Why do I have 17.8GB sleepimage file?

Recently I have used Disk Inventory X to get a rid off some of my old files. The thing is that I was shocked when I found a sleepimage folder with 17.8GB sleepimage files. Why does my MB Air collecting that much of data? Usually it has to be about 2-3 GB.

There is only one sleep image file. It is by necessity slightly bigger than the amount of RAM that you have.
The other files are swap files. You must be running some big applicatoons to have that much swap file space in use on a machine that has 8 GB of RAM.

Why did I have to enable Windows File Sharing to share files between two Mavericks iMacs?

File Sharing failed between my Mavericks iMacs. The console logs showed that the target iMac saw the ntlmv2 protocol as unknown to the kdc. I fixed it by enabling Windows File Sharing on the target Mavericks iMac. I had tried disabling SMB on both iMacs and leaving AFP on, but then nothing happened when I tried to connect. When you enable file sharing you need to have either SMB (Windows) or AFP (historically Apple-native) file sharing checked. The default in Mavericks is SMB, and not AFP.
If you uncheck both, then the system will turn off file sharing. Apple supports the use of both SMB and AFP connections in Mavericks, so with only AFP enabled you should have been able to establish a connection, but there could be a small bug or configuration-specific snafu that you're encountering.
With AFP enabled only, try pressing Command-K in the Finder to open the Connect To Server dialogue, and in here enter the address to the system using afp:// as the protocol, such as the following (the name can be looked up in the Sharing system preferences):
afp://my_imac.local

Just wondering why do I have to convert canon t2i files to prores in fcp x? What difference does it make ? I'm able to edit in fcpx the files that have just been imported diectly in. Does it cause any problems in export?

I am not familiar with Canon files.
I assume that they are like AVCHD which are really designed only as a delivery format and not for editing.
Though they can be edited it is concidered better to convert them to ProRes 422 for editing.
Though nothing terrible will probably happen if you don't convert them, you are likely to get improved results and faster rendering of complex effects with the converted media.
The best thing is to do 2 very short (sub - 5 minute) identical test projects adding lots of effects etc. with both methods and then you will be able to determine which technique suits you.

Why do I have so many log files?

I ran GrandPerspective on my iMac because my HD is pretty much full and it shows me that I have about 140 gigs of log files (about 380 files x 365 megs). That's half my HD. Why do I have so many? Can I delete them and how? I ran Onyx and Cocktail but they are still there. They are all in the private/var/log/asl directory.

Yes you can delete them, but you will be asked to authenticate to do so. And it is possible that they will simply start being created all over again. This can be the result of either of two things:
1. The asl log process itself is having a problem (it is so prone to problems that I have not updated my working drive to 10.5.6, but decided to stay at 10.5.5; I have an extremely clean install of 10.5.6 on another drive)
2. You have some other process that is going mad and sending out continuous log notes
For the second problem try launching Console from your Utilities folder and take a look a look at the Console log, watch it in real time and see if there are constant messages appearing, and what is sending them. Then you can start figuring out what needs to be fixed. For instance, one fairly common problem involved software installed by Canon for one of their popular scanners which constantly, several times a second, sent an error message. There are many other possible sources for such a problem.

Why do I have 3 'Creative Cloud Files' folders?

Hello! I have a question about the Creative Cloud folder structure/syncing.
I installed the Creative Cloud Desktop application on my MacBook Pro and then installed the following programs: Lightroom, Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat Pro.
Once I had done that I switched 'file sync' on in the Desktop Application bar.
I noticed that I have three different areas called 'Creative Cloud Files' and one of these folders is called 'Creative Cloud Files Unknown' [see screenshot below].
Does anyone know why there are three separate locations? Which area am I supposed to save my files in so that I can sync them with the cloud? Can I delete the one that says 'unknown' in the file name? I assume that the folder listed in the Favourites Bar is the same place as the 'Creative Cloud Files' folder in my account?

With the recent update of the Creative Cloud Desktop app (1.9.1.474) we unfortunately introduced a bug which causes the creation of a new Creative Cloud Files folder, and re-sync of all content. This will only occur the first time the sync application runs after the update. This has caused understandable pain and confusion, for which we truly apologise.
We have taken steps to ensure we increase our focus on quality in this area to prevent a recurrence.
The Creative Cloud Files app contains logic that supports the use of multiple Adobe IDs. This allows you to sign out of one ID and in to another, but keeps your Creative Cloud content separate. When you sign out and change IDs, the app moves the previous Creative Cloud Files folder and it's contents and appends it with the previously signed in ID (User@AdobeID). It then creates a new main folder and starts to sync content of the new ID.
The bug which I mentioned previously occurs, as the app believes an ID switch has taken place and as such, moves the current Creative Cloud Files folder and tries to append the previously signed in ID. As no switch has actually taken place it manifests as (Unknown). The app then creates a new main folder at syncs down the data.
Essentially what you end up with is a Creative Cloud Files folder with your newly sync'd data and a Creative Cloud Files (Unknown) folder that contains duplicate data.
This occurs once, after the last update completes.
The fix is to simply delete the Creative Cloud Files (Unknown) folder.
I would advise that you ensure you have no pending edits that you may have made offline and that you check the contents of the new, main Creative Cloud Files folder contains everything you expect it to. If not, check the contents of the Creative Cloud Files (Unknown) folder.
If there is still a discrepancy with your data, you can check on creative.adobe.com to confirm your data is there.

I recently caved and bought Pages for iOS to use on my iPhone, and hopefully an iPad in the coming weeks. However, I've noticed that for each of the roughly 40 documents I have saved in iCloud, on my phone I see files for both "XYZ" and "Backup of XYZ". Is this normal or not? What can I do to get rid of these files while still having access to Versions for the documents when I am on my Macbook?

Why do I have 7 Plug-In files for Quick Time

I have 7 Quick Time plug-in files, some appear to be duplicates....do I need them all or can I delete the copys?

Best not to delete any. Seven sounds right, from memory. Different plugins handle different file formats in Firefox, Chrome, safari and other non-ActiveX-based browsers.

Why do I have three of every file when I search in finder?

When I open finder I see three of every file. I don't remember seeing this until recently. Are these duplicates and, if so, how can I delete them without going to every file name?

Are you searching in Finder or using Spotlight? If using spotlight then it's probably indexing both your system disk and some backup disks thus producing multiple hits.

Why do I have to use the File menu to exit LR 4.1?

My LR 4.1 opens without the normal Windows 7 header information. I do not see the application name, and can not minimize the window, adjust its size or exit the program by simply clicking on the usual 3 boxes at the top right corner of the application window. They are absent.
I also have LR 3, on my machine. That still opens normally with all the usual "windows" items above the application window.
I'm not sure exactly when the problem started. I've been ignoring it for at least a couple of weeks.
Today I tried looking for a solution in the various pull down menus without success.
Anyone have an idea what might be going on? Thanks.

Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.

Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.

Why does it show 6GB when I have an 8GB Ipod Touch?

When I look at my capacity, it says it has 6.46 GB but I have the 8 GB Ipod Touch. Why don't I have all 8GB's.?
I don't want to have to delete memories just to make room for new apps and music. My husband is having the same problem with his 64GB.

You have 8 GB total, but the operating system and the apps that come with it take up storage space. 6.5 GB is your 'available' space.

Why have my edited CR2 files disappeared from Bridge?

When I edit my CR2 files in Cam Raw I pull many in at once and do my adjustments. Then I click done and they all go back to Bridge and they show the edited version as adjusted CR2 files. Then I highlight them and pull them into the export panel for resizing into small jpegs for my facebook page. That has all changed this week and I have no idea how or why!!!!!!!!!! Now when I adjust and click done the edited version does not show in bridge and when I use the export panel the unedited version is resized. I have looked in every preference file and tried everything to get the edited version to show with no luck. WHY would this be changed??? Is it something I need to reclick???

Hi Ann and welcom to the forum
The operating system you are using makes a difference, but with Windows they will be wherever you saved them to, so long as they saved OK. Do they appear in the Photoshop > File > Open recent list?
You could try using Save As with a new document and making careful note of the file path, or just use the Windows seach facility from the Start button.
So what Operating System are you using, and have you found those files yet?

Thanks, Deggie. I thought Apple would see my feedback. I would just like to know if there is a simple way to copy just a few music files from an old iPod. I saw instructions on how to copy all of them from the iPod but it was complicated and I really didn't want to copy all the songs. I guess I could delete all the songs but the ones I want to copy then go through that process again. Do you know how to back up music to my computer? I don't want to have to go through this again and possibly lose music.
