Why Do Certain Websites display fonts wrong in Firefox 4?

Some fonts on certain sites display wrong and I can't seem to fix it. I have clear type turned on. I've attached a link to an screen grab to show my issue. Any help appreciated.

@cor-el That doesn't seem to help the font replacement issue. It's still replacing the standard fonts with non-standard fonts. Right now, Firefox is now using "Helvetica Helvetica Neue Extended Thin", instead of Helvetica/Arial as defined in the CSS file(s).
As soon as I delete "Helvetica Neue Extended Thin" from my computer, it will display the correct font for a few minutes, and then automatically change it to another strange Helvetica font variant. That's the issue...

You can try a few different encoding settings: "View > Character Encoding" like Western ISO-8859-1 or another Western encoding or UTF-8
You can also try to switch on Auto-Detect: "View > Character Encoding > AutoDetect > Universal"
A diamond with a '?' usually indicates that a character is missing in the font that is used on a website or the wrong encoding is used.
You get the '?' on websites that use an 8 bit encoding like ISO-8859-1 or a Windows encoding like Windows-1252.
This issue can happen if content was copied from one 8 bit or Unicode encoding to another encoding.

Why do some websites display text in Mozilla overlap ?

the right side text overlaps and is not readable. However in IE, the same page displays normally. How can I get Mozilla to display all website landing pages to display one line of text per line?

Reset the page zoom on websites that look wrong: "View > Zoom > Reset" (Ctr + 0 (zero))

If you increased the minimum font size then try a lower setting (default is none) as a too high value can cause issues like you described.

Certain websites display

When I try to load certain websites on firefox, the whole thing looks really messed up. The website will be columned and left sided. Its not just one website but others as well and yet it will have no problem displaying other websites just fine.

Certain websites display with text only all on left with no images. Ive followed help page troubleshooting tips. Help?

I cannot seem to see certain websites "full" site. On Ebay...I only see text all piled up on left. If I click thru enough I can see an image but I want the full site. Not the second class citizen version. Also same with Netflix. Amazon is great. I've troubleshooted and cleared cookies and cache. I reset and now I'm using safe mode with add ons disabled but still nothing helps.
BTW...I'm very untechnical. Im using a laptop with Windows Vista OS if that helps.
Id also like to be able to use my amazon prime account to stream videos but naturally nothing shows up.

Why do certain websites default to bottom of page upon opening?

When I am opening up sites like REI.com and mountainhardwear.com the web page defaults to the bottom of the page. It only happens on certain websites. I can open gmail, hotmail, amazon - and it stays at the top of the page.

And.... I reverted to Firefox v 11.0 and the problem disappeared. So Mozilla needs to address this issue with javascript before releasing v 13. Version 12 is a no-go for me. Not sure what the exact cause is, but it's a problem in 12, not 11, so something was changed that needs to be fixed.

Why are some websites turning hot pink in Firefox? In IE it's fine. I can't read text and buttons are missing as well as some photos. It's really difficult and I've already checked my Color settings. Help?

I've recently tried to make the switch to Firefox as we all know IE is unsafe and my computer was almost lost to a virus. However, it's been difficult as I can't log into my e-mail (after thirty seconds I get kicked back to the login page) and some screens come up as a violently pink color with pale blue font. Links disappear and often times the wording is rewritten in Times font over a button. Pictures disappear and simply say where the photo came from (like "Photo courtesy of the AP") I've tried to adjust settings but it's not helping any.

You can check the default color settings:

Also make sure that "Allow pages to choose their own colors, instead of my selections above" has a check mark.

Why is Preview not displaying fonts correctly?

Since the last Snow Leopard upgrade, Preview is not displaying some fonts correctly. I checked to see if the fonts were embedded in the PDF (by resorting to Adobe Acrobat 5... which is not displaying them correctly either) and they are True Type with Windows encoding which as far as I know Preview OS X should be able to handle.
I tried deleting the Preview preferences in User/Library/Prefeerences and restarting but this made no difference. The same PDF works perfectly though on an old iMac that is running OS X Tiger!!!

Well I found a few minor font problems which seem to have cropped up since the last system upgrade, but none of those were the font in question. Also, as I understand it, the whole point of PDF documents is that the fonts are embedded in the document so you do not have to have the fonts installed on your computer to view the PDF properly. I use a lot of special fonts and when I save documents as a PDF I can send them to anyone on the internet and they can usually see everything as it is meant to be.

Why does the website display white blank pages only?

I use Firefox 13.0.1 on a Mac OS X, and I often go to www.wenxuecity.com for news. But, in the past couple of days, when I type in that address in the URL window, only a white blank page shows up. Nothing else! If I use Google to find direct links to a few news items at that website and click the links, I also get white blank pages. No error message or anything else.
Could you tell what is going on here?

Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot.
You can also try to check the Net log in the Web Console (Web Developer > Web Console;Cmd+Shift+K) to see if that bring up errors about loading files.

You need to reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh all files with the Web Console panel open.

Why are certain websites telling me I need to enable cookies? I've deleted cookies.sqlite, cleared the history, and set custom settings for history to allow cookies and I am still getting this message.

I am on 3.6.17. Please don't tell me to upgrade. I shouldn't need to upgrade to solve a cookie problem.

There is usually no need to enable third-party cookies. Only some websites needs them enabled. E.g. you can't logout properly from Hotmail unless third-party cookies are enabled, but apart from that Hotmail (Windows Live) works without problems. You usually notice it when you have to enable third-party cookies because the website gives a warning. You end up with a lot of extra cookies if third-party cookies are enabled, so I keep them disabled and remove the live.com cookies myself in this case.

Why are certain websites causing my mac to crash?

I have recently just purchased my first mac and on the whole am very happy with it. However when browsing the internet certain web pages cause my mac to become unresponsive. All my software is up to date. The problem occurs when i'm using safari and so far it's just 4OD (channel4.com) and myspace that have caused this problem. The mouse either freezes completely or turns into the spinning colour wheel and the keyboard shortcut for force quit does not work. I cannot use the dashboard as it doesn't appear even if I can move the mouse over to its area and the time in the top right corner of the screen stops too. All i can do is hold down the power key and then reboot the whole thing. Any ideas as to what might be causing this? Also I looked at the crash reports to see what they said and there aren't even any there!

Why are my transitions displaying the wrong portion of the clip?

I am working on a short film, and am having trouble with several of my transitions. After editing the sequence in Premiere, I performed the color grading via direct link to SpeedGrade. The Lumetri effects from Speedgrade are applied to an adjustment layer on a separate track above the original video clips. If I have problems with the transitions (all cross dissolves) in my timeline. When any of them start, they all transition to a later point in the second clip. As soon as the transition ends, it cuts to the proper point in the second clip. I hope that makes sense. If I disable the adjustment layer, everything looks fine (other than the grades are not visible, obviously). Removing the transition from the adjustment layer track eliminates the problem, but then there is an obvious cut from the previous grade to the next.
I did not notice the problem when I edited the sequence in Premiere, it was in Speedgrade that I first noticed it, and it shows up back in Premiere now.
I have no idea what could be causing this problem. I have never worked with adjustment layers before, and don't know much about them. Is there something I don't know that I should?

Note: I am using the CC 14 versions of both programs.

I tried that: I shortened the end of the outgoing clip and lengthened the beginning of the incoming clip, so that a centered cross dissolve occupies the same space:
The problem still persists. For this particular transition, the transition shows a frozen frame from the incoming clip, instead of a portion of the video like mentioned above.
I have also tried deleting the render files for the transition; no luck. Could it be some sort of bug or glitch in the program?

I went into my wireless phone account to black a phone number. Blocking the phone number doesn't work in Firefox 33, but it does work in IE 11. Why doesn't it work in Firefox 33?

After opening a certain website, I can't close firefox anymore

I opened a website in google and I got a tiny webpage saying: This page on http://protectremovevirusxpnow.com says: Windows Security has found critical process activity on your system and will perform fast scan of system files. The only button you can press is OK. I have no windows running on my MAC. Also the tabs are gone, except the tab Firefox. But you can't close firefox. The only thing I can do is to shutdown the whole computer by the powerbutton. What can I do?

I have the same problem. Don't know what to do though so not entirely helpful there! But I found the same issue on this thread - https://support.mozilla.com/is/questions/811477 - although none of the answers are particularly useful for mac users, there might be a slight chance that someone will resolve the problem in the near future.
Also, after rebooting my mac, it seems the pop up window with the message 'Windows Security has found ........' didn't pop again.

Can't Access Certain Website in either Safari or Firefox.

FYI, I have a G5 Power PC, 1.8 GHZ, operating Mac OS 10.5.4. My internet connectivity is wireless via Airport Extreme through Comcast modem. I have been unable to connect to Microsoft Office download page for updates. When attempting to connect using either Safari or Firefox, I get message "Safari can't open download.miicrosft.com because Safari can't find server...". I contacted Microsoft support for help. They said problem was that Comcast was blocking the port access. Comcast stated they do not block ports and that Airport Extreme may be blocking said port.
This is the only website that I have experienced any problems accessing. Does anyone have any ideas. I have searched the discussion forums, repaired permissions, etc., but have had no luck resolving this problem. Any help would be appreciated.

I do not have any problem accessing the internet via Airport Extreme. I am only having trouble accessing this particular website. I initially contacted Microsoft Support for an explanation and help in gaining access to their download site. After I contacted Comcast, who told me they did not block any ports, Microsoft Support suggested that the problem was with Airport Extreme. Although I was doubtful of this proposal, I am trying to eliminate it as the source of my difficulties. Since 1) I have not had trouble accessing other sites, and 2) you informed me that Comcast DOES block ports, I am more inclined to believe the problem lies with Comcast and not with Airport Extreme.
Do you have any suggestions as to how I might get Comcast to unblock this port, in the face of their denying that they block ports?
