Why do I get unwanted ads in a new tab

I keep getting ads popping up in a new tab I have run AVG anti virus and have found no issues no malware or soy detected

No single anti-virus/anti-spyware application will find everything. You need to do a thorough malware scan of your system using the following suggested programs.
Remember:
#Never run more than 1 Firewall at a time.
#Never run more than 1 AV/AS application in an active state (on-access/real-time scanning) at a time.
#Malwarebytes free version will scan and clean infections found; no need to purchase unless you want real-time scanning and a few other features in the paid version.
Download, install and update as many of the following as possible until your infections are cleaned.
#The '''<u>free versions</u>''' of these scanners will detect infections and clean your system; no need to purchase
#'''<u>Different malware scanners detect some malware that other scanners do not.</u>'''
#If you are unable to download the malware programs,
#* change the name of the installer program before saving the download to your hard drive, and
#* once installed, go to the installation folder for the program and change the name of the program executable file (i.e., for Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, change mbam.exe to xyz-mb.exe), then update the program and run the scan.
#* you may need to download on an un-infected computer, change the name of the installer program, copy the installer to a CD or USB thumb drive, and transport to your system for installation.
#Some stubborn malware will need to be removed in '''Windows Safe Mode with Networking'''. See:

    You can supplement your Malwarebytes Anti-Malware scan with some other tools Firefox users have found effective. See: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]].
    But it also makes sense to check a couple of things manually.
    (1) Extensions installed in Firefox
    Open the Add-ons page using either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
    In the left column, click Extensions. Then take a careful look and disable everything you either don't recognize or don't use regularly. If Firefox prompts you to restart to make the change effective, you can do that as the last step after completing your review of the list.
    (2) Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a Program
    Click the "Installed on" column heading to bring the most recent infections, I mean, additions, to the top. This is useful in revealing bundles that may have snuck unwanted software onto your PC. Remove everything you don't remember choosing intentionally.
    Any improvement?

  • Why did they take away the "Open In New Tab"option in Top Sites, Bookmarks, and History?

    Why did they take away the "Open In New Tab"option in Top Sites, Bookmarks, and History? This very annoying.

    Seriously - what could they have possibly been thinking? Mozilla, please tell us this was some kind of mistake. Accessing our bookmarks in FF-mobile is just plain bad as a user experience. And now without "Open In New Tab" we are supposed to drill down to our bookmarks for every tab we want to open? FF-mobile is almost useless without "Open In New Tab". Please restore "Open In New Tab" for bookmarks, thanks.

    You probably have (probably unknowingly) installed some adware. The Safe Mac provide a script for safely removing unwanted adware:

  • Why does Firefox get hung up, when opening new pages? I've tried disabling plugins and extensions to no avail.

    Initially, when I open Firefox everything opens very quickly. However, after several minutes it gets hung up when opening new pages. I have close the browser and reopen it to start over. But each time it does the same thing. Works well at first then poops out. The trouble started yesterday. Before then, I never had any problems.
    I've tried disabling all the plugins and extensions, but it doesn't make any difference.

  • Why do I continuously have pop-ups in new tabs in Safari?

    Hi everyone!
    I recently had a lot of my settings changed for Safari, due to my little brother's actions and I don't know why I'm suddenly getting all kinds of pop-ups... For example, whenever I click a link or right before I click a link, a new tab pops up and it can be about the mac or windows cleaning programs... Or inappropriate sites. Like. What, why? I don't know why it's doing all of this, but my brother tore my keyboard keys off my macbook pro's keyboard and he messed with a few other things. Also, whenever I view words and what not, certain words are underlined and happen to have an additional hover-over window in it. It's really annoying and I don't know why it's happening. Whenever I turn on Javascript, it happens, but when I turn it off, it's okay. But a lot of the sites I go on like social media say that I need Javascript to run on my computer, but a whole bunch of stuff comes with it... I don't think Java did this before, but it's super annoying. I really don't know if Java was on, before the accident with my bro. Also, I'd like to mention that several of my keys on my keyboard can't go back in. I literally think that I have general computer issues, but I don't have 2 grand in the back of my pocket to just whip out. So please help me with this :/
    Thank you!

    Adware often will utilize JavaScript. If you turn off JavaScript, you eliminate the symptoms without removing the cause.
    When you say AdwareMedic isn't helping, does that mean you tried it already and it found nothing? If so, see:

  • Why do popup windows now appear as a new tab?

    There are some websites that like to have an actual popup. Why is Safari forcing popups to appear as a new tab?
    Thanks!

    Why is Safari forcing popups to appear as a new tab?
    It's not. Some ads are designed to open in front of or behind an open window, while others are deliberately designed to open in a new window or tab. It's not something you can control.

  • I can't get Firefox to open a new tab each time I click on a link or favorite. It keeps loading onto the current tab.

    I went to Tools>Options>Tabs and entered a check mark next to the first entry, "Open New Windows in a New Tab Instead" but it still does not open a new tab each time I click on a link or one of my favorites. It used to way back in earlier versions of Firefox but hasn't for the past few iterations...am I doing something wrong or do I need to activate something else within Firefox?

    '''''"I went to Tools>Options>Tabs and entered a check mark next to the first entry, "Open New Windows in a New Tab Instead" but it still does not open a new tab each time I click on a link or one of my favorites."'''''
    That option only controls pages that would open in a new window based on the code on the website page you are visiting.
    Firefox's default is to open a link or a Bookmark in the currently selected tab.
    You have some options to have links and/or Bookmarks open in a new tab:
    *middle-click the link or Bookmark (middle-click = press the mouse scroll wheel)
    *CTRL+left-click the link or Bookmark
    *right-click the link or Bookmark and choose "Open in New Tab"
    *install one of the following and set the options to automatically open links or Bookmarks in a new tab:
    **'''''Tab Utilities Lite''''': https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/tab-utilities-lite/
    **'''''Tab Utilities''''' (a few more options than the "Lite" version): https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/tab-utilities/
    **'''''Tab Mix Plus''''' (a heavyweight tab utility extension): https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/tab-mix-plus/

  • Cant Get Links To Open In New Tab Instead Of New Window !!!!

    Alright I must be missing something. I have done the following:
    Safari -->
    Preferences -->
    GENERAL
    Open Links From Applications --> In New Tab (Selected)
    TABS
    All Boxes Are Checked
    Everytime I click on a link online the page opens in a new window. How can I get the links to open as a new tab within the window?
    Thank You

    I was thinking of switching over from Firefox myself but this minor annoyance is something I never had to deal with on FF and it may be enough to make me switch back. I'm a regular digg user and whenever I click on a story it opens up in a new window which is off-centre and not maximized and no matter how many times I fix it the next time I open a link its like that again. These are pretty basic functions of a browser so if Safari can't even handle these properly then there's no future in it for me. Also can't add different search engines to the built in search bar, lame.

  • Can't get Firefox to open a new tab as my homepage or a specific url. Alwatys get 'The address isn't valid'

    When opening a new tab, I keep getting 'The Address isn't valid'. Went through all the fixes given in previous threads, changing the url in about:config, running Firefox in safe mode (problem still exists with plugins disabled) resetting Firefox, changed newtab settings to about:home etc, restarted, deleted cookies. Nothing seems to work. Some other program seems to be overriding the Firefox settings. May be a virus. I am using the latest McAfee software.
    I once had an add-on that brought up thumbnails with a new tab but I removed that a while back.
    On the right hand side search bar of firefox I can see that Bing is one of the dropdown search engine choices not that it should make a difference but I thougth they were sometimes a bit aggresive.
    Anyhow, would love to know if there is a solution as it's making me suspicious of having an undetected visus or hijacking.

    Thanks for your relpy but I've already tried these solutions and no joy. I tried them again there just to be sure but still no good.
    In the mean time I installed a plug-in that does this for me. I used My Homepage 1.2 and it's done the business.
    Still don't know what was causing the problem. (And it wasn't a typo, I checked and copied and pasted urls from other locations...)

  • I,m using Firefox 7.0.1. I upgraded AVG to 2012.0.1831 Now when I open a new tab it opens to "AVG secure search" How do I get Firefox to open a new tab to a blank page?

    I'm running Firefox 7.0.1 on Windows 7

    How do I get a new tab to open to a blank page?

    You can look at one of these extensions:

  • Why can't I open links in a new tab with a right click anymore? And why has the toolbar removed the refresh button?

    Several basic functions seem to be have vanished from Firefox. I can no longer open links in new tabs with a right click, and the refresh browser button (and back/forward navigation buttons, etc) do not appear in with consistency anymore. How do I get these basic navigational tools back? (most recent updates are installed)

    * Make sure that you have the "Navigation Toolbar" and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" visible: "View > Toolbars"
    * If items are missing then see if you can find them in the "View > Toolbars > Customize" window
    * If you see the item in the Customize window then drag it back from the Customize window to one of the toolbars.
    * If, in "View > Toolbars > Customize", you do not see that item then click the "Restore Default Set" button
    See also [[Back and forward or other toolbar buttons are missing]] and [[Navigation Toolbar items]]

  • When entering a new website it overrides the previous site, how can i get it to open a new tab instead

    I DON'T KNOW THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM, I JUST THOUGHT THAT IF THERE IS A WAY TO OPEN A NEW TAB EACH TIME YOU ENTER A NEW WEBSITE WITHOUT OVERRIDING THE PREVIOUS ONE. YOU WOULDN'T HAVE TO REMEMBER TO ENTER THE PLUS SIGN EACH TIME YOU WANT TO OPEN A NEW WEBSITE.

    The setting in Tools > Options > Tabs: "New pages should be opened in": "a new tab/window" is for links that specify a target window to open the link.
    That option allows to divert such links to a new tab instead of a new window.
    For links that do not specify a target use a middle-click or hold down Ctrl and left-click the link or use the right-click context menu to open the link in a new tab or window.<br />
    Left-click a JavaScript link to avoid getting a blank tab.

  • How to get rid of pinning on new tab

    Ok so, I was just curious as how I can get rid of this new pinning website thing when I open a new tab. I don't want my most visited websites or any site for that matter being shown. Please if anyone can help me get it back the way it was, that would be great, and if not, just tell me how not to have my most visited auto pinned. Thank you so much for your time. Hope you have a great day!

    In Address bar type: "about:config"
    Search for and update each of these preference names to the below values:
    avg.userPreferences.newtabDisabledByUser = true
    browser.newtab.url = www.google.com
    browser.search.defaultenginename = www.google.com
    browser.startup.homepage = www.google.com

  • How to get rid of bing at "new tab"

    I dont have a toolbar, it does not hijack my homepage. But everytime I open a new tab (which was always blank) I get a stupid bing search bar. That is the only place it shows up, but it is sooo annoying because I always go straight to typing whatever url I a going to, and this bar changes my cursors postion to it. How do I get rid of it?
    I have looked in plugins/extensions. It is not there. I have looked in program files, and in control panel -> programs. Nothing there either. I even went into about:config and reset everything that had a bing value. Still having the problem. What else is there to try?

    Check Tools: Add-ons: Extensions for an extension called "Default Tab." Disabling it may solve your problem.
