Why do hyperlinks not work when Firefox loads a new web page?

Today, for no apparent reason and for the first time ever in years of using Firefox, I am finding that when a new page loads I cannot select any of the hyperlinks on the page. This is happening on 90% or more of pages I access. If I navigate to a different application (using Alt+Tab for instance) and back to Firefox, the hyperlinks will work. But if I select one of them and a new page loads, I am back to being unable to click on hyperlinks.
This is manifested by the cursor remaining as an arrow and not changing to a pointy hand when hovering over hyperlinks. It also seems to affect the ability to use the GUI buttons and the minimise/restore/maximise/close buttons in the top left corner of the title bar. Ribbon menu items, curiously, seem to work as normal, except that if I open, say, tools/options, I will have to navigate away from Fireox and back again, before being able to use the Options window that opens. It also prevent me from selecting other tabs. And I'm even having trouble using the Mozilla Support Forum form to post this question.
I have tried running Firefox in safe mode and reinstalling the software, all to no effect
== nothing in particular happened

Do you have that problem when running in the Firefox SafeMode?

    Lots of WIFI needs a username and password to get access. I guess you're lucky and yours is set up unsecured.
    Normal secured WiFi requires only a password to get access. The password is used to encrypt traffic between your device and the WiFi access point. If whatever you are using requires a username as well then it is not simply normal secured WiFi. It might be a subscription WiFi service like GOGO, ATT, etc., or a service with authentication, i.e., college campus, etc. To help you out we need to know what you are using and what connection dialog you are being presented with. You don't have exactly the same problem as the original poster. He is having a problem entering a password into the password dialog that iOS presents when one tries to connect to a normal secured WiFi network. Could you clarify exactly which WiFi service you are using.

  • Picture hyperlinks not working when published? Please help....

    Some of the hyperlinks to my pictures do not work when I publish to my folder. I´ve tried to empty Safaris cache but it still doesn´t work. Please help me, pretty urgent....

    hi briebrie,
    this is common mistake, see my post in this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=4004970#4004970
    The work around is to leave iWeb default nav bar and header enabled, add your home made nav bar (outside/below of iWeb default nav bar).
    Then turn off iWeb nav bar and header when you are done.

  • Why does it take 15minutes for firefox to open a web page??

    why does it take 15 minutes for firefox to open a web page???????

    Have you tried to eliminate everything extraneous. In other words, do you experience the same delays with a simple Java program (no lookups, JNDI) that loads the drivermanager and creates a connection.
    Do you have access to a traciong JVM or some program that captures run-time execution timing information? Even without the source, this will tell you the specific class::methos where time is spent so you can better determine where the delay is ocurring.

  • When Firefox 5 opens the web page is too wide for the window and only half is displayed. How can I correct this?

    The web page is offset to the right so that only the left half is visible in the Firefox window. As soon as I start to re-size the window (bottom RH corner) the page snaps into place and all is ok. It only happens when I launch the browser.
    I did not experience this with version 4.

  • Why does hotmail not work when I open it with firefox?

    When I open firefox in safe mode hotmail is functional but when I open firefox normally hotmail does not work. I can't seem to find out what add ons I have.

    Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
    *Do not click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Safe+Mode
    If it does work in Firefox Safe-mode then disable all extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one extension at a time until the problem reappears.
    Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

  • Temporary Hand Tool is not working when Firefox is open

    Hi guys
    Hopefully some of you can help me with a problem that has annoyed me for quite some time now..
    Quite often my temporary hand tool (accessed by pressing the space bar) is not working which causes me to move objects instead of panning around my  Photoshop canvas. I don't know what causes it, but when I shut down my browser (Firefox 3.6.19) everything returns to normal in Photoshop and I can pan around the canvas again using the hand tool by pressing the spacebar shortcut.
    When I open reopen Firefox I can use the space bar short cut but only for a few minutes and the problem occurs again. The regular hand tool (accessed by pressing H) is working fine all the time.
    This is a shortcut that I use so very much and would really like to know how to fix this issue.
    I'm using Photoshop CS5 and Mac OS X 10.6.8
    Aske

    So Firefox or something loaded in Firefox is eating key events.
    You need to start troubleshooting Firefox.  The first step would be to disable add-ons in Firefox.  Also let the Mozilla folks know that Firefox is causing this (I believe they've had similar bugs before).

  • Why do hyperlinks not work anymore

    I use Adobe XI reader.
    I have in one PDF several hyperlinks to mp3 files in the same directory as the PDF and one hyperlink to a Youtube URL.
    They all used to work.
    The mp3 hyperlinks called the Windows Media Player.
    The YouTube URL calls the browser.
    But now, the mp3 hyperlinks do not work anymore.
    The Youtube URL still works.
    The mp3 hyperlinks appear to be correct.
    I have downloaded Adobe Reader XI again but that makes no difference.
    Please Help!
    Jan van Puffelen

    *     I downloaded both files and moved them to My Documents.
    *     I tried to start the mp3 from the pdf
    *     It did not work and gave the error message after the initial
    warning:
    *     Cannot find the file C:\440Hz_44100Hz_16bit_05sec.mp3
    *     I experimented a bit and I only got it to work when I moved the mp3
    to C:\Documents and Settings.
    *     Then the example works both with Safe Mode switched off as well as
    on.
    I created a test pdf as well, called CD1.pdf
    In my case the hyperlink in the PDF points to:
    file:///C|Documents and Settings/Jan/Mijn Documenten/Spaans, Maçonnieke
    Muziek, CD1.mp3
    Both pdf and mp3 are in the same directory.
    If Safe Mode is switched on, it does not work at all without any error
    message
    If Safe Mode is switched off, it works, however, it does not call the
    Windows Media Player but the Browser.
    In the CD1.doc version the hyperlink works correctly, it calls the Windows
    Media Player
    Can I send you my test doc, pdf en mp3?

  • HTTPS hyperlinks not working when report exported to PDF

    Hi,
    I have the following problem - I have a https link in the report, which works properly when the report is exported to HTML, Excel, DOC, but no hyperlink is rendered when the report is exported to PDF.
    Important: When http:// or mailto: are used in the hyperlink, then the PDF export renders the link correctly. Only https does not render properly and only in PDF.
    I am using Crystal Reports Basic for Visual Studio 2008. The following 2 dlls are referenced in the .net application:
    CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine 10.5.3700.0
    CrystalDecisions.Shared 10.5.3700.0
    Thanks in advance for any hints!
    Br,
    Leon

    Update
    I did a little more testing and it worked for me because my Text field said https://mail.google.com and the hyperlink in the background was also https://mail.google.com. Once I updated the Text object to read Gmail it failed like yours did.
    I suspect this is something that spilled over from version 10. Crystal Reports Basic is built on the version 10 runtime and the issue may have been fixed in version 10 but missed for CR Basic. I have a feeling this works without error in XI R2 and 2008.

  • Drag and Drop not working when Firefox is open

    I kept running into the problem and could not figure out why sometimes i could drag and drop and sometimes i could not.
    I just did some experimenting and found that as long as Firefox is minimized, drag and drop works fine.
    So the application can be open but all the windows need to be minimized.
    here is my firefox info Mozilla/5.0 Firefox/3.0.13

    I am having the same problem glasnostic you are not imagining things.
    I usually have finder set to detailed view mode and intermittently and seemingly randomly drag and drop will not work. I will be moving specific files from folder a to b then, all of a sudden, I click on a file like i did the last 10 and it wont budge. I found that like glasnostic switching to thumbnail view sometimes makes it work immediately. Otherwise just waiting a minute or two and trying again makes it work. This is so bizarre and is driving me crazy.
    I have experienced the same problem while attempting to drag files from finder into itunes.
    It happens to me without firefox open or running.
    The most recent time this happened I had open the following:
    -itunes (8.2.1)
    -Transmission (1.73)
    -ichat (4.08)
    -Safari (4.03)
    -Last.fm (1.542)
    on osx 10.5.8
    I'm using the logitech g5 mouse.

  • Flash plugin works well on Chrome, but why it does not work on Firefox? :(

    I've updated Flash Player quite a number of times, but whenever I try to play a video on Youtube or any other websites, the same line of words appears asking me to download Flash Player. I've got the Adobe Flash Player installed not long ago and it works just well on Chrome. The flash plugin in Internet Explorer is not working too..
    please help ~

    Google Chrome comes with its own version of the Flash Player plugin.
    Your system details list doesn't show that the Shockwave Flash plugin is installed and enabled.
    You can find the latest Flash player versions for Firefox on this page.

  • Hyperlinks not working when creating PDF

    When I export my Pages 08 document to a PDF file, my hyperlinks (both email and web-page) are fine. However, the font looks a bit strange (Hoefler Text). I changed my view option to 100% and it still looked small and too black. It seems to print ok, but it is a newsletter that will be posted online. I tried a couple of different fonts and it seemed to do the same thing.
    I have Adobe PDF 9.0, so I tried to use that to create the PDF via "Print." The print looked much better, but when I do that, I lose my web-page hyperlinks, but not my email hyperlinks. I can go into Adobe PDF 9.0 and put them back in, but that is a pain.
    Any suggestions? I am not very proficient in Adobe products...they are not as user friendly in my opinion....so I am hoping to find a solution in Pages.
    Thanks!

    I have no problem creating a PDF from Pages '08 & retaining active hyperlinks. I think the "issue" was fixed with an update to Leopard. I see you are using 10.5.4. Update to 10.5.8 using the combo updater, restart, then use Disk Utility to repair permissions. I think you'll find the problem fixed.

  • Flash hyperlinks not working when hosted

    Hey all.  I've recently run into an issue with Adobe Flash Professional using Actionscript3 to navigate to separate pages on my personal webpage.  I believe I have the coding correct because when I open it locally in my browser, the links all work perfectly fine and navigate to the appropriate location on my hosting service.  However, when I uploaded the files to my file manager, the links suddenly stopped working...
    The link I am currently trying to get to work completely is the web design page.
    Here is the code for what I have and a link to the webpage.  Webpage link:  Justin Widener - Projects
    <div id="main-content">
          <object id="FlashID" classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" width="800" height="450" allowScriptAccess="always">
            <param name="movie" value="http://justinwidener.x10.mx/assets/projectsani.swf" />
            <param name="quality" value="high" />
            <param name="wmode" value="opaque" />
            <param name="swfversion" value="11.0.0.0" />
            <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always">
            <!-- This param tag prompts users with Flash Player 6.0 r65 and higher to download the latest version of Flash Player. Delete it if you don’t want users to see the prompt. -->
            <param name="expressinstall" value="Scripts/expressInstall.swf" />
            <!-- Next object tag is for non-IE browsers. So hide it from IE using IECC. -->
            <!--[if !IE]>-->
            <object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="assets/projectsani.swf" width="800" height="450" allowScriptAccess="always">
              <!--<![endif]-->
              <param name="quality" value="high" />
              <param name="wmode" value="opaque" />
              <param name="swfversion" value="11.0.0.0" />
              <param name="expressinstall" value="Scripts/expressInstall.swf" />
              <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always">
              <!-- The browser displays the following alternative content for users with Flash Player 6.0 and older. -->
              <div>
                <h4>Content on this page requires a newer version of Adobe Flash Player.</h4>
                <p><a href="http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer"><img src="http://www.adobe.com/images/shared/download_buttons/get_flash_player.gif" alt="Get Adobe Flash player" width="112" height="33" /></a></p>
              </div>
              <!--[if !IE]>-->
            </object>
            <!--<![endif]-->
          </object>
      </div>
    Here is a copy of the Actionscript coding that I am using with my SWF file.
    photo.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, fl_ClickToGoToWebPage_5);
    function fl_ClickToGoToWebPage_5(event:MouseEvent):void
      navigateToURL(new URLRequest("http://justinwidener.x10.mx/photo.html"), "_blank");
    web.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, fl_ClickToGoToWebPage_6);
    function fl_ClickToGoToWebPage_6(event:MouseEvent):void
      navigateToURL(new URLRequest("http://justinwidener.x10.mx/web.html"), "_blank");
    model.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, fl_ClickToGoToWebPage_7);
    function fl_ClickToGoToWebPage_7(event:MouseEvent):void
      navigateToURL(new URLRequest("http://justinwidener.x10.mx/model.html"), "_blank");
    video.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, fl_ClickToGoToWebPage_8);
    function fl_ClickToGoToWebPage_8(event:MouseEvent):void
      navigateToURL(new URLRequest("http://justinwidener.x10.mx/video.html"), "_blank");
    All of the links work correctly when I open the files locally but stop working when they are hosted.  Is there a reason for this?

    I'm not sure if I can even use a "www" prefix on those links.  They are a free hosting service and the "www" prefix is replaced by "justinwidener".  I can give it a shot and see what happens if I add "www" to the beginning.
    UPDATE:  So I have added the "www" prefix to the links and they are still not working.  However, the links work on IE on my computer and on Google Chrome on a different computer.
