Why do I get so many Calendar alerts for US holiday events?

All of a sudden for US holidays I get dozens and dozens of the alerts the day before reminding me of them. This does not happen for calendar entries that I have made.This just started this week with Lincoln's birthday and again repeated for Valentine's Day tomorrow. Any suggestions?

At each national holiday I get many, many reminders as shown in the attachment. This has started since downloading the maverick update. This month already election day & veteran's day. How do I stop this from happening?

I am on Yosemite and I have this option. If you are on an older version, it may be in a different location. See my various Holiday's, I ignored their alerts and just kept one on.

Am I missing something??? Is there anyway to set an alert to go off on the date of an all day event but not at midnight the night before? It would be so much better if the user could choose what time the alert should go off, like 9am for instance. Who wants an alert at midnight!

Isnt there any other way than doing it manually? I have a lot of birthdays and anne. saved on the contacts info on my outlook with the alert set to go off at 8 AM but as the previous person said....all alerts tend to go off at 12 midnight which is quite irritating.

Ever wonder why carriers don't send text usage alerts for your minutes? They do it for data but not minutes.

I don't know about anyone else but I check my usage almost every day. If you're with AT&T you can download the "my AT&T" app that will allow you to check your minutes and data usage. You can also send a free text to *MIN# and *DATA#, and you will get a free text back telling you how many minutes and how much data you've used (as someone else has already said). I'm sure Verizon has a comparable service. These days I'm checking more for my data usage than minute usage, as I have a considerable amount of rollover minutes built up with AT&T. I'm on wifi most of the time but I still like to keep track of the data, just to be sure I'm not going over.

Hi Bob, thankyou very much for coming back on this. The flag is coming up towards the end of the preview process on desk top. I have made dozens if not hundreds on my two published apps on the app store, but have not done an update for nearly a year, in which time I have needed a refresher, and as usual went to Lynda. In this case I have followed to the letter your DPS course, which is great, and I found the process of making the scrolling panels somewhat easier than when I started 2-3years ago. Initially I was mystified that the flag talked about url and web content, but just put it down to something I had missed in recent improvements in CC.
I tried over and over, but always got the same result. I thought at one point it might be because the content of my slide was copy and photo, so for a test I deleted the photo. Same result, and many of my existing slides are copy and picture.
I also uninstalled Indesign CC and reinstalled in case of corrupted content, I also copied to IDML and relaunch, same problem. I am sure I have made the scrolling content as instructed, The one thing I havn't done is trash my preferences, if you think that would be a good Idea could you please direct me to some content at Lynda on how to do it in CC. Open System Preferences/Network. Double click on your connection type, or select it in the drop-down menu, and in the box marked 'DNS Servers' add the following two numbers:

Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access - delete the password there. While there, Keychain Access menu/First Aid.

How can I override an alert for a particular event?

I'm using Calendar 6.0 in Mountain Lion. I have set default alert times, but sometimes I want to set a different alert for a particular event. This is something that is easy to do in other calendar programs but seems impossible in Calendar. If I edit the alert time and date, it always reverts back to the default once I close the editing window or click apply.

When I make new events in my calendar, and choose no alert or reminder, and submit it, it automatically puts two 10 min alert prior to the events,
I check my calendar setting and the default was no alert, but still getting this issue every time I make new events ?

Do you have a default alarm set in iCal's Preferences > General Tab?
Are you syncing via iCloud (if so look here)?
Are you syncing to Google Calendar (if so look here)?
Are you syncing elsewhere?

Why am I getting so many runtime errors? (IO handling)

Here is what I am trying to do. The user of my GUI types a name in a text field an then presses a button. Then a file is created with that name, and with whatever he typed in the text field in it. Note: the extension is not typed!
But for some reason I get so many runtime errors in the prompt. I would list them except I can't see them all. Here is the important part of my code. Add is the button the user presses to add the file name; and it is located in the an actionEvent method. Here is the cod:
