Why do apps ignore general sound modes?

Hello, this is a bit strange to me I have this one game with a pretty loud train intro animation. I don't always want to disturb with this sound when starting a game, so I held the button and changed to vibrate mode. To my surprise the game still did the sound when started! And it does the same when I switch the phone to silent mode (the first speaker with a cross icon). So I wonder why don't these modes apply to apps? This UI functionality does not seem very logical to me and can lead to a bit embarrasing situations.

I can't answer for other brands but i believe this is standard for Android and it's how it works in Xperia.
You have 3 volume controls in your phone:
- ring volume and notfications (i've heard that some phones may have separate controls for these two)
- media volume
- alarm volume
If you press the volume key while not playing any media sound you will adjust the ring volume and notifications. Silent mode will also not affect the media volume. If you press the volume keys while media sound is playing you will however adjust the media volume. This is why it doesn't help pressing the volume key before starting the game.
In this case you need to go to Settings -> Sound -> Volumes and lower the volume for music, video, games and other media before starting the game.

  • Why does Firefox ignore 32-bit mode setting?

I'm running Firefox 18.0.1 in Mac 10.8.2, but I've had this problem in other versions too. I need FF to run in 32-bit mode, because I often use Google Voice, which requires that. I've already gone to the information window for the application and checked the box that says "Open in 32-bit mode." Seems like that should solve the problem. But it doesn't. Every time I open FF and log in to Gmail, I get a message saying it uses plug-ins that can only run in 32-bit mode, and asking if I want to restart in 32-bit mode. If I just want to check my email it's fine, but if I want to use Google Voice I have to restart the browser. That's annoying, given that there already is a setting for starting in 32-bit mode, and that I've already selected it. Is that setting non-functional, or is there some way to make it actually work?

Firefox may need to use a plugin (possibly Silverlight) that is only present in a 32 bit version if that happens.
Not all plugins support 64 bit and if not then you need to start Firefox in 32 bit mode to use that plugin.

  • Hi i have asked for this help before and it was fixed but cant remember how to do it My ipad has lost sound in certain apps and general typing i remember fixing it through the settings can any one please help it not the mute

Hi I have had this problem before butr cant remember how to fix it . What has happened is certain apps have no sound where as others do I also have no sound when typing.I remember when i last asked for help with this problem it was done through settings. It not on mute Please help me.

You can enable keyboard sounds via Settings > General > Sounds . If they are enabled but you can't hear them then have you checked that you haven't got notifications muted (which will also affect most apps) ?
Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. The function that isn't on the side switch is set via the taskbar instead : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085

  • Why is there a clicking sound when I close the cover and enter sleep mode?

why is there a clicking sound when I close the cover and enter sleep mode?

    Hi katesvca,
I too have an iPad smart cover, and all that clicking sound is is basically the standard lock sound for iOS. The Smart cover is equipped with magnets inside, and the iPad is also equipped with magnets, and when those magnets are closed together the iPad goes to sleep.
I hope this answers your question.

  • HT3576 Can you get sound notifications for mail and iMessage with the new iPad. Under general sounds I have a sound selected for both of those. My volume is turned all the way up but I still don't get sound notifications with these apps. Suggestions?

I have sound turned on under general> sounds. The volume is all the way up and I can hear it when i adjust it. However under notifications sound is not an option for mail or iMessage. Just badges and alerts. Both of which are on. I would really like to hear my notifications. Any suggestions.

    1. Double-click the Home button and swipe Task Bar to the right
    2. Check the volume and mute settings

Why have I lost video sound on my ipad?

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Check your settings. The iPads have a small switch on the right edge. It can be used as a rotation lock to keep the screen from automatically reorienting itself as you move around, but you need to have the tablet’s settings configured properly. That same switch, right above the volume buttons, can also be set to function instead as a mute button to silence certain types of audio.
If the switch is set to work as a mute button, you can change its purpose to “screen-rotation lock” by tapping the Settings icon on the home screen. On the Settings screen, tap General on the left side, and on the right side of the screen flick down to “Use Side Switch to.” Tap to select Lock Rotation or Mute to set the button’s function. Even if you set the side switch for your preferred use, you can still mute the Mini or lock the screen. Just double-click the Home button, and when the panel of apps appears along the bottom edge of the screen, flick the row from left to right with your finger. Tap the icon on the far left side of the row to either lock the iPad’s screen or mute the iPad’s alerts, notifications and sound effects. Music, podcasts and video are not muted unless you turn the volume all the way down.

  • All text tones are available in General-Sounds. Some are missing via Contacts-Edit Contact.

I have confirmed that this issue is also present in the iPhones in the Apple store as of 28-April-2014.  I told one of the guys in the Apple store about it and he said that the iPhones in the store have a custom version, so I asked him to check his own iPhone.  He did, and the issue is present on his phone, so it's definintely a general IOS7 iPhone issue.
If you go to General -> Sounds -> Text Tone -> Classic, you can see all the classic text tones.
If you go to Contacts, select a contact, select Edit -> Text Tone -> select Classic, some are missing.
I used Choo Choo for one of my contacts while I was on IOS6 and when I switched to a new phone with IOS7 and performed a restore, their text tone changed to Tri-tone.  I tried to change it back and saw it was not availble, so I figured they had taken it out of IOS7.  Then I heard a friend's iPhone 5 on IOS 7 who had Choo Choo set up as their default.  I investigated and saw that more Classic text tones were available via General.
Is there some logical reason why some text tones are not available for Contacts?

Do you maybe have your contacts separated into groups? If so, perhaps you have unchecked the group that the missing contact are in.
In the Contacts app, click the Groups button in the upper left corner. Make sure all groups have a check mark next to them.

  • Another BlackBerry Q5 camera issue. Why is BB ignoring the problem?

    Hi all
I love the blackberry Q5 , and appreciate the bb10 OS. Got bored of IOS and don't like the android phones...
I was happy with it until the camera stopped working three days ago.
I blocked all third party apps, drained the battery, security wiped twice, shut down and restarted the phone dozens of times, downloaded two camera apps... But none of this worked.
I still get the can't change flash mode message or can't access then camera one.
Odd thing, I tried snapchat and would get then front camera working.
The handset is no longer under warranty .
I'm wondering why BlackBerry is ignoring the issue, noticed many similar problems with loads of other users that had even changed the camera module.
Any suggestions? I'm worried to change for other Q5 or Q10 as the malfunction seems quite recurrent...
    Help anyone?
    Thanks!

  • Why is there suddenly no sound on my games?

Yesterday everything worked fine. Today, my games and my children's games and apps have no sound. Where ever possible, I checked settings in the apps and they were ok. • Why'o'why do they ignore Baltics?::font question

i have a problem with fonts. and with Graphisoft's ArchiCAD 10.
the app itself uses system's lucida grande.
there are two types of text input in the app. one deals with text boxes placed in the drawings. here i can succesfully use any font ie lucida grande.
the 2nd type is text fields 'within app', like project info, page names etc. here...
    [info:
in system preferences/international the languages are english and latviešu, input- latviešu (thats the only way i can input macrons (see latvian alphabet http://www.evertype.com/alphabets/latvian.pdf))]
...the text fields 'within app' (which are in lucida grande) ignores the keystrokes ('+a=ā) for getting macrons. just does nothing.
the lucida grand is unicode and there havent been (nearly) problems when using in other apps, even in ac10 text boxes. so why the app cant pick up the part of characters needed for latvian (latin extended-a(127))? one suggestion is that archicad does not support unicode. but thats illogical(isn't it?) because app recognizes basic latin part(?)
i know that there is a problem for greek fonts in win version and it can be solved through regedit. here i searched all the content, preferences, app suport, but didnt find where/how to change app font script code.
i know, this question should be addressed to graphisoft, but i give a try for mac gurus:)
    thus:
could the problem be solved from the 'font side'? any way to update/alter lucida grande? any way to force app to use latin extended? anything? im desperate...
    thanks in advance!
offtopic:no surprise, while latvian is believed to be one of the archaistic languages out there;))
    iMac Intel Mac OS X (10.4.7) the.architecture.box

could the problem be solved from the 'font side'?
This is your best bet I think. Your app does not support Unicode in the fields where you want to type it, so you could try installing and selecting a non-Unicode Latvian or CE font. To input you might have to use the Character Palette in Glyph mode, as it might be hard to figure out which key does what for a non-Unicode font.

when the apple review team review our app, they point out that our  app uses a background mode but does not include functionality that requires that mode to run persistently。but in fact, when the app in background ,the app need data update to make the function of  trajectory replay come ture。in fact, we have added function when the app  is in background mode。we have point out the point to them by email。but they still have question on the background mode,we are confused, does anyone can help me,i still don't know why do review team can't find the data update when  the app is in background and how do i modify the app,or what is the really problem they refered,do i misunderstand them?
the blow is the content of the review team email:
We found that your app uses a background mode but does not include functionality that requires that mode to run persistently. This behavior is not in compliance with the App Store Review Guidelines.
We noticed your app declares support for location in the UIBackgroundModes key in your Info.plist but does not include features that require persistent location.
It would be appropriate to add features that require persistent use of real-time location updates while the app is in the background or remove the "location" setting from the UIBackgroundModes key. If your application does not require persistent, real-time location updates, we recommend using the significant-change location service or the region monitoring location service.
For more information on these options, please see the "Starting the Significant-Change Location Service" and "Monitoring Shape-Based Regions" sections in the Location Awareness Programming Guide.
If you choose to add features that use the Location Background Mode, please include the following battery use disclaimer in your Application Description:
"Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life."
Additionally, at your earliest opportunity, please review the following question/s and provide as detailed information as you can in response. The more information you can provide upfront, the sooner we can complete your review.
