Why do folders change location and shape after shutdown and boot?

I want folders on the desktop to stay in the same location, not default to the center of the screen.

Why does iCal change Location? Can it be stopped?

I'm using iCal v8.0 (2026), and VERY frustrated that it changes the location field on it's own, OMITTING important information. WHY? HOW CAN IT BE STOPPED FROM THIS BEHAVIOR?
Example: I enter this into the location field:
741 Gardenview Ct #203
Encinitas CA 92024
And iCal changes it to this (out of my sight, after closing the detail window):
741 Gardenview Ct
Encinitas CA 92024
OK, you might ask why I care. Because when I get to the address, I need to know the suite number to go to. What if the building is massive, with hundreds of suites. I knew the suite number when I created the iCal entry. So my workaround is to put the suite number into the name of the event. But that's so awkward, silly and WRONG.
Does anyone at Apple know about this, or care?
Please help!

Oops, I didn't notice. iCal has changed names, and now is called Calendar. I have Calendar 8.0 and am running Yosemite, OS X 10.10.1

Trouble changing location and account details

I just relocated to the UAE am trying to change my location and account details on my iPhone 4S but its not letting me do so...can anyone help me out?

Changing Location and Outgoing mail server

When I change Location, I need to change the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) (my ISP blocks mail traffic). Is there a way to make the smtp server different for each Location you have defined? Right now, I have to manually switch the Mail.app preferences each time I connect to a new Location, or wait for Mail.app to try to send the mail at which point it puts up a failure dialog where I can change the outgoing server for that message.

It would be nice to define an SMTP server for each account depending on the ISP being used for connecting to the internet and even better, the computer determining the ISP being used for connecting to the internet and automatically making the appropriate SMTP server change for each account but computers aren't quite there or that smart yet.

The script to use from the collection of scripts is Change SMTP Server (Mail) which provides for switching between different already defined SMTP servers or define a new one. This is especially useful if you are using your computer in more than one location and have to switch servers for several accounts at once.
At least this script makes it a little easier.

I lived in NZ and have moved to the USA. I have to spend all the funds in my account before I can change location... its down to 40cents!!! How do I spend 40cents to change my details??? or maybe there is another way???

A couple of seconds after shutdown my fan at the rear of the machine starts. and does not stop until I unplug power at the socket. The fan is almost as loud as a bathroom hand dryer..... Yup !? Any one out ther with any ideas please help. Mac support were sweet but pretty ineffectual.

Folders changing names and MS Office non-functional

What would cause my mac (OS 10.6.8) to have changed the names of all of the main folders (Trash>N39, Devices>SD5, etc.) and simultaneously my MS office applications 'quit unexpectedly' upon startup?

I just fired off a lengthy e-mail with bad news. But other folks here may benefit from my response, so I'm posting it here as well:
Yup, that definitely looks like you're infected with Flashback. And it looks like it has changed enough that F-Secure's removal instructions aren't working anymore. Flashback is a rather troublesome trojan... it has persisted for some time, but there's not a lot of information out there about EXACTLY what it does or how to get rid of it. And unfortunately, one of the things that it does is insert malicious code into other apps on your system. I suspect this is part of why your Office apps are crashing.
At this point, I think you would be best advised to erase the hard drive and reinstall the system. You'll need to back up all your documents first (get your entire home folder), then reboot from your Mac OS X install disk (insert the disk, restart and, after the chime sounds, hold down 'c' until the Apple logo appears). Choose your language, then choose Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. In Disk Utility, select your hard drive and click the Erase tab, then just click the Erase button.
When Disk Utility is done, just quit and it should dump you back into the Mac OS X installer. Proceed with the installation. When asked if you want to import data or applications, do not do that! Set up the computer as if it were the first time you used it. Once it's up and running, open Software Update and get everything updated. If there's no Java update in the list of updates, download it and install it manually from:

Once all that is done, you can reinstall all your other applications, and finally, copy your documents - and only your documents! - from the backup to your new home folder. For any special data, like Mail data or your iTunes library, see:

That page is 5 years old, and thus a little outdated, but still mostly good. Don't copy anything you don't have to from that list, though.
Finally, when you're all done, change your password on any online accounts... e-mail, bank sites, Facebook, anything you have accessed from the infected computer.
Ultimately, this may all sound extreme, but keep in mind that the purpose of the Flashback trojan is to steal information from you that can be used to steal from you. The more you use the computer while it is infected, the more information you may be giving the thieves who created Flashback!

Firefox add on forecaster is not change locations and is not showing up in add on bar yet is shows it its installed

I'm using a desktop computer that I built using windows 7. I'm using the latest Firefox browser 5.0.1 and decided to customize it. I installed a persona and a pop up blocker with no problem. When I install forecaster it appears to install but the location doesn't change from default and when I look in the add on bar its not there. I know that is where it appears because its installed on my laptop there and my desktop computer I use at work.

Change location and plant for Internal Goods/services

Hi all,
I want to change the plant and location information of product/material for SC item selected from Internal goods/services.
I am changing the plant and location - ( partner function 75 ) in doc change badi but its getting reset to originial value .
Even if i see item check the value is getting replaced with original value.
My question is can I change Plant/location for item selected from Internal goods/services. I could succesfully change the value when I selected item from catalog.
Please suggest.

yes I have assignned the plant i mean BE_plant in the specified badi.
But still its getting overwritten. So im guessing is that possible for internal goods/services.

I changed locations and now I can't just plug in and surf.

I was at location A and could just plug in the ethernet cable and surf the net. I was on a trip and plugged into a hotel ethernet connection (location B).
Now I am in location C and when I plug in a working ethernet cable, I cannot just surf the net. There is no connection at all.
Has location B changed my settings? I would really like to just get back the factory ones if it were possible, so i could plug in and surf wherever I go.
Any help to solve this?

A lot depends on the system.. If it automatically issues an IP address you can usually plug and play. If it doesn't the person that controls the system must issue you an address and you must enter it manually. These setting are in Network under *System Preferences* . Talk to the sys admin for location C for what to do to use their system.

Why does font change suddenly and become bold when replying to email

I really could use some help here.
When I reply to an email, no matter what font I am using, within a few lines it switches to a different font and goes bold. Why does this continue to happen? I tried going to Insert, selecting HTML and placing <style type="text/css"> body {font: 12pt Tahoma;} </style> it works but it has to be done for every email I reply to. Thank you ahead of time.

Satellite 5100-503: Changing HDD and booting questions

My harddisk in my Satellite 5100 broke down and I want to change it.
According to various messages in the forum, it is not possible to boot the 5100 from a CD when there is a (new) harddisk in the machine. And the only way to change the boot sequence is via Windows - which does not work anymore - there is no other way to change BIOS parameters than inside Windows.
I have looked in the manual - I cannot find any mentioning of pressing F12 or C or any other combination to change boot sequence (I have of course tried nevertheless to no avail). The only thing one I have found possible is to press ESC + F1 to _restore_ default BIOS settings. And powering up pressing the key left of the space bar gives me the possibility of flashing a new BIOS.
Is it really so? Since that would mean I'm stuck. And in that case I'll simply save the money for the new harddisk and throw out my laptop... (and probably by another brand next time - but I sincerely hope it isn't so...)

Oookay. So after pressing F12 at boot time I have to use the _cursor_ keys to move the thin line that looked like an error symbol beneath the graphical symbols, I should have guessed that...
Sigh. I liked the old text approach better.
Anyway. I'm now booting from the CD and I'm installing windows on my new HDD, happy happy.

Use the range selection tool and select the portion of the clip you want to change the volume on. Drag the volume line down and FCP will create keyframes which you can adjust as you want to get a fade shape.

I don´t see the folders image, music and videos on my FINDER

I have a new MacBook pro, but I was wondering why the folders IMAGES, MUSIC and VIDEOS are not in the FINDER?

the finder only have the favorites folder, however the icons of MUSIC, VIDEOS and IMAGES are not in this list... so I don´t know where to save the music, photos, etc... this is my 1st experience with a macbook.
I hope you can help me...
