Why do certain files open in Photoshop 6 as "new" files yielding no image?

A group of about 8 files open fine in Element 7 but Photoshop 6 treats them as "new" files upon opening and then shows them as a blank/white image. I have tried renaming files in both Elements and Photoshop; still does not fix the problem. I have screenshots of the Elements and Photoshop openings. No other file have a problem.
Virus definitions up-to-date and scan shows no problems. Windows XP 32bit user.

I took so long to answer because I'm having problems posting the screenshots.
First is Elements 7 showing file image, next Photoshop 6 while opening, next Photoshop 6 after opening

  • How to open your Photoshop Touch project file in Photoshop

    How to open your Photoshop Touch project file in Photoshop
    When your files are stored in the Creative Cloud, you can access them on your mobile device using Adobe Photoshop Touch, or on your desktop computer using Adobe Photoshop. Photoshop Touch can open files in the following formats: PSD*, PSDX, PNG, JPG, and GIF. And, with a free plug-in for Photoshop CS5, CS5.1, and CS6 you can open the PSDX files created by Photoshop Touch in Photoshop.
    [Note: PSD files can only be opened via the Adobe Creative Cloud. The file is converted,  layers are flattened to a single layer, and  other info that is only supported in Photoshop is removed.]
    Download the plug-in (if you have CS6, skip this section)
    1. If you have CS5 and CS5.1, you are required to download a plug-in to be able to open your PSDX files in Photoshop. If you have CS6, you are not required to download the plug-in (it is native within the version). In a browser on your desktop computer, navigate to the Creative Cloud Homepage ( https://creative.adobe.com ). Sign-in to Creative Cloud using your Adobe ID, then navigate to the Creative Cloud Apps & Services page (https://creative.adobe.com/apps).
    2. Click download under “Touch App Plug-ins” to start the download and install process. Included with the installer is a plug-in for Illustrator CS6, which enables opening of Ideas files (.idea) in Illustrator, and a plug-in for Photoshop CS5 and 5.1, which enables opening of Photoshop Touch files (.psdx) in Photoshop.
    3. You will be asked (if you haven't already) to install the Adobe Application Manager. Follow the steps to install the manager, and the Touch App Plugin should begin the download and installation process. If it does not, click install next to the “Touch App Plugins” icon in the Adobe Application Manager to start the process.
    4. You're all set to start opening your PS Touch files in Photoshop CS6.
    To save a Photoshop Touch file for upload to the cloud.
    1. Launch Photoshop Touch and ensure that you are in the organizer view. (Tap Done in the upper-left corner of the screen to move from edit view to the organizer view.)
    2. Tap to display the share menu.
    3. Select the file(s) to upload
    4. Select the file format to upload to the cloud. Then tap OK.
    5. Once you save the file format, you have a choice to e-mail the file as a attachment, or save a copy. By pressing cancel, it still can be uploaded to the cloud.
    Uploading PS Touch files to the cloud.
    1. Tap the settings button in the top right corner.  Then tap My Account.
    2. Tap Sign in. Sign in with your Adobe ID. To obtain an Adobe ID, go to : https://www.adobe.com/account/sign-in.adobedotcom.html. Once you are signed in, the total storage available in your Creative Cloud is displayed.
    Sync your Photoshop Touch files to the Creative Cloud.
    1. Tap the Creative Cloud icon. Make sure the Sync files toggle is switched to the on position.
    2. When Creative Cloud sync is turned on, you can see your files being synced to your Creative Cloud account.
    Open a Photoshop Touch file in Photoshop
    1. On your desktop computer, launch a browser and navigate to the Creative Cloud website. When you are signed in, navigate to your Photoshop Touch file. Click to select the file.
    2. Tap the download button in the top right corner.
    3. When the download dialog button pops up, select PSD. Once the file has been downloaded, you can open in Photoshop (CS5, CS5.1, CS6) on your desktop.
    4. When the file is opened in Photoshop, it displays its layers (Note: that if the file is dragged and dropped, and NOT downloaded, it will not display the layers).

    Lightroom 5.3 should be able to open D600 RAW photos.
    The problem is most likely that you used some version of Nikon software to transfer the photos to your computer. This interferes with Lightroom's ability to read the files. If the files are still on your camera card, use Lightroom to directly access them from the camera card. If they are not on your camera card, you can still fix the files, see http://forums.adobe.com/message/6181267#6181267

  • Why do certain applications open automatically

    why do certain applications open automatically?

    If you're using Lion, and the apps open automatically when you start up/log in, it's down to one of two things. Either
    a) you had the application open when you shut down last time, or
    b) you have that application set to open automatically.
    If you don't want (a) happening, either quit the application completely before you shut down, or turn off all app resuming through System Preferences - General - untick "Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps".
    If the apps re-open even if you quit them before shutting down, check System Preferences - Accounts - Login Items. Delete any programs from the list that you don't want auto-launching when you log in.

  • EPS file opened in Photoshop

    Please let me know whether the resolution will change when an eps file is opened in Photoshop.
    Is it possible to change the resolution of the eps file opened in photoshop.
    regards,
    Sashi

    If it is a generic eps file you can set the resolution in the EPSOpenOptions. If it is a Photoshop eps file I think you can only change the resolution after it is open because Photoshop has already rasterized the data.

  • Why CS6 cann't open Nikon D800E NEF raw file?

    Why CS6 cann't open Nikon D800E NEF raw file?

    The Nikon D800 was supported from ACR version 6.7 / 7.1. But CS6 shipped with 7.0, so if you've never updated ACR (or reinstalled from disc), they won't open.
    Other than that - have you used an older version of Nikon Transfer or View NX? These will corrupt the NEF header so that ACR can't read them.
    There's a fix here: http://owl.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/fix_corrupted_nef.html

  • JPEG images opened in Photoshop double in file size upon save. Why?

    I've noticed that jpeg files I open in Photoshop (fresh off the sansdisk card) pretty much double in file size (from, say, 3MB to 6MB) after they're saved. This occurs even if I don't change the image size at all and simply save as a jpeg after touching up the levels and sharpness (no major restorative work on the image at all).
    Can anyone explain this to me?

    JPG format saves disk space by using a coding scheme (called huffman) in which small numbers use fewer bits than small numbers. What is saved is differences between neigbor pixels (the idea being that there is usually much similarity between neighbor pixels). Smaller inter-neigbor differences need fewer bits than large differences. When you adjust tonality, the adjusted image most likely uses a bigger portion of the tonal range than the original image did, and the inter-neighbor differences are increased. A sharpness boost also increases differences between neighbor pixels, particularly so if you boost sharpness so much that noise is increased, and more bits are needed to store the differences.
    Another thing is that when you open a JPG image into an image editor, the editor uncompresses the image. When you re-save it, you have to select a compression ratio, and it may not necessarily be the same ratio that the original was compressed with.

  • Pdf file opens in Photoshop Elements.

    I am trying to help a friend download a camera manual that is a pdf file.
    Whether it is from his original disc or from the website it wants to open in Photoshop Elements, and so is unreadable.
    He has Windows XP. How can we change it to open in Word?

    I would say it's like this: Right click on the icon, Propertiers, Open with, make your choice
    (why Word and not Reader if it'sa PDF?)

  • Why can I not open some attached emailed pdf files?

    PLEASE HELP ME! I HAVE TO OPEN THESE FILES MY BUSINESS DEPENDS ON IT! why can I not open some attached pdf files and others are ok?

    PDF files are extremely reliable. You may have a software issue. I have the problem on 2 identical systems with the exact same specs. The problem occurs at the same exact interval. It may be a windows update. We have had to re-install software form the DVD in each instance. This fixes it for awhile and then it recoccurs. Adobe acts as if they have never heard of the problem...imagine that. I'm the only one with th problem.
    This is happens with CS6 volume lic product.
    If you dont own Adobe product it will be even more difficult to find and answer as the reader is used my so many people.
    We know we have the problem again when we double click opn a PDF and nothing happens. SOme have reported that reloading does not fix the problem.
    Wish I could help you. I am looking for answers to this issue right now and phone support is a 30 minute wait.
    Very frustrating.

  • Problems with files opened in Photoshop from Lightroom

    Hi,
    I started editing a large number of files recently and came upon strange problems when sending files to Photoshop from Lightroom:
    1. Sometimes, all edits will be transferred to Photoshop except for the Lens Profile Correction. I tried clearing all changes and starting again, and it didn't work. However, if Lens Profile Correction is the ONLY change I make in Lightroom, it is correctly shown when the file is opened in Photoshop. [EDIT: I thought it was only the Lens Profile Correction, but with some files it appears other edits are disappearing too, such as cropping.]
    2. Sometimes, and I can't seem to find any pattern for this, files I sent to Photoshop will open as only "slices" of images. In fact, there is only one sliver of the image that gets opened. Sometimes it is a vertical line, sometimes a horizontal line, usually about 1/20 as thick as it is long. For that problem, I haven't found a solution yet.
    I am using the latest versions of Lightroom, Photoshop and Camera Raw, with RAW files created with a Nikon D7000 camera, on an iMac from 2011. I have no software or hardware problems apart from this.
    Here's hoping someone can help.
    Thanks!

  • Open an Exported File directly in Photoshop (after exported file created)

    var doc = app.activeDocument;
    var destFolder = Folder ("~/Documents");
    if (destFolder) {
         var fileName = activeDocument.name;
        var destFile = new File(destFolder + '/' + fileName);
        var psdExportOptions = new ExportOptionsPhotoshop();
        // Set PSD export options
        psdExportOptions.saveMultipleArtboards = true;
        psdExportOptions.artboardRange = "1";
        psdExportOptions.antiAliasing = false;
        psdExportOptions.resolution = 300;
        psdExportOptions.embedICCProfile = false;
        psdExportOptions.writeLayers = false;
        psdExportOptions.imageColorSpace = ImageColorSpace.CMYK;
        doc.exportFile (destFile, ExportType.PHOTOSHOP, psdExportOptions);
    This code I created exports my current Ai document as a PSD with set options. It also names the new file what it is called in Ai.
    How can I call the created file and open it directly in Photoshop? Keep in mind I would be working on multiple files, so file names would change every time I ran this Export Script.
    I could call a specifically named file and open that, but that's not what I need this script to do. I just need it to open the newly created PSD file. Any help would be greatly apreciated!!!

    Hi Mark,
    BridgeTalk or for simple commands like this, Interapp communication (Cross-DOM)
    use photoshop.open(fileObject);
    before that you need to build your newly exported file object
         doc.exportFile (destFile, ExportType.PHOTOSHOP, psdExportOptions);
    var psfile = new File(destFolder + '/' + fileName.split('.')[0] + '-01.psd');
    if (psfile.exists) {
         //alert('file exists')
        photoshop.open(psfile);
    else
        alert('file does not exist');

  • Cannot save any file opened in Photoshop CS5

    Hi all, looking for some help...
    I've got a 27-inch Imac running:
    Mac OS X Lion 10.7.1
    Processor: 2.8 GHz Intel Core i5
    Memory: 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
    Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 5750 1024 MB
    Storage: 1TB HD with 920 BG free
    The problem is (thus far) exclusively with Photoshop CS5. I have the latest patch installed (12.0.4). No matter what file I open in Photoshop, I can't save. When I try to save, I get the following error:
    This error occurs regardless of file type chosen, whether I 'save' or save-as' and both if I start a new file or if I try to alter an existing file. I have run disk permissions and disk repair on my mac with no luck thus far. I have googled this issue, and found lots of discussions with a similar issue involving the Photoshop preferences file. So, I deleted my preferences file and started over, no luck there. I have gone through and manually checked for locked files—the files are not locked. I have tried saving in as many locations as I can think of, still no luck.
    This is a legit, updated copy of Photoshop CS5 on a relatively new computer with ample space... and it worked yesterday afternoon! I am wondering if uninstalling and re-installing Photoshop is the answer, but I thought I'd try here first.
    Thanks in advance for your help!
    Lindsay
    PS: I have read this thread: "Could not save because write access was not granted." Unfortunately it doesn't help me, because I can't save-as either, and I am not working off a server.

    Thanks Zeno -- you are the first person ever to answer my question "how big" with a precise amount.
    I have never actually heard of an "exabyte" before and am blown away by its size of a billion gigabytes... there are a number of other interesting size limits according to the text towards the bottom of the Adobe tech note http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/404/kb404439.html for which you sent me the link, but which I have never before been able to get from Adobe tech support.
    An exabyte seemed so big that I needed to confirm it before I could believe it. From various sources including Wikipedia I was able to confirm that...
    1 Exabyte = 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 Bytes = 1018 bytes = 1 billion gigabytes = 1 million terabytes. There's an interesting table of all the names of different data sizes, from kilobyte to yottabyte, at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exabyte
    So if 4 exabytes is the max. size of a PSB file, I think it will just about be big enough for my puny little 16Gb file.
    Thanks again for solving my problem.

  • Can't Open with Photoshop on PSD file

    If I right click on a PSD file and say open with Photoshop CS, it opens Photoshop but doesn't open the image. This also happens when I grag a graphic image to the Photoshop CS icon on the dock. If I right click and say Open with ImageReady, it works. Anyone else have this problem? Should I reinstall Photoshop? I can open Photoshop and then do a File->Open to open the image.
    Thanks,
