Why do I have 2 photos libraries?

Hi,
After updating to OS X 10.10.3, my iPhoto library seemed to have converted without any hick-ups into its Photos counterpart. But inside my Users/~/Pictures folder I now have 2 separate Photos libraries. One named "Photos Library.photoslibrary" the other named "Photos Library 2.photoslibrary". One is about 3 GB bigger than the other.
How come? Please help.

Hi Morun,
I ended up deleting my (slightly) older library and so far no problems. Both library files clearly seemed to be two versions of the same library (save for a few more photos in the newer one) as my HDD storage did not increase by the size of the older library after I emptied the Trash.

  • Why do I have two photo libraries?

    I found two photos libraries:
I have one on my imac in the "pictures folder" and I also have one on my external drive.
All I have done so far is import over my aperture library and re-arranged the projects.
Both have the same time stamp today at 3:59pm and both will change this time stamp when I open the program.
The one in the "pictures folder" reads 11.3gb
The one on the external reads 17.17 gb
    Why is there two?
Also: how do you use the photos app  to display as the screen saver?
I use outlook and it does not work as email either.
When you share a photo to the desktop from the program it will default to full screen regardless of what your settings are in system preferences. Any fix for this?
    Thanks

    Mistake on below:
It is 11.3 MB compared to 17.17GB
The one in the "pictures folder" reads 11.3gb
The one on the external reads 17.17 gb

  • Why do i have multiple iPhoto libraries

I am trying to migrate my iphoto library to a new location but i have 3 libraries to choose from. why were the others created? one library is 90gb, the other 2 are 22 gb
Should i just delete the other 2?

No way for anyone but you to know - you have multiple iPhoto libraries because you have created them - only you know when and why
And only you know if they are ok to trash - depress teh option key, launch iPhoto and use the select library window to open and check each one and then desiece if you want to keep it or delete it

  • Why do i have a "photo library" and a "(name of album)" albums with the same pictures

they have th same items in it, why do i have 2 instead of one?

You choose (in your iTunes Library - Device/Photos) which folder to Sync with your iPod. If that folder has any sub-folders in it, then your iPod will show the Photo Library which will contain all the photos in all the sub folders. But if you want to look only at one specific folder, scroll down from Photo Library to the folder name and look in that.
There is only one copy of each of the photos on your iPod. But, you can either browse all the photos as one "library" or you can browse just one specific folder.
It is not an error, or an install problem.

  • Why do I have a photo in email header?

I have a photo of myself in the header of my sent emails. I recall taking the photo at the time of installing after being prompted for a picture, but I didn't know it was going to be in the header. How can I remove it? I've tried a few things but no dice. I am quite computer illiterate, really. Any advice gratefully received.

The basic question remains unanswered. If the photo doesn't get sent with the email, why does it need to show up in the Viewer Window? My wife has her own account and asks me why MY photo shows up on HER email. The answer is that I'm the user that's logged in, I guess, but that's not really a very good answer.

  • Why do I have two iPhoto Libraries on two different disks?

I have two external hard drives. At one time in the past I created an iPhoto Library on disk one, and then later I created a new library on disk two since it was larger, and that became my primary library. Now I notice using Finder after several months that the iPhoto Library file icon on both drives is exactly the same file size, with exactly the same modification date and time. How is this possible? I now do not know which library to trust. Thanks.

If you find the library1 on disk 1 contains files that do not appear in the library2 on disk 2 and want to get them into the library on disk 2 you can do so with the paid version of iPhoto Library Manager.
Launch iPLM, load the two libraries into it and copy the photos from library1 into library2. Set iPLM's preferences to not import duplicates.

  • 2 Photo Stream Folders on iPhone - Why do I have 2 photo stream folders on my iPhone? One is accurate and the other is empty. How do I delete the empty one? The empty folder doesn't allow my photos to be synced with my ipad2.

I tried disabling the iCloud on my iPhone and ipad2 and re-enabling in hopes elimnating the extra empty folder on my iphone.  Despite disabling the iCloud on my iPhone, the empty Photo Stream folder remained on my iPhone and the other Photo Stream folder with my pictures was removed.  I think because of this empty folder, my iPad isn't being prayed with my photos. Any ideas? Has this happened to anyone else?

You can uncheck multiple songs by selecting all the songs you want to uncheck, then right-click and choose "uncheck selection".  Also, make sure that you have checked "Sync only checked songs and videos" on the Summary tab of your iTunes sync settings or the sync process will ignore your selections.
You can remove all the photos from your camera roll using Preview on your Mac.  Connect your phone to your Mac, open Preview, go to File>Import from iPhone.  When your photos appear in Preview, select the photos you want to delete, then click on the icon at the bottom showing the red circle with the diagonal line through it (see image below), then click Delete.
To remove photos from the Photo Stream album on your phone you'll have to either reset Photo Stream (deleting all the photos from iCloud) or turn off Photo Stream on your phone.

  • Why do I have two itunes libraries

After I updated Itunes, I now have two duplicate itunes libraries. How do I delete just one?

Hmm, assuming you are using the same computer/library previously used to update the device then perhaps your library was rebuilt automatically following a crash. This can result in it having a different internal ID so when you connect your device it is seen as a "new" library, even if the content is the same. See Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash.

  • I have taken photos on my iphone and emailed them to my pc, but then I can't open them. Why?

I have taken photos with my iphone and then emailed to my PC. But when they arrive I can't open the photo. Why?

I have some photos from my holiday on each device. I want to put all the photos into a folder on the PC and then have only a small selection in a 'holiday" album on each device, it can be the same selection on each device
I've tried syncing the iPad with iTunes but have ended up with 2 of everything on the iPad. Some photos are labelled "123" whilst the other copy is a. .jpg
The instructions were obviously written by someone who knows what they're doing with no ability to explain it to someone who doesn't.
Hence I'm here trying not to lose anymore of my photos.
    Thanks.

  • Iphot and Photos libraries taking all my disc space

I have installed Photos but now seem to have 2 photo libraries on my Laptop - iPhoto and photos. Seeing as I have a small SSD and a large collection of pictures can I safely delete one library to recover some disc space?

If you migrated the iPhoto Library to Photos, then it should not be using any more space than before, even though it may appear to be. Look at your disk space used and compare it to what you had before. As long as you don't do anything to break the links between the 2 libraries, then they shouldn't take up extra space.
Photos saves disk space by sharing images with your iPhoto or Aperture libraries - Apple Support

  • Iphoto2: i have multiple i photo libraries. need help

Hi everyone. When click into my "pictures" folder, i have two iphoto library folders (iPhoto Library) and (iPhoto Library_1). Does anyone have any idea why I would have two? They also do not appear to have the same exact contents. for example, under iPhoto Library: 2002: i have folders named (01) (06) (11) (14) (18 and (20), but under my "second" iphoto library, i have an (04) folder in place of the (06). Any ideas what is going on here?
thank you so much in advance. i appreciate the feedback.

I think I did actually rebuild the library once before when i was having problems. like i said, the thing that is strange is that the two libraries do not contain the same folders. im afraid to trash one and find that i deleted photos i want. i also notice that on my ipod photo, i have some duplicates and things that i remember deleting out of my iphoto library are still there and i am wondering if the double library issue has anything to do with that. and they are pictures that i dont want on my ipod anymore and i cant seem to get them off even though they are not in my iphoto program anymore. any ideas on this? thanks so much.

It's says that file does not exist. How come? And why does it still show the image info.?
Where can i find those files (i have a daily backup)
The original image files are missing form your iPhoto library or iPhoto cannot find them, because the link to the originals has been broken. The image info is stored in the internal libraries, independent of the original files. That is, why you are still seeing them.
I restored the whole library from my backup.
Try restoring from an older backup, from before you first noticed the problem.
How large is the library, that you restored? Is the file size large enough to hold all your photos, or has the size been reduced?  If the library is still large, the photos may still be inside, even if iPhoto cannot find them.
It's says that file does not exist. How come?
What happened, before your iPhoto library got deleted? Which applications have you been running, or which new software have installed or upgraded?  Have you moved the library to a different disk or tried to use it from different user account or access it over the network?

  • How can I keep every single photo from saving to "collections""my photo stream""camera role" and just use one folder? And why do I have to delete the same pictures 4 times? In "collections""myphotostream"camera role""deleted photos" I need ONE FOLDER

im sick of deleting the same picture 4 separate times, I want to limit everything to one folder and only have to delete one time, how? Why does this have to be so complicated

Photos you take on your camera are in the Camera Roll and are like the film in a camera.
Photo Stream is an independent stream of photos from all devices that are logged onto the same iCloud account and that have Photo Stream turned on. Photo Stream photos are kept in the cloud for 30 days or up to 1000 photos, whichever comes first, so unless you have a particular photo you just don't want to stay out there for 30 days, you don't really need to delete Photo Stream Photos. They are temporary. Your device will continue to keep your Photo Stream photos from prior to the 30 day limit, but if you switch Photo Stream off in iCloud and then right back on, the only photos that will re-display in Photo Stream on that device are the ones that remain within the 30 Day/1000 photo parameter.
Collections is simply a single place which shows all of the photos that you have on your device. You do not need to delete photos from Collections. It is just a single place where you can see the contents of all of your albums.
Photos in albums that you have created on the device itself are tied to the photos in your Camera Roll, so if you delete them from the Camera Roll, it will tell you that it will also be deleted from an album.
Albums that you have sync'd from your computer should be removed the same way you got them there - by hooking the device up to a the computer you did the sync with, and un-selecting the album from the Photo profile screen.
So, really, there are only two places that you need to delete photos - Camera Roll and Photo Stream.
    Cheers,

  • Somehow, i have 2 iPhoto libraries which I opened today.  The one with the vast majority of my images does not allow me to export photos.  What can I do to manage this situation?

With my MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite, iPhoto 9.6, I find I have two iPhoto libraries.  I discovered this when opening iPhoto today.  One has only a few old images; the other, all current images.  I cannot export images from the current image library.  Can anyone enlighten me as to why I would have two libraries and how to resolve the issue of exporting?

What happens when you try to export from the library?  Where are you trying to export to? Are both libraries located in the same Place?  If not where are they located.  If on an external HD how is that HD formatted?
How much free space do you have on your HD(s)?
