Why do I get the message " 'Song Tiltle' was not copied to iPod because it cannot be played on this iPod"

I got a new gen iPod Classic (160G) for Christmas, purchased Bob Marley's Album "Legend" and when I sync the playlist to the iPod I get an error message saying this one song cannot be played on this iPod. What gives? Is it something about "I Shot the Sheriff" that my iPod has a moral disagreement with? It had no issue importing and installing Body Count's "Kop Killa"...I'm confounded by this issue; Please, Someone, Help!

Not really likely, is it?
First of all, look on the iPod to see if the song is actually on there. (The last Sync of my Classic resulted in "song not copied... because it cannot be found." The song had previously been on the iPod. I checked and despite the fact that iTunes could not find the file, the song was still on my iPod. I checked the folder and the song was exactly where t was supposed to be. So I simply set iTunes to find it again. What happened? I don't know, iTunes simply threw a wobbly!)
Second, try another Sync. Does this change anything? If the song was on the iPod, does a second Sync remove the message?  If the song was not on the iPod after the first Sync, does the second one put it on there?
What happens?

  • Song was not copied to iPod because it cannot be played on this iPod

i copied a song to a folder from the internet then added the folder to itunes. Then when i try to put the song on my iPod nano i get the message (song title) was not copied to the iPod "Mike's iPod" because it cannot be played on this iPod. i can play the entire song on the itunes library though, and there is a little wave icon thing next to the song title. How can I make it where I can copy this song to the iPod?

Ok, I tried changing the file format and when I select the song and go to the advanced menu it says convert selection to... but the text isnt selectable but is when I select a different song. I guess this means its protected from being converted? If so is there anything else I can do to be able to get it onto my iPod?
Also does it matter what format I try to convert it too?

I was refering to the "sample rate", normally 44.1 KHz, the iPod might not be able to play tracks with a non-standard rate. Otherwise I'm not sure what the issue might be.

  • Songs "not copied to the ipod because it cannot be played on this ipod"

After having my ipod stolen i purchased a new Ipod classic. When syncing my music to my ipod i get an error on a number of songs, "not copied to ipod because it cannot be played on this ipod." This did not happen with my old ipod which i purchased just one year prior. Why can these songs not be played on my new ipod?

"I bought this song on iTunes - wrote the song to CD - made an MP3. Then tried to copy the song (MP3) to my Nano."
Was there some particular reason you did this? I'm just curious as to why you didn't leave it as an AAC file.
Do you still have the original downloaded AAC file and does this play on the iPod ok?

  • I got a new iPod nano 7th gen., but when I tried downloading a video from my iTunes library a message popped up that said: Some of the videos in your iTunes library cannot be copied to your iPod because they cannot be played on this iPod.

I got a new iPod nano 7th gen, but when i tried downloading a video from my iTunes library a message popped up that said: Soem of the videos in your iTunes library were not copied to yor iPod because they cannot be played on this iPod. What should I do?

I kept having a similar problem - 3 out of the 10 videos I had on iTunes wouldn't sync. They were in the right format and I KNEW they worked on my iPod because I'd RECORDED them on my iPod. I finally figured out what to do! Go to the movies in your iTunes library. Click on one that does not sync. Click on "Advanced" at the top of iTunes and choose "Create iPod or iPhone version". Once that's finished, be sure you delete the old version so you don't keep getting the error (or have 2 copies of the same video) and sync. This should eliminate the problem. At least it did for me!

    Hello mobyash,
Have you tried converting each of these 8 tracks to a different file format and seeing if they will then sync to your iPod.  See this Apple support document for information and instructions on how to convert a song to a different format.

  • file was not copied to the iPod because it cannot be played on this iPod

    Hi,
I'm a complete newb with the first generation iPod Touch. It's my wife's and I don't use it but I wanted to experiement with giving her access to some movies. As an experiment I've encoded 1 chapter of a movie on my Linux box using Handbrake using the iPhone & iPod Touch preset. The file is about 7MB. It plays fine on the Linux box. I've copied it over to my Windows machine, have my wife's iPod Touch hooked up and it's visible in iTunes. I select the video directory for the iPod in iTunes and then try dragging the video file into iTunes. At this point I'm presented the message:
<file> was not copied to the iPod <iPod name> because it cannot be played on this iPod.
In searching the forums it seems that one potential solution is to choose Advanced->Create iPod or iPhone version which unfortunately is grayed out an unselectable. I suspect that this is because I don't have the video file inside of iTunes, but I'm not sure about that.
When I choose Library->Movies I just get a few options about renting and downloading that take me to the iTunes store.
How do I get this video into iTunes so that I can try to get it onto the iPod?
    Thanks,
    Mark

As a follow-up I talked to my son who has an iPod and he tells me that, assuming I understood him correctly, when I open iTunes and choose Library->Movies I should see something like a file browser, and that when I drag the video from my desktop into iTunes I should see it there in the browser.
I currently am not seeing anything that looks like a file browser, but something more like an adversitisement for capabilities of iTunes and the iTunes store. I've got a green shopping bag that has some text to the right saying 'Download movies' and to the right of that some green tickets to the right with text that says 'Rent movies'.
I understand that I want to use the iTunes converter in the advanced menu, but I haven't figured out how to use that on a random file like the m4v file on my desktop.
    Thanks

  • "Video Podcast" Was not copied to the iPod because it cannot be played on this iPod

I recently got an Ipod Nano 7th Gen. I am trying to put a video podcast, from itunes, onto it but keep getting the message that it cannot be played. From reading other answers I have seen that the definiton can be an issue but as far as I know, video podcasts are all SD.
Is this a problem with my iPod, itunes or my iPod software?

We are encountering the same problems with both our new iPod Nano 7th Gen.  Both iTunes and iPod have been updated with the most recent software.

  • Was not copied to the iPod because it cannot be played on this iPod

why do i buy videos on iTunes, try to copy the video to my iPod and then get this message? you'd think that if i bought if from the iTunes store, i should be able to play it on my iPod.
is there anything i can do besides complain to the iTunes store?
    thanks in advance.

I get this same error message, and the songs/videos im trying to transfer were originally on my ipod already. bascally i had a problem with my ipod, and knew that i had to back up the files, so i used a program (which will not be named here) to copy my songs and videos from my ipod to my hard drive, as i've done before and have never had a problem putting them back onto my ipod.
the only difference now is that i have a new version of itunes (the latest) and the latest version of the ipod software, and now more than half my songs, and all of my videos that were originally on my ipod (i cant stress that enough) are not being recognized, even by itunes. and i get the exact same error message.
i am sooo lost without my songs!! HELP!!!
