Why do I get messages telling me that Time Machine has not backed up?
I have a Macbook Pro with Yosemite 10.10.1. Time Machine sends me messages that my computer has not been backed up in hundreds of days. I just attached the hard drive two days ago and the light was on. All instructions say Time Machine works when you plug in your hard drive. How can I tell if it actually backed up my computer?

Open: "Apple menu > System Preferences > Time Machine" It will state there why a back-up has failed.

The problem is that the instructions that come in the pdf with the downloaded files do not work, because the files that download from that page do not have the names referred to in the pdf, and most of the things that are referred to in the instructions do not happen. Here is what actually happened.
When I downloaded the files from the website, these are the files that downloaded:
I double-clicked each one and they extracted into two different folders.
Then I read a message on the forum that said to move all the extractred files into the same folder, so I moved all files into one file at C:\Creative Suite CS2\Adobe Creative Suite 2.0 as was pictured in the forum message. Here are screen shots showing all of the files in that folder I have now:
So then I double clicked the "Setup" file and I got this error message:
So then I tried to install the programs separately from the installer inside the folders Photoshop and Illustrator. I got this far and entered the serial number from the website:
But then I got this error message, even though I was using the files and serial number exactly from the website:
I tried both photoshop and illustrator and the same thing happened.
(I also looked at Solution 2 that you mentioned above but I don't have anything called VCOM on the computer. Also the error message that I got is not that one.)
I think I really need a set of instructions that lists the steps in order to do, but based on the files that actually download from the website and what happens when you extract the files. I feel as if I have all of the proper files but it still doesn't work.

I'am getting an update error when am trying to upgrade to newer version (4.3.2)..the error message content shows that i tunes could not back up the i pod,because the back up was corrupt or not compatible with ipod..can anyone help me out to fix this issue

My computer keeps getting a message that "Time Machine could not complete the backup. It continues, "Unable to complete backup. An error occurred creating the backup folder. I have to clear the pop up from my screen to continue using the computer. It is getting very tiresome. Any thoughts?

I have a pop up message on my IPad that says it has not backed up in two weeks and now my ipad is locked and I cannot use it. I connected it to electricity, it is already on Wifi, and locked it with the button on top. But the message has not gone away. I cannot turn it off or remove the message or or slide to unlock. What can I do?
Have you tried a reset ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

I usually have iCloud backup but I got a notification that my phone has not backed up for the last two weeks, and It wont let me do it manually.There is also still enough storage space. Why did it all of a sudden stop backing up?
The HT1766 article you attached lists the prerequisites for an iCloud backup:
iCloud automatically backs up the most important data on your device using iOS 5 or later. After you have enabled Backup on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch in Settings > iCloud > Backup & Storage, it will run on a daily basis as long as your device is:
Connected to the Internet over Wi-Fi
Connected to a power source
Screen locked
You can also back up manually whenever your device is connected to the Internet over Wi-Fi by choosing Back Up Now from Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup. -
Have OS 10.7.5. Computer off three days and now message comes that Time Machine could not complete backup because the "/volumes/PH's timecapsulPro.sparsebundle" is already in use. Whats that about?
Two Solutions for "sparse bundle already in use" Error
Simple solution (from Bob Timmons):
1. Make sure that no other Macs are backing up the Time Capsule at the time
2. Pull the power cord from the back of the Time Capsule
3. Count to ten
4. Plug the power cord back into the back of the Time Capsule

How can I recover files on USB that time machine has erased?
While transferring pictures from my girlfriend's MacBook to my USB drive, I received a warning message when I ejected the device, saying that Time Machine had not finished backing up. Apparently my girlfriend had enabled Time Machine to back up her system every x minutes when it detects an external device. When I checked my USB on my laptop, it was empty. All the pictures and some files of mine that I did not back up were seemingly erased. Is there any way to rcover these files? I am particularly interested in a few word documents of mine. Any suggestions are much appreciated.
If you delete files from your internal hard drive and don't save a copy of them other then in a Time Machine backup you will eventually lose that data. As you have found out. Time Machine is NOT for archiving files. It is a program to svae what is currently on your internal drive to another so it can be restored at a later date. Once you delete files from your internal drive TM will no longer back them up and then delete old backups where those file may be. This is totally normal for any program like TM, IE a Back Up and Restore Program. It is up to the user to SAVE a copy of files they want to keep on some other media before they delete them from an internal drive. If you had never deleted those files TM would still be backing them up.

MAC OSX 10.5.8 and 2TB Time Machine would not back up. Saw discussion that suggested you change name without apostrophes etc. Went into Time Machine and did a manula backup without a name and it appears to be backing up now. Does this remove delete the old backup's ?

I have an iPhone 5 IOS 8.1.2;
for the past 13 weeks I get the message that "this phone has not been backed up on the cloud". However, every night it is connected to wifi, phone is connected to power, and the screen is locked. Any idea why back-up is not happening ? By the way, I do not have the "back up now" option in Setting / iCloud.. Help anyone ?Try deleting an other icloud backup and see if it will automatically backup.

We have 3 user profiles on mac book pro. want to upgrade to lion but want to be sure that all users are backed up to ext hard drive via Time Machine. When I go into Time Machine - I cant find anywhere my user account (1 of the 3) - loads of photos and documents. For other user accounts - if i go to open a folder i cant ''no permission'' is the message. All I want to be sure of is that there is a back up and for these 2 reasons I am far from sure.

Be sure they're not excluded in Time Machine Preferences > Options.
Also, if iPhoto is open while a backup is running, Time Machine may not be able to back up the changes in the iPhoto Library. It will "catch up" the next time, if it can.

That's correct; one user, even an Admin user, doesn't normally have access to another user's files. You should see the same behavior if you try to look at their data on your Mac.
Log on as the other users (or have them do it) to see their backups. -
A pop-up window keeps appearing with the message that a script is not completing correctly - " "Script: chrome://forecastfox/content/observers.js:1" I'm given the choice to a) let it continue in the hopes it will complete or b) cancel. No matter which choice I make, the little window persists up in the corner of my screen and then sometimes brings itself to the front again, so I get to make the choice all over again. Most annoying also because I can't close the little pop-up...it hides itself in the top left and appears as a small blank there. I have the distinct impression that it's making my Mac run slower... and I would love to get rid of it. It's not related to Firefox 5...it was there before with the previous version, too...and is one of the reasons I upgraded. I don't want Chrome, by the way...so it's also annoying to see its name in the offending script-name. I took a screen shot but can't figure out how to attach it to this description. It happens every time I open Firefox...not immediately but after a while.

Hi, Does importing, for example, a Motion JPEG file into Quicktime Pro to remove a segment in the middle, or cut off material from the ends, leave all original settings (compression, quality, etc.) intact? Or might it change settings to match those i
