WHy do I have 2 firefox apps popping up?

I have one firefox icon on my dock, but if I click on a link in an emial, it opens another one...why? I'm not sure which one is getting the updates and is the one that should be there. How it figure this out, which to through in trash? Where are they supposes to be?
Also, in setting up our new imac, entourage will not come up in the dock in the new partictions dock. How to get it running here?
thanks for your help!
(only had new computer for 2 weeks! Left my G4 behind-boy this is different)

The application package (the "file") is usually stored in the Applications folder.
<startup volume>/Applications/
See if there are two copies of FireFox there. If there are not, find out where the two instances of FireFox are running from. To do this, when you see FireFox in the Dock, right-click (or click-hold) on its icon. From the menu that pops up, select +Show in Finder+. Do the same with the other FireFox instance. Where are the FireFox application packages located?
entourage will not come up in the dock in the new partictions dock.
I'm not sure what that means. A "partition" does not have a separate Dock. If you install Entourage, it should get put into the Applications folder. If you want Entourage to always appear in the Dock, drag the Entourage icon from the Applications folder and drop it onto the Dock. Or, you can run Entourage from the Applications folder. It will appear in the Dock when running. Right-click (or click-hold) on the Entourage icon (in the Dock) and select +Keep in Dock+. You can change where it appears in the dock by dragging its icon to a new location.

  • Why do we have separate apps for phone, messages, and contacts?

I'm trying to reduce the number of apps that I need to run, and this one just boggles my mind.
Why do we have separate apps for phone, messages, and contacts?
The messages is to tightly coupled to the phone, that it doesn't make any sense for them to be separate.
The contacts app is nothing more then looking at the contacts from the phone app.
    What's the story here?
Does it have something to do with the contacts also being part of email app?
Actually, that's my other biff... why are they entangled as such?
Phone contacts should have phone#, email contacts should have email addresses.
If you want a contact to have both phone# and email address, then the two apps (phone/email) should be combined.

The contacts app is nothing more then looking at the contacts from the phone app.
    What's the story here?"
The forums would be full of people complaining that you had to go through an additional step ( opening the phone app) to get to contacts.  I use the contacts app from the home screen far more often then I use it in relation to calling someone.
I like the way it is far more than the way you propose.

  • Why do I have duplicate App Icons on my new iPod Touch?

Just got the new 5th gen iPod Touch yesterday and already LOVE it--just couldn't be happier, except for one thing:
Installed all of my apps last night, and for some reason there are duplicate icons for three of them--GetGlue, Google+, Google Voice, and YouTube.
They are in my "Social" folder on my home screen, and they work just fine. But there's a second set of those four that say "Installing" under each one; I've moved the duplicates to another folder on the second page of my home screen to hide them, but they are really bothering me--I don't want any clutter or issues on my new device.
I cannot delete these duplicate icons, when I tap and hold to enter edit mode, they do NOT have the little "x" in the corner to tap for deletion.
Any ideas? I spent forever getting my new iPod Touch set up last night, downloading all my music, etc. I really don't want to have to start from scratch again on day two.

Try restarting your iPod or turning it off and switching in on again. It worked for me.

  • Why do I have duplicate Apps in Launchpad

I just installed Lion this morning and really like the interface. It is really nice.
I have duplicate icons for things like Address Book, App Store, Calculator, iCal, etc.
Is there a way to remove the duplicates?

They may be different versions of the same app. Click on each and make sure that you keep the most up-to-date version.  You can remove the older versions by clicking and holding on an icon, they will all shake and have a big X in the upper right hand corner, clicking on the X will remove the app, both from Launchpad and your app folder.

I Recently updated to ios8 and increased my iCloud storage.  Now I have a lot of shadow apps.  What is it and what do I need to?  This is on my iPhone 5s.

  • I don't know why but I have Firefox optimized for Yahoo! and I hate Yahoo. Is there someway I can get rid of it and get another version

Not much to add. I hadn't used Firefox for sometime. It was already on my MAC laptop and I had so much trouble with Safari recently that I decided to go back to Firefox. However, I just realized it is called FirefoxOptimized for Yahoo. And I hate it.
Is there some way I can get a plain Firefox ?

If you think getting your web pages to appear OK in all the major browsers is tricky then dealing with email clients is way worse. There are so many of them.
If you want to bulk email yourself, there are apps for it and their templates will work in most cases...

This one will create the form, database and send out the emails...

The alternative is to use a marketing service if your business can justify the cost. Their templates are tested in all the common email clients...

  • Why do I keep getting a message saying: "Firefox.app wants to use the font "Bodonti SvtyTwo ITC TT Book" on the volume "Backup" ?

    Underneath this alert it says:
"This font is not installed. Allow Firefox.app to use this font?"
How can it use this font when it is not installed?
Why does it have to keep asking me no matter how many times I push Allow or Don't Allow?

You're welcome and thanks for confirming that the instructions worked.

  • Why is Firefox v36 asking "Do you want the application 'Firefox.app' to accept incoming network connections"? It never did before, so what should I say?

I'm on a Mac OS X 10.6.8 Have just upgraded Firefox from v35 to v36.
Every few minutes I get a message "Do you want the application 'Firefox.app' to accept incoming network connections?" It's never done that before, so why now (v36) and what should I say?
The message goes on, "Clicking Deny may limit the application's behavior. This setting can be changed in the Firewall panel of security preferences." The other option button is Allow.
The computer has always had Firewall switched on. Is Firefox suggesting I now switch Firewall off? What has changed since v35? Has Mozilla offered any information about this?
    Thank you.

    Hello FredMcD,
I wasn't suggesting they 'ask'. But I believe an entirely new and fundamental message like "Do you want the application 'Firefox.app' to accept incoming network connections?" warrants a few words of clarification.
I'm a fan of Mozilla, my comments are intended to be constructive!

  • Why do I have such a hard time when I connect to facebook games it doesn't want to start the game it sending me a message about apps...what does that mean?

why do I have such a hard time when I connect to facebook games... firefox doesn't want to open the game the message is sending that their something with the apps..what does that mean?....what is plugin...what do I do for that?

The usual explanation is that it is a licensing issue. It's not Apple refusing to support an MS product (they support loads of others, like QuickLook for Office docs). MS won't let Apple have it. (The Linux-based solutions are third-party reverse engineered.)
That having been said, I've never had a problem plugging an NTFS drive and reading files from it. Why does it take you an hour?
I've never had a problem with a Mac-formatted USB thumb drive not writing either. It's possible that the hardware/software that Apple uses is more sensitive to cheaper thumb drives, but I'm guessing here.

  • On my iPhone 4 safari will not allow firefox app to download why?

Why can't I download needed firefox app on my iPhone 4 using safari?

iPhone 3G is Old technology. When it was launched it had iOS 2.0. Currently, the highest it can go is iOS 4.2.1 and therefore can not handle many newer applications. As you have recorded, it is giving good service for which it has been designed.
Needless to say, if you want to use applications as stated, you must have at least 3GS, whose current is iOS 6.1.2. On the lighter side; Rather than updating iOS they are asking you to update iPhone (Technology). Cheers

You must contact iTunes support to get the problem resolved.

If there is a problem with your account or payment info, you cannot
download anything (including free apps or updates) until the matter
    is resolved.
In countries where the iTunes Store only sells apps, the accepted payment methods are Visa, MasterCard, and American Express. Other payment types such as gift cards, store credit, monthly allowances, ClickandBuy, and PayPal are not accepted. Depending on your App Store country, prices may be listed in your local currency, US Dollars, or Euros.    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5552
