Why do apple earphones get sticky over time?

Hi. I bought my iPod Touch 4th Gen last 2011. I've used it for my day-to-day music listening. And over time, I notice that the earphones that come with the iPod touch becomes sticky and it feels like it has some kind of wax that coats that cord and eventually easy to break. This earphones are already broken as of now.
So, I bought the latest Apple Earpods to replace my broken and sticky earphones. I am getting worried because I think my latest earpods will get sticky and break as days pass. It got me to think what kind of cord does Apple use to make this earphones sticky, waxy, and easily broken?

Not sticky, they're some sort of rubberized I presume! The same problem occured with mine either. The rubber foam all around the earphones got very sticky and came peeled off! But the EarPods are different and should survive those as the casing is made entirely of plastic however the cord should get you worrying though. Handle it with care, it might give a good lifespan!

    why did apple mail get much worse with lion osx?  I can't add recipients without copy and paste?

    I went through updates on my three newest Macs this week.  As I stated I'm talking about iTunes 10.5.1 (42).  I am checking for updates now and I see 10.5.2 is now available.  I'll know in about 15 minutes if this issue is fixed or not.
    15 minutes later:
    I must have updated this PPC G5 a day or two before iTunes 10.5.2 came out.  I was able to update to 10.5.2 (11) and this copy/paste bug is fixed.  I'm happy again.

  • Why does my phone get hot at time's?

    It doesn't happen every day, put there are times my phone gets hot even when I'm not using it then the battery drains fast and I have to charge it again.  It's not the battery area that gets hot.

    There is no damage to my phone. This is the second Samsung Galaxy S5 that I have received.  The first one did the same thing, then went dead.  I only charge my phone at night when I go to bed and unplug it in the morning.  When it does get hot, for some unknown reason, I have to charge it again during the day just to have cell phone access.  It doesn't happen on a daily basis.  It's just concerning as to why the Samsung Galaxy S5 is doing this.  Teffanie M Stark

  • Why did Apple iMovie get rid of chapter markers?

    Why would Apple ever get rid of chapter markers in iMovie? That is a really ignorant decision because that's one of the reasons that made iMovie great before. I know there are ways around it, but why would I want to export to another Apple app or a third-party app to add chapters when I can do it in iMovie (pre-'08 version).
    It's such a hassle now. If you're making any kind of a movie that isn't going to be played in QT or a computer where you can easily click on the play head - one would want chapter markers to skip ahead or move to a different section of your demo reel or whatever.
    Unbelievable...

    I disagree, it is not unfair to evaluate iMovie '08 as done here by previous posters:
    iLife '08 is sold as an upgrade to '06, so as a customer, I believe to rightfully expect an upgrade and not a downgrade in many features.
    I do agree though, that iMovie '08 does include a lot of easy to use features and is perfect for beginners or users who just want to put their files into a sharable environment, with little effort to make things look good.
    BUT: If you did any serious videoediting with iMovie '06, then this program is defnitely a downgrade in terms of options and control. As said, many of the sharing options are easier in '08 but even though a little more complex, managable in '06. Possibly I may also be untypical for not using YouTube as a preferred platform for sharing. Websharing on my personal site and DVDs both have the same priority. And I find better options for my purposes in '06.
    I've used '06 for documentation projects up to 4 hours in length. These are too cumbersome in '08, chapter markers being one important factor to me, besides integration with iDVD.
    I find the concept of '08 ok for smaller or less demanding projects, so I gave it a try. I was not happy with the result. Though this was before the last major update and I have not again used the program since.
    My personal consequence: I will keep an eye on how Apple decides to go on with their consumer movie software. Started switching to Final Cut Express, for now mainly using iMovie '06 and Norrkross Movie. The latter two being my preferred combination on my PB G4.
    In my personal opinion: Apple hast taken away a lot of the flexibility the old version offered. I think it would be a better step for many, to step up to Final Cut Express or other.

  • Faint ring around the edge of my display - getting worst over time

    I have been noticing over time a faint ring around the edges of my display - mostly prevalent when screen is blank (I.e. rebooting) but is present at all times. It's color is faint gray and seems to be getting more noticeable over time. It's not a big issue - just wondering what it could be. It's possible that this imac is simply aging - it's on its 5th year. And, running strong!

    Interesting. Can you post pics of the "ring"?  Does the ring occur around areas of greatest use or or wear?

  • Why Iphone (old) backup gets priority over (more recent) MobileMe Sync?

    My Iphone crashed and had to restore it.
    As my Iphone backup in Itunes was a month old, I seemed to have lost all the new contact/ical/safari info I had accumulated in the meanwhile.
    I obviously do not sync with Itunes as often as Mobile Me does. It however seems that the iphone (one month old) info got priority over the more recent Mobile Me. Is there a way to avoid this to happen?
    With MobileMe I obviously do not really need and want to sync the iphone with itunes except to backup the phone settings.

    I've had to add my MobileMe account many times, since I end up restoring my iPhone a lot. I setup MobileMe to sync my contacts, calendars, and bookmarks with my macbook as well, so even if something happened to Apple's servers, my data is still safe. I do not backup that data in iTunes though since it's being synced over the air via MobileMe. If you go into the Info Tab of the iPhone section it will tell you if it's being synced via MobileMe.

  • WLAN getting slower over time.

    If I download arch iso from my local server via scp, the connection begins with a speed of 2-3 MB/s, and slows permanently down until it reached 80Kb/s. If I do the same over Fast Ethernet, I get  constant 11.3 MB/s. I have this problem on my router (701V) as well as on my accesspoint (WL0110), with wicd as well as with networkmanager. Hence I guess it is a driver problem.
    I dont have any clue on how to solve this problem. Here some Info. Please ask if you need more.

    This is what I believe is happening.  I don't see what I might not be freeing.  I remove all event listeners and remove the TextFields from the display list.  Is there anything else I need to do?
    Currently I am displaying the frame rate.  I see a frame rate starting at 30 and going down to 8 after several hours.
    I also just started to display the memory:
    tf.text = Number( System.totalMemory / 1024 / 1024 ).toFixed( 2 ) +' Mb';
    I am interested to see if when the FPS goes down to < 10, if the memory is much larger.
    Are there any tools that might help debug what might be happening?

  • Please help me figure out why this thread's performance degrades over time

    Hello.
    The code below is from a Runnable that I've tested inside a Thread operating on a TreePath array of size 1500; the array 'clonedArrayB' is this TreePath array. The code is designed to create a more stepped version of setSelectionPaths(TreePath[]) from class JTree.
    The performance decrease of the thread is very rapid; this is discernible simply from viewing the println speed. When it gets to about 1400 TreePaths added to the JTree selection, it's running at roughly 1/10 the speed it started running at.
    I know there's no problem with maintaining a set of selected paths of that size inside a JTree. I also know that the thread stops when it should. So it must be some operation I'm performing inside the brief piece of code shown below that is causing the performance degradation.
    Does anyone have any idea what could be causing the slowdown?
    Many thanks for your help. Apologies if you would have liked an SSCCE, but I very much doubt it's necessary for this. Either you can see the problem or you can't. And sadly I can't x:'o(
    int indexA = 0;
    public void run() {
         // Prevent use of / Pause scanner
         try {
              scannerLock.acquire();
         } catch (InterruptedException exc) {
              Gecko.logException("Scanner lock could not be acquired by expansion thread", exc);
         while (!autoExpansionComplete) {
              while (indexA < clonedArrayA.length) {
                   int markerA = indexA + 10;
                   for (int a = indexA; a < markerA && a < clonedArrayA.length; a++) {
                        pluginTreeA.addSelectionPath(clonedArrayA[a]);
                   indexA = markerA;
                   System.out.println(indexA + "," + clonedArrayA.length);
                        if (autoExpansionComplete) {
                             break;
                   stop();
    };

    Well, since I've had no responses, I tried to think of other ways to speed the code up.
    I'd already made nearly every tweak I know. The only additional thing I could think of was to use addSelectionPaths(TreePath[]) on a subarray of the cloned array, instead of addSelectionPath(TreePath) on the cloned array's elements, since obviously it would be fewer method calls. It has sped things up an awful lot (my new code is shown below - I've left in some things I chopped out above, so you can see exactly what I see). The problem is though, obviously an increase in initial velocity doesn't solve the problem of deceleration occurring, if you get me.
    // Clone the selection arrays to non-volatile arrays for better access
    // speeds
    final TreePath[] clonedArrayA = selectionPathsArrayA.clone();
    final TreePath[] clonedArrayB = selectionPathsArrayB.clone();
    // Create a new runnable to perform the selection task
    Runnable selectionExpander = new Runnable() {
         /** Position within cloned array A */
         int indexA = 0;
         /** Position within cloned array B */
         int indexB = 0;
         /** Length of subarray grabbed from cloned array A */
         int lengthA;
         /** Length of subarray grabbed from cloned array B */
         int lengthB;
         /** Subarray destination */
         private TreePath[] subarray = new TreePath[100];
         public void stop() {
              autoExpansionComplete = true;
              automatedSelection = false;
              scannerLock.release();
          * Grabs 10 blocks of each selection paths array at a time, adding
          * these to the tree's current selection and then moving to the next
          * cycle
         public void run() {
              // Prevent use of / Pause scanner
              try {
                   scannerLock.acquire();
              } catch (InterruptedException exc) {
                   Gecko.logException("Scanner lock could not be acquired by expansion thread", exc);
              while (!autoExpansionComplete) {
                   while (indexA < clonedArrayA.length || indexB < clonedArrayB.length) {
                        // Set subarray lengths
                        lengthA = subarray.length;
                        lengthB = subarray.length;
                        // If subarray length is greater than the number of
                        // remaining indices in the source array, set length to
                        // the number of remaining indices
                        lengthA = indexA + lengthA > clonedArrayA.length ? clonedArrayA.length - indexA : lengthA;
                        lengthB = indexB + lengthB > clonedArrayB.length ? clonedArrayB.length - indexB : lengthB;
                        // Create subarrays and add TreePath elements to trees'
                        // selections
                        System.arraycopy(clonedArrayA, indexA, subarray, 0, lengthA);
                        pluginTreeA.addSelectionPaths(subarray);
                        System.arraycopy(clonedArrayB, indexB, subarray, 0, lengthB);
                        pluginTreeB.addSelectionPaths(subarray);
                        // Remember the latest index reached in source arrays
                        indexA += lengthA;
                        indexB += lengthB;
                        System.out.println(indexA + "," + clonedArrayA.length);
                        System.out.println(indexB + "," + clonedArrayB.length);
                        if (autoExpansionComplete) {
                             break;
                   stop();
    // Create and start new thread to manage the selection task runner
    selector = new Thread(selectionExpander);
    selector.start();I really can't think what could be causing the slowdown. I've done everythng I can think of to increase the velocity, such as cloning the source arrays since they're volatile and access could be slightly slower as a result.
    Nothing I try gets rid of the slowdown effect though :(

  • "Reading noises" getting worse over time.

    I don't watch a lot of t.v. I don't have one, I love dvd movies though and usually end up watching a few on my laptop each day. I need to know if the problems I've been having are something I can fix or if my superdrive is dying.
    I've read all the posts where people say their dvd player is making "wherring" noises and people say that its the dual layers of new dvds, or the computer reading through copywrite protections, or the dvd being scratched ever so slightly.
    I get the wherring noise when I first put in a dvd, but after the movie gets going the sound is like (don't laugh to much) a dying digital frog is living in my superdrive. When it happens the noise lasts between .5 seconds and 2 seconds. The video as of late has gotten the "invisible" lines and very jumpy at times. The audio, however, is uneffected. This even happens if I buy a "new" dvd (a never opened(no scratches) dvd from years ago before all the copy protections and dual layers).
    Not sure if it is related, but sometimes I put in a dvd, the disk image shows up on the desktop and dvd player opens. But when it goes into full screen to view the movie I get a black screen with the timer counting down from 3hours, and like 12 min.(I always have my timer showing remaining time). If I press eject, dvd player freezes and force quit doesn't work, I have to shut down. I found if I just force quit and restart dvd player with the dvd in the drive it usually gets going. Really I wouldn't be surprised if the drive is dying, though I'm sure you can understand its the last thing I want to hear.
    Anything anyone could think of would be greatly appriciated. Thank you in advance.

  • Screen getting duller over time??

    [....or is it me?!]
    It's a good even light, but I'm starting to suspect that it's not as bright as it used to be.
    The slider under resolution [system pref] is full on [as is F2].
    It can't be old age because everything else in the room seems to be getting brighter [! ... compared with the screen...]
    I wonder if the LCD aspect is wearing out - or is there a backlight, I wonder??
    Maybe a PMU reset will do it.....????
    Thanks - to any helpful knowledgeable soul out there. I did a search for 15 mins but didn't find a similar post.
    Thanks
    John

    Yes, it is getting duller. This is normal. And it's not you.
    Most LCD screens use a backlight bulb, fluorescent like the lights in the ceiling of an office. They are rated in hours. If you read the spec sheet for an LCD screen, it might say something like 10,000 or 20,000 hours. Typically, that's the number of hours it takes to reach half its original brightness. If you use your laptop all day and every day, after a few years it will be dimmer. And it isn't because of the whole screen, it's only because of the light bulb back there.
    Whenever a new laptop comes out, the silliest thing every review says is "The screen is brighter than the old model." Well of course it will...the new model's backlight bulb hasn't been on for 1500 hours in the year since the old model came out! (1500 hours roughly equals 6 hours of use a day for 5 working days a week in a year.)
    The Titaniums haven't been produced in over 3 years. If you go by the usage above, that's around 4500 hours, enough to put a serious dent in brightness. A lot of people use them more than that.
    And of course, the same applies to LCD TVs. When I get one, it's going to be a good thing I'm not the type of person to leave it on all day.
    You can get a replacement backlight bulb at a place like this, but it's going to be extremely difficult to replace yourself without the right tools.
    There are new LCDs with amazing improvements in color fidelity. This is made possible by getting rid of the unreliable fluorescent backlights that fade unevenly, and using LEDs as a backlight instead. They are currently expensive, but the quality is better and they maintain brightness a lot longer. These LED-backlit LCDs are starting to turn up in NEC desktop LCD monitors and Sony laptops.

  • Index Organized Table getting slow over time

    Hello,
    I recently discovered a problem in our our production environment:
    We use an IOT to store search results in the form of primary keys (and additional data). This results in an excessive amount of INSERTs and DELETEs (the application is mainly a research tool). After some time, some statements on the IOT like SELECT COUNT(*) (optimizer using INDEX FAST FULL SCAN) take longer and longer, however the IOT index is used correctly by the optimizer and SELECTs which specify WHERE primk... (optimizer using INDEX RANGE SCAN) are executed with best performance.
    It seems that the IOT somehow gets fragmented or unbalanced. Now my question ist, what's would be the best approach against that problem.
    Would a daily ALTER TABLE ... MOVE ONLINE; be a good solution for example? Is this common practice with high volatile IOTs in 24x7 production environments?
    Are there any better solutions for storing temporary search results?
    Looking forward for your comments.
    -sd

    In addition to above mentioning...
    Have you verified the distribution of IOT?
    Like "ANALYZE INDEX .... VALIDATE STRUCTURE"? or "DBMS_STATS.GATHER_TABLE_STATS"?
    It's natural that your full table scan(index fast full scan) gets slower in case that your IOT is getting bigger.
    If you have lots of free leaf nodes, moving index will be beneficial although moving itself should be abvoided on busy time.
    You also need to do sql trace and tkprof to measure how much workload your IOT is making.

  • Does image retention on macbook retina get worse over time ?

      Does image retnetion get worse on macbook retina ? Is there anyway to just replace the screen instead of exchanging for a new macbook retina ?
    I read that they can replace the top assembly for macbook retina.. what does that include exactly ?

    Yes it gets worse!! Apple is aware of the problem and even created a test to "check" for it. I had my screen replaced and I'm seeing the same problems again!!!!! here's my experience about it: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4522765

  • How do i make a line vector get longer over time?

    I'm trying to make straight lines grow out of a stationary dot, like veins. I've tried shape tween, but it only works for shapes, not lines. I'd just get a blank workspace when I hit play. I've also tried motion tween, but I can't get the line to grow continuously to a point. Can someone help me please? I'm very new to Flash.

    How about drawing a very short line - don't make it a symbol.
    Add 60 frames or so, enter a keyframe at the end.
    On that last keyframe, scale the line to the size you want.
    Select the other frames, right click, choose shape tween.
    Your line will grow
    You could then duplicate the rows and rotate the lines, or make into a MovieClip and then duplicate/rotate the movie clip for multiple versions.
    (If this helps, please click as helpful etc)
