Why do some of my emails have blue squares with a question mark instead of a picture or bar code?

No app installed that will view the pics and bar codes.
Which email client are you using?  Which version?
File suffix of the pics & bar codes?  Example:  .pic, .bmp, .jpg, etc.

  • Why do I get a blinking folder with a question mark after remote locking my Macbook?

    Hi,
I wanted to try the remote lock feature of iCloud.
I remotely locked my 17 inch Mid 2009 MacBook Pro. I received the confirmation email stating that the machine had indeed been locked.
When I went to the machine to unlock it, I was surprised to see a grey screen with a blinking folder. I had expected to see a place for me to enter my PIN. Rebooting the machine revealed the folder again.
What is going on? Did sometihng go wrong resulting in my somehow wiping my hard drive?
Thanks in advance for any help on this.

    Here is the email:
    Doulos has been locked.
Doulos was locked at 4:40 PM on March 11, 2012 with the following message.

If you retrieve your Mac, unlock it using the passcode you created to lock your Mac.

Why am I getting a blue box with question mark instead of logo image?  It happens in my signature (in gmail) and in mailchimp (again, only with the logo).

The question mark in the box, if it looks like this:   means that safari cannot find the linked image.  On windows machines, this would be the equivilant of  the small "page-with-a-red-X" logo that appears in the same scenario.  Check the reference to the image and make sure that the image is in the correct location, and is accessable by the reference.

  • Why do I get a blue box with ? In Safari with my iPad?

Why do I get a blue box with ? In Safari with my iPad?  It appears to be where pictures should be.  Very annoying when trying to read through an explanation of something and I get this dang blue box.

It's usually some graphics element that the iPad can't handle. Maybe it's a flash image, maybe it has another protocol that the iPad just can't display. NO way to say for sure without viewing the same page on a computer then checking the file type.

  • I keep getting the little blue box with the question mark

    Hi
I have 10.6.7 system software and my safari is 5.0.4
I have called apple twice with this problem already but nothing has helped except for short times.
I have reset safari about one dozen times and when I do I reset the top 7 items and I've emptied the cache in addition just in case. I've also taken my safari preference plist out of my library and trashed it.
And I've run disk utilities many times and restarted my computer. Each thing I do will solve the problem for a short time, even up to a day or more (or less) but then it comes back. For instance on Facebook maybe 1/8th of the thumbnail images have the little blue boxes with the question marks but most don't. I can't figure it out. Sometimes even the iPAD safari gets them too but my firefox doesn't show them and neither does Safari on my eMac.
Yesterday the question marks even showed up in ONE mailing on all 3 computers with the question marks in the blue boxes (meaning my iMac, my eMac and my iPad) but then it just all resolved after a few hours. This does sound like possibly a server problem except today it's happening (in Safari again) only on this iMac in Safari (not firefox) and not on the other two devices.
One more thing, since they changed my radio on the roof for my wireless internet, the 5.8 phone cuts out the internet when I use it. The problem has gotten worse since they changed the radio to the same frequency as the phone, it's a much faster service than the 2.4 radio. I don't know if this is related or not.
    Thank you,
    Martha

    <Contact your ISP.
Is it possible, Carolyn, that this would mainly and almost always be only affecting the iMac and Safari in the iMac if it were a server issue? Right now Safari has more blue boxes with question marks than ever and the eMac and iPad have none. Firefox on the iMac has none also.
I should try a direct connection and by pass the router and see if that makes a difference.
I will contact them tomorrow but I want to get clear in my head first all the facts and possibilities.
    Thanks!
    Martha

  • Why is my mac missing certain fonts and not displaying some pictures, is just a little blue box with a question mark in it?

When I open documents it always comes up with warnings that I am missing fonts and some cannot be replaced.
Also now I am noticing that some pictures are now missing and are replaced by a small blue box with a question mark in the middle. Can anyone
tell me what is going on and how I can fix this?
    Confused and frustrated,
    Amanda

Do you get a dialog box if you control click the missing image.

    HI,
From the Safari Menu Bar click Safari/Preferences then select the Appearance tab. Tick the box next to: Display images when the page opens.
If that box is already ticked, from the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset. Relaunch Safari. If you still have problems loading images, go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem. Safari: Add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
Web pages now include a small icon or 'favicon' which is visible in the address bar and next to bookmarks. These icons take up disk space and slow Safari down. It is possible to erase the icons from your computer and start fresh. *To delete Safari's icon cache using the Finder, open your user folder, navigate to ~/Library/Safari/ and move this file "webpageIcons.db to the Trash.*
Make sure Safari is not running in Rosetta. Right or control click the Safari icon in your Applications folder then click Get Info. In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle so it faces down. Where you see Open using Rosetta... make sure that is NOT selected.
If you still have problems, go to the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Safari. Now go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.safari.plist to the Desktop. Relaunch Safari. If it's a successful launch, then that .plist file needs to be moved to the Trash.

  • Hi, I have an iMac which I just booted up and have a white screen with a blue folder with a question mark blinking on and off. Any help would be appreciated. Tommy

Hi, I have an iMac which I just booted up and have a white screen with a blue folder with a question mark blinking on and off. Any help would be appreciated. Tommy

That means your iMac could not find a system to use for startup.  That may mean the internal hard drive has become faulty, or the hard drive mechanism is fine, but the startup volume ("Macintosh HD" unless you renamed it) may have some type of data corruption that makes it unbootable.
First, you should try resetting PRAM
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
and if that does not help, use this procedure to reset SMC (power management).  If your iMac is from 2008, this is the procedure for Intel (not PowerPC) Macs.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
(This forum category is for "iMac (PPC)," so if this iMac is older (with a PowerPC processor), please post back.)
Disconnect all peripheral devices.  When you connect it back to power, if you have been using a power strip of some type, try connecting it directly to a wall outlet, by itself (at least initially).  Start up with nothing but the power cord connected, then add only standard mouse and keyboard.  If it works, run it that way for a while.
If PRAM and SMC reset have no effect, you should insert your Mac OS X installation disc (for the currently installed system) in the optical drive, and restart with the C key held down.  This should get you to the Installer screen, where you can run Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
In Disk Utility, does the internal hard drive appear in the sidebar?  If so, select Macintosh HD in the sidebar and go to the First Aid tab.  Use Repair Disk.  If an error is found, note if Disk Utility was able to fix it or not.
You can then quit Disk Utility and attempt to restart normally.

On a macbook I purchased secondhand hard drive got corrupted and I started to get the flashing folder with the question mark, I purchased a new hard drive and snow lion install DVD I installed the hard drive and tried disc but kept getting blinking folder

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We're users here and do not speak for "Apple Inc."
Power on the computer and insert the DVD immediately.
Hold down the 'C' key to boot from the Snow Leopard DVD.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1533
After selecting the appropriate language, if necessary, select Utilities, and Disk Utility.
You'll likely need to partition and format the new drive before it's recognized.

(Yes, these instructions ARE 7 years old, but the procedure is the same for installing from DVD media.)

  • Hi I installed a new hard drive in my Mac mini osx lion an when I turn it on I get a flashing file with a question mark. I tried holding command and R keys when turning it on but the recovery fails to work. Does any one know how I can get it to recover?

Hi I installed a new hard drive in my Mac mini osx lion an when I turn it on I get a flashing file with a question mark. I tried holding command and R keys when turning it on but the recovery fails to work. I can hold the option key at start up and choose my network, then Internet recovery shows up with an arrow pointing up. When I click on the arrow Internet recovery fails and all I get is a globe with a triangle on it with an exclamation mark on it, and under that it says
    apple.com/support
          -6002F
Does any one know how I can fix this without a recovery disc? Thanks

I just want to add to this, in case someone else searches for this error on Apple Support (google doesnt cover apple support.. how clever is that?)
I had the same error. And i had a Computer that had worked, with a SSD drive and 16GB upgrade done by the owner himself.
I tried swapping with a Mechinal Harddrive, no luck.
Kept the Mechanical drive in, and tried with some other Ram, it worked..
So for me this error and after reading the other responses can be boiled down to a Harddrive problem or Ram issue.
    It was Ram for me..

  • Images appearing as little blue box with a question mark

Hi, I have Safari version 3.1.1 and in the last two weeks, I've been missing data and having in it's place a small little blue box with a question mark show up in Safari and in some of my mail downloads too.
    Can anyone assist
    Thanks
    Tony
p.s. I have started a new topic because the other string relating to this topic is showing as solved with cause being devleopers.

I have exactly the same problem with safari and mail but firefox works fine. If i go to a website that requires flash in safari it will say i need to install flash 8 to view the stuff even though i have flash 9 installed. I thought it might have been a problem with flash and thought about uninstalling and reinstalling but because firefox works fine it would seem to be a safari problem. This only started happening with the latest quicktime update to, and i've tried downgrading back to an older version but my pro-apps require the latest version to run.
I did the same updates on my macbook but didn't encounter the same problems, although i lost audio playback on avi's in quicktime which i have since fixed with perian.

Here is an article that describes what it is supposed to do:
Startup Manager: How to select a startup volume
If no Volumes are shown, it is telling you there are no potentailly bootable Volumes attached. That means your boot drive has died or the bootable image on it is unrecognizable.
What Mac Pro ? by year, GHz, number of processors, screen size?
    What Mac OS X ?

  • When I start my Mac air I get a flashing folder with a question mark

I am trying to start my Mac air and I get a flashing folder with a question mark. When I turn the power of it shuts down but wen starting it comes back

Just being clear about your situation.  When you hold down Option during boot it does not show a system volume or a recovery volume from which to boot.  At that point if you select a network boot and you do not see a spinning globe that persists there a good while as it loads the recovery partition over the network.  True?
A couple of more thinks to try:
Disconnect all of your external devices.
    Reset PRAM
Boot with the option key again.
Standard things to try (which is sounds like you already have attempted) A flashing question mark appears when you start your Mac
