Why do Apple support communities keep deleting discussions about cancelled gift cards?

It is a lot of  work to advise the Apple consuming community of the problems people face trying to redeem cancelled gift cards.  Why do you keep deleting these discussions?  They are very informative and they are keeping within the agreement posted on your site.  I spent a lot of time informing the community about the futility of trying to get information about a $15 gift card cancellation, and other people chimed in with the same problem, and then I logged on and found you have deleted the entire discussion?  There was nothing improper or not factual.

Finally, it appears we have an answer in the form of resolution of the Bafard class action lawsuit in California.  There was apparently information revealed in the lawsuit that the third party administrator for the cards cancelled about 290,000 cards (but can't really tell how many).
From a news article posted in late February 2014:
"Based on the informal discovery completed in the case so far, the motion said the total number of deactivated iTunes gift cards was about 290,000."
“Defendants possess no information that permits direct identification of the individual gift card holder for the majority of affected gift cards, and are thus unable to ascertain the precise number of individuals holding deactivated cards,” the motion said."
"Prepaid card company InComm Holdings Inc., also named as a defendant, provides services to Best Buy for the activation and deactivation of the iTunes gift cards, according to the complaint. The suit says Apple and Best Buy responded to a prelawsuit notice by claiming InComm was responsible for system-related issues with redeeming the gift cards."
According to the article, all remaining gift cards will be reactivated!!!  So all we have to do is try to use our "deactiviated" cards again.
Not sure if this settlement relates only to InComm's deactivation of cards purchased at Best Buy, however.  But at least just try.

Hopefully this post won't get deleted as the approximately 290,000 card holders need to know.

  • I want my apple support communities account deleted

    Hi everyone,
I really want to delete my account as I haven't used it since 2009 and I don't like the usage of my name for privacy reasons. I would either like my ASC account completely deleted or at least my name changed and previous topic history deleted. I just don't feel conftorable floating my name around.
Thanks, I would appreciate any answer at all.

That information is not something you can easily take back.  Once you post something online, it can be impossible to take back entirely.  There are other sites that keep an archive of posts on this site, even if the moderators here do comply and remove your posts.
I see nothing wrong with any of your posts - nothing embarrassing - and if you're just paranoid about having your name posted on a web site, note that I've been using my real name here very regularly since 2006 and have never had a problem with it.  There's nothing that a malicious party can do with the fact that you posted here a few times 2 years ago.
    Don't worry about it.

  • Why does Apple Support Communities software burn up my processor?

I brought up the page Your Stuff > Discussions in iCab, Safari, and TenFourFox.
    https://discussions.apple.com/people/rccharles?view=discussions
I waited awhile for the pages to load & for things to quite down.   I brought up Google.com in all three web browsers.  I noticed that the google.com web page uses a lot less processor power when idle.

  • Deleting Apple Support Communities Account?

    Hi everyone,
I have searched the forums and Google and so far have come to the conclussion that it's not possbile on my end to delete a ASC account, but is possible on the backend some how?
I created a new account without realizing my friend was logged into to his iOS developer account, thus creating an account for him, with my username. No posts have been made under this account nor has any other activity taken place.
Is it possible to have this account deleted? Or at least the username changed?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
I will say that the Hosts tend to have a small range of reasons that they will actually do this for.
In the cases where people create an Alias that is the same as their Email address or something similar that makes them a little too indentifiable the the Hosts might do it for Privacy reasons.
Obviously that includes things like listing yourself as a partnership (JanetandJohn for Instance) and there may be an issue over ownership of that ID/Alias.
To Be Clear - we are talking about changes to the Alias  associated with the Apple Support Communities rather than anything about the actual  Apple ID you are using to Login.
If you had an Apple ID that was used with an Alias created fro the old Version of the Software  used to run the Forums then normally you are unable to change it. (it will be a hosts decision as to whether they feel a change would be possible.  It may pay to check any likely Alias you do want to use is not in use already. Use the Search feature.)
The Original Poster  has the easiest time as he can just create a New ID and Alias if he wants to use the Support Communities.
I can see he may feel honour bound top sort things out for his Friend's account.
If there are bits of your Apple ID that you can change this Apple Page may help.

  • How to Prevent Apple Support Communities from Sending Me Emails?

    Hi,
How I can I prevent the Apple Support Communities website / tool from sending me emails?
I have disabled all emails in my profile settings (since about six months):
Still,  Apple Support Communities keep sending me emails in increasing frequency:
(It is the same account / username / email, I have triple checked that.)
What options other than marking Apple as as spammer do I have left?
    Cheers

    Hi,
Thank you – that (hopefully) resolves the issue!
Note, that I came to Edit Preferences not through my Profile, but through the link in the "update emails" itself.
The link in the emails (see screeshot) reads: You are receiving this email from Apple Support Communities. You can change your email preferences in your Apple Support Communities Profile.
And the link leads to the "Edit Preferences" page (the "Manage Email Notifications" page is not visible / linked from "Edit Preferences")
According to common "unsubscribe" practices in emails, I would expect that an "unsubscribe"-type of link leads me to a page where I can unsubscribe from the type of email I just received (and not unsusbcribe from 'additional potential future' emails or whatever you would call it in that case).
Hence, this "unsubscribe" link in the email should either go to the Profile page, or the Manage Email Notifications (where I can actualy unsusbcribe), NOT to Edit Preferences.
Hope, someone from Apple reads the above...
( Personally, I think the idea to split between past and future threads is a bad design in the first place )
    Daniel

  • Deleting discussions on my Apple Support Communities

How do I delete the discussions I made before,on this Apple Support Communities page?

You can't delete any post you have made on these discussions. You would need to request this with apple hosts, go to this this discussion group and request a host to delete any post you have made.

  • I created an Apple ID using my ISP Email when I registered at the Store/Apple Support Communities/iTunes/Face Time and it does not work in iChat. Why Not ?

    Question:-
I created an Apple ID using my ISP Email when I registered at the Store/Apple Support Communities/iTunes/Face Time or other portal and it does not work in iChat. Why Not ?
    Answer:-
For a Name to work in iChat it has to be an Valid AIM screen Name.
Only Apple IDs from the @mac.com ending names registered here  and the Mobileme (@Me.com ending) names are Valid with the AIM service as well as being Apple IDs
(I am still working on info about registering with iCloud at the moment but if this does give you an @Me.com email it may well be a valid AIM name as well)
    NOTES:-
The @mac.com page works by linking an external (Non Apple) email with a @mac.com name.
This External Email cannot be one linked to an Existing Apple ID (you have to use a second email or register at AIM )
The options at AIM are to use your existing email or create new name and link the existing only for Password recovery
MobileMe (@me.com ending names) were valid Emails addresses, Apple IDs AND a Valid AIM Screen Name
@mac.com names look like emails but are only Apple IDs and iChat/AIM Valid Screen Names.
The AIM registration page seems to be pushing you to register [email protected] This is relatively new and I have not followed through the pages to find out if it a valid AIM email (Previously you could register a name without an @whatever.com suffix)

    Question:-
So I have my current [email protected] email in iChat as I thought as I had linked that to an Apple ID it was a Valid iChat Name.  It keeps coming up with a UserName or Password Invalid message.  What do I do next ?
    Answer:-
    Open iChat
Go to the Menu under the iChat name in the Menu Bar and then Preferences and then Accounts in the new window.
Commonly written as iChat > Preferences > Accounts as directions/actions to take.
If it displays with a Yellow running name in the list you have a choice.
Either register it at AIM (I would use a different password to the ISP Login) and then change the password only in iChat  (It may take you to confirm any Confirmation email from AIM first) in iChat > Preferences > Accounts
Or you register a new Name at AIM (Or at @mac.com) and enter that (details below)
If you have a Blue Globe name  (@mac.com) that will not Login the chances are that it the password that is the issue.
Apple lets you create longer passwords than can be used with the AIM Servers.
Change the Password at iForgot to no more than 16 characters.
Then change the password in iChat as details above.
Adding a new Account/Screen Name in iChat (that is valid with the AIM servers)
    Open iChat if not launched.
Go to iChat Menu > Preferences > Accounts
Click the Add ( + )  Button at the bottom of the list.
Choose in the top item drop down either @Mac.com or AIM depending on what you registered
Add the name (with @mac.com the software will add the @mac.com bit)
Add in the password.  (If you don't add it now iChat will ask you each time you open it)
    Click Done.
The Buddy List should open (New Window)
The Accounts part of the Preferences should now have the new name and you should be looking at the details.
You can add something in the Description line which will then title the Buddy List (Useful when you have two or more names) and make it show up as that in the iChat Menu > Accounts and the Window Menu of iChat when logged in.
You can then highlight any other Account/Screen Name you don't want to use and use the Minus ( - ) Button to delete it.

  • Why no response of any kind on Apple Support Communities when issue is acknowledged elsewhere online?

Since upgrading to Safari 6.0 & Mountain Lion, my Safari has been acting up with various issues.  I asked for insight on this web page & see many reads but no response from anyone on the issues.  What gives?  Why would not Apple itself at least acknowledge the issues and let us know they are working on a solution? Doesn't Apple read the discussions?  Here is the best description of the issues once again that I copied form another place:

  • Is it possible to completely delete your Apple Support Communities account?

    Hello everybody,
    As the title states.

It seems that complete deletion is impossible, but the next best thing would be to clear out your personal information, if that was your concern:
    1. Remove devices and other personal information from your Apple Support Community profile. This would be accomplished by editing your profile and privacy settings (e.g make the privacy settings as strict as possible).
    2. You'll notice your name and email address are not editable via the Apple Support Communities profile page. However, you can edit your name and email address used by Apple Support Communities from your Apple ID https://appleid.apple.com/
To change these, login and click on the "Manage your Apple ID" and you will be able to change them via the "Name, ID and Emaill Addresss" link in the menu on the left. However, please note that any changes to your Apple ID affect your main Apple account (iTunes, iCloud, Apple Online Store, etc.)
