Why do certain webpages load on my Macbook, but others won't?

I have a Macbook Pro (mid-2012) that's running on Mountain Lion (10.8.2). Recently, I have had trouble connecting to certain websites.
I can connect quickly and easily to Outlook, Google, Tumblr
Sites such as Facebook, YouTube and Netflix will not load at all
- This is on any of my browsers, Safari, Chrome and Firefox.
- On Chrome I get the frowny paper that says "No data received" after about five minutes of loading
I also cannot connect to apps just as the App Store, however, my Spotify is connected and working just fine (not Unlimited)
My room mates both have Microsoft/Windows computers, and have had absolutely no problem connecting to any and all websites.
I have tried rebooting my computer, uninstalling and reinstalling Chrome/Safari/Firefox, messing with my Firewall and clearing caches and cookies, manually entering my IPv4 address, dis- and re-connecting to my wifi (also forgetting and rediscovering saved networks), restarting my router, and verifying and "fixing" disk permissions and whatnot. I feel like I'm running out of options, because I haven't and won't purchase Applecare, and I don't have the funds ready to just take the computer to Best Buy.
What have I not tried?

Fixed it! I guess that I had installed avast! a few days ago and completely forgotten about it. That seems to be what the problem was, because I uninstalled it and it's working fine now. Thank you though, you rang the bell that reminded me! (:

What do you mean " back up my photos or Apps"?
The photo sync is one way - computer to ipad.
You can transfer itunes purchases.  Without syncing:  File>Transfer Purchases
Copy everything from your backup copy of your old computer to your new one.

  • Why do certain webpages not load

All of a sudden, certain webpages don't load. (Including trying about 3 times to get to this board.) Things seem to be running very slowly, and I've just cleaned my Mac, trying to help. The bar starts to load, then stops halfway, and doesn't do anything else....

  • Trouble with certain webpages loading

A certain webpage that I use for work will no longer load.  It will load on other iPads.

Are you able to share that with us so that someone here can try it and see if it works for us? Or at least share a few more details about the site?
You could try clearing the Cookies and data from Safari - Settings>Safari>Clear Cookies and Data

I have cleared cookies and cache, scanned with Panda and still can't load my banking website. I can load the website with any other browser I've tried with no problems.
This is with Firefox in safe mode and in regular mode.

It sounds as though you have worked through this article: [[Firefox can't load websites but other browsers can]].

  • Why do certain webpages via google searches (YouTube, google images etc) not load when clicked but load upon page refresh?

I had problems with my Firefox browser being too slow so recently reset the browser (preserved my bookmarks but lost all my plugins). Now I find that when I am searching for something in google when clicking on certain links the window goes blank/white and shows a long url across the top (showing the link was pressed from a google search) and only if I refresh the page will the link load up.
Not sure why this is the case and could use some advice.
    Thank you in advance.

  • Why are web pages load so slowly. Some pages won't completely download

Just this afternoon I began have problems with web pages not completely loading. It is happening with Facebook and Espn. I don't know what to do. Please help

Did you happen to download MacKeeper?  That's a real bad program if you did, and could be the cause, and this tip explains what to do about it if you did.  Additionally system cache cleaners, antivirus, and firewall software are not necessary on Mac OS X.       Only download Flash updates from http://www.adobe.com/ websites directly.  Do not use the automatic updater on its own software.   Same thing with Java, go to http://www.java.com/
As there are pretender popup windows that try to get you to update it with their own bad version.
What version of Mac OS X do you have in Apple menu -> About this Mac?

  • Why does certain songs on icloud says purchased and others say waiting

why after making a playlist i have some songs that say purchased and others saying waiting?

Typically it means the file is corrupt. See the following:

  • Parts of webpage load on top of each other

If I shrink print size to 8-with CTL++ I can see the web page properly but it is hard to read. Started 2 weeks ago. The pages used to open in wide screen mode (gmail still does), but now the whole page is cramped into the center third of my computer screen. Also the various parts of web page have VERY different print and picture sizes. I run Win XP sp3, and also am having this problem with netbook running Windows 7

Reset the page zoom on pages that cause problems: <b>View > Zoom > Reset</b> (Ctrl+0 (zero); Cmd+0 on Mac)
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Zoom_text_of_web_pages
If you increased the minimum font size then try the default setting 'none' as a high value can cause issues like you described.
    * Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced > Minimum Font Size (none)
    * Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced > [X] "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above"

  • Why will some pdfs open but others won't?

When I open pdfs in my browser they should open as tabs but some don't. These are not different types - I'm currently doing GCSEs and on one webpage there will be, for example, links to 3 mark schemes, all the same format, same server etc. - but only 1 will open, and it will open immediately and without problems. The other two will come up with the grey screen and bar at the top which should be for pdfs, but nothing happens if I try to use this bar to download the pdfs etc. and the loading bar in the centre of the page does not load. If I refresh a lot, one of these may then open. Some will not open after being left for hours or refreshed many times, however. All of the pdfs open on other computers.
Why is this and how can I solve it?
    Thanks for any suggestions.
Btw, as far as I can see all the pdf extensions etc. are downloaded and installed.

I've attached an image. Are you not seeing the spinning circle and the 'Checking for updates...' message?
In that case you can download Firefox 21.0 from here:
    http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/
Install the file and it will replace your current version. Bookmarks, history etc will be saved.

  • Bought iMovie '11 for a Mountain Lion iMac and want iMovie '11 for snow Leopard MacBook but it won't download for Macbook?

    Hello:
I have an iMac that I recently upgraded to Mountain Lion.  I bought iMovie '11 after upgrading to Mountain Lion.  I also have a MacBook Pro but don't want to upgrade to Mountian Lion 'cause I don't want to loose Front Row.  So I tried to buy and install iMovie from the App Store on the MacBook Pro (Snow Leopard) but when I try to buy it it says that I can't buy it or run on on Snow Leopard it must be on Mountain Lion?  Is there any way to get the down version of iMovie '11 for Snow Leopard from the App Store?  I already paid for this version online.
    Thanks,
    mn3

My guess is that you are out of luck. The latest requirements for iMovie '11, as listed on the App Store, are "OS X 10.7.4 or later". In other words, iMovie '11 (in it's latest iteration) will work only on Lion or Mountain Lion (or later).
My wife's iMac is on Snow Leopard OS X 10.6.8 and is running iMovie '11 version 9.0.4. Checking for updates returns the message that iMovie is up to date. So it appears that the last version to run on Snow Leopard is 9.0.4 - hence why you can't download 9.0.8 to Snow Leopard from the App Store. Perhaps you can purchase a boxed version of iLife '11 somewhere (possibly eBay) that has an earlier version of iMovie '11.

Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
All these programs have free versions.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.
