Why do i get redirected to **** sites

why do i get redirected to **** sites

Is that a euphemism for 'adult' sites?
Redirection can happen if you have installed Safari (or whatever browser) extensions. Turn them all off & retest.
You may also have malware or adware installed…
Apple have this guide for removing manually…

    -> Do a MALWARE check with these Malware Scanning programs. You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. Make sure that you UPDATE each program to get the latest version of their Databases before doing a Scan. Also Close All Web Browsers before Starting to Run Scans.

  • Why do I get redirected to some banner site when I click on any of my bookmarks now?

    Apparently somehow on my computer is something that is causing me to be directed to a banner ad page, which Firefox disallows, and then it goes back to my seletced page I wanted. Each time I click something on my page, example bank log in, it tries to redirect me again. What did I do and how do I get rid of this.? I am not very saavy on using firefox. Thanks

    Right click your bookmarks and select properties. Check if anything suspicious was added to the links. Also, did you download Firefox from the official site? I notice in your system details that you are using Firefox 31 - the latest version is 32.0.2.

    Also, the Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. <br>
    '''Note''': ''This will cause you to lose any Extensions and some Preferences.''
    To Reset Firefox do the following:
    #Click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]], click help [[Image:Help-29]] and select ''Troubleshooting Information''. Now, a new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
    #At the top right corner of the page, you should see a button that says "Reset Firefox"[[Image:Button reset]]. Click on it.

  • Why am I getting redirected to the MSN homepage (when logging out of hotmail) with third party cookies not enabled? And why are exceptions to cookies being cleared in private browsing mode?

    I have the latest version of Firefox, I use Private browsing with Allow cookies but not third party cookies. Recently I have begun to be redirected to the MSN homepage after logging out of hotmail and whenever I add MSN cookies to the exceptions in cookies the list gets deleted. Can anyone tell me why, when blocking third party cookies should prevent that?

    Two initial thoughts:
    (1) If you look at the cookie names and content in the View Cookies dialog, are they the ordinary scramble of different names and values, or do they look like "opt-out" cookies? Some security software or add-ons may restore opt-out cookies after you clear them.
    (2) If you have any extensions that make requests to those sites, it's possible they are bypassing private browsing mode, although I would hope not. Hmmm.
    Unfortunately, unlike history where you can see the time that an entry was added, it is difficult to figure out when a cookie was set. But there are many cookie add-ons that might provide insight.
    Alternately, you could go directly to the cookies.sqlite database using the SQLite Manager extension. This is on the nerdy side, but manageable.
    (1) Install SQLite Manager from: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/sqlite-manager/
    (2) The extension adds an item to the Tools menu. If you do not normally use the classic menu bar, tap the Alt key to display it temporarily or press Alt+t to pull down the Tools menu.
    SQLite Manager may suggest a particular database, particularly on your second and later uses. You can skip that and it will open a new window.
    (3) On the toolbar (first screen shot), choose the cookies.sqlite database and click Go. This should display the database entries for all your cookies (second screen shot).
    (4) Select the following SQL query text:
    SELECT host AS Site, datetime(creationTime/1000000,'unixepoch') AS Created, datetime(expiry,'unixepoch') AS Expires
    FROM moz_cookies
    ORDER BY creationTime, host
    (5) Click the Execute SQL tab, paste the query, then click Run SQL. You should get a list of sites in order by the date their cookies were set (third screen shot).
    Are the dates all fresh? If they are older, something may be rolling back your cookie clearing.

  • Not in Internet Explorer, but only in Firefox, I get redirected to sites that I have not selected. MS Tech Support just spent an hour running scans, concluding that the problem was not in IE. They said to contact Firefox.

    Before getting off, we ran identical searches, one in IE, one in Firefox. IE got me to Bank of America without redirecting, Firefox redirected me to a wrong site, (bank related, but wrong).

    Please see [[Searches are redirected to another site]].
    Let us know how that helps.

  • My firefox browser keeps getting redirected to sites like "video cop" and other things I've never heard of. I keep getting pop under windows out of nowhere. What's wrong!? Adware, Spybot, and all my antivirus scans can't find anything!

    When I click on links on google to go to search results, the computer often freezes or is misdirected to sites like "video cop." I've never had problems with firefox before, it's always been the most reliable browser - but now I'm getting pop-under ads too. I ran spybot, adaware, AVG, and a bunch of other scans but none of them detected any problems.

  • Why do I get redirected to Yahoo when I type Google into Firefox?

    When I type google.com into the URL box of Firefox or Safari on my 2008 Macbook, I get atumoatically redirected to a Yahoo website with the following URL - http://developer.yahoo.com/yql/console/
    I can still search in the Google search box in the top right, but I get similarly redirected if I search for Google and click on the Google link.
    I was having a similar problem yesterday trying to get to ESPN's website.  Every time I clicked on an ESPN link or typed in the URL I got redirected to a website called Ooyala.  Now I'm not having this problem.  I downloaded all new updates a few days ago, and am currently scanning my computer (I have Sophos Anti-Virus software, not sure how good it is).  I expect that I have some sort of malware, but I know next to nothing about computers.
    Can anyone help with this?

    I too was having this issue recently.  I decided to look into it and discovered that www.google.com and all of the search results accessed through using a google search engine toolbar were currupt.  I believe I solved this problem by updating my firmware of my router.
    Type in your IP address in your Address Bar (search using Yahoo what your default IP router address is if you haven't changed it since you got it.)  You'll then need to navigate to your router's website (ex: I search Cisco and Linksys and found mine).
    Most logins to the router are
    Name: admin
    Password: password
    You will then download a .bin file and go to your administrator page in your router's control panel and go to Firmware Upgrade.  Click the "find file" (or whatever it says) and click upgrade.  This worked for me.
    If this doesn't solve it, reset the router to it's default settings by either using it's control panel or holding the reset button on the back of it in for several seconds.  This will reset any port forwarding you may have set up as well as your Wifi password.
    Hope this helps,

  • Why do I get redirected to a blank page when I try to download .dmg files?

    I have been having real difficulties for about the last 2 months downloading .dmg files. Instead, I have often been redirected to a blank page, which takes a while to load and the downloads window in my Safari browser does not recognize the download at all. If I try to "save target as" I simply get a useless HTML file. Anyone else have the same problem?

  • Why is Firefox continually redirecting me away from the site I'm looking for?

    When I go to a site, I get redirected to an advertising site. When I backspace twice I get returned to the Google search page and then I can go directly to the site I'm punching in. But why am I getting redirected all the time?

    Search redirect malware.
    Install, update, and run these programs in this order. They are listed in order of efficacy.<br />'''''(Not all programs detect the same Malware, so you may need to run them all to solve your problem.)''''' <br />These programs are all free for personal use, but some have limited functionality in the "free mode" - but those are features you really don't need to find and remove the problem that you have.<br />
    ''Note: If your Malware infection is bad enough and you are mis-directed to URL's other than what is posted, you may have to use a different PC to download these programs and use a USB stick to transfer them to the afflicted PC.''

  • Why do I always get redirected with customer support?

    So today I went on the phone with Verizon just to figure out why my internet speed has been slow because I finally got the time too. I used to get around a 2.5 - 3 Mbps speed connection and now I only get a 1.5 Mbps or so connection. This originally happened after a Verizon tech agent came to our house and said that our speed was "too high and it shouldn't be that high" when my internet connection dropped. So he went over to the cable lines down the street and lowered my connection and then comes back and says its fixed. Now he didn't fix anything or do anything for that matter. I had to login MYSELF into my Verizon account on my modem which brought the internet up again. So basically, I paid for the Verizon agent to come and lower my speed and gained nothing from it. However, I still pay the same price as before for the 3 Mbps connection...
    Now I went through the customer support on the phone to talk about this and they redirected me again and again and again probably at the very least 6 or more times. Everytime I got to a technical support, they would redirect me to a billing support and so forth. I told my problem over and over to no avail. All I want is my 2.5 - 3 Mbps speed again which I used to have... I STILL pay for the 3 Mbps connection when I only get around 1.5 Mbps now.
    I feel like this is it... I can't handle this anymore, everytime I go to Verizon customer support I get redirected at least 5+ times for over 2-3 hours just to get one problem fixed. Half the time these morons don't even know what they're doing and just redirect me over and over again.
    I'm thinking of simply changing to another ISP.

    Before you change ISP I would demand a refund for the period of time your speed was subpar. It is true that for a number of different reasons your line may no be able to give reliable higher speeds. If you want to save some $$ look into the 3/1 FIOS plan, that is what I have. It is not an obvious choice on the VZ web site but the price is very fair IMO
    Hopefully by posting here one of the verizon reps will "hook you up" no pun intended.

  • I get redirected to a different site based either on my locale, keyboard language or product language. How can I prevent this from happening

    There are several sites that I access where I type in www.xxxxx.com or support.mozilla.com expecting to get the American site but due either to my "locale" which is set to Germany or my "Keyboard Language" which is set to German, I get automatically redirected to the German site. As all my software is in English but I have a German Laptop, I wish to go to the English sites. Conversely there are sites where I type in www.xxxx.de wishing to go to the German site, but get re-directed to the UK Site because my software is in English. Many of these sites then allow you to chose the country you want thereby correcting this behaviour, but unfortunately there are a host of sites whose programmers have not foreseen the need for this and the sites are thus unreachable. An example of this is www.proidee.de which automatically redirects me to the UK Site.
    What I am looking for is some way to prevent these sites from imposing their will over my decisions. I see this as a direct infringement of my rights.

    Try running several malware scanners. It is best to run several as each will pick up things that the others miss. Some scanners you can try are:
    * [http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php Malwarebytes]
    * [http://www.superantispyware.com/ SUPERAntiSpyware]
    * [http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_free.php Ad-Aware]
    * [http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/defender/default.mspx Windows Defender]
    * [http://www.safer-networking.org/en/home/index.html Spybot S&D]

  • Everytime i search and select a site i get redirected while i can go directly to the site on Explorer, also some bookmarked sites will not open on Firefox, even though there were saved there but I can open them in Explorer. Help I like Firefox.

    there are too many to list. when I google a site and click on it, most times I get redirected. is this a maleware issue? it seems to work fine with Explorer. for example I can open adam4adam.com in Explorer but not with Firefox.

    It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
    Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.
