, but is there a way to make the iMac's Library folder visible on my MacBook so I can import them directly?
My iMac is running Lion 10.7.5 and my MacBook Leopard 10.5.8 (for Rosetta compatibility with legacy apps).

don't do it.  It will make your mac slower.  If you insist:
    Clear cache in Lion
Open a finder window and select “Go to Folder” in the Go menu
    Type in ~/Library/Caches
This is optional, but you can highlight & copy everything to a different folder in case anything goes wrong.
Highlight everything and press CMD and Backspace
    Restart your machine

  • Why does not Lightroom allow me to import RAW files from my Canon 5D Mark III?

Why does not Lightroom allow me to import RAW files from my Canon 5D Mark III?
Error message that it does not support cr. file

    Which version of Lightroom?
As Hal points out, if it's pre v 4.1, you can't expect an old version of the software to know what to do with a camera that didn't even exist when the software was released.
Given how many times a day this same issue comes up, maybe it's time Adobe changed the error message to something like "your camera is too old to be supported by this version of Lightroom. Please upgrade" or similar...

  • Importing Mailboxes from 10.3.9

The motherboard on my venerable slot-loading 1999 iMac DV, running 10.3.9, finally bit it recently. The cost to repair with labor far exceeded the value of the iMac, so I was not so hurt to have to go out and buy a new MacBook...which is just an awesome computer so far. Anyway, I rescued the old 80GB harddrive from the iMac and bought an external enclosure which works great as well. I've been able to easily import my iCal calendars, Safari bookmarks and iPhoto photos. However, when I try to import my mailboxes from OS X Mail, they show up as "greyed out" and cannot be chosen for import. Is there something I'm not doing right? It's not a really big deal, but there's a few I'd like to have for record-keeping. Thanks!

    macBook, 2Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

When I switched from a previous iMac with 10.3.6 to this one, I did the following (and, amazingly enough, it worked even though I went from Panther to Tiger):
On previous iMac, went to Users/Library/Mail/Mailboxes and made a backup copy of each and every .mbox folder (I have a lot of them, not just inbox, sent, etc) and put them all in one folder named import (or whatever) on a CD.
On the new iMac, I opened Mail and after clicking on "import" under File menu, I chose the new import folder on the CD and all my mailboxes with all contents intact were imported without a hitch.
A couple of Macs ago, I did it a bit differently and it also worked: after making a backup copy of every .mbox folder, I went to Users/Library/Mail/Mailboxes on the new computer, trashed each and every (empty) .mbox folder and manually put in all the backup folders. That method worked also, but I can't remember which OS version I was on at the time.
You might want to try either or both of these methods - just don't empty the trash (method #2) until you know things work as they should.
    Hope this helps.

  • TS3989 Only some of the photos I have taken on my iPhone appear in the photo stream on my iPad even thou they were taken at the same time. Why is this and how can I import the other photos from my iPhone to my iPad?

Only some of the photos I have taken on my iPhone appear in the photo stream on my iPad even thou they were taken at the same time. Why is this and how can I import the other photos from my iPhone to my iPad?

If older photos are missing it may be because photo stream photos are only held in iCloud for 30 days.  After that they are removed from iCloud but will remain (up to 1000 photos) on your device until deleted.  Also, only photos taken after enabling photo stream are added to your photo stream, and only when the camera is closed, your device is connected to wifi and you have at least 20% battery life remaining.
To transfer the missing photos you can either create a shared photo stream containing them and invite yourself to it (see http://help.apple.com/icloud/#mmc0cd7e99), import the photos to your computer and sync them to your iPad, or use an app like PhotoSync to transfer them to your iPad over wifi.
