Why do fonts look different in PDFs?

When I save a Microsoft office document (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), one font does not appear correctly in the PDF. What do I do?

You use Microsoft Office programs to save the docs as PDFs?  If so, no Adobe software is involved; you should ask in the appropriate Microsoft Office forum.

  • Why do fonts looks different between Photoshop and devexpress winform

    Hi,
I am creating a mock ups in PSD using font Verdana 10
when the developers using the same font on DevExpress win-forms the results looks extreme different.
can you help me understand why this is happening?
    Thanks a lot,
    Anat

The glyphs are described by mathematical functions, there is no ambiguity if it is the same font.
If the text is immediately embedded as a raster graphic (opposed to keeping text as vector in
an exported PDF), then it is impossible to represent the accurate shape by only few pixels
(10pt, 72ppi: very few pixels; 10pt, 288ppi; four times more in both directions).
Therefore Photoshop can apply anti-aliasing: None, Sharp, Crisp, Strong, Smooth. The names
don't say much, but the appearance is different. You may try which mode is your best choice.

  • Why do colors look different in PDF saved from Powerpoint with glow?

When I save a Microsoft Powerpoint (2008 for Mac) Presentation as PDF, then view the PDF with Preview (application on Mac) it looks right.
But when I view it with Adobe Reader, the color is off (it looks dim like there is a gray screen over it) on any page with glow.
? Can anyone tell me why this happens, or how I can get the colors to look the same as the original Powerpoint?
    Thank you!

  • MY FONT LOOKS DIFFERENT IN INDESIGN PAGES PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Hello, I have a majo problem here. I have all my pages written in one font, Arial Narrow, however the width of the font looks different from page to page, it looks bold on page 1 and 2, and on page 3 it looks fine,  is there any invisible setting applied to the whol page? why does it look bold? I did try toprint them, they do look different, also, there is no stroke  set, i checked, and color is set to black not registration. Is there anything else I am missing???? Please help!!!!

Transparency isn't something you would adjust, per se.
Imported art may have transparency in it (like a transparent background), or you may have applied an effect like a glow or a drop shadow, or used a blending mode (all of which are transparency effects) on an object on your document page, or even adjusted an object's opacity in the effects panel to make the background show through (this is true tranparency inthe classic sense). Any of these things will result in ID redrawing the page and "emboldening" the type on that page.
There is no way to remove the eefect other than to remove the transparency from the page (if you are showing the icons for it in the pages panel, whcih you set in the panel options, you'll see a small checkerboard next to the page icon in the panel if there is transparency in use). To assure that all pages look the same if you are going to use transparency on any page, you can add a transparent object to the master page.

  • Firefox fonts look different from Chromiums

Hi, my Firefox fonts look different than the ones Chromium uses:
Left is Firefox, right is chrome. As you can see, the placement of characters is somewhat different.
This is NOT the issue mentioned on the Firefox Wiki page, at least it is not fixed with the fontconfig.
    What happens here?
    Thank you,
    Jan Oliver

I have "serif" , "sans serif" and "monospace" in the selections, "serif" being the default.
I applied the fix from here, and it did smoothen the fonts, but the letter placing is still bad as in the screenshot.

  • Fonts looks different in Illustrator. Why?

I'm making a web menu on illustrator and i've noticed that the font that i'm using looks different (thinner) in Illustrator (preview or export) than it does on a Word Processor or in a Web Site ( http://wordmark.it).
What can i do to get the same look?
Im using Gill Sans , Light , Size : 25.
I'll attach an image so you can notice the difference.
    Thanks!

There are two settings you should look at one ins in the general tabof the Illustrator Preferences Anti-Alias which you should turn on then in the save for the web in the image tab select Type Optimize from the pull down.
    here are the differences
    No anti alias
    Anti Alias
Save for the web abd device no optimization

  • Create DNG Profile - Why does it look different in the DNG Editor vs LR/ACR?

Hi everyone, I am sorry if this has been covered before -- perhaps you could give me a link to the relevant info.
I have a client who shoots with a Leica DMR.  The reds are way to saturated and magenta.  We created a new camera profile in the DNG editor using a color-checker chart, shot at D6500 and Tungsten.  Looks great, and Lightroom recognizes it.  The issue:  when we look at a photograph in the DNG editor with this profile, it looks much better.  When we look at the same photograph in LR/ACR with the profile selected, the reds are still too saturated and magenta (though way better than without our profile).  Why would a photo look different in the two applications, with the same profile?
    As shown in DNG Editor:
    As shown in LR:
Thank you for any light you can shed on this.
    Laura Shoe

Here is an additional comparison further highlighting the magenta issue (amongst others).  Shot with Leica R9 w/DMR(firmware1.3) using Leica Vario-Elmarit-R 35-70mm at ISO 100, f/4.8, 1/60.  Manual WB=4912K, no Exp Comp.
Here is screen shot of same DNG image. Un-altered in either app., no presets, no sharpening, or noise reduction.  CaptureOne (v4.8.3) on the left, and LR2 (v2.6)
Here is what the above screen shot looks like thru CS3:
you must click on image to see CS3 rendering - browser is not accurate
    Anyone no what's going on?
PS the images were shot just shy of perfect focus to test sharpening in both apps, same levels applied to both images (C1 on left, LR on right).  Here are the results:

Last night i held a presentation and used Keynote. When i have switched my macbook back on this morning the fonts on my screen look different blurred and larger and ideas how i can get my screen to revert back to normal?

  • Font looks different from page to page - InDesign

The font looks BOLD in page 1 but looks correct in page 2/3.  The font is exactly the same (from what I can tell).  It also seems to be a page thing, because I can drag the font to page 2/3 and it looks correct.  Drag it back to page 1 and it looks bold.

Is there an image, or an element with an applied effect on the page that is displaying a bold font? If so, try putting the text on its own separate layer.
As a side note, in the future you'll get quicker and more useful help on questions regarding specific problems by posting in the primary product forums. The InDesign forum can be found here: http://forums.adobe.com/community/indesign

  • Why do fonts look better on the stage?

I have a paragraph of text on the stage that looks good (Helvetica Neue, Ultralight), but when I play the movie it looks much thinner and really bad. Why does the text on the stage not match the movie?

If it is static text and you are using a dynamic textfield, try changing it to a static textfield.  Also, you may want to try different anti-aliasing settings for the textfield (via the properties panel).  If you are doing anything to filter the text, such as applying a drop shadow, this can also impact the appearance.  If all else fails, try a different font.

  • Why do fonts show different on monitor?

I'm creating a PDF out of Indesign CS4. There are some paragraphs formatted bold, which show up differently on the monitor.
This appears also when I take a screenshot, so does not depend on the monitor itself.
Also, both are based on the same paragraph style, so basically no setup differences.
    The printouts match!
Can anybody tell me, why this happens?
    Many thanks!
P.S.: Seemed as if the figure was modified a little bit by upload restrictions, so
    here's another one:

  • I'm a new user. My fonts look different on different browser!

    Hi,
I have created a simple site and the fonts that i use in dreamweaver appears different on different browser after i uploaded the page.
Can anyone please tell me why?
i tried uploading the truetype fonts too but didn't work.
    Please help? Thanks alot.
    cheers

Are you using web safe fonts?  If you are not, then different browsers can render the text differently. There is no need for you to upload any fonts.
The problem arises too, if someone hasn't got a font that you may have used, their computer will use the default font in their browser.
    Here's a list of web-safe fonts:
    http://www.ampsoft.net/webdesign-l/WindowsMacFonts.html
If this isn't the issue, then maybe post a link to the problem pages.

  • Font Size problem : Swing font looks smaller than pdf font

    Hi
I'm facing a problem with font size in my swing application. I'm showing some text with a certain predefined font size. Using the same font size and type on same m/c, I 'm generating some pdf text.
The problem is that the text in swing looks smaller than the same text in pdf. Is there a way to achieve
    consistency in font sizes.

please don't cross-post.  pick the appropriate forum and use it.  close your cross-thread.

  • Need help identifying why my fonts look horrible

I reinstalled Arch on my desktop, but forgot to backup my font configuration files.  I had Monaco set up very nicely before, but now it looks horrible on my new install, and I can't really see what I'm doing wrong. As far as I know, I was just using the ttf-monaco, freetype2-infinality and fontconfig-infinality (w/ osx2 style) packages, and then modified the infinality.conf file (with emboldened Monaco) and Xresources.

Also, bold isn't showing up in termite but does in gvim? Not sure why that's happening.

grepping for "font" in the termite git log, I stumbled upon this:
    commit a05fdcd4d15316f258175e9a526058bad2c8e7ea
    Author: Simon Gomizelj <[email protected]>
    Date:   Sat Nov 23 20:37:18 2013 -0500
        better warning for no browser
    ...skipping...
Config option to enable/disable bold font
which suggests that a feature to do exactly that (disable bold fonts) has been introduced to the termite codebase. I haven't used termite myself, but either reverting to an older revision than a05fdcd4d15316f258175e9a526058bad2c8e7ea or just enabling bold faces through the said config option could be a solution to your problem.

  • How does Safari handle fonts? Because the fonts looks different

    Hi,
I "developped" (please don't laugh) a webpage in Firefox.
    http://test.patrickeischen.com
Safari however changes the font, font-size and line-height which is not what I want. Does Safari handle the fonts different that other browsers?
    Patrick

I think the problem is with an error in this line in the CSS:
    font: small/1.75em , Tahoma, "Trebuchet MS", Verdana, sans-serif;
There should not be a comma after "small/1.75em". That line should read:
    font: small/1.75em Tahoma, "Trebuchet MS", Verdana, sans-serif;
Other web browsers are probably being forgiving about that error and interpreting that line of CSS as it is intended, while Safari is balking at that error and ignoring everything after the comma that doesn't belong.
I noticed that error when I was skimming through the CSS looking for your font declarations. But you can also find it by running the W3C CSS validator, a very handy tool when working on web sites, along with the W3C HTML validator. While these won't in themselves help you understand everything there is to know about web coding errors and browser display differences, using them to minimize or eliminate your coding errors often helps narrow down other problems as well.
